My fav place for BBQ meat and also best sweet and sour pork. Love the service there, when you sit down the yummy soup is served along with chinese tea. Service is excellent, especially the old uncle that always make sure you get the good hospitality there. Great job!

After all these years, the roast duck is still the best. Actually, it is tastier than ever. It was tasty and fresh when I was there with my family last night. I love the picture on the wall. It will be good if owner could share the story behind it. I recognise some of the historical famous faces. It was so cleverly put together. It will be good to know the rest of them.

Peking duck meat (6 servings) was big, thick and juicy. Big serving of fried rice. The BBQ pork was amazing, also big serving. Too much to eat and had to take away. In total $85, but should just only have had 4 servings. Will defenately go back again for sure.

First time going to bbq king and thoroughly enjoyed my experience. I was impressed with the service for a chinese restaurant and it was clean and comfortable.
The Peking duck 2 ways was delicious and authentic, the XO pipis were tasty and generous and the crispy pork belly was the best I’ve had in sydney so far! It’s good value for medium to larger groups, and the alcohol is not overpriced. Will continue to visit whenever I feel like quality chinese bbq meats.

No fuss feed with great portions. I enjoyed their roast duck and some roast pork. They also provided a complementary basic bone broth which goes well with their meats. Their menu is perfect for sharing.

This is the place, your search is over. There’s so much angst when looking for a place to eat Peking Duck. Will they sell me a dry one? Will they keep all the meat for something else? Will it be crispy skinned or just dry? Having tried and been disappointed several times I decided to try this SYDNEY institution at its new location and now unlikely to go anywhere else. Apart from the friendly welcome and staff who know what they are about, you can just tell that the owners are around and care about everything that is going on. Everyone is at attention and service is efficient and warm if you are friendly and respectful yourself. But what about the duck?? Plump, freshly cooked, lacquered crackly skin is served in pancakes with delightful spring onion flowers wrapped in a small chilli. Staff serve everyone quickly and then return soon after with our chosen second course- San Choy Bau. Warm, lightly spiced and unctuous with water chestnuts and other crispy veg. Truly superior to many mediocre versions in Sydney. The suckling pig was expertly cooked but a little bony, perhaps just our portion? Salt and pepper tofu is another dish that shows the mastery in handling ingredients. Light as air and silky inside, crunchy and spiced with salt and pepper outside. Go, just go, you will not be disappointed

Best place for suckling pig and maybe roast duck! The serving here are large portion and worth the price. One of the few best BBQ place in Sydney CBD.

Make sure you get the suckling pig and roast duck for dinner ... Oh and a bowl of rice.

Went there for lunch with colleagues.
A bit over priced but they have some good options.Liked their peking duck and garlic prawns.
A bit less preferable if you have vegans/vegetarians in the group.

If you're missing the old BBQ King that used to be on Goulburn Street, fear no more, because their new store is a stones throw away over on Liverpool Street. It's much bigger too which is even better news! Of course they have their great BBQ favourites as well. We started with Beijing Roast Duck pancakes. In fact we had quite a few of them - they are just so moreish!

After craving for cantonese food for so long, I got myself a decent dinner of crispy pork and roasted duck! All great for my liking.. but I reckon the crispy pork is a bit salty for some ppl (I do like salty lol).

Price wise, it is worth the portion served. Service was also good. Our steamed rice came a bit late but the waiters were very helpful.

BBQ King Restaurant moved from its old location to a newer one in 2016 but with reputation intact. It’s been around since 1983, and it seems to be part of Sydney’s food history. Every few years, a newspaper article will talk about how Sydney top chefs will gather at or head off to BBQ King after their work shifts or on their nights off. Here, you know what you’ll be getting: Cantonese BBQ meats, with duck as a specialty, and a few other standards.

Succulents Meats, that’s why they call it “King”.
Juicy chicken, nice roast pork, and the duck... oh my goodness, reminds me back in Beijing!
Even though this shop is more Cantonese Cuisine, but I do still like it!
Other dishes also nice, like the ask and pepper calamari, noodles and the clam.

Clean, attentive customer service, the food was quick to be served and tasted great. The roast pork and roast duck were really well done and not overly oily (which can be typical of Chinese restaurants).

The roast duck (with plum sauce) was absolutely delicious! I’m a big fan of hk style roast duck, so my friend recommended this place. He said this is the best roast duck in Sydney, and I believe him! We also ordered crispy pork, suckling pig and fermented bean curd stird fried with Chinese spinach. They were all very delicious, except that suckling pig was a bit too greasy (lots of fat)
Additionally, the staff were very friendly and bubbly.

A restaurant serving Cantonese style of BBQ, crispy pork, and steamed chicken... all about meat.

They will serve the free soup once you get to your seat. The service is super fast.
If you are hungry, choose something like #BBQ Duck rice#, #Crispy pork rice#...., they will prepare it very quickly and you'll get it within 5 minutes. This is because   they have already cooked meat, the only thing is to cut the whole duck up and served with rice.

Such restaurant is very common in Hong Kong, and is pretty like "fast food" restaurants.

#BBQ Pork# tastes a bit hard. It could be better if the pork is much more tender.
I prefer #Soya Sauce Chicken# . The oily chicken is great with rice.

You can also purchase the whole duck, chicken and take it home:)

Had a BBQ duck craving and this was the closest place to my office so I went in for lunch. I was prompted seated with a menu and complimentary tea and soup was brought out instantly. I ordered a duck noodle soup ($15) and waited no more than 5mins. Very happy with the service and the quantity of duck provided. Would be keen to go back and try the BBQ pork next time!

We were gutted to turn up in Goulburn St to find them gone but quickly found they had re located around the corner to Liverpool St. They pioneered Cantonese style BBQ Pork, Roast Duck and Soya Chicken In Chinatown when Duckie (Duck Soo) ran the place. The food was as good as I remember.

Never got the chance to eat at the old venue but this place is nice, new & clean. There are 3 seating areas to this restaurant with the bbq items hanging at the front of the restaurant.

As we were a big group we decided to book ahead, good idea as when we arrived most tables were already full, for a Sun night.

We were seated at the top level which overlooks the main dining area. We also had an attentive waitress dedicated to our level which is a good idea just in case we needed anything (cutlery, drinks, extra bowls etc etc).

Couldn't fault any of the dishes ordered. We ordered the peking duck 2 course, with pancakes first then rice for the 2nd course. This came out after a big bowl of broth was served to our table followed by the rest of the dishes ordered. Everything came out at a good pace.

Good place if you are craving chinese & great for large numbers.

When you're starving in CBD on a night out this is one of those place to satisfy your cravings. They make really amazing Peking Duck and their Lettuce Wraps are great as well. If you're craving something more substantial just order their BBQ duck. They serve two flavours (sweet and savoury) and you can get the mixed plate. Just to make sure come here with some friends so you can order different things. The price is on higher side but it is really worth the food.

BBQ King is such a food institution in Sydney. Always a great place for a late night feed. Located on Liverpool Street near Chinatown.

After meeting some friends for drinks, it was getting late and needed something that was quick and simple to eat. Walked past here and harking back to my childhood where a plate of rice with bbq meats were a staple, I decided I wanted to have some tonight.

I was greeted at the front door quite quickly and seated immediately. A complimentary pot of tea and bowl of soup were presented to me. I decided to get the Spring Roll and B.B.Q. Pork, Roast Duck And Rice. The spring rolls had a vegetarian filling and served with a plum sauce. The pork was delicious with a nice red glaze, the duck was nice but slightly boney and rice was seasoned with soy sauce which was nice. It was also served with some greens.

Overall slightly more expensive than what you pay in the burbs but definitely worth a try if you're in the area.

Growing up, I didn’t have a lot of non-Chinese food. I lived on yum cha, noodles, stir fries and claypots with smells that made my Greek neighbours wrinkle their noses. I also had a lot of Chinese BBQ with sides of rice and bowls of “I wish you would seriously consider being a doctor” soup.

The competition for southern Chinese barbequed meat shops can be intense.   Almost every self-respecting suburb with sizeable Asian populations in the metropolitan areas of Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne these days boast of  such a butcher and BBQ outlet. The meats - duck, pork or chicken - provide for an easy take away especially for busy families.   It is not just in the marinades utilised, but also in the cut of the meats, the critical drying of the skins and the presentation, that distinguishes quality from the ordinary.

Our Sydney friend recommended this place as we were looking for a yummy roast duck! Almost everyone had either roast duck or roast pork on the table. We went for roast duck on dry noodle and pecking duck. Everything was nice (including the complimentary soup), but the pecking duck was unforgettable! Crispy, juicy duck with hoisin sauce. Yuuuuum! We'll definitely come back when we visit Sydney!

I remember the disappointment from my social circle when the old BBQ King shutdown. Was really glad to hear that they were up and running in a fancy new home on Liverpool street and still serving no frills, Asian bbq in a relaxed dining space.

We ordered a number of bbq dishes including suckling pig, roast duck, bbq pork and soy sauce chicken. Whilst all bbq dishes were good, the stand out was definitely the soy sauce chicken, with a deeply soy flavoured skin, smooth flesh and well seasoned condiment of ginger and shallot.

We also ordered a number of classic dishes and I was happy with all of them. The salt and pepper squid was crispy, the vegetables were fresh and my favorite dish apart from say sauce chicken was the ginger and shallot cod. The cod was not overcooked and still had that soft bite, vegetables were still crunchy and there was a nice hint of ginger to enhance the dish.

Some have said that the new bbq king pales in comparison to the old. I attribute that to fear of change. I think this new bbq king is equally good, set in a much more welcoming environment and I wouldn't hesitate to return.

Classic Chinese bbq food at relatively average prices. The new revamp has brought a touch of class to the place but you don't expect anything extravagant. That's what makes it so good, it's your typical and authentic dining experience that you want.

I have fond memories of the old school BBQ King when it was on Goulburn Street. Not so much for the dated decor and often perfunctory service but for their meaty Peking Duck pancakes. So it's good to see they're the first thing I see on the entree menu at the new location on Liverpool Street — and the fit out and decor is much cleaner and modern now. Peking Duck ($14, 2 pieces) still comes with a meaty chunk of duck meat. Never fear when it's served not made up as a waiter will combine all the ingredients together at the table complete with hoisin sauce and that signature stem of shallot wrapped with a fresh chilli.

Short Soup ($8) is a smallish bowl but still packed to the brim with nice wontons in a hot and tasty broth that's thankfully not watery and tasteless. Add some of that tasty side of soy sauce with chilli sauce and fresh chillies for extra flavour and chilli kick to make it complete. Service was abundant and keenly efficient but don't expect sincere pleasantries. You're there to sit, eat and pay your bill.

I love the BBQ Duck which is famous for about 3 decades. I have heard that this restaurant relocated recently. The new restaurant has renovated pretty well, at least a lot better than the old one.
Thought that they will increase the price for new renovation, but surprisingly, they didn't and indeed lower charges than before!!

“We found you,” rings out joyously across the dining room. Finding the relocated BBQ King is like running into a long, lost family member. Multiple tables are being particularly effusive with their nostalgia, accosting the slightly bemused owner, Philip Chau. We might not be family, but after countless late-night meals, it’s clear many of us feel great attachment to this thirty-six year old enterprise. With the clock edging towards midnight, I order a Stone and Wood Pacific Ale ($7) to stick it to the man – Premier Mike Baird - whose Lockout Laws continue to erode our once-vibrant city. Our Peking Duck ($14/2 pieces) arrives almost simultaneously, and I’m pleased to report, the fat, juicy slabs of duck still number among...

Came here with my friends 5people, good to share with others so you can try many kinds of chinese food.

I've got problem with reservation but the staff were treated me nice and sort it out for me as soon as possible.

We had soup at first which is Hong kong style and really like it.
After warmed us up by drinking delicious soup, we had duck rice, chilli sour pork, fried noodle with seafood and chicken and veggie with nuts.

These were all delicious, we do enjoyed all of the food and meat were tender and yummy.

We'll definitely order same things again when we're back also we'd like to try fish too.

The restaurant is always very busying but nice and tidy!! love it.

All the dishes were really nice and came to the table really fast. The sweet and sour pork was a huge winner, everyone on the table strongly agreed too!

The roast duck here is the best I had in Australia so far. The two of us shared half a duck and century egg and pork congee. Service was super fast and the food reminds me of Asia. The cost of the meal was very reasonable and the servings were generous. Definitely one of the places I would return again for a meal.

I love BBQ King... used to go there all the time but then it closed and moved - and it’s now a rare treat. I will say I liked the old place better: it had a sense of being only about the food... the new place does not have the same vibe. In saying this, the food is excellent and it an awesome late night dinner option! The crispy duck and pork are excellent!

Best crispy skin duck in Sydney I'd say. Rest of the menu is good as well. Also, make sure you try the peking duck pancakes. One things I have always found interesting is that staff always stand around and stare at you while you eat. Not sure if they are trying to be attentive and careful, or creepy...

So nice to be greeted by the maitre de of the restaurant as we entered. I loved the walkway of BBQ meats as you walk into the restaurant. We shared the BBQ crispy pork and mixed vegetables between two and it was more than enough food. The veggies came out piping hot and the jasmine tea steaming as we poured our cups. Very satisfied and will be back.
