Ever since he moved to Sydney, Mr RnB has been searching for a venue that captured the spirit of Britain’s greatest contribution to mankind – the pub. And on one dark and wintery night in Sydney, he may have just found it. ceilings were low, the wood was dark and the beer was cold. The scene was the upstairs bar of Surry
This bar has a great atmosphere and setting. There are wooden tables and chairs, with various mounted heads on the walls. The lights are interesting too, and warmly dimmed. A great place to hang out with a meal and drink.
I’ve had the chicken schnitzel here twice and it was perfect. The salad and chips it came with was also great. My companions ordered burgers and were also satisfied. Trivia night was relaxed and lively too.
Classic, old fashioned pub with a big menu of all traditional favourites. From steak to schnitzels, burgers & lots of nibbles to share, there is something to please everyone in big groups or small. The schnitzel was lovely, fish had a nice crunchy coating, steak was over done. Chips are dusted with chicken salt which is addictive. A huge list of beers & staff are friendly and service fast.
Our gang from school usually meets at the Shakespeare but to try something different, we went to Dove and Olive. I like the name, which reminds me of all those pubs in London with the same theme: Slug and Lettuce, Hare and Cabbage, Pig and Leek. OK. I am making up some of these but the combinations seemed endless.
Who doesn’t like a quick fish and chips from the local pub?
Stopped by Dove & Olive with my coworkers last Friday during our work team lunch as they all felt like some good old pub grub.
I couldn’t make up my mind between the rump steak or the battered barramundi so of course, I ended up with the fish (low risk of over-cooking).
I was surprised the fish tasted fresh (not fishy but you know that ocean taste?), the flesh was soft and flaky and most importantly, the barramundi was perfectly battered all around. The chips also came out fresh, crispy and hot. The side salad is just salad with some dressing so I’m not going to dive any deeper into talking about that. And finally the chunky tartare sauce did pack a punch in flavour and complimented the fish well. Serving size was also very generous!
The service here was very quick and attentive, even though it was pretty busy during lunch time. They also had a sauce shelf where you could pick up any extra bottles of sauce for your food such as the classic tomato, bbq and they even had sriracha!
I’m not a person who would usually pick a pub to eat at as a first option but this place served pretty well.
The food here wasn't too bad.
It has a cute little seating area which is nice and the service wasn't too bad either.
Prices are pretty average and serving sizes aren't too bad.
Came here for Christmas lunch with colleagues.
They have great selection of beers. Finger food is great. Main is your typical pub food but with better presentation and taste.
If you are in Surry or surrounding suburbs and fancy craft beverages - look no further. With $5 schooners and 24 beers on tap (I counted) I have a feeling this pub is leading the charge with carft beer.
We had pork and gravey wedges (don't know what it is called on menu) but it was worth every penny. We were a group of 20 and the staff looked after us.
Give this hidden gem a go you won't regret it.
The best Mushroom Risotto in Surry Hills! Yes, you heard me right. This resto bar has so much to offer, they have a really good seating section, good staff and great food. They have a variety of drinks to choose from and they also help you with complimenting your drink with your dish. I'm going back very soon!
A cool pub, large size with an upstairs area as well. They've got great pub food options and usually pretty tasty. I got a schnitzel with mushroom sauce, a side of fries and salad.
Unfortunately maybe because the place was busy, it was a bit cold. We also got a side of sweet potato fries and hickory smoked mac and cheese balls. These were good. Footy is on tv and a good crowd. A great range of beers on tap.
Yesterday I was here around 12.30, and this Smoked Beef Ribs on food special just can’t be ignored.
When the food came, first thing I noticed was .. oh… how do I eat this whiteout being messy?
Beef Ribs was plated in kinda entree/small sharing plate.
It’s really hard to eat without being messy on the table.
In my opinion, Chef could use better plate for presentation.
Food was flavour some, but since chips was tucked underneath the beef ribs it self, and soaked with some braising sauce, it was all soggy.
Overall it was great, service was good enough and place was clean.
However If you are UFC fans, this place is not showing pay preview of UFC.
One of the better places in Sydney for a Sunday Roast. The vegetables and Yorkshire pudding and gravy were tasty. The beef was nice but the lamb lacked flavour. Cost $26 and portions were generous (loved the extra gravy on the side as well).
Pub is a little dingey and could do with some TLC. Service was ok.
We had a sensational Sunday lunch enjoying the winter sun outside. The pub was very busy and there were alot of places to sit inside though it was noisy. The roast of the day was so large we easily could have shared the plate and as it was we definitely didn’t need dinner that night! Enjoyed a couple of middies with our meal suggested by the bar staff. Everyone was super friendly and obliging. Will definitely return for a meal!
One of the best Sunday roasts we've had in Sydney... huge portions, tons of very tasty gravy. Good veggies. The Yorkshire pudding wasn't very good but given how good the rest of the meal was, we didn't mind. Great value for money!!
Superb beer selection and friendly staff. They have many local brewers on tap with a board providing more information on type, ABV, price etc. Which really helps you decide and know what you're going to get!
The food is nothing exceptional, but definitely good enough for a pub feed.
Great for casual catch ups or work drinks.
A charming and quaint Surry Hills pub that provides a great option for functions.
We hired out an upstairs room for a birthday party and were impressed by the quality options for food, alcohol and the space.
The space itself is large enough to accommodate 30 people comfortably and the decor with cute stain-glass lights and hunting lodge busts added to the quaint atmosphere. All in all would recommend for a dinner and drink or two, as well as functions.
Busy pub with great atmosphere. We went today for Sunday lunch. Lucky to find a free table as most were reserved. Didn't think to make a booking, so would highly recommend reserving table. We had their Sunday Roast (lamb) and the classic cheese burger with chips. Both hearty and big serves.
