Review Taphouse Sydney - Sydney

Jessica R
Incredible venue! A heritage-listed pub that has been here since 1878 - the layout is awesome, food is awesome and service is awesome. My partner and I had our Engagement Party on the rooftop bar of this venue and would highly recommend! It is just such a beautiful and unique layout. Perfect for a cocktail style event. The team at The Taphouse/Elm Rooftop bar went above and beyond. I still have people telling me today what a great day it was. This pub has 3 levels - very funky, first level is their main pub, second level an event space and top level a Rooftop Bar!! It doesn't get much better than that. Please do yourself a favour and go check out this venue :)

Came here for a dinner with friends to try out their half price November deal. We were very excited about the food as the menu looked amazing, and also the drinks given the selection of craft beer they have on tap. Unfortunately it was quite disappointing! We ordered the BBQ platters, pulled pork burger, poutine, corn ribs & fish and chips. The BBQ platter looked quite impressive on arrival but everything seemed overcooked (especially the brisket which was so dry!) and plain. Needed to douse everything in sauce to taste better. Unfortunately, the chips turned out to be the best part of the platter! The pulled pork burger which didn't seem to be on a milk bun - looked like a squashed supermarket bun and the pulled pork seemed a little old. Fish and chips were ok but nothing amazing - when asking the staff what fish it was when we were ordering all they could say was it was "battered fish". Chips with the poutine were soft and soggy so not very enjoyable. Apart from the long queues to order (which was understandable given the specials), once ordering the imperial stout was not available (despite being on the board). Another thing to add is the Rooftop bar does not have a great selection of beers and can get extremely loud. Hoping this was only because it was a busy Friday night as this place has great potential so was a shame that we had such a bad experience. *** Post 2nd visit: We revisited on a Wednesday night so the venue was not as crowded. The platter was still a little on the dry side but other items were quite tasty (we ordered a few steaks). Service and beer selection were great.

Good selection of tap beers. BBQ platter was decent. A couple of meats were on the dry side.

Drinks and atmosphere are great, unfortunately the food is letting this place down. 2 years ago we would come here for fantastic food and drinks. Brisket was inedible with what seemed like old reheated leathery meat. My advice don’t eat here but come for the drinks though.

I held my 21st birthday party at the Taphouse and it was one of the best venues I've been to. The staff were very accommodating and keen to make the night a good one. The food and drinks were awesome, and my guests had such a fantastic time. I will be recommending this venue to all of my family and friends :) Thanks again for a great night.

Best range of beers in Sydney. Cute rooftop. And the 10$ paddle on thursday is the best value.
Debbie Miner (AU)
We had a work event here on a Friday afternoon, and Luke and his team were so accommodating and great! We can't thank them enough. Our work event was themed, and we were able to use the space in the way we needed for the event and also Luke and the team were happy to get involved. The food and beverage package we arranged was also perfect for our group, and everyone had a great time. Thank you so so so much again, and would definitely recommend for any event!

Came here a few years ago for a roast and it was really good. Decided to try it out again and as the menu and roast options looked great! Completely opposite experience this time. Everything was so cold. Beef option was like eating leather. Veggie option I paid $25 for a full carrot, 6 small potatoes, a portion of broccoli and a veggie loaf. Won’t be returning.

My daughter in law booked catering here for her 40th for 40 people on the 7th December and it was a disaster.<br/><br/>The food did not start to arrive until 7 when it should have started at 5.30.  All the other drop in patrons were being served and the prices they paid were reasonable.  The prices my daughter in law paid in advance for the catering were outrageous, the promised quantities of food did not arrive and in particular the cheese board they provided at a cost of $240 was nothing more than a blatant rip off.  Had we just arrived and ordered food from the menu we would have received appropriate quantities at prices less than half of what she was charged.  All of this overshadowed the fact that the food, what there was and when it finally arrived, was very nice, except the cheese board.<br/><br/>The manager Nadina, whom we had to speak to on many times that night was uninterested and did little to help.  All these factors accumulated to provide a very unpleasant celebration evening for my daughter in law and were totally unnecessary.<br/><br/>Can not recommend for a function and despite the nice food, I'll never go back.

Ok this review will be a bit different because I went to this place just for beer! (And some chips) I know Zomato is related to the food but this is important anyway because when you have good beer even the bad food taste good! Just go to this place and grab some handcraft beers. I loved the stout!
Beef Ball
I was looking for a place to have a decent dinner prior to attending a concert at Allianz stadium. Having seen that the Zomato reviews were pretty good, I thought I would check it out for myself. <br/><br/>We had the flat iron steak, the pumpkin gnocci and chicken wings. The food itself was quite tasty and reasonable value. The chicken wings were quite good in that the coating had some crunch, but just seemed like the flavour needs some tweaking to get it perfect. <br/><br/>In regards to ambience, I loved the timber upstairs and the old books and photos, which make you feel like you are visiting someone's house rather than just a bar. However, the problem with the hard surfaces was that it was quite noisy and difficult to have a conversation. Yes it may have been my bad luck that I happened to be sitting next to a table of 10 people who were quite loud, but I still think that noise is an ongoing problem they would have. <br/><br/>Conclusion: If you are looking to avoid the notorious takeaway at Allianz stadium, I would definitely recommend this place. If it is a date night and you need quieter surroundings for your dinner conversation, I suspect that nearby Thai Nesia would be a better bet. <br/><br/>Note that I have uploaded a menu because it is different to the one which shows on Zomato at the moment.

The Local Tap House is a dreamland for beer-lovers and certainly one of Sydney's best-kept secrets. Situated at the junction of Flinders Street and South Dowling Street in Darlinghurst, the art-Deco building features a beautiful 1920s interior and a rooftop open--air garden (not during winter though!)<br/><br/>While most typical bars and hotels offer a range of common beers and cocktails, the Local Taphouse allows you to rediscover your tastebuds with an eclectic mix of crafts beer from 20 unique and rotating taps which they brewed from their backyard. What comes out from the tap were rich, gourmet beers which were absolutely mind bogging. <br/><br/>I had my Mango Ale a couple of months ago. The rich Mango flavour combines flawlessly with the thin summer ale. The attractive golden appearance and the aromatic and flavourful beer gives me an unforgettable experience. What impresses me more is a constantly changing tap list 😁

The rooftop bar is the place to be on a warm summer afternoon. Great selection of beers that are always changing. You can also book here for a small group function as needed, and they're always happy to accommodate.
The City Lane
The Local Taphouse Darlinghurst, along with its sister pub in Melbourne’s St Kilda is one Australia’s premier craft beer venues. Housed in an old hotel that spans three levels, the atmosphere of the venue is very old school pub like with lots of lacquered wood and dark furnishings.

Absolutely shocking. Our meal didn't arrive after an hour and then we were informed the kitchen had shut so we wouldn't be able to get any food. Rude service from the manager was just the cherry on top of the cake.
The Hills Have Fries
This is the official THHF stomping ground! Treat yourself to a chicken burger, you will not be disappointed! The selection of beers on tap are amazing, and you don't have to leave the sunny little rooftop garden to get one, the bar is on the roof! 5 stars in anyone's books, am i right?
Y
Wouldn't know if the food is any good. We died of hunger whilst waiting for our order to arrive. Forty five minutes and counting. For a shepard's pie and some pork ribs. Ridiculous.
Dushy De Silva
Love this place. Great vibe, fantastic ales. Menu is very good and the Sunday roast is td4. Good work guys but one small rant...if you're going to serve a Yorkshire pudding the size of an Amish barn, you really need a significant amount of gravy to match. Otherwise, the pork belly was magic.
The RnB Diary
The first time we sat at the rooftop, that was pretty cool. I saw people doing beer tasting from paddles. For comic effect, we ordered a cider called "dirty granny"! Haha...<br/><br/>The second time we sat downstairs by the front door, it was completely different vibe from upstairs. We thought about ordering some food but were discouraged by the pricey menu for a very ordinary looking menu. <br/><br/>If you are into craft beer this place may be your cup of tea. Unfortunately it's not for me.
Andrea
A three level pub on the corner of Flinders and South Dowling sits ‘The Local’. I’ve visited a couple times before purely for their massive selection of craft beers (that’s a good enough reason to visit any pub!), but this is the first time dining in. Pub grub is one of my favourite things to eat on a relaxed Sydney weekend. The Local Taphouse sits off a busy street, however there’s often parking in the back street. And with three levels – including the open air rooftop – it’s the perfect destination for a lazy afternoon.
Amys_food_adventures
Good spot for catchup with mates. I prefer the rooftop area on a sunny day as you can still get some of that vitamin D. Good range of beers on tap although sometimes they sell out at the top level so have to go down stairs to get it. Food is also ok. Their share places are good. Beware the stairs if you have had a couple of drinks!
Boris Moskalev
Amazing local spot with the food to match, always have a great selection of beer. The gnocchi was incredible tasted as if it was home made. The risotto balls completed the dish well and a side of fried chicken wings that actually resemble a reasonable serving was great. Highly recommend this venue.
Chris Mohen
Upstairs on a summer arvo is terrific- if u like crafty style beers then this is ur joint. There's a whole menu of them, including a tasting board of 6 beers which is pretty sweet. The food is also off the hook!

UPDATE:<br/><br/>This is REALLY overdue so I do apologise to the Taphouse team....<br/><br/>As you can see below the Taphouse responded to my review and contacted me.  The way they managed this complaint was exceptional, and is a perfect example of how a business can turn a pissed off customer into an advocate.  Our next experience at the Taphouse  was exceptional and I would have no hesitation in going back for a casual visit, or a group booking.  Thanks to the team for making a great afternoon with friends possible.<br/><br/>_______________________________________________________<br/><br/>Was pretty disappointed with our time here. We had a spot booked from 1:30-7:30 in an almost empty downstairs area on Friday (upstairs was packed though). The spot was for 13 people - but with just one table that seated 4 and a bunch of lounge chairs. It was also under blisteringly cold aircon which (although it was really hot outside) made some of us actually shiver. We did ask for it to be turned down and the guys were nice but nothing really changed. Even the beer blanket didnt help. <br/><br/>Our food (just some starters) took about 50 min to show up and only after we reminded them that we'd ordered (coincidentally in the exact amount of time it takes to deepfry something). Most of the food was fine. The beef in the burger was bloody awful quality- that super salty gross textured rissole meat you get for $2.99 kilo at the butchers. Chicken burger was great though! <br/><br/>At 4:30 we got told we needed to move because another party was coming (remember we're booked till 7:30) and that they'd move us to a table that had just been vacated (which we had to clear ourselves!). No big deal - the other table was not under the horrible aircon so we were happy. Then about 15min later they told us we had to move again because they had a booking at 5pm for that table (not "We've made a mistake sorry" - just "You need to move). <br/><br/>So we were told our best option was the rooftop (it's 35 degrees outside roughly). The original table we had was still empty at this stage and at 4:50 when the new party showed up they told us we had to move immediately - they didnt even have the courtesy to ask the other group to wait 10min until their booking time.<br/><br/>The staff were mostly unapologetic for the continual mistakes and when my friend tried to express (definitely no swearing or yelling- shes v polite) the bar guy got SUPER defensive and I'm pretty sure the words "I don't really care" were very close to coming out of his mouth when we repeatedly asked why our area wasn't booked till 7:30 like had been agreed.<br/><br/>Despite the pretty decent bartab we racked up it was clear that we were an afterthought to the upstairs booking.<br/><br/>The appeal of their taps is not enough to make up for their shitty service now that so many other pubs around are pouring their hearts into craft beer.
Phil Tran
Came here on a sunny mid week afternoon. Absolutely love the beer selection. So many different varieties and such friendly bartenders who help you pick the right one to satisfy your thirst. <br/>Drank and dined on the top level where we ate the tap house burger in the scorching sun. Wouldn't say it's my favourite burger but it certainly did the job. Would definitely come back for an after work beer or two or ten.
RowdyRobbieEater
Was good. <br/><br/>It's now understaffed by rather rude hipsters. <br/><br/>Asked for a Tasting Paddle, which he said he was "clearly too busy for".<br/><br/>Ordered something else, "that's out mate."<br/><br/>"Okay, what else is like it?"<br/><br/>"Mate, you can clearly see what we have."<br/><br/>I should have just had a can of VB in the park.
Andrew
Great rotating craft beer selection at a reasonable price and top notch pub food. Great burgers and the Sunday roast is particularly amazing!
Simply Starving
Food is average but everything else is worth going for! Great ambience, good service and fantastic selection of craft beer! Perfect spot for a casual drink!
Katherine Pham
Perfect spot on the rooftop. They have an extensive list of craft beers. Tried the inception - just perfect for the summer. Food was mediocre.
Oh Burger Me
She says: Full disclosure: a friend of mine’s partner is imbedded in some capacity in the Local Taphouse (I am not going to lie – really not sure what his role is and wouldn’t like to speculate. Let’s say he is the Junior Vice President)  and my friend mentioned their burgers to me previously. He and I made our usual deal where friends are involved. Which is a) we let you all know straight up that we have mates involved and b) if it sucks we eat it and don’t review it – rather than lie to you beautiful burger fans in order to save our friendship. Luckily it didn’t suck!

Went to the local taphouse for the Sunday roast after trying many disappointing Sunday roast in Sydney... This one is definitely the bomb! Highly recommended!

I came here for dinner & drinks with a group of people from work, and we all thoroughly enjoyed our evening and stayed for quite a long time. <br/><br/>The food is seriously amazing,  and quite adventurous which quite surprising for a pub! We ordered the Arancini balls countless amount of times, and also could not stop ordering the Barossa Shiraz to go along with our meals & chit chats in the late-evening. <br/><br/>What was outstanding for me was the Beer-Can Chicken ($25 only on Tuesdays, $50 on all other days) which can be shared by two people (or more!) which is chicken served unapologetically with a beer can shoved up its butt, and a knife stabbed in its chest pointing to the ceiling - I felt like I had to stare at this dish for 5 minutes before we devoured it -  the crispy chicken skin was just to die for! Luckily they had one beer-can chicken left (seems to be the popular order at the Taphouse!) So I'm very glad to have tried this, and totally recommend this dish for its taste and presentation. <br/><br/>Other yummy dishes were the Bangers and Mash (delicious), the barramundi fillet, and the steak was quite good too.<br/><br/>I definitely recommend going here - even if it's just for drinks as they have quite the extensive beer menu - and they even offer beer tastings if you are unsure. If you ARE unsure, tell the barman what your usual beer is (such as Tooheys) and they shall reply with "I'll give you something completely different" with a cheeky grin - quite the smart move, as it definitely got my boyfriend hooked to whatever he was offered, however I'm afraid his beer standard has now gone up a notch - Oh well, we'll just have to visit The Local Taphouse again soon! :)

Always love to stop by at the Darlinghurst Local Taphouse. Food is a clever, tasty variation on pub food - not cheap but one of the best in terms of quality and freshness. Great old school pub ambience, various seating options catering for couples as well as bigger groups and outdoor sitting. A little bit away from the CBD but a great launchpad for Moore Park games. Also a frequent venue for beer events. Beer: 15+ beers on taps, often selected to fit a theme and accompanied with a detailed description sheet available at the bar.
Gastronomy Gal
According to the beer swillers, their beer range is amazing. They have 20 beers on tap at any one time, and too many bottled beers to count which are both constantly changing. Even their

The best selection of beers in Sydney. Perfect venue to go for a few pre-game drinks; went here before the football Sydney derby and booked out the rooftop for a big group of us. A little over-priced, but that can nearly be forgiven considering the quality ales, food and views on offer.
WhyGo Australia
First impressions did not disappoint. You are met with a pub covered in dark wood and an eclectic mix of flair, such as lights inside bird cages, giant wood tables and old fashioned couches. There are 3 levels to explore, but don’t worry, each has the exact same bar setup with the 20 tap beers to choose from. If you’re just after drinks, then the main floor is the way to go, but dining can occur on both the middle level and the new rooftop area.
Paleo Foodies
The Local is one of my favourite pubs to go to for lunch, dinner and a few gluten-free ales! Self described as ‘a European inspired tavern’ they have an excellent range of beers and apple ciders including some ciders on tap. They also serve a damn good pork belly, on par with the pork belly served at Four in Hand (I will write a post after the next time I go there).

Alas, it is uni season yet again and so 'da boyz' ( Patty) decide to bury our sorrows at The Local Taphouse (122 Flinders Street, Darlinghurst) for a casual night out. With a bigger brother also located in St Kilda, I was keenly anticipating the visit.  The 'menu' looked so irresistible online and the only thing stopping me taking a bite out of the monitor was the fact that it would probably break my teeth. Little did I know that the Sydney Taphouse had an entirely different menu. Compare this one at St Kilda's (menu) and then this one in Darlinghurst (menu) , it barely seems fair! (Jacky actually called the place to see if they served the smoked ale  beef burger to which the person on the phone replied 'yes we do', they lied!!!). I was visibly upset when we eventually walked into The Local Taphouse, and into our demise.  It Takes Beer to Make Thirst Worthwhile Rooftop Cinema   Tuesday coincided with The Local Taphouse screening a silent cinema up top with a $10 admission fee. Permanently Out To Lunch
The sheer height of the burger at The Local Taphouse is worth the price of admission alone. It truly is a monster and much debate will be had about the best way to consume it. Do you man-up and go for a two-handed vulture while nonchalantly discussing the weekend footy? Or are you more “proper”, opting to cut it in half before launching into a diatribe of the market activity of the day? Then there are the deconstructors amongst us, elaborately picking apart each layer while waxing lyrical with philosophical musings. The options appear endless but one thing is for sure, you will consume this monster!

The Local Taphouse, or 'The Local' is a haven for beer enthusiasts, lovers and drinkers alike, and of course those looking to have a meal between drinks. With more than 100 beers available you won't find it hard to find tasty ale to quench your thirsty, or a meal to eliminate those hunger pains. The bar menu is full of flavoursome snacks like buffalo wings with creamy blue cheese sauce, spiced apple baked pork crackling and sliders. For those wanting something more substantial there are classics like chicken schniztel, a bacon and beef burger or keeping in the beer theme there is a ridiculously good apple cider braised pork belly cooked for 8 hours and served with sauerkraut and roasted apples.... mmmmm......
Sir And Mlady Dine Out
It turned out to be a great choice as the food was great and we saw Sydney band Bright Young Things play two sets - good fun with the entire place alive! The pizza looked good on paper - and on the plate.

One of a few beacons of light in the otherwise disappointing Sydney offering (yes, the small bars are amazing, but they're just not pubs) is the Local Taphouse on Flinders Street in Darlinghurst.
JB Jose
For our main, we shared the massive 600g 8hr Roasted Pork Shoulder with Dark Knight Porter and fennel seed jus, roast beetroot and caramelised fennel. You could pull the pork apart with hardly any force using tongs; the juicy meat just fell apart. The jus had a strong fennel seed and beetroot flavour and was perfect for the tender white meat.
Esther
The onion rings really make this burger. Great spot too. More than your average pub burger here.
Simon Leong
The new roof top seating is a nice spot to soak up the rays on a nice day. A Tasting paddle ($15, 5 x 90 ml) makes an ideal choice for those wanting to sample a few beers before committing to the one they like the best.
Simon Leong
When confronted with too many choices I'm often wanting to try a bit of everything on a menu so a beer tasting paddle is a great way to try a selection of beers on offer at The Local Taphouse. I was thinking of just choosing the five most expensive beers
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
You’d be forgiven for thinking you’d struck craft beer nirvana at this sensitively renovated Darlo pub (the old Palace Hotel). There’s a whopping twenty-one lagers, ales and ciders on tap, with one hand-pump, plus tasting notes with prices! If that’s all too much, the (handsome) barman will triangulate a beer according to your taste descriptors – mine was a fruity Coopers Extra Strong Vintage Ale ($7.00/310ml)
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
Beer aficionados of Sydney need no introduction to this place, but for learners like myself it was a crash course in my search for enlightenment. Owner Guy Greenstone assured me that beer “is down to earth and doesn’t take itself too seriously.”

After a rustic, fortifying meal at Betty's Soup Kitchen and an immense trek, four of us made it to the Local Taphouse in Darlinghurst. The first Local Taphouse opened in Melbourne, in St Kilda, and since December last year, I've been attending beer sessio

There were a couple of fundamental flaws with this burger. Well, aside from the fact that I like a burger that I can actually get my mouth around, but that was resolved with a quick removal of the onion rings. See? Normal looking burger:

Great Fried Chicken. Went there for the burgers, however they ran out of it, so we ordered the pies which were on specials - the pies were enormous, it wasn't spectacular, but for $10 and that size, I wouldn't complaint. <br/><br/>Ordered the fried chicken along side with the pies (of course), and it was amazing, one downside would be that they could be more generous with the sauce on the wings. Personally would prefer it on the side and of course... more!

Great Food!. Came in with a friend and had the mussels entre with the brisket to share. Absolutely terrific meal! Would totally recommend.

My review is similar to a few others I have read. Great place, good beers, poor food. Worst steak I've had in ages and $30 in any pub is steep. Ordered medium rare and the outer was well done, and came only with a log of hard, undercooked and flavourless potato. Disappointing.
Sam
YUM! I was in dire need of .... YUM!<br/>I was in dire need of a Sunday Roast and The Local Taphouse did not disappoint! $25 for a huge plate (i'm pretty sure I don't actually need to eat for a week) and I am very happy.
Jamie Crick
Great beer, but measly, overpriced food. Still a good pub for beer lovers, but now that we're not as spoilt for choice in the craft beer scene, there's less and less to recommend it over other options.<br/><br/>Certainly the beer selection is good, but the food is really average and incredibly stingily portioned. I'm not a particularly big eater, so when I feel the need to order a side of chips to go with my $24 thimble of hotpot, there's a problem.
Djburnie08mac
The roof top bar is the place to be!. The Local Taphouse’s roof top bar is the place to be! Staff are friendly and knowledgeable and there is a great selection of local and imported craft beers. Staff recommended beers to match our meals, which arrived at the table within 10 minutes. I ordered the Beef Burger, awesome flavor combinations and I was able to eat it with my hands without it going everywhere and making a huge mess. Great atmosphere, the venue has a tone of character, I’d highly recommend the Local Taphouse.
Drew
More of a beer oasis than a gastropub. The rooftop area is an oasis in the heat, and the selection of beers is always awesome. And while the food was well received by our group, it was simply overpriced.
Jennifer Seah
Charming rooftop area, beers for everyone. Came here for a birthday of 10. We were originally seated downstairs, and but then moved to the rooftop around 7.30pm. If you can definitely get upstairs for the charming rooftop area. Downstairs was extremely loud and had a very pubby vibe (not necessarily a bad thing) but rooftop just had it all. Service we found was great, especially from one man in particular, who was extremely accommodating. Food was delicious, the chicken wings, and the scotch fillet is highly recommended but what stood out was the slow roasted lamb shoulder for two! Nice place, nice vibe, and a great choice of beers
S
Beer selection is second to none, awesome pub. Food is worth the visit too.
Nlcaldwell5
Best. Steak.. I had the rump steak with chips and jus - It was truly delicious and a bargain at $24!
Best Small Bars
Surly service, overpriced food, just go somewhere else. There is a lot you want to like about this pub but at every visit there is always some issue with the customer service or making customers feel unwelcome. For starters the music is always too loud so it's impossible to have a conversation downstairs - even when empty. The food service is appalling and expensive. When asked what sauce came with the pasta as it wasn't listed on the menu, the bartender replied 'Your question is redundant as we have sold out of it.' On another previous visit to the rooftop, the waitress gave away the entree to another table without explanation. So an hour after ordering with no entrée yet, the steak arrived which was just that - steak. Nearly $30 for a not-so-large steak on a breadboard (with no bread). Had it been rounded out to a proper meal with salad and chips from the menu, there would have been little change from $50. Finally the entree came a couple of minutes later at around 9:30pm. The moment the waitress put it down, the security guard came up and said we have to move downstairs immediately as they were closing the rooftop at 10. He was adamant we had to move that minute. After explaining the situation of taking an hour to get the food, the fact it just arrived and there was no way a steak on a breadboard, another breadboard for the entree, a beer and cutlery would make it down the stairs, he just angrily said that we could go downstairs now or leave. Apparently asking for 10 minutes to finish one of the dishes was too much - with the 10 minutes it still wouldn't have been close to 9:45 let alone the 10pm close time. And to cap it off the manager was anything but understanding. He seemed more in a mood to argue than listen. If you want to have a good evening, go somewhere else nearby, there are plenty of places in Surry Hills where you will feel welcomed. <br/><br/>And to the owners at Local Taphouse, seriously look at these issues. These can't be dismissed as 'a once off'. A big problem is the consistent lack of focus on customer service and adversarial role that some staff, including management, take with patrons. The venue has a lot going for it, but there must be something wrong when on a typical Saturday night the Taphouse is not exactly overflowing with people, whereas pubs and bars nearby are full - many having lines of customers waiting to get in.
Isaac2475
Great gastro pub food. Started with the chicken wings, best I've had since returning from America. Juicy, succulent and the right amount of seasoning. But the duck was the best part. Feeds two people, whole roast duck with confit duck legs is something you would find in a French fine dining restaurant. One of the best meals I've had in Sydney...definitely a must visit.
Amber
Dinner for 30, The Louvre Room. I organised a dinner there for 30 people only 2 days before the actual function, as the venue that I had previously booked notified me they had double booked. The Manager there, Yane, could not have been more helpful, going above and beyond expectations. He tried all he could to accommodate our menu change request and when he couldn't, he threw in some free cheese platters. We had the dinner in The Louvre Room which was fab. To have windows on both sides is lovely. Around 8 of the 30 guests said that the slow-cooked lamb shoulder was the best they had ever had. It is wonderful to go to a bar/restaurant with the ambience of The Local. It's warm, welcoming and interesting, with a great eclectic vibe. The rooftop terrace is really cool too.
Chloe
Good food, awesome selection of beers. Not as good as the melbourne one ;)
Nesmar
Great beer, friendly staff, but a little out of the way. I will however return because of the beer and the staff that helped us choose the right beers. Its worth the walk over.
Jesse
Mushroom burger. Had a really awesome burger here.. Lots of tasty beers available. It's worth a visit if that's your thing.
Sonjaita
Rough Roast. Very disappointed. Our party of 4 ordered the Sunday Roast. The lamb was tough, the vegies hard and the meals cold. The only thing that saved the day was the Sticky Date Pudding, BEST I've tasted.

Every so often Sydney produces something awesome, and The Local is one such establishment. Beers aren't cheap, but the selection is fantastic. And the burgers are some of the best around. I loved the beef and my wife said the pork version was out of this world.

So, I recently took a friend to the local taphouse. We'd heard good things...great beer, cheap food, good atmosphere. However, only one of those things turned out to be correct and at 13.50 a pint, I'd hope to god it was great beer. Turned out it was. The food, however, was a disaster. $15 rump steak with a pint was a bargain as our last round was nearly twice as much. Probably the worst cheap steak I've had in Sydney where a similar deal is present in most pubs. Tough, cooked far beyond my medium rare request, rocket and sun- dried tomato salad?! 1992 rang and asked for their salad back! I don't know if you've tried eating 8 sun dried tomatoes but , let me tell you it's a tough ask. The burger wasn't much better, tired, dry and twice as much bread as meat. I'll save my hundred dollars and go elsewhere next time.
Pipity
Enjoyed the experience until we were asked to move halfway through our meal to make way for patrons from a private function. The staff member continued to ask us to move but eventually gave up. Not good hospitality! Have just been asked again! Ruuuuude!

Great beer range. A great range of boutique beers here but not trendy which makes it great. They had live music. Good place for a couple of beers.

Simon Food Favourites review. Tried the Spicy Chipotle Roast Chicken Wings with blue cheese dipping sauce ($12). A generous serve although wished it had a more crispy skin finish and wasn't particularly spicy. The blue cheese sauce was quite nice. A friends Smoked Ale Beef burger ($18) looked pretty good and very generous in size. The Pilsner battered onion rings were huge. I tried one and was very juicy but had a fair amount of batter on it.

Very Dissapointed. We visited The Local Taphouse for lunch on a Sunday, they were fairly busy but not packed and we were still able to get a seat in the roof courtyard. We ordered a burger and a frittata and two drinks. First sign of trouble came when I had to change my drink order 3 times, first they had no pear cider option, OK fair enough, then they had run out of diet coke and so finally I settled on a lemon lime and bitters. I didn't really mind and was enjoying the sun and my drink.<br/><br/>Things went downhill from here, after 50 minutes waiting we had received no food, I went up to the bar to ask what was going on. Just as I reached the front of the queue the manager came over with our food so I went back to our table and sat down to eat. The manager acknowledged that the food had taken a long time and offered us free drinks which we accepted and he went off (we assumed) to get for us. We started eating and were very disappointed to find that the burger was stone cold in the middle, so not only did our food take forever to get to us they hadn't even bothered to check it was still edible and had just served it to us cold. At this point we were starving and defeated so we ate the food anyway. We finished our meals, still no sign of our free drinks. We sat for about 10 minutes after we finished, the same manager walked past about ten times and even looked at our table in this time but still didn't come good on his offer. We didn't bother to try and call the manager over because he was back and forth like a whirlwind and we were so over it at this point.<br/><br/>On our way out in the quieter downstairs area we requested to speak to a manager. We were basically told to go find one ourselves if we wanted to talk to one 'look for people not in black' he said, thanks thats really helpful and really excellent customer service when people are already upset with the service. <br/><br/>We left, we won't be going back despite the fact we live around the corner. Very disappointing considering, even though it was cold, the food was nice.

So so disappointing. This was positively the most disappointing dining experience I've had in a long time. Service was brutal, food was slow to arrive (an hr) and when it did it was freezing. Staff were incompetent and when we mentioned we were not happy we were told "well you'll know not to come here the next time then". Three of the five tables in the restaurant wee given discounts due to complaints. On the other hand beer no 17 is amazing.

Great selection of beers and good, reasonably-priced food. Definitely recommend!

Steak with peppercorn sauce and onion rings. The accompanying rocket salad with parmesan and sundried tomatoes is delish

I went here on Saturday night with 7 of my girlfriends and was sooo impressed. The food was amazing, leaving us to have to order more than we initially thought we'd eat. The service was also great and very friendly. I can't wait to go back!
