Review The Silly Tart Kitchen - Sydney

Victor David
I celebrated my birthday here last night (private function), I was very impressed with the food, friendly service and atmosphere! Such a lovely place and variety of food and drinks, they took care of the special dietary requirements very well too. Highly recommend!

Absolutely loved this place! We hosted a bottomless brunch for a hen-do and all the staff were so accommodating of our party. We were able to set up a camera stand, decorate our table and everyone enjoyed their food. Such a great deal for the bottomless drinks!

The best Bloody Mary’s around! Would highly recommend the chefs “feed me” selection. Incredible mixture of foods. The staff were exceptional, if we didn’t have to fly home we would come back every weekend! Thanks so much for a fab brunch ❤️

This charming cafe is a winner and I highly recommend it for your next catch up. The food is delicious, filling and well priced. I suggest trying their daily specials. If you have any dietary requirements, the staff are more than happy to oblige. They serve Reuben Hill coffee which is surprisingly good. The cafe has got plenty of seating areas indoor and outdoors. The covered courtyard is my favourite spot as it's light-filled and airy and has a lovely hanging garden. If you come on a Thursday, you'll get the added bonus of a live musician. Special mention to the staff. They're very friendly, hospitable and ensure I have a very enjoyable visit every time.

I reserved the garden area for my birthday celebrations and there was an abundance of amazing food and refreshing cocktails… so much so I had to encourage my friends to keep eating and drinking… we still had to take some of it home as was too good to waste. Friendly service and accomodating.

Amazing food and service! I visited Silly Tart kitchen in early March 2022 and had THE BEST Avocado Toast I have EVER had. Genuinely, the food was incredible! Can strongly recommend this place for breakfast and lunch! Also the Welsh lady who was running the front of house was lovely! Great banter and an all round great experience!

This was a great little place to sit with an exqusitive antique aesthetic and charming courtyard. There's room inside and out and a musician comes in to play live music each Thursday. The buttermilk fried chicken was beautiful cooked and crunchy, and the slaw was tangy and delicious. The coffee was also better than average. Would certainly come back again.

I found the Silly Tart Kitchen on Google after our mornings plans had been cancelled due to the weather. We were stoked with the service, abundance of delicious food and beverages. We had a wonderful time and quickly forgot where we had intended on spending our day. We will definitely be back! Thank you!

Cool brunch and drinks spot located conveniently just off Kings Cross Station. The vibes are hip and very green, love the plants 🌱 and the timber / wooden-oriented interiors. Great coffee, service and food - we had THE LOT (basically the big brekky), and it was a satisfying start to the morning!

A hidden gem in the middle of Darlinghurst, with a lovely rustic decor and lots of natural light. They smoke their own bacon on the premises, though I didn't get to try it since I don't eat pork. Incredible attention to detail with the food, all of which tasted wonderful and the presentation just gorgeous. It's been awhile since I was there so I don't remember the dish names, but a picture paints a thousand words, so here are some of the shots I took from my lunch there.

I really enjoyed this cafe’s cosy and bright atmosphere in the atrium. The food was better than average (having carrot pikelets) however the 40 minute wait was excruciating. My soy flat white was average (clearly not a soy-friendly bean). My friend has a long black which wasn’t hot (twice in a row). I didn’t get the experience that others seemed to.

Service was slow but that was not an issue as the atmosphere is very pleasant on their outdoor terrace space. The avocado toast had an interesting honey flavour and was perfectly completed by a fresh OJ. Their corn fritters are very good as well!

I love this cute place. It’s super close to the Cross station, but tucked away in a quite street away from the grime. It’s a lovely old world charming venue, with a herbal garden that they use in the food and soulful French jazz playing softly in the background. The outdoor courtyard is just lovely to sit in. The service is great, with the owner personally serving the guests and offering expertise on each item on the menu. My coffee was smooth and lovely. My breakfast of corn fitters was great, with fluffy plentiful quantities of corn fritters. The relish was delicious and I would have liked more as they jazzed up the corn fritters. Likewise some move avocado would have been nice as they ran out long before the corn fritters did. But all in all, one of the most charming cafes in the Point. Definitely will be coming back and bringing friends.

Had an excellent experience at Silly Tart last night. The locally sourced ingredients were delicious - black sesame humous, amazing cheeses, rainbow trout...and the wine! Wow. Will definitely be back!

It’s a pretty corner place in Potts point. Really nice ambience. Every plate looks good. My table got scotch pancakes and smash avo and both were really tasty, good flavours...everyday breakfast. We sat in the garden (a bit cold but acceptable) waitresses are friendly.

Why did I stop loving brunches again?! This place is amazing- lovely ambiance and friendly staff- but what's even more amazing is what they serve on the plate. Delicious (and generous) food that are plated marvelously; with the colours bursting out of the plate as well as its flavours bursting in your motuh. Will definitely go back again to try more of what they offer- and of course try their breakfast martini!!! 😍

Good food. Attentive wait staff. Speed of food and coffees is ridiculously slow. To the point I would never come again.

Here for the weekend. Waited a very long time for iced lattes. Waited over an hour for food. Unsure whether they’re understaffed today but once the hour mark hit for food I just became irritated. No tips from me. Too much of my morning wasted sitting around watching the rest of my table eat, chat and eventually leave.

Would recommend if you want a very, very slow Sunday and looking to eat straight away.

Can recommend: chicken salad.

The lot is fine.
The fritters are fine.
The avocado on toast is fine.
The Scottish cakes are fine.
FlyBird747
Great surroundings, good wait staff.

Very poor value for money with meals that lacked imagination or effort. The menu reads well but reality falls far short of expectation with some things coming straight put of a packet.

Many aspects of our meals showed the owners were more interested in profit than quality.
An extra slice of toast cost $5.00 and our coffee was served luke warm.

The feedback we gave management was dismissed and there was no token offer to show us that they could do better if we returned.

We won't be back and will let others know to avoid this cafe. This place won't last. There are much better options around.
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
“What we want is to create a Kellett Street dining strip,” says Nina Purton, the bubbly owner of The Silly Tart Kitchen. As former resident of the suburb, I’m of course reminded of the eighties and nineties, when (prior to Premier Mike Baird) the suburb’s bars and restaurants were thriving. Purton believes it’s high time that we relearn how to do more than just go out to dinner. In attempt to restore our bar hopping, live music culture she has come to the party by opening up from 5pm-9pm Wednesday to Friday evenings, with occasional live music and a well-priced supper menu. In this fairy-lit secret garden setting you’ll find rustic, homely, unsophisticated but charming food.If you are going out for dinner later, tiny bites like Asparagus Spears ($2/each), wrapped in bacon they make on premises, will give your stomach something to work on without filling you up.Ditto a pretty plate of Highlands Cheddar ($5) accompanied by crisp green apple, raw honey and black pepper. The cheese is a good foil to...

Great place for brunch. Staff are lovely and provide great service. Atmosphere is quirky and fun, but not pretentious. Great outdoor area to site on a nice afternoon with friends. Only let down was the coffee, but more than made up for by food and staff. High recommend a visit

Potts Point, otherwise known as Kings Cross has vastly changed since the lockout laws. The area has had an influx of quality dining options to meet a different market. One new addition to that list is Silly Tart Kitchen, which is in fact, not silly at all, it’s perfectly refined. Silly Tart is doing all day dining, with a bit of fun thrown in with entertainment, happy hours, cheap tapas currently starting at $2, and you can do a boozy brunch or even a soon to begin high tea.
Coco And Vine
In short: The Silly Tart Kitchen looks after your coffee needs during the day, and now on Friday evenings you can pop in for live music and $2 tapas, wine, and beer. Look out for the hasselback potatoes and salmon tostadas.

The Silly Tart Kitchen has a little secret that I need to tell you about. You may know of it as a cafe, a rustic retreat in the middle of Kings Cross but on Fridays, the venue morphs into a soul and jazz venue with tapas and wine.
The Weekend Foodie
A new kid on the block on the back street of kings cross, there were some questionable "massage shops" but we wont get into that. Ah good ole cross!

Silly tart occupied a big chunk of kellett st. The venue and interior looked absolutely beautiful. They smoke their own meat in a fridge and they have a jam room with live music. We both rated highly on the ambience and decor.

The one thing i found odd is there as you walk in, no one seats you. Im not sure if its cos the joint is so free flowing that you'd just pop in and sit down? I never know what to do when i go to a restaurant or cafe, do i pay at the counter? Do i wait to be seated? Do i pay before i eat? Or do i just take a seat. There were no instructions, but eventually i found my way.

We sampled pretty much all the $2 samples with the exception of the meatball and poppers. Some were amazing value for $2 and some werent so. For example, you will get a plate of olives for $2 which is an incredible deal, whereas you'd only receive 1 small serving of the lime cured salmon tostadas. But for $2 you can sample 5 tapas for $10 ... you be the judge. The tapas werent bad either.

I wasnt a big fan of the watermelon margarita... it tastes like if you chopped watermelon on a chopping board where you have chopped veggies or savoury foods. Otherwise i reckon it wouldve been a good drink.

The chicken with veggies were a highlight, the potato studs cooked and dressed to perfection, chicken was tender and delicious.

Not a bad start overall, really dig the vibe. But there is still Still room for improvement.

*we were kindly invited

Very welcoming, warm atmosphere with beautiful decor. Fast friendly service. Delicious food at great prices. The Silly Tart Kitchen is something different that is not to be missed- like me, you'll want to go back and try everything!

Without a doubt my favourite
cafe in Kings Cross/ Potts Point. Whether it is breakfast on my own with a
Skittle Lane coffee, having a group brunch with a number of morning cocktails
or late afternoon lunch with a glass of wine, silly tart always makes me feel
welcome and serves up the most delicious food. Service is always with a smile
and shows the personality of the staff. My new fave hangout. Loving the new afternoon
menu. My friends could not get enough of
the Bacon, Mac and Cheese while we sipped our beers. Looking forward to more Sunny afternoons in the garden.

What a real treat this place is, you can feel the love as soon as
you are warmly welcomed in the door. Found out about this place through friends as
its just off the main drag and I’m not local to the area, I hate to be a
creature of habit but can’t help myself with this place.

The attention to detail doesn’t stop with the food, its everywhere you look with
restored original features and décor, it’s a feast for the eyes.

With heaps of outdoor seating I’ve never failed to get a sunny
spot!

Staff are fantastic, great knowledge of the menu and they need to
because you’ll need help trying to decide what to have. Coffees great, and licenced too so brunch
can turn into lunch, the Mimosa’s are to die for.

Tip of the day… Anything without bacon, ADD BACON!

The Silly Tart Kitchen takes you a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It is a country oasis complete with a herb garden right next to Kings Cross. It is truly a delightful find. The staff are kind and attentive but not obtrusive. The coffee is great and there is a selection of teas available. The food was amazing. I had the mother piklets on Wednesday and the combination of flavours was an experience in itself. The lemon curd and burnt pineapple balanced beautifully with fresh strawberry and creme fraiche. Highly recommended! I also noted there was an after 2pm food menu which I must go back and try and there is a great list of wines, beer and gins available. I'll be back for some afternoon drinks soon!

Fantastic little rustic gem tucked away in Potts Point on Kellet Street, only a few minutes walk away from Kings Cross train station. These guys definitely know whats good!

Great coffee and delicious food which is well presented and tastes better than it looks. Excellent ambiance with a very down to earth vibe and the staff are lovely. Brilliant little spot for breakfast, brunch or lunch with seating inside and out. You can also purchase their own brand of jams and preserves to take a little silly goodness home with you.

Duck in for a take away coffee, or stick around for a good meal. Great little spot for a nice boozy lunch with friends on the weekend too. Apart from serving delicious food, these guys keep things interesting with spontaneous events including tasting sessions of fantastic local produce, such a cheese and wine, and more recently they had live jazz musicians jamming out in the little courtyard.

Cute and kitsch, I can't recommend this place enough! Get yourself down to The Silly Tart Kitchen if you know what is good for you!

Great, friendly service and delicious food! The garden area is really pretty and a nice place to relax with a coffee. I ate the corn fritters with bacon which was amazing! 🌽😋

Silly Tart Kitchen is a new venue in Darlinghurst, a short stroll from Kings Cross Station. It's a bruncher's delight with a nice little garden area and a new Spring menu. Matt and I walk into Silly Tart Kitchen and there's a cooler inside area and an outside garden which is brightly lit up and lined with herbs on the back wall.

There's nothing silly about the food at Silly Tart Kitchen, just wholesome seasonal fare with a modern twist. The fluffy sky-high pikelets with Pepe Saya mascarpone, homemade lemon curd, and burnt pineapple with pepper. Followed by a pot of invigorating ginger, lemongrass, turmeric and lemon myrtle from Bodhi Organic Tea, you have a recipe for bliss.

Long time friends Nina and Josh have put their heart and soul into renovating this cafe on Kellett Street and Silly Tart Kitchen brings to life their vision for delicious food and warm, country hospitality in the city - complete with a jam room!

Nice space, and some interesting food ideas. Execution wasn’t there unfortunately - brunch took almost an hour to arrive. There were some tasty parts of the dishes, but some parts average too.

Neatly tucked away just a couple doors down off Bayswater road sits a gem of a place. After having been to the Silly Tart Kitchen several times, I can't help but notice the reason for my return - it's such a pleasing mix of gourmet food, great coffee and ambience! So much pride and love has been given to its fit-out too. And the interior, along with it's brilliant menu and unique outdoor garden area has been done with such taste, it's hard not to want to stay there for hours on end. And the drinks menu with it's inclusion of Archie Rose Gin doesn't hurt, either!;)

The brunch song of J Alfred Prufock.

Millsie (see her review) had googled best breakfast in Potts Point, and up popped Nina Purton. For pictures google: Nina + Silly Tart

As a result we found a new favourite venue just around the corner from an old one of 20 years [Caffe Roma at #9].

The Silly Tart Kitchen is different, has attention to detail, ambience, interesting stuff in every corner, great music, is sparkling clean to a fault, hosts a random visiting magpie, and isn't yet crowded out on frosty Sydney Saturday mornings (apparently it is after 11am).

Being on NZ time, their opening time of 8am seemed closer to our 10am brunch body clocks. We had a leisurely chat with the two silly tarts who have revitalized this corner treasure at 1 Kellet Street. Nina is softly Welsh, with a fabulous quiff and rose apron. Josh, her business partner, is archetypically sensational Sydney hospo.

I had the lot which was light and full of flavour, soft poached eggs, avocado and crunch, while offering the contrast and variety I craved. There was plenty there too, popping in and out of One hot yoga studio opposite the outside area with gas heaters and rugs that we had braved. Both were fresh bouncy and full of the joys of youth and slow roasting.

Our lovely attendant Italian boy insisted I had a glass of breakfast burgundy with my half share of the pikelets to follow. He opened a Pankhurst 2013 Cab Merlot, poured a glass and I almost drank the silky bottle. I was on a mission to see Mickey Walker and Comin’ Through nail my ton at $4.20 in the fourth at Randwick, otherwise I’d still be there.

It was a beautiful start to one of the best days I can recall in my favourite closest ozzie City. And somewhere later that evening in Chippendale between Ester , LP's hidden cocktail bar and restaurant, and the pub on the corner, apparently we won the rugger too.

The food is spectacular in its simplicity and variety of taste. The home cured bacon was simply the best I have ever had. You have to try this food - you won't be disappointed. Oh and the coffee was great too!

You know a place is good when you go there for brunch and stay for five hours! My partner and I heard about the Silly Tart Kitchen from some friends who couldn't stop raving about it so we had to see what the fuss was about. The menu is full of familiar dishes but all with an interesting twist. We tried The Lot and the Corn Fritters. Both feature bacon they cure themselves in a fridge at the front of the restaurant. Best bacon I've tasted! And the corn fritters are also some of the best I've had, which also features their own homemade green tomato relish. So yummy! We sat in the garden terrace which has a vertical garden where they grow the herbs and greens which feature throughout the menu. And the best bit is they're licensed, so we ended up with some delicious Bloody Mary's, followed by a bottle of wine from Orange and a cheese platter to while away the afternoon. I absolutely loved it here and will be back again very soon!

How had no-one reviewed this absolute gem yet?! Hidden away down the lane, it's a bit hard to find, but when you do it feels like discovering the secret garden. Warm and inviting, spacious and light inside..you will be immediately be greeted by one of the friendly staff. But before you sit, have a look around... the maybe at the preserves room, or the dessert display cabinet.... or the meats drying. Sitting inside provides lovely soft lighting... But outside (if you're lucky enough to get a table) provides not only the guilty pleasure of kellet street people watching... but the background to that is a lush vertical garden - with herbs and such that they use plentifully in the kitchen.
Take a friend, so you can order multiple things... corn fritters are my favorite menu item so far.
Definitely be returning.
