Sir And Mlady Dine Out

Yum cha in the Chinatown area of Sydney is a wonderful way to enjoy lunch. The sheer variety on offer is amazing and The Eight lives up to this. We started our meal with some steamed dumplings. The prawn and garlic chive dumplings were sufficiently transparent to see the green colours through the wrapper. The same applied to the prawn dumplings too. Both had lovely light wrappers and tasty fillings. A delicate dip in the ever-present chilli sauce finished them both off perfectly.

In in 2 minds about my score. Although the food itself that was delivered actually very good and well portioned. There were a number of missing menu items that weren’t available at the time we sat down. They did try and assist and help with that but overall was a pleasant visit
The food here is great. Fresh tasty. The crab is yum and I love that that’s is traditional yum cha in the sense that it’s rushed, busy and not for the anxious or person who doesn’t like being rushed.
It’s so busy that everything is fresh which is so important.
A better yum cha overall and my favourite in sydney at the moment
Food is nice and staff are quite attentive. I enjoyed the BBQ pork buns, siu mai and prawn dumplings. More vegetarian options needed though.

It's been some time since I've been to yum cha but over the years I now know some of the ins and outs of what to do and what not to do. For example, at the Eight in Haymarket, you should get there a bit before 11am on the weekend to ensure you get a table and a head start on the trolleys. After this time, it becomes very challenging to get a table and the food is slower to get around in the trolleys. I can completely relate to some of the reviews about the slower customer service in the peak yum cha hours on the weekend.
Had a great lunch with my friends who come from overseas. This place is a perfect restaurant for chinese food lovers. It is a little bit busy at lunches, I would say you'd better make reservations.
Awesome place for yumcha. The place is really clean and gets really busy during lunch hours. The staff are really helpful and wide menu options to choose from.Tried the fried scallops, sesame prawn toast, veg spring roll, veg dimsums, veg noodles to name a few.The mango pancakes were the winner. The food was really fresh and tasty.
A nice place for yum cha where waiters come to you with trolleys laden with small share plates. This is the traditional form of yum cha and it is by far the most popular and well known variety. Service is fast but getting the dishes you want really depends on where you are seated, especially during peak times like Sunday lunch. Food is generally good, produce is fresh and the ambience is classy without being over the top.
I've come to the Eight for Yumcha twice in the last few weeks. The first time, I came here for yumcha at 1:30pm on a weekday. There was a large variety of dishes to choose from, despite being close to the end of the yumcha session. We did not have to wait long for food to come for us, which was fantastic. The staff were friendly. Our bill came to around $95 for 4 people.
My most recent visit was for lunch on a Saturday at 12:30 pm . Compared to the last time I came, there was a much longer waiting time of around 15 minutes. However, the quality of the food will keep me coming here for more! I would recommend trying this place.
Food: 9/10
Service: 8/10
Ambience: 9/10
I’ve never been in this type of place in Sydney before. I was told it’s always busy but it’s big and you can always find a table, or wait just few minutes. When it’s less busy they move the movable walls, making the room smaller.
Waitresses go around with trolleys, each one with different food and they stop to your table asking you if you want what they have on their trolley or you can skip it and choose food on the next one.
Everything I ate was pretty good, a couple of things were really good.
