Very nice ambiance, cute setting and theme. Warm and welcoming. It was busy when I went, but staff were still lovely despite the stress. The best strawberry shortbread and pistachio cake. Coffee was average, but loved their promotion of reusable coffee cups. Taking more friends to this place in the future.

These tasty bread-like, pastry-like spiral treats are certainly popular across Sydney. They do a roaring trade, especially at night when the munchies hit. These are Hungarian in origin, but for us they're reminiscent of the trdelniks we had in Prague. In reality they are extremely similar so it's understandable.
Lovely cafe (I've so far visited two locations and the food, drinks and environment were similar). It's nice to have a couple desserts to taste so you have an idea what you'll be getting. The coffee and tea are good, the vibe inside is sweet, and I highly recommend the sour cherry and poppy seed cake, tasty and not too sweet.
These are actually pretty good! The almonds was probably my least favourite as they were a bit dry! Caramelised nuts and Nutella were my favourite. Pistachios was ok! Definitely worth a try! Its best when they are fresh! And they are very addictive! Reasonably priced! The place also offers a good drink menu and other food specials!
Love the cakes from this small chain store with 4 outlets scattered throughout Sydney. This one is close by Kings Cross Station. A few table and chairs outside, the majority of the seating is indoors. Apart from the cakes they have the kurtosh (chimney cake) as well as hot and cold beverages on offer. I do enjoy the pay by weight concept as you can decide how much to indulge in without the obligation of a set size. The only problem may be you might indulge too much.
The service here was very friendly. I got a few pieces of cake to takeaway including Hazelnut Truffle Slab, Strawberry Pistachio Sponge, and Espresso Butter Almond Chocolate Roulade. The hazelnut slab and espresso butter roulade are my favourites. Love the flavours and textures in both. I decided to give the sponge a try. It was nice but not as good as the first two. I also had time for a coffee so got a Mocha to have in. It was well made and nice coffee art on top. Enjoyed my brew!
Love this place! Love the concept of how they serve their cakes by the gram so you can try a bit of everything! They have a massive range of cakes
I really loved kurtosh! Such a different dessert to have after dinner, and so so delicious. The bread dessert itself is quite substantial, so I always have enough to pack home. There's a great selection of baked treats on display as well, and plenty of gluten free and vegan options too. Coffee here is very good too! Service is friendly but can take some time. Kurtosh is definitely one of my favourite places to grab dessert to go for my family at home :)
Heard of these chimney bread from a friend! Kurtosh was on my to-do list for my brief work stint in Sydney!
What can I say! Lovely soft bread! I got the pistachio and almond ones, both delish! They were sweet, but lovely with a cup of coffee!
Can't wait to go back again and try a few more goodies from here!
Kurtosh is a definite winner. I myself not being a massive sweet tooth can appreciate the effort and craftsmanship that goes into these desserts. Pictured below: baked raspberry cheesecake, caramel slab(?) and a white chocolate roulade (all $10). Out of the selection, I enjoyed the cheesecake the most, it had a great texture and a light raspberry flavour that balanced well with the flavour of cheese. The variety here is outstanding and priced reasonably. You can really find something for every occassion whether that be for a quick pick-me-up or celebrating a special occasion.
Is just sensational. I can’t come to this place to often. Is so easy to get fat. Is great for sitting for desert or afternoon tea arvo. Impossible to get bored. All sort of things to choose. Is not really that pricey. But yes around Darlinghurst road and all that area. Nothing beats this place. Yummy pastry big tummy. As an alternative point of reference is a great place to cheer u up. No sad faces after eating here, perhaps regrets yes. Mirror regret next morning
Loved this bakery. I ordered the spinach puff pastry and it was delish! Crispy pastry and soft on the inside! Their coffee as good too! Also liked the ambiance of the place, wasn't too busy or crowded, just right to relax and enjoy the snack. Will drop by again next time and I shall try the chimney roll :)
The best chimney roll in Sydney! I have tried the cinnamom, pistachio, and also nutella. The best one for me is the nutella one! Another favorite from Kurtosh is the cheesecake brownies💕
This shop is located 5 blocks from my work and I am addicted to cakes so I couldn’t try this shop. And I did it several times already. I really like the concept, which is that you pay by weight. So you can order small pieces of a lot of cakes to try them. I will say that it is quite expensive at the end are their cakes are quite dense so quite heavy but they are tasty they worth it. What I like there too is that the always have some plates with samples of there cakes which help me to choose as I am so an undecided person.
I have tried almost all their chocolate cakes, with peanut butter, with caramel and I love them, they are pretty rich and not too spongy which is something I like. And their fruits cakes are also very tasty and not too sweet.
I gave a try to their peanut butter cookies, which are just so filling and so dense, but I love them so much!
I even tried their special for Valentine day, which was a soft cinnamon and mascarpone mousse with a bit of rose flavour and fresh strawberries. Just perfect for this kind of day ! Light and romantic !
And their speciality is the Kurtosh kind of crispy brioche, that they make directly in front of you when you order it ( so you will have to wait 20 min to get your cake , but I could wait all day to get one ;) ) The original is rolled into cinnamon sugar which is very good and you have different possibilities of toppings like hazelnut, pistachio and nutella , which for me are not necessary and do not add an extra taste to the cake. It is a really charming place to enjoy an afternoon tea or coffee with good cakes.
They have good dessert here and good coffee( i think it's depend which barista bc sometimes i got very bitter one). Good service and also the cafe have nice ambient.
Have been to this Kurtosh a few times & also visited Crows Nest & Surry Hills, normally I'm quite happy with their products & service, but it's a bit of a miss this time. Came with couple of friends for coffee & cake, I also ordered a caramelised hazelnut Kurtosh to takeaway. They told me it would be a 15-20mins wait & they'll bring it out . So we enjoyed our coffee & cakes, but the Kurtosh never came. Turned out they have completely forgot, so we waited for another 20mins. It really wasn't worth waiting for, I couldn't really taste any hazelnut flavours, just big chunks of granulated sugar. At least the cake & coffee was good.
Great pastries, especially the kurtosh, and excellent coffee. Service was so shambolic it was almost entertaining. I'll be back to try some more of those tempting cakes.
Really love the kurtosh here. If you love sweet pretzels, you'll love the kurtosh. They also have a great variety of cakes. You determine the size of the cake and priced according to the weight.
What else can I say except I really love this bakery/cafe!?
Following the advice of fellow foodies I stuck to the cakes (of which there are many, many varieties…maybe 20…and all in interesting and creative flavour combinations). The HUGE positive is that you pay by weight and they let you have as small a slice of each cake as you want. So you can try as many flavours as you dare and not feel guilty about it!!
My favourite was the poppy seed (which was also the favourite of the lady I asked for a recommendation) – it had a curious texture which I decided I rather liked, and was buttery and had a crumble-style finish…yum. Hazelnut chocolate was also delicious. To go with the cake I ordered a chai tea (I rarely do this since I am addicted to coffee)… but this one was great - not sweet and made with real leaves. You can taste a marked difference – so much better than the crappy powder! Definitely coming back.
As experienced before, the cake was the winner here. I recommend trying the cakes here over anything, and the fact that you can choose how big or small you want your piece to be and pay by weight, will always be a huge plus. Apart from that, some other items are very rich and heavy so for non sweet-tooths it may be difficult to finish.
I personally don't like Kurtosh's, I find them quite bitter tasting which isn't great. They're quite sugary though which makes it sort of tasty I guess. Good late night dessert place that lets you see the staff making the Kurtosh on the spot.
A nice little cafe in Darlinghurst. I've been to this in Randwick before and I liked it there too. They sell the signature kurtosh sweet like a pastry with different flavours. They sell heaps of different cakes and the good thing about it is that you can select whatever size you like. I try to be healthy; so just got a small strawberry cake piece. The sponge is very fresh with cream, strawberry and some pistachios on top. Very tasty. I also got a savoury pastry; cheese and mushroom which had a nice filling. I got a coffee too. I'm a big fan of chai lattes and ordered one. Be careful though - this is more the tea infused style, rather than the sweet powdered one (depends what you personally like). Service was quick as it wasn't too busy.
Lovely place of solace on a weekday morning. The waitress recommended the duo mousse cake for me, and it did not disappoint. A great place to chill out during a busy day and have a cuppa coffee with great cake. Waitstaff were very friendly and took the initiative to ask me if I wanted water (one of the first cafes where the waitstaff offered me water instead of me asking first).
The Kurtosh here are not amazing, and not worth the $7.50. To be honest their cakes are much better, and I would think about coming back just for the cakes. However, service was nice and the cafe has a nice ambience.

The service was promt, staff were exceptional and the food speaks for itself. I had an absolutely pleasant experience here where I was met with staff that cared about their food and customer service. I had the chance to sample some of the baked cheesecake, cookies and cream cheesecake aswell as a savory pastry which was divine. Well balanced flavours and I love that you can mix up the order.
It has become our custom to come here or other Kurtosh shop for dessert after having dinner somewhere else. This time, we had dinner in Balmain and we didn't see anything attractive on dessert menu so decided to drive to Kurtosh to have our favorite dessert. This time we tried Hazelnut Kurtosh to share. For takeaway we picked our all time favorite which are orange & olive oil cake, strawberry sponge and rasburry cheesecake. All good, as always.
Kurtosh is named after Kurtoskalacs, which is a traditional Hungarian pastry that is also known as a chimney cake and sold as a popular street food in Hungary. Setting eyes upon the place, it stood out from the surrounding restaurants and cafes with its pastel blue paint job and wooden sign that hung above the sidewalk. It’s a really quaint and sweet place with its rustic feel and the smell of cinnamon sugar floating around. We’re warmly welcomed and for newcomers, the staff politely explained their specialty and didn’t rush us with our orders.
Caramelize your tastebuds with freshly baked and aromatic candied hazelnut kurtosh to satisfy that sweet indulgence in an extremely cosy coffee shop. As one of the top dessert and coffee locations, Kurtosh is definitely ideal for a winter’s evening as you become drawn to the warm fragrance of their freshly made pastries.
Great customer service and the most delicious cakes and kurtosh are found here. I personally love the Nutella kurtosh .. Eating it hot and fresh ! They serve Mecca coffee and the atmosphere is very industrial and relaxing.
A reliable and spacious cafe that is open late. Great selection of reasonably priced cakes, and I love being able to pay by weight. Of the regular varieties, my favourite is the orange and olive oil cake. If you are coming with a friend or two, consider getting one of the signature kurtosh rolls - they are made fresh for you and are absolutely delicious when warm. The coffee here is also pretty good.
I think the cheesecake and the flourless chocolate cake are the best I have had in Sydney. There is nothing more thrilled than to have something sweet and tasty after a long day work.
If too much choice hampers your decision on what to order you cannot go wrong with a big slab of blondie with a coffee. Mmmmmm
Great to have a late night cake shop to contrast Messina. Best part is the samples, you can stuff your cake hole while you decide on what to take home. My tip is to order sparingly because the slabs are actually very thick. Staff are very friendly.

I really like this cafe! I have been trying all of the Darlinghurst/kings cross cafés during my 3 months in Sydney, and this one is in my top 10. Friendly, cheerful staff who let me eat samples and helped me pick out a mocha which I loved (because I don't like coffee much). I am going back again and bringing more friends to share the delicious treats!
I didn't realise that this shop opened up in Darlinghurst until I was walking to Grill'd next door for dinner (I knew this shop had locations elsewhere and I have always wanted to go there). So afterwards, we popped in again to take away some cakes for dessert.
This is a Spacious cafe with very friendly and helpful staff. I know this place is famous for their chimney cakes but as we were so full, we thought we would try that next time (they make it fresh). So we took home, their carrot cake, mums chocolate cake (rich and moist. I'm not usually into choc cakes but this was delicious), blondie (dark choc brownie topped with white choc brownie) and tiramisu which I didn't take a picture of as it was devoured so quickly!
The cakes are priced according to weight so you can choose the sizing as big/small as you want. While it does seem a bit pricey, the quality and taste of their cakes is great and I really like the fact I can choose the size of my cakes!
Some of the most amazing deserts you will ever have. This place is definately worth the visit. Its easy to try a little of each as they are sold by weight. My only gripe is the weird take away coffee cups, large=reg and reg=small. Wont keep me away though.
Nice place. Friendly staff, decent coffee (not super good for my taste), delicious traditional pastry. Overall good place for a coffee and sweet treat.
Fantastic cakes 🍰 at a great price well worth the trip if you have a sweet tooth. And amazing iced chocolate.
They have real kürtősh here. Cakes are amazing too! The one with strawberry in the picture is 10dollers
This place is great!! The decor is interesting, rustic style. The staff are lovely. Food is excellent and it has good coffee. You buy cake by weight so you can get as little or as much as you like. The savoury food - mostly vegetarian pastries - are fresh and delicious. One of my favourite places to eat
Be careful here. It’s very easy to over-order and that will end badly. Great desserts, pastries, coffee, everything.
Friendly staff, quick service, and overall a pleasant place to hang out. Outdoor seating is comfortable, but you sometimes have to put up with the odd undesirable, but it’s not more likely to happen here than anywhere else.
If you’re looking for a cafe to try, you can’t go wrong with Kurtosh.
Great selections of cakes, pastries and beverages.
Didn't like the coffee- but like all places it depends on the barista who is on!
Cakes are fantastic but pretty expensive as they go by weight and $$ can add up pretty fast when you decide to get 'a little piece of lots of things'.
I go back again and again and it is my go to for some entertaining treats.
