Generally satisfies what you would expect for Japanese food. Tempura was fried really well. Sushi was fair (it might have been better if I ordered the fish sushi). It was quite a good deal as they both come as a set.

went for the first time recently and can say that I have found my new but all time favourite place for sushi! can’t believe how affordable the sashimi was, please do yourself a favour and check it out!

This place is around the corner from me and I only heard about it after seeing it in the “cheap eats” list, where they are renowned for their generous portions & tasty food. The boyfriend & I were super hungry and so we ordered the sashimi main, tempura main, chicken teriyaki main and the soft shell crab special. All of it was SO delicious and the portions were great! We spent about $35 per head and we could barely walk out as we were so full. We will definitely be back to try the udon noodles! Oh and this place is BYOW. All was yummo!

Food: sushi suma have been open in a small shop of Surry Hills and make sure you always make a booking before you go as the place are always packed with people. Food portion is huge and quality is good. You could always order one to share with your friends. Takeaway is not as generous portion as eat in.

Service: not for fussy people. Good but average

Price: very good for portion

Super affordable! They also split the sashimi platter we ordered in half so it’s split evenly between me and my friend. The salads are MASSIVE and pretty cheap! They also give complimentary agedashi tofu!

favourite lunch place, service has always been lovely and attentive, good value for money. comment below by Leo saying sushi had a slap of wasabi is presumptuous, traditional sushi in japan has always had a slap of wasabi and by no means it means the sushi is not fresh. dont think he's been to proper sushi places before to judge.

for 17 $ lunch menu you can get a sushi plate along with a main(beef/chicken/udon/tempura) a miso soup rice ,salad and a fried tofu. Service is awesome you will feel welcomed. Been there a few times and was never disappointed , one of the gems in Surry Hills. Taste is not mindblowing but its simple and appealing like your moms cooking. Awesome place who have an idea of what they are doing. Would have rated higher if I was a little older. Kate winslet of the restaurant scene.

I wanted to take my Mum out somewhere special for lunch and I’d heard great things about the food served at Sushi Suma. After a 15 minute walk from Central station, we arrived at the unassuming shop front and were seated immediately. It took a while for us to get our menu, and another long while to order (20 mins in total) but once we did, the food came out very quickly.

Consistently good value food and fast friendly service. Entertaining people watching the other diners too!
I have been eating here 1-2 times per year for over 10 years and it's always a cheap but tasty dinner!

Everything is coming in huge portion!! Valuable for your money. Taste is good but for Unajyu (Grilled Eel rice) is too fishy smell. But the rest are ok.

Friendly service. Good quality food although priced a bit higher than the Japanese we go normally. The sushi and sashimi combo was $28.80. The other dinner combo was $26.50 sushi with fish katsu combo which didn't have rice or miso soup that people normally would expect.

Sushi Suma seems to be a popular place for lunch with its set menus. The photos of the old menu is confusing because indeed the place has no more sushi "train". For the dinner option the sushi set seemed like a good choice. However the prawn roll was not that tasty in comparison to some other sushi we've had in Surry Hills. The price is also medium to high for a place like this. Overall good quality but better sushi to be had around this area.

just reopening after covid. we went soooo many times when we lived in Surrey Hills. Will be great for it to be busy again. Dishes were good and am sure they will get back to their previous 'jam packed' standard.

Decent food for its portion and price though there are better options across the bridge. Whoever asks for vegetarian option at this traditional Japanese restaurant, got rejected and couldn’t get over it is a typical inner city entitled moron who thinks they are better than everyone else. Can they even afford property on their own in this particular area? I don’t think so.

Excellent fresh Sushi, Sashimi along with tasty Chicken Teriyaki and amazing California Rolls. Incredible value with hearty portion sizes and friendly service. Can be crowded and busy so book or go outside peak times.

Reasonably priced and good food here! Little tip, if the waitress says a dish is for 2 people to share, trust him/her. We made a mistake in ordering too much but very happy with the consequences. Also they have great service, would come back again.
