I love this sports bar, such a great after work venue in the CBD.
Plenty of menu options with a great steak and good wine menu.
Very cool and friendly staff. I recommend their chicken katsu burger.
The Flynn is a hidden gem, it’s a nice bistro that serves great food, especially the duck pie and them chicken wings! Pairs so well with happy hour drinks.
Very popular place right in the city!
1. Mozzarella 3.5/5
Normal standard
2. Pepperoni 🍕 4/5
Highly recommended pepperoni pizza! I personally love spicy food 🌶
3. Duck 5/5
Somehow taste like Peking duck flavour, which is perfectly matched with the pizza! Fresh spring onion and coriander make the pizza even better.
It’s a bar Restuarant, noisy but within control. Quite noisy at outside seatings but actually quite cozy in the bottom.
Ambience 4/5
The Flynn had great food and great service!
I booked a table for 3 on a Friday night through Dimmi and I was impressed at the service and food. For entrees, we ordered grilled baby octopus, and karaage chicken. For mains, I ordered a Steak, my partner ordered a burger and my friend ordered risotto. We all thought the meals were definitely substantial and worth the $$$ spent.
Only downer was that the ambience is a bit louder at this venue, but that was expected on a Friday night. I will be back!
The Flynn is a nice place for after work drinks and dinner and has improved noticeably compared to the last visit (about a year ago).
Our entree was garlic bread which was buttery and obviously garlicky - a great start.
Main consisted of lamb shoulder, chips and seasonal greens. The lamb was very tender and fell apart easily as we carved. The side of gravy added some nice depth of flavour to the dish.
I really enjoyed the chips - they were light yet had a nice crunch that I love to see in my chips.
Seasonal greens were as you'd expect from vegetables. A nice addition but nothing stand-out.
Our dessert was a salted caramel chocolate tart with biscuit crumb, caramel popcorn pieces and popcorn ice cream. Such a fantastic end it had great texture from the crumb and popcorn and was overall a well constructed tart.
Pushing pass the Friday night drinkers we found a cosy dinning area inside that is quite excluded from the crazy outside. We ordered from both the traditional menu and the burger menu. The truffle burger with deep fried mushrooms was definitely unforgettable but the pork belly comes out another step on top for me. Delicious crispy skin with soft tender meat and a splash of source on top. Ummmmm. Hungry just thinkin about it!
Lunch time - nice casual vibe, lots of suits (minus ties and much more relaxed) with races, sports on screens, with good music that doesn't make you shout when you talk. Wednesday $13 lunch special is a great deal. Chicken schnitzel, salad and chips. Chicken was plump, golden, and oh so fabulously juicy. Very tasty. One thing I could note to improve is the $2 to add standard gravy - not a big issue except a small ramekin with about 4-5 tbsp - but credit where it's due, gravy was very nice. It just wasn't quite enough for the size of the meal - which could just be my personal pref on condiments! Otherwise, very nice.
Restaurants within bars have long blown away the stigma of 'pub grub' and have evolved with the changing demands of its consumers. Having found a niche market in its younger, white collar patrons, it was only a matter of time that the foods provided must also be social media worthy to stay in the game.
The Flynn is no exception to this rule, with a designated dining area segregated from the front bar, the hustle and bustle is left behind once you are seated by a table. Dark earthy tones and dim lighting adds to the relaxed vibe and angled seating allows for privacy between tables.
Menu is easy to navigate and is quite strategic as there are plenty of bar-friendly snacks and share plates. We decided on the crispy soft shell crab and slow cooked pork belly baos as starters, along with prawn pappardelle and short ribs for mains. Side of beer battered fries was compensated with a serving of the super salad.
Baos were a little difficult to eat as the base of the bun became slightly soggy from the oils and sauces used. The ratio of sauce to meat was also imbalanced as I could barely taste the crab and pork over the sweet chilli flavourings. Not bad baos, but not the best I've had.
Prawn pappardelle was al-dente with generous servings of prawns that were not overcooked. The sauce itself offered a spicy punch and was overall a successful dish. Short ribs arrived singular, but had brilliant caramelisation on the meat. Sadly it was under seasoned and slightly bland. Spoonful of jus and grilled baby veg did not aid in this endeavour.
Then came the Super Salad. With promises of poached chicken, kale, quinoa and a hazelnut dressing, I was very disappointed when my first mouthful tasted flat and lifeless. There was no seasoning at all in this dish and I truly wonder whether the chicken was poached in plain water as it was without any flavour or fragrance. I suppose for those that were super conscious of their sodium intake, this would tick all the boxes. But as far as I was concerned, it was a tasteless bowl of wilted kale with gritty quinoa and cheated poultry.
Beer battered fries (more handcut chips size) were nice and crunchy but a little heavy with the accompanying aioli. Perfect bar snack with ketchup though. I was able to get a taste of The Flynn through the March 50% off deal. Total for the night amounted to $25pp which is great value for money. Would I be equally satisfied had the meal been $50pp? Probably not. There were certainly a few hits and misses, but seasoning really let the food down in terms of flavour. Service was attentive and friendly and one thing that could not be faulted.
Excellent service and delicious food. A short walk from martin pl station, used a groupon voucher for a brunch deal. Chose truffle bruschetta and when it came out - wow moment. Poached eggs on toasted bruschetta with crisp prosciutto. Egg yolks still runny and the prosciutto was very crunchy. Would recommend coming here. (I was stopped to pay extra for the coffee although it was clearly part of the deal after i finished my meal)
Great stop off spot in the cbd for a few drinks. A nicely done interior and makes for a pleasant after work drinking environment! Would recommend.
Great venue. Food & drinks always up to high standards and excellent customer service, they couldn’t do more for you.
Would highly recommend if your in the city
Had the best lunch here, the food is always amazing everytime I go there - I love the staff they’re always so friendly and helpful! Can’t wait to come back
This has gotta be one of Sydney’s best kept secrets for a meal and a solid contender for best pub grub in Sydney. The lamb cutlets are probably the tastiest I’ve eaten EVER!! - (homemade croquettes, mint pea relish, chickpea mayo and crunchy sweet potato crisps.... sooooooo much yum!!) Hat quality cuisine for RSL prices! Home made dumplings, salmon bowl... also amazing!!
Great atmosphere for wine or beer, and friendly staff who are always up for a laugh and will make you feel like you’re on holidays in Venice!
Can’t rate highly enough. Perfection!!
Amazing venue in the city for lunch and after work drinks, the staff always go above and beyond. Looking forward to visiting the Flynn again!
Absolutely beautiful food and service, always a good vibe midweek!
Fairly standard Sydney bar with decent happy hour between 5pm - 7pm daily ($5 Heineken and Super dry and house wine).. nothing really makes this place stand out from anywhere else in the CBD except that it's probably more easy going and cheaper vs Palmer and Co. Also there's heaps of seating inside and out so if you're in a large group it's worth checking out..
The most vibrant place in town! Apart from a chatty customer crowd and lovely staff they also have delicious food. Get the dumplings as a starter and the steak as main. Yummy.
I went there on a Friday for lunch which happened to be one of the greatest weekend kick off's I have had in a long time. I highly recommend this buzzing place ;)
Really awesome place food is great and the staff they are really welcoming and they treat customers as a guest of theirs house and more than than that best place for the office workers to grab drink after work and food at break!
