I love their ribs with the number 5 hot chilli sauce, along with a side of spicy water spinach.
Expect your mouth to be on fire, delicious.
as an Indonesian, spicy food is LIFE. been craving for something spicy since I lived in Sydney. finally decided to come here after class with a friend.
it was definitely one of the spiciest sambal i’ve ever had in Australi but it was soooo good. the sambal has a fresh kick to it. must try!
During my recent visit to Sydney, stayed in a friend's place across the road of this resto. I usually dont bother to eat indo food when i'm abroad. Coz my friend dragged me i couldnt resist to try them. Ordered empal shalom aka fried beef indonesian style with sambal. I kid u not their sambal is sooooo spicy i can cry! I m not so into spicy food so for me the sambal is too hot for my taste. But the empal is sooo good defly taste like home but with australian fine beef, unlike the one we eat at home(indo).
Great place for Indo food with great varieties. Good price too. Love their chicken range as they got different type of chillies. Staff is ok.

SHALOM INDONESIAN RESTAURANT @CBD✨
One of the famous Indonesian restaurant in Sydney, this is located in the city. Came here if I crave for indonesian food, already tried so many food from their menus starting from:
-siomay
-bakso
-batagor💖
-es durian💖
-gado-gado
-mie ayam💖
-nasi goreng
-ayam penyet
So far from all of the menu, my favorite one would be with the “💖” emoji. Their ice durian is THE BOOMBBB! Best thing about this restaurant would also be how they serve a wide range variety of food, starting from rice, chicken, beef, siomay, and dessert that is suitable for everyone.
Rate? 3✨
Sometimes the ribs is a bit too dry, but they have always been so good at making the sambal!! The nasi campur tasted very authentic! One of the best indo restaurant in Sydney!
Home Style food, Shalom
This is an Indonesian restaurant located in the heart of the city. The place reminds me of Indonesia and it's cuisines. The diversity of flavours, the rusty feel of the food and it was delicious.

This restaurant have a great food. the iga woku is amazingly tasty. gule kambing also nice ( i suprisingly like it, although i ussually dont eat kambing 😂). you should be patient because the queque is long at lunchie time 😅. Soto ayam and soto betawi was nice. nasi and mie goreng is exactly the same like at indonesian restourant in jakarta. definetely will back for sure !!! 🖤😋
Had lunch at Shalom, the place was crowded and had to jump seats to fit myself in. Ordered beef ball soup and yes i did finish it. The soup had beef balls, tofu, noodles and some sort of fried bread. The food is worth the taste and affordable. I will recommend it to you (reading my comment) and to everyone. Beware they may charge you few cents extra for card payment. But that's ok.
This is my absolute favourite restaurant in Sydney! I have been a regular for around 6 years. I love going here with my mother. We would order ayam goreng shalom and sides such as siomay or fried tofu. Let me just start with the fried chicken, it's so juicy and cooked with amazing spices. Just eating it by itself is already delicious enough. But the chilli sauce, I love it so much. It's so spicy it would make me dizzy but I keep eating it. The service is fast and the staff is friendly. Everything on the menu is so tasty and I'm just so happy for this restaurant. I'm glad that they decided to sell their sambal sauce because my mother and I always buy a bottle every week as our main condiment. I have brought nearly all my friends here and they love this place and would always come back. Keep up the amazing work! I'm going tomorrow for the hundredth time.
I am a fan of Shalom. Have been coming here for years and have seen its popularity increase over time. We could come in at any given time and always get a table, these days it can be a 5-10min wait before you get seated. The beef rendang is so aromatic, absolutely beautiful. Just don't like how sometimes the meat is really fatty. Also the deep fried beef with the spiciest sauce I have ever had my life is my favourite. The sauce lights every being of you on fire, yet the aroma (eg kaffir line) is just to die for. I just wish they had a different name as Shalom is associated with cheap Jews, and I am a Shia Muslim and do not respect Jewish people.
Good Indonesia food that server the food quick and friendly staff but not all their food is good i only recommend the iga and the chicken the rest just ok
Have been here several times and have tried many of their dishes including chicken satay, chicken liver etc. Generally everything was pretty good and had authentic Indonesian food flavours.
During the most recent visit I bought their chicken noodle. It was quite tasty. Definitely a place that I will come back for more.
Wonderful and authentic taste of Indonesia. Anyone who haven't try Indonesian cuisine should come here. The price is affordable and the place is cozy
A small Indonesian place in the city that's a a straight to the point. Most of the meat comes grilled or fried with differet types and strengths of sauces. You order individually at the counter and there's a $20 minimum on each payment or you're stung witha surcharge.
We grabbed a Grilled Chicken with Manado Sauce, rated a 4/5 on the spice-o-metre. This was good! It really creeps up on you and gives you that good burn!
The vegetable side salad is exactly as pictured - one chopped tomato, a quarter chopped cucumber and some lettuce... no dress in. You'd normally complain but this really helped manage that good chilli burn so it was well worth it! The chicken comes with a plate of rice but we skipped that.
The staff are friendly and very cheery. The meals came out really quick. Overall a good session!
This is one of the places I go to when I miss Indonesian food. There’s always a queue everytime I went there. The “ayam goreng” is our favorite, tender yet crispy on the outside. Loved the “siomay” too. Tasted like home.

After going for sightseeing in the city. Me and my friend decided to have a dinner in this Indonesian restaurant. To Be honest since the first time arriving in Sydney, I never been in Indonesia restaurant literally.
I ordered spring roll and Soto daging and the taste were delicous also I had a cup of Tea Poci. Overall I feel satisfied with the food and the service as well. So I'll be back for sure
the real indonesian taste!been there 2 times and ordered ayam goreng bumbu bali, kangkung, pempek, rawon, somay, tempe and soto.the ayam goreng is the best!the spiciness really for the hardcore spicy people bcause its really spicy but still can taste the food really good!all food was good except for the somay for me overcooked being so soft.after all i really like the food.
Being an Indonesian who really misses food from home - this place is great! Delicious authentic Indonesian flavors! Best part: They have a variety of spicy sambals that are amazing. Downside: They should have more items on the menu like nasi goreng, etc.

We did take away fish and spicy sauce was amazing.... Satay sticks were really bad. Was very disappointed with their pa king... Things in glad bags... Spoiled the dinner. Service was friendly... Fast and professional
Overall taste was good, just good. Not great. They have a great hospitality and this restaurant is just OK for Indonesian taste in CBD. Besides that, they are halal certified and located in the strategist area in CBD.
Restaurant was full on Friday night. We ordered the soto ayam, balinese fried chicken, green chilli fried chicken, and siumai bandung. Soto ayam was way too salty! It came just slightly warm, we requested for it to be heated again. Balinese and green chilli were spicy but bearable. The most unbearable part was the in-house sambal. It's soooo spicy that we can't even enjoy the dishes, bear in mind we are good with chilli but this sambal was over the limit. Rice came in decent (big) portion. I don't think I enjoyed the siumai bandung as it is half fishball and half mushy, confusing textures. This is the first time I tried this dish, perhaps it is meant to be like this. Service was alright too. All in all, it's a good place for Indonesian food in the CBD.

being Indonesian in Sydney, we sometimes miss the food from our country... and thank God for Shalom Indonesian restaurant as they're easily reachable in Sydney CBD and they have variety of Indonesian Food..... :)
Today we tried:
- AYAM BAKAR BUMBU BALI which is a grilled chicken with Balinese Sauce... they say the spicy meter is 4 out of 5... but for us who loves spicy food, it's only 2 out of 5... hehehe... ;p
- SIOMAY BANDUNG which is type of mixed fish cakes with peanut sauce... typical traditional food from Bandung province in Indonesia... normally we ate this with Kecap Manis (sweet soy sauce) and chilli sauce...
- TONG SENG KAMBING which is supposed to be goat soup in a smooth curry texture... but in here they used Lamb meat.. hehe... but it's actually not bad! this was our fav here! :)
it has lotsa indonesian herbs and spices. So tasty especially if you put Kecap Manis (sweet soy sauce) and chilli sauce in it.... combined with the coconut milk... just yummmmm! ;p

Actually i just moved to Sydney, and quite miss the foods from my home country. Suggested by my friend, and i love this restaurant, it's really craving satisfied. Love their ayam presto, iga bakar, soto, sambal woku and many more are waiting for my next visit. Quick and kind service too from the employees. Recomended
SO GOOD! This place is amazing if you like spicy food. Our go-to dishes are Grilled chicken with Balinese sauce, Fried beef steak with fresh chilli sauce, Water spanich and Mixed salad to tone down the heat haha all the chilli sauces are very spicy but I love spicy food so it's just perfect for me. We also had some prawn crackers and durian juice.
$48 for 2 people for everything
I've been a loyal customer for years and that place will never fail to make me happy. I'm an extreme spicy food lover and not a long of spicy food can satisfy me but Shalom's Fried Chicken always make me reach for the nearest water bottle. This time I ordered their Mie Abang Abang with an extra side of Shalom's chili sauce. The noodles were soft and there was plenty of mushrooms and chicken. Combined with the chili sauce and there you have me. Make sure to go not during peak hours because it gets busy and the orders take a while to arrive at your table.
We wanted to come back to Home Thai after an awesome dinner the night before, but this time we came on Sunday at around 6pm and there were a lot of people on the waiting list! Time was not on our side as we needed to rush to the airport. Shalom, which is located next to Home Thai, had no queue at that time. We were hesitant at first because we didn't like the food at Melbourne branch, but we loved the Sydney version! We ordered Nasi campur (which has lots of things) and Batagor. We'll be back to try other food.
Its not an easy feat to locate food in cbd sydney which doesn't compromise your tastebuds and your wallet. Shalom is one such candidate on the shortlist.
Expect no frills, complete self service but decent food offerings. There is a wide array of grilled chicken and duck here. We tried the chef recommended dishes. They were extremely spicy and not for the fainthearted. I felt that this was a fairly authentic experience and the group of us really enjoyed the spicy kick. Small hiccup was that the lamb satay for our entree was too dry.
For the pricetag, this is a fairly nice place to make a casual introduction to Indonesian cuisine.
Quality eat, Duran drink is fresh as u can get. Noodles cook to perfection. Grilled chicken abit to burnt but love the flavour. Same for Satay chciken.
Like it since I'm indonesian! That shalom chicken is good, and the sambal is very spicy. Try to mix that sambal with sweet soy sauce, is the best combination! And for the satay, that's remind me about my hometown
Great good for good value, everything we've tried, includes tofu, fried fish, grilled duck, chicken liver and giblets, dim sum, the durian w rice, coconut juice is bit too sweet but other than that everything were amazing. Don't mind abit of burn in your mouth, come here!
Both the sambal and the chilli fried chicken on the plate of Nasi Campur brought tears to my eyes. This dish was hot – and yes, it was marked with three chillies on the menu so I expected some level of chilli pain, but I didn’t quite expect it to be quite as hot as it was! Despite this, the dish was still a hit, and I particularly enjoyed nibbling on the little fried anchovies and peanuts on the side.
"Oxtail soup is absolutely delicious, the meat just fell off the bone. The fried chicken and rice was really good. Chilli sauce is so hot but so good. The service is very good
Very friendly and very helpful. The foods are so cheap I don't mind to pay a couple dollar for bottle of water!!

Fantastic (though really need to start serving tap water). Delicious authentic Indonesian food. Have been eating at various Shalom restaurants for the last decade. Food is usually fantastic. Its cheap and the chilli is amazing. Ayam shalom (5chilli rating) is not for novice chilli eaters (i've never eaten anything spicier in a restaurant) by my goodness is it delicious.
Pempek is great too (though it is an acquired taste, and a lot of people don't like it - but if you want to try something different its not a bad place to start).
The bottled water is a long standing sour grape of mine but I've accepted it for now (though I think it is illegal). So I just bring my own bottle of water if I know I'm going.
The gado gado was disappointing, the sauce was watery however the beancurd was fresh but where are the ketupat cubes I am use to.The spicy grilled chicken (rated 4 chillis) was delicious, the chilli paste was flavourful, leaves me wanting more! The ice selasia was not that great.
Awesome authentic traditional Indonesian. Not over the top decor or service but the food is great. Maybe not for everyone but definitely a great place if your a regular visitor to Indonesia and are looking for something to you back.
Overall the food is quite good. The sate chicken is great. Chicken cooked perfectly and the peanut sauce is really good. The gado gado isn't too bad either.
Shalom is a must visit for a flavour packed snd authentic Indonesian restaurant. Firstly the meals are all cooked fresh to order and their Chilli Sambal is divine and has the right consistency with spice and saltiness. The service was really friendly and the dining area was kept spotless. Must visit for authentic Indonesian food.
This place is really good! Good value for money. The lamb special curry is just splendid! Do visit here if you're in CBD. Their service is really great, fresh food. Thanks for their service. Couldn't click the lamb curry photo since was so busy enjoying it ,😃
Lex's takeaway dinner from @shalomindonesianrestaurant - really yummy yellow rice with fried chicken! The chicken was perfectly fried. Nice and crispy outside and tender on the inside. So good!
Shalom is definitely up there as one of the best Indonesian restaurants in Sydney. The dishes are always packed with flavour and taste as authentic as Indonesian food gets. A must try if you are in the area. Decently priced also and friendly service.
Great Indonesian food. This place is always packed full of Indonesian people so you know the food is good.
I visit regularly and always enjoy the food here. All my favourite Indonesian dishes including Longton rice cakes, Nasi Campung , chicken sate and on my latest visit had their excellent Soto Mie chicken Noodle Soup. So good. Enak sekali!
The hottest Sambal the best Nasi goreng, the nicest people .. I love this place SO much, I come here SO much, and it never dissapoints.
Indonesian food is crazy CrAzY flavoursome.
Where else do you get such rich oooomph?
Look at that depth that wealth of magic!!
Sometimes there’s so much laughter here coming from the kitchen it’s wonderful.
