Ever since he moved to Sydney, Mr RnB has been searching for a venue that captured the spirit of Britain’s greatest contribution to mankind – the pub. And on one dark and wintery night in Sydney, he may have just found it. ceilings were low, the wood was dark and the beer was cold. The scene was the upstairs bar of Surry
This bar has a great atmosphere and setting. There are wooden tables and chairs, with various mounted heads on the walls. The lights are interesting too, and warmly dimmed. A great place to hang out with a meal and drink.
I’ve had the chicken schnitzel here twice and it was perfect. The salad and chips it came with was also great. My companions ordered burgers and were also satisfied. Trivia night was relaxed and lively too.
Classic, old fashioned pub with a big menu of all traditional favourites. From steak to schnitzels, burgers & lots of nibbles to share, there is something to please everyone in big groups or small. The schnitzel was lovely, fish had a nice crunchy coating, steak was over done. Chips are dusted with chicken salt which is addictive. A huge list of beers & staff are friendly and service fast.
Our gang from school usually meets at the Shakespeare but to try something different, we went to Dove and Olive. I like the name, which reminds me of all those pubs in London with the same theme: Slug and Lettuce, Hare and Cabbage, Pig and Leek. OK. I am making up some of these but the combinations seemed endless.
Who doesn’t like a quick fish and chips from the local pub?
Stopped by Dove & Olive with my coworkers last Friday during our work team lunch as they all felt like some good old pub grub.
I couldn’t make up my mind between the rump steak or the battered barramundi so of course, I ended up with the fish (low risk of over-cooking).
I was surprised the fish tasted fresh (not fishy but you know that ocean taste?), the flesh was soft and flaky and most importantly, the barramundi was perfectly battered all around. The chips also came out fresh, crispy and hot. The side salad is just salad with some dressing so I’m not going to dive any deeper into talking about that. And finally the chunky tartare sauce did pack a punch in flavour and complimented the fish well. Serving size was also very generous!
The service here was very quick and attentive, even though it was pretty busy during lunch time. They also had a sauce shelf where you could pick up any extra bottles of sauce for your food such as the classic tomato, bbq and they even had sriracha!
I’m not a person who would usually pick a pub to eat at as a first option but this place served pretty well.
The food here wasn't too bad.
It has a cute little seating area which is nice and the service wasn't too bad either.
Prices are pretty average and serving sizes aren't too bad.
Came here for Christmas lunch with colleagues.
They have great selection of beers. Finger food is great. Main is your typical pub food but with better presentation and taste.
If you are in Surry or surrounding suburbs and fancy craft beverages - look no further. With $5 schooners and 24 beers on tap (I counted) I have a feeling this pub is leading the charge with carft beer.
We had pork and gravey wedges (don't know what it is called on menu) but it was worth every penny. We were a group of 20 and the staff looked after us.
Give this hidden gem a go you won't regret it.
The best Mushroom Risotto in Surry Hills! Yes, you heard me right. This resto bar has so much to offer, they have a really good seating section, good staff and great food. They have a variety of drinks to choose from and they also help you with complimenting your drink with your dish. I'm going back very soon!
A cool pub, large size with an upstairs area as well. They've got great pub food options and usually pretty tasty. I got a schnitzel with mushroom sauce, a side of fries and salad.
Unfortunately maybe because the place was busy, it was a bit cold. We also got a side of sweet potato fries and hickory smoked mac and cheese balls. These were good. Footy is on tv and a good crowd. A great range of beers on tap.
What a cute little pub in Surry Hills within walking distance of Central Station.
Came here for a 30th for dinner and drinks and got the closed balcony area. The food was excellent pub grub and inexpensive. Huge beer list on tap, unique cocktails and all the other usual drinks as well. Service is polite and sufficient as they accommodated most of our requests (eg., putting the cake in the freezer).
Easy to spend a few hours here. On the night we were there, it was packed with people catching the rugby matches so it does get rowdy and crowded on the main floor. The upper floor is mainly for dining patrons.
Great food especially the jalapeno burger and awesome trivia night on Tuesday! Also visited Sunday about a month ago and the roast was delicious and the craft beers were great! Did the whole night with a couple of beers and a roast for under $35!
Top notch pub grub. Came here with a group of four and really enjoyed it. Fast and friendly service. Very generous portion size and unbelievable value. Wasn't drinking but they have a great selection of craft beers on offer. Would definitely come back here
Excellent place for quality pub food and an excellent draft selection highlighting microbrews. I was staying down near central station and was a frequent visitor here.
I simply love this pub due to its craft beers and they always have craft beer on tap-and a lot of it!!
More importantly this is a pub that has the Battle of the Beer-this is where a competition occurs between two different brewers, and the winner is on tap for the entire month.
Food in general was average, the fries, sweet potato fries and nachos were good. Pizzas were nice.
A must go place for any beer lover ❤️
Dove and Olive is one of Sydney’s top craft beer venues, offering punters a choice from over 20 taps of local and international craft beers on regular rotation, along with a decent bottle selection.
If you're a carnivore you have to be here, amazing food and good staff,
One of my order got messed up but staff handled it professionally,
If suggest this place to my friends and kin for sure.
Sorry my pics suck. Went there for a good few decent pints and they have a lot to offer ! The place was quite nice and very well located and the staff was funny and helpful ! Got the ribs for myself, it's a bit surprising as it doesn't come as a rack or half rack but a bone with a good chunk of meat attached to it. The meat was very very tasty and I was craving for more, but actually after finishing my plate I'm not sure I could have had more as it also comes with fries (nothing special about them) and a home made kale slaw actually tasty ! Will go back for food and beers !
Thursday burger night, beef, crumbed chicken or pulled pork $9.90. Beef was bland, chicken was more flavour combination. The size was smaller but with chips and for this price, it's good value.
Lots of varieties of craft beers, price is reasonable. Service at counter was too cool to be friendly.
Great Pub with a good beverage selection and tasty food. We'll definitely be busting often. Service is good, good crowd and decor is stylish & comfortable.
Great pub in Surry Hills. We came here after a sporting match at the SCG and it was packed but service was fast and food was good. I ordered the beef nachos and was very satisfied - big portion and one of the beet nachos I've had in Sydney!
Excellent food, very fast service and the friendliest staff in town.Large servings and very fresh food.Their lunch specials are excellent value.Well done.
I just had a really nice dinner here. The food was really good and in affordable price. I tried their Angus rump steak with chips and salad. Nice place and recommended!
Just up the hill from Central train station you will find some awesome little pubs around Surry Hills, one of which is the Dove and Olive.
This pub has an awesome selection of craft beer and plenty of yummy food.
On our recent visit we had sweet potato wedges, buffalo wings and chipolata pulled pork po boy.
The servings are generous and food is well
presented and very tasty.
We have been here a few times before and as always have a great time.
Well worth a visit if in the area.
Love this place - booked for 15 people on a Friday night for my birthday and had a wonderful time. Drink specials kept prices way down and everything on the menu was reasonably priced. The food was absolutely delicious - I had the rump steak with blue cheese sauce and also tried the pork ribs. Both were very tasty and surprisingly good value. Overall, the menu is classic pub fare with a bit of flare, which for me makes all the difference. Meals arrived swiftly, even with the pub totally packed out. I'm not a big beer drinker, but there are many choices available and they even have suggestions for matching meals on the menu.
This is better than your average pub grub. Craft beers, great food and cool vibes. Stand out dishes for us include the crispy skinned salmon with seasonal veggies and dill. That soft and flaky meat! We never wanted it to end. The Crispy Pork Belly Salad was also a winner. Generous portions of SUPER crispy pork stop a fresh salad. Hello, Summer.
Make sure you grab a side of sweet potato wedges (topped with cheese, of course!) for a little bit of comfort food indulgence.
The Dove & Olive is dangerous close to becoming our local away from home. TGOF approved!
Decent steak here I had the one with the blue vein cheese and asparagus. It was cooked well and it also came with shoestring fries. My friend got the burger and I sound recommend that one though. The atmosphere is pretty chill and not too crowded on a Sunday night.
Awesome vibe in this cute little pub. Love all the decor, the atmosphere was great. We got pizzas and they were really good, would have loved more topping on them, but taste was great. Drinks were decently priced and I loved that Stonewood was on tap! Overall a nice little place with good food and drinks
Once you enter Dove & Olive you will quickly realise that this is not your average pub. The polished wood and leather interiors are not the only fancy things this inner city tavern has to offer. Every Mon-Thurs you can grab yourself a $9.90 meal and it is an absolute bargain!
I love a good lobster roll and was stoked to see their offer of $9.90 po'boys every Tuesday. The bargain menus are clearly popular as even on a quiet Tuesday, tables were mostly filled or reserved. We settled on 3 different po'boys, the lobster, Cajun chicken and pulled pork. Each was served in a 9inch baguette with a side of French fries.
Portions are very generous and for $9.90 you just cant go wrong. To be brutally honest, the lobster was a little overcooked and the pork too dry, but really, who cares, the chips are awesome and drinks are reasonably priced. Bring some friends and it'll be a great night out for everyone and won't burn a whole in your wallets.
If you're not a fan of po'boys, Monday is Schnitty night, Wednesday's steak and Thursday's for burgers. There's 4 out of your 7 dinners planned this week, you're welcome.
Fantastic friendly staff. The service is great! Your people are definitely your asset. Had the schnitzel, wings, cheese sticks (must), sweet potato, pie (amazing). The place itself is great for a relaxing after work catch up with friends. Can get busy so make sure you book
A nice local style pub. I love the specials at this place and food theme nights eg. Schnitzel nights. The lobster roll special was ok - I enjoyed the lobster mix just by itself rather then on the roll. Great place for a beer with mates.

I'd been meaning to get to the Dove & Olive for yonks and finally made it on a Monday pre gig at the Horden. It had a really cosy atmosphere and I was surprised how busy it was for a Monday. Great selection of beers on tap and vast menu to chose from. The food was ok, not mind blowing but tasty enough and decent portions. Overall a good experience if you're looking for a traditional pub vibe!
I was expecting much worse for the $15 you pay for the half rack and rump, it wasn't mind blowing but it was cheap food done equal to the price you pay.

We popped in to Dove & Olive at Surry Hills for dinner before our karaoke night. While we were trying to find a table to fit the half-dozen of us, we saw a waitstaff carry two big delicious-looking pizzas to a table. I was sure I was going to get a pizza, and became super sure I was definitely going to get them when I saw that pizzas were on specials on Saturdays! There were only 4 choices so the decisions were easy; Richard and I shared The Dove (as I always say, you should order any dish named after the place) and the Shrimp & Spicy Pork Sausage pizzas. They both tasted as good as they looked, all for only $9 each. The others enjoyed their Wild Mushroom pizzas as well. I hope to revisit on different nights to try their other specials.
My friend was still hungry after dinner so we sought a place with drinks and some food. We settled on Dove and Olive. It was lively and jam packed. We sat down and my friends settled for cider. I had my typical vodka cranberry. We sat around chatting about travelling in areas of Korea and Japan. Our drinks rested on a record which was funky. The decore was trendy full of children of the 90's. We snacked on potato gems which were attempting to be fancy. They were tasty but titled " D&O Tater Tots Parmesan mashed potato poppers with house made mixed pepper, celery salt & aioli". The aioli was nice but I wasn't a fan of the mixed pepper and celery. Will come back to try other food Drinks on a record Potato Gems - $8
This is a great place to have a beer with your mates. It's got a laid back pub vibe without the old men and smell of stale beer. I would definitely come back for a Sunday session.
Solid.
In brief, Dove and Olive has become a sort of fave for solid pub grub. All menu items that I have thus far tried, including the burgers / sandwiches and schnitzels, are consistently good. The fries, however, are generally too salty for my liking.
The wide selection of craft beers is a job well done (and the primary reason for such a high rating). However, the the service has widely varied, from pleasant to downright inattentive, rude, and unhelpful. (Interestingly, I was once served by a staff who had no idea what a chicken parmigiana was. Another time, we had a rude guy who seemed under pressure but also seemed snobby, rude and almost aggressive in the first place; his accent was also unusual and difficult to place, so perhaps this is a cultural thing?)
The interior design and theme is inspired; and, the place is not too bad, but it does become packed quite easily and noisy in the evenings.
Love the Wednesday $9 steak deal here - delicious chargrilled steak with chips and salad, amazing value! Great beer selection - heaps of craft beers.
This place keeps getting busier and busier, a great, unpretentious local.
The brioche bun topped off a delicious burger. The side of crispy fries and salad made this a perfect burger, next time they can leave off the tomato sauce, they're bottles of sauce available for self service was the best we've seen.
Love it. We've loved the Dove and Olive since they were taken over from the Devonshire. Great food at such a stupidly good price. We were lucky for this to be our local for a long time.
Interesting deco, nice food at a good price.
Craft Beer Heaven!. Has to be the best selection of craft beer in Sydney!
Must try the the Blue Cheese Steak & match it with the delicious Riverside "69"
Surry hills winner. The D&O has gone from strength to strength since the it's been under new management. My group of friends frequent the venue regularly, and there is always something new; whether its food specials, a new craft beer, or some taxidermy hanging on the wall. Great value pub grub too if you're feeling peckish. The dishes are better than other options in Devonshire St, and still as affordable. Highly recommended.
Good hot dog and beautiful salad during lunch!
Sunday afternoon drinks here were fun. Nice vibe and cocktails under $15 is OK with us.
Yesterday I was here around 12.30, and this Smoked Beef Ribs on food special just can’t be ignored.
When the food came, first thing I noticed was .. oh… how do I eat this whiteout being messy?
Beef Ribs was plated in kinda entree/small sharing plate.
It’s really hard to eat without being messy on the table.
In my opinion, Chef could use better plate for presentation.
Food was flavour some, but since chips was tucked underneath the beef ribs it self, and soaked with some braising sauce, it was all soggy.
Overall it was great, service was good enough and place was clean.
However If you are UFC fans, this place is not showing pay preview of UFC.
One of the better places in Sydney for a Sunday Roast. The vegetables and Yorkshire pudding and gravy were tasty. The beef was nice but the lamb lacked flavour. Cost $26 and portions were generous (loved the extra gravy on the side as well).
Pub is a little dingey and could do with some TLC. Service was ok.
We had a sensational Sunday lunch enjoying the winter sun outside. The pub was very busy and there were alot of places to sit inside though it was noisy. The roast of the day was so large we easily could have shared the plate and as it was we definitely didn’t need dinner that night! Enjoyed a couple of middies with our meal suggested by the bar staff. Everyone was super friendly and obliging. Will definitely return for a meal!
One of the best Sunday roasts we've had in Sydney... huge portions, tons of very tasty gravy. Good veggies. The Yorkshire pudding wasn't very good but given how good the rest of the meal was, we didn't mind. Great value for money!!
Superb beer selection and friendly staff. They have many local brewers on tap with a board providing more information on type, ABV, price etc. Which really helps you decide and know what you're going to get!
The food is nothing exceptional, but definitely good enough for a pub feed.
Great for casual catch ups or work drinks.
A charming and quaint Surry Hills pub that provides a great option for functions.
We hired out an upstairs room for a birthday party and were impressed by the quality options for food, alcohol and the space.
The space itself is large enough to accommodate 30 people comfortably and the decor with cute stain-glass lights and hunting lodge busts added to the quaint atmosphere. All in all would recommend for a dinner and drink or two, as well as functions.
Busy pub with great atmosphere. We went today for Sunday lunch. Lucky to find a free table as most were reserved. Didn't think to make a booking, so would highly recommend reserving table. We had their Sunday Roast (lamb) and the classic cheese burger with chips. Both hearty and big serves.
