Review Mecca Coffee - Sydney

Johnson Huynh
This place is so underrated. With the great coffee and food I would’ve thought this cafe would be packed out on a Sunday afternoon. The coffee is one of the best I’ve had, so creamy and smooth. The pork belly roll was amazing, you can still taste the crispy skin without it being too hard to chew. The interior is a converted warehouse with high ceiling - such a good experience!

I enjoyed my laid-back weekend there with coffee, food and their lovely service. Their truffle seasonal burger can’t be missed. Just about the right portion of truffle to set off flavour of hamburger. Heads-up - bit challenge to get off-street parking spot so try your luck..

YES it really did taste as good as it looks! This was such a beautiful venue and the food and coffees were fantastic. We’re wishing we could eat another miso pork roll right now. We’ll definitely be back! 🍔🍳☕️

Their coffee is really great! Always have mecca beans. The ambience is incredible and service is spot on as well! Food is great but one thing I can comment on is that poached eggs could be better. All in all, always have a good time in this place.

It's located on the main road. Either side of two industrial buildings. There is no dedicated parking and barring a few spots right outside, the next spots are at least 5-7 minutes walk. Seating is ample inside and outside. Service is decent, have experienced friendlier in other cafés. Quality is standard Mecca fare.

Mecca is an excellent Sydney based coffee roaster. This is their little cafe. The interior space is beautiful and has a great modern industrial feel to it. It’s a lovely place to sit down and enjoy some good coffee and delicious food. To be honest, I haven’t had food here very often, mostly just stopping in for coffee. But I tried their nduja bruschetta and it was quite delicious.

Wonderful experience on a wet Saturday morning. Staff are friendly. The coffee and meal are great. They parking is a bit tricky, but we are lucky to find a spot not too faraway.

Great coffee and great atmosphere. Maybe the coffee was too sweet even though I asked for just one scoop of sugar. The girl serving us was so nice. Lovely decoration as well.

What a shame, great fresh food, great coffee - service? appalling, we literally got kicked off our table despite having purchased 4 meals and coffees and were there for an hour 15. The bill arriving on our table without asking for it was rude enough - then we get told to settle the bill as there are "lots of people waiting", when there were one group of 3 waiting. First and last visit.

Went for a brunch with friends. We had 2 small/medium sized prams with us, the service was OK, one waitress wasn’t particularly helpful — there were available seats, but we weren’t offered to sit at those tables maybe because she fears we would block the way — but another waitress came and helped us.

We had BAE rolls and they were great. Large mocha was good too but wish it was more chocolatey.

Came here for coffee after having brunch elsewhere. We all got lattes and they were pretty good! It’s a really aesthetic cafe with pretty decor. Would stay here just to chill and chat with friends.

The coffee's rougher than most of the fancy coffee roasters (which I like) but still very creamy with some interesting flavour. Good but barely good enough for the price - being stronger or getting some syrupy flavour could have improved it. The rest of the cafe is perfect though, from the nice area (which unfortunately can be crowded even out of peak times) to the staff and the wonderful food - the meals are excellent but they even put effort into sourcing very very buttery croissant that didn't lose flakiness as those often do, and charged less for it than some fancy bakeries charge. I should have asked where they got it.

The waitress was quite rude and pushed you to order. Do not expect to feel full after the dish as you will find the portion very tiny.
At the end of the day they even told us they couldn’t find our order as someone else paid for our meals . They had to recreate our order for us to pay for it. No apologies at all. Very unprofessional!
I went back home and ate to avoid feeling too hungry.
Avoid avoid!

Started off with great decor and good food. The waitstaff were a let down. The lady’s communication style was rude and expressive with an overzealous sense of entitlement and attitude towards customers. The overriding message presented to customers is that you must feel ever so thankful to have a seat in this cafe. Not welcoming at all.
Big Sammy
Really cool venue with friendly staff. The food was very reasonably priced. The coffee was fantastic. Unfortunately the English breakfast tea was warm.

Had the Buckwheat waffle with pineapple and blueberries and the Fried buttermilk chicken burger for brunch. Was quite tasty. Serving was a bit small but enough for us. Coffee was good. It gets quite busy at around 11am so have to get in there early! Service was prompt

Vegan Bowl (4/5): A healthy bowl full of flavour! One of the best vegan bowls I’ve had with superbly cooked and flavoured mushrooms and a lovely mix of quinoa and grains. It looks too healthy to be true but the flavours and the textures will surprise you 👌🏻

Beans Medley (4/5): This is a GENEROUS serving of beans! The sourdough has a smear of buttery pesto and goes so well with the hearty bowl of beans. If you love something saucy, this one is a winner!

Iced Chai Latte (3/5): The chai was a bit underwhelming. It needed more flavour but when I asked for sweeter they didn’t have any so that was a bit of a let down.

Overall, would highly recommend the food here. Stellar brunch ☺️

Mecca really nails the converted warehouse vibe. The open space, clean decor and friendly staff help to create an open and friendly atmosphere. I ordered a panini sandwich which features pickled relish, an egg, bacon strips, aioli and some rocket ($14). The sandwich was simple and didn't look all too impressive but the flavours worked well on the crusty bread. The pickled relish was the standout and helped to cut through the saltiness of the bacon keeping it fresh. Also ft is the brocollini dish with spiced quiona, feta and rocket ($16), this dish was definitely one of the healthier choices and had a great spicy kick to it.

Came here today with a friend to get away from the heat :D. The staff was very friendly, and made us feel very welcomed. Mecca has a very nice and comfortable atmosphere which was great to just chill and chat in.

I ordered a milk coffee over ice and my friend got a soy latte. The ice coffee was great, but the coffee beans used for the soy latte wasn't to her taste but I personally liked it. Personal preferences I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
Later on, I ordered Charred Corn Tacos which also tasted great and was filling. The spicy and tangy flavours melded together nicely. I actually ordered it 2 minutes before lunch ended (oops) but they managed to make it for me which I am grateful for :D.
Overall, a very lovely cafe :).

Overall it was satisfactory. The price is fair with the food taste and quality. Just did not like the environment that much. But generally, the food was tasty.

Mecca has always been an institution when it came to coffee but with this their latest offering they’ve transformed form not only producing great cups of coffee but great food also.

The setting is really comfy and allows you to be relaxed
Foodasociety
So disappointed with my takeaway coffee. I asked for a cappuccino not a 3/4 full. For $4 you wouldn't even call it a coffee. It smelt of beans but was watery and tasteless. The "barista" needs to take a few basic 101 coffee classes.
Huishan Lim
The nourish bowl is really, really, good. It may look all green and tasteless but this is packed full of flavour. The interior was gorgeous too with its industrial-warehouse vibes. Service was good too!
Brunonono...
Not a high expectation meal but sometimes it's the mundane that surprise the most...

So the avo toast with the surprise of almost fried haloumi was actually very pleasant...don't know if it's planned or their stingy but the end result is better than dense slabs....but we digress some do people like that....

The breakfast bowl, clean, refreshing and well seasoned. Probably too healthy for my personal preference so a side of fried chicken please...but would we order it again...yes! Only with a side of chicken for me but....sometimes food is too healthy and gets too tense.... sometimes

The waffles, simple combination of just syrup, cream and figs with a fresh waffle, well executed is faultless...dont need to be fancy to make us happy, just tasty!

@KeraBearEats
Came here just for coffee, but judging by the coffee alone it was great! Staff were nice and helpful, and our brew was excellent.

Recommendation: try the Nitro Brew, it is smooth and creamy.

Mecca is a stunning cafe, laid out in a fresh way compared to a lot of cafes. It has lots of light and high ceilings. The staff do create the most amazing vibe but are still friendly.

I had poached eggs on sourdough with avo. The eggs were poached to perfection. The chutney was a nice tasty edition. It was definitely enjoyable but unfortunately I wasn't blown away by it.

Beautiful interiors and the perfect lighting for food photos! However, they changed the menu and it was quite disappointing (especially if you're after vegan options).
I had these chickpea pancakes with preserved vegetables on the side. It looked great but didn't taste so good. Pancakes had no flavour, hummus just didn't taste right and the other sides were just a bit sour. They also forgot to remove the feta cheese on my dish which was quite disappointing. They ended up just removing it and adding more vegetables.
My friend had a mushroom roll which again, was nothing spectacular. We did get a bowl of wedges. They had vegan aioli which made everything better! The wedges weren't crispy but rather quite soft.
Staff were friendly but not very knowledgable about the food options. Cups appeared a little un clean also. Would probably try again if they switch back their menu? The old one (on Zomato) looks much better!
Look at the photographs, my friends! Mecca is definitely one of the most beautiful cafes in Sydney. Surrounded by car repair yards, the cafe is situated in a former warehouse along Bourke Road. Parking can be a little troublesome during lunch hours as I spent about 15 minutes searching for an available space. The cafe features a high ceiling and huge wooden tables with black hairpin legs.

The food is slightly disappointing. I tried the kimchi chicken burger and was expecting a tantalizing onslaught of sour and spicy kimchi fighting for attention from my tastebuds. However, there is minimal or non-existent kimchi. I would suggest that the chef to marinate the chicken pieces longer to get rid of the "foul" chicken smell too.

Nice interior, pleasant service, awesome coffee. The food could be improved, though. My plate comprised numerous components which all tasted great individually but weren't as enjoyable when combined. Also, my poached eggs weren't runny - this is an easily avoidable mistake and so particularly frustrating!
Nadiaargh
Food was average, coffee was nice, the star of the meals were the delicious crunchy chips! Will most likely come back but just for coffee, the menu isn't for me. Staff were nice and friendly and the cafe itself is homey and very pretty.

Great cafe in a converted warehouse. The brunch menu was delicious, coffee was good and staff were friendly. Look forward to coming back again soon!

Mecca Coffe was the place to go for our lunch fix and we were absolutely delighted by an astonishing looking venue 😍

We ordered their Gesh and the Smokey Beef Slaw as well as two of their single origin espressos 💪

The Gesh is a bit of a confusion on the plate, flavours are all over the place and they don't tie together but at least is on the healthy side and quite filling. The Slaw was a bit better in terms of flavours but half of the meat was on the chewy side 😕

The coffee though was FANTASTIC, we loved every sip and we would definitely come back for it 😍

Thank you for having us 🙏

Popped in for a coffee and a bite to eat after training. Atmosphere is cool, great trendy vibe, staff look hipster and the venue has an industrial feel; exposed brick walls, wooden tables and sights of a drum kit which is pretty trendy. Grabbed a seat - really nice and welcoming staff and we were served quickly. I ordered my usual latte and loved the latte art - great skill. Hubby got the nitro coffee which looks just like a beer with a nice head; smooth and like a cold drip, but from the tap. I ordered a brown rice salad with a poached egg, kim Chi, zucchini, lentil sprouts, green beans. Very fresh, healthy with a nice acidic flavour and a great light option.

Snuck into Mecca after antique shopping spree and just wanted to plonk on a chair. The cafe had an inviting appearance and the staff were really nice. They nailed the chai with milk . Orange cake tad too sweet for me.
Monica
New favourite spot in Sydney, been here twice in 1 week. Food tastes amazing & home cooked, coffee was great and the people working make the place. Highly recommended! Only negative is trying to find parking.

Brunch like a hipster. Simplistic modern decor, long queues and tasty brekkie burgers.
Like I mentioned the queue was long! But which thriving brunch place isn't in the eastern suburbs?
G. And I had the ham and egg breakfast burger plus the poached eggs with a side of bacon. Bacon for brunch is a staple! how can you pass on that?
The poached eggs were quite ordinary, coffee (what they're known for) a beverage I only have when I know/read the place can brew, lived up to expectations.
Brioche was soft and fluffy, the Ham was amazeballs, if I had more room in my stomach I would've had the fried chicken burger also!
Why didn't I choose that? Seems a tad unhealthy having fried chicken as my first meal of the day. Perhaps next time I'll pair it with a kale smoothie perhaps.
Would I go back? Yes definitely for the brekkie burgers and coffee!

Where most cafes start out in a fringe CBD suburb and then expand into a city outlet, Mecca Espresso have done the reverse. They made their name in the city, and long have been the benchmark of truly great coffee at their King Street space. They have expanded out into the suburbs beginning with Ultimo and now have combined their roasting facility with an expansive location in Alexandria.

Mecca has been on my list for a while. I've tried their city branch and really liked the coffee so when in Alexandria. I made a point of stopping in. My coffee was excellent and my fried chicken, Kim chi and mayo roll was sensational. Fresh light bun, succulent chicken and perfectly balanced flavours. It was also a welcome relief to be somewhere so spacious - next time I'll bring my cat and we can have a swinging old time. Nice friendly staff, on point all round, definitely a keeper.

Loved this place to bits! Honestly customer service is everything 😍 AMAZING STAFF! Modern interior, very big and bright. The menu was simple and different, I ordered the Fried chicken burger + iced coffee. Enjoyed it thoroughly. Also child friendly, yay!

I just been there yesterday it was my second times service was good but unfortunately they just change menu, this time the menu was a bit disappointed.

This place is absolutely gorgeous. I love the industrial design. Smith and Carmody did a fantastic job. Go for the food of course, it's good, but the ambiance is the main draw for me at this cafe.

Went on a Wednesday lunchtime, great customer service and amazing food. Really elegant American Art Deco style interior. Mushroom and egg roll tasted amazing even for a big meat eater, food came out fast and was very reasonably priced. Best coffee I've had in a while.

Really cool place in a convinuent location while waiting for automobile repairs.
A bit pricey, but in terms of service, food presentation, and taste, an exellent choice.
Adam Smogurzewski
An awesome venue in a restored warehouse

Their coffee is exceptional but buying it by the kg is one of the most expensive in Sydney at $20+ per 250g

Went here on Sunday morning and the place was already packed and loud..
Had their Sourdough toast as I need something sweet. Lightly toasted and served with ricotta, honey, peanut butter and blueberry, this dish looks so pretty and perfect if you want something light in the morning.
Don't forget to also get their hand cut chips! It's crispy on the outside while soft on the inside. So good!

What a massive let down. After reading all the raving reviews I was looking forward to breakfast here.

Service was slow, food was awful, coffee small and weak, and quite expensive for what we got...

The coffee was $4.00 for a tiny tea cup. It surely must only have had half a shot of weak coffee in it. The taste was awful, not only was it too weak but because they use jersey milk, it was way too strong and overpowered the taste of the little coffee we had. It was undrinkable.

Their menu is limited. For breakfast I ordered the 'buttermilk french toast with labneh and marmalade' What I received was soggy french toast with yoghurt (still with the whey) and orange peel in syrup. My partner couldn't even eat his muesli cereal, the milk was so disgusting. After making our comments the staff were apologetic, but really did nothing. They just took the plates away and charged us full price for a uneaten meal and coffee.

I know I wont be going back. Hope this helps you make a more informed decision than we did. Don't waste your money.

We enjoyed an exceptional breakfast at Mecca Coffee in Alexandria. As soon as we arrived we were welcomed by the friendly and attentive staff. Our meals were delicious and perfectly sized. We really could not fault our experience and will definitely return to this local gem.

Renowned for the robust flavours of their coffee, Mecca Coffee is their newly opened cafe and roastery in Alexandria. Housed in their roasting warehouse with the front sectioned off as the cafe, boasting a large inviting minimalistic space designed by Smith and Carmody.

Saturday mornings really are best spent here. Small menu but consistently good (3 visits now).

Buttermilk French toast and fried chicken with kimchi roll - epic!

And naturally, super coffee!
GoodFoodDude
Cold uninterested service from multiple staff. I couldn't enjoy the positives from the food (which was quite good) because of how annoyed I felt by the service. The styling is industrial which you could only expect from the location which, although doesn't offer anything very different is still will executed and pleasant. I would really like to hear the service improves so I can go back but I certainly won't bother any time soon

Terrible, don't go.
Cold welcome to a trendy warehouse sauna (needs aircon), shuffled to the rear to wait on tiny stools, forgotten about and not offered menu, half hour later offered a share table. Lovely coffees came out separately and slowly and given to wrong people. Food took about 35mins to arrive, my request to have french toast added to the boring ham and eggs brekky was tasty but a complete rip off (surcharged $11 for french toast and told to stick to the menu next time!) There won't be a next time...
Princess_Porky
I really like this place. The open plan warehouse and minimalist look is very cool, the service is pretty friendly, the food is great and the coffee is excellent. Parking however, is absolutely shite. Quite surprising given it's in the back streets of Alexandria, but I guess all the businesses there take up the limited spots. Many a time, I've had to turn around and go elsewhere because I couldn't find a spot. That's literally my only complaint coz otherwise this is a great place.
Annie Sornsakda
Cool people, beautiful interior and comforting lattes :)
Intrigued to try their food next time.
A welcoming atmosphere to families, individuals and friends.
Hard to find parking though :(
La Petite Bobo
This is a great little addition to the fast-growing cafe industry in Alexandria. The interiors are worth the trip in itself - based on a stunning converted warehouse. The staff were extremely lovely, being overly patient whilst we caught up before ordering. I had the coconut black rice pudding which was so delicious and light - not overly sweet. The coffee, as with any Mecca cafe, was perfect. Make sure to get in early on this weekend as this one fills up very very fast!

Food: My pasture raised ham roll was very nice and tasty. Also ordered one of the bowls which was a generous serving and the toast dish was good.

Ambience: Kind of quiet for a Saturday afternoon, but enjoyable.

Service: Friendly.

Yes: The decor - like the concept and a fan of the chairs.

No: The iced coffees. Served in a glass that looks like it's from a hotel, not to mention it was bland tasting.

Overall: Would go back to admire the interior again and try other things on the menu.

We arrived 9am on a Wednesday so it was quiet. On a busy strip, so it was easy to drive past the unassuming entrance.

Cool fitout and mezzanine level would be neat if it was crowded.

We ordered the cereal, ham and egg roll and the frenchy toast (their spelling). All good. Everything has an individual twist, which made it interesting. Coffee was OK, and service friendly.

We would go back.
Rowena Penniment
Coffee is bland and flavourless and highly over-rated by reviewers who obviously don't know good coffee. The menu is limited but acceptable, and could use a few more words to describe the offerings. But what is it with these hip warehouse conversions that makes the staff feel they can start referring to their customers as Darling or Sweetie or Love? Ditch the patronising names and just stick to polite and professional service.
Rosie Posie
Beautiful large warehouse conversion so you don't feel like you're squished next to your neighbours (unlike at most Surry Hills cafes) so that's a bonus. Coffee is very good and the food is appropriate for lunch and probably brunch but I wouldn't recommend going there for breakfast.
Ben 001
Coffee is overrated but food is good but limited menu. Overall good place for Sunday lunch ....parking is non existent and queues aren't too bad yet.
Richard Universe
Do yourself a favour and try a coffee from this place. Barista is the real deal. Milk was nice and creamy. Best flat white in Alexandria by a country mile!
TWang
One of the best piccolo lattes I have had recently.
FB
Best coffee I have had all week in Sydney. Thank uou
Aleks
Even with a minimum knowledge about coffee you'd say thank you for this place. Coffee been is absolutely fantastic, soy milk (Bon soy) cost twice more than any other, app beat the Q bring the whole thing to extra level. I wouldn't ask for extra hot coffee since you are taking a risk of having coffee or milk burned LOL
When I'm two stations away in the morning in place the order and 5min later I just walk aeay with a perfect cup of coffee in my hand. This is the way to start the day :)
SuperDarlo
Good tasting coffee but not hot enough for me, even on 'extra hot' request
James
Great coffee. We get coffee here almost every morning.

Whilst we have other coffee options in our building, the coffee here is better and well worth the 2min walk.

Note: for some reason, the sit down coffee is better than the take away version - may be it's the milk quantity.

Enjoy!!

Excellent. Pity that no good coffee shop opens on a Sunday. Mecca is not immune to that, however they have friendly, nice staff making awesome coffee.
