Lovely food, extremely tasty! I had the silken tofu, roast pork belly, massaman beef, riverside prawns and St it fried flat noodles.Very flavoursome, loved the noodles and pork belly. Massaman beef was slightly different to most I’ve tried. It had a lot of bone. Service was good. If there’s anything to fault it would probably be seating opposite the door, it was very cold because the door didn’t fully close

A year had passed since my first visit to Riverside Thai, so I headed back to Pyrmont to see what owner/chef Paul Kanongdachachat has been up to. His nearly two-year-old restaurant has retained many of the more unique Northern Thai influenced dishes I enjoyed, as well as throwing in some new things, like Fried Taro ($12/4). Taro, which has come across from China, is generally enjoyed as a Thai street food. Here the four crisp fritters would make a clever drinking snack, as their starchiness literally soaks up your Singha Beer ($8). We eat them after they’re dipped into a sauce where diced roasted peanuts float on top of a traditional nam jim. Presented in an eye-catching shade of lime green, Thai Crispy Egg Pancake ($17) or khanom buang, has a history that goes back about six hundred years...

When you think of heading to a Thai restaurant these days, often a curry puff, spring roll or green curry comes to mind in a cheap and cheerful local store. But when we headed to Riverside Thai in Pyrmont, we were pleasantly surprised to see a more upscale Thai restaurant with a super interesting menu with plenty of signature dishes. There is a really good menu, that is quite extensive. It is authentic Thai food with the influences of Northern Thailand, using plenty of spices and sauces that leave the dishes packing with colour and flavour.

Not your usual Thai restaurant! Its menu reads more upmarket and well suited to the area of Pyrmont on Harris Street. Not sure where the name originates from as not exactly near a river but you’ll forget all about this once you have a meal here.

The service is warm and friendly. They’re lovely and hospitable without being fussy. She does warn us about the spicier dishes and this is appreciated by the group.

We really wanted to try a bit of everything so our group ordered a bunch of dishes and shared everything. Asian cuisine lends itself to being shared so definitely take the opportunity to do this here so no one leaves with fomo.

Presentation of the dishes are on point. They’re not only stunning to look at, they exude great flavours with silence hitting the table when we’re consuming the food. The highlights include the two Scallop dishes from the appetiser menu. Juicy scallops topped salsa and lime on one and the other served with betel leaf, lime, onion, peanut, and ginger. Both were tasty and made you savour the flavours.

The showstopper was the Original Thai Pad Thai With Lobster. A gorgeous half lobster adorned the traditional made pad thai topped with egg net. Loved the taste of it and the lobster added a high end touch to the dish. I also very much enjoyed the Roasted Duck Curry. Importantly it has a lot of meat in it with a rich curry accompanying it with pieces of pineapple and lychee to mellow out the slight slickness to it.

I wish I had a neighbourhood Thai restaurant of this quality. I would definitely visit here if you’re looking for more than your usual run of the mill Thai.

This is a Thai restaurant in Pyrmont. I believe the regular customers to this restaurant are people working in the neighbourhood.

The ambience was quite dark, and the restaurant is not very big.

We went there on a weekday evening and specially for their set menu. It was $55 for one person and minimum 2 persons. They were having a promotion at 50% off during that period.
The entree was very special. It came with 4 snacks in a bowl.
{Tom Yum Soup} was a mix of sour and spicy taste. Very good.
{Wagyu black pepper} was also very nice where meat was cut in think slices.
{Prik Khing Moo Grob} was a little disappointing. The pork was fried and tasted very hard.
{Dessert} is the one scoop ice-cream. It looks very nice and taste is quite normal.

Full disclosure. Had a 50% off discount.

The banquet was a lot of food. And everything was delicious. My favourite was the pork. Would have been a fair price if we paid full price.

Glancing across the entrees, we only recognised satay chicken and spring rolls. All other dishes require a closer reading of the description. Recommended by the restaurant are scallops tossed with Thai salsa and lime dressing, salt and pepper squid with shallots and Sriracha mayo. But it was the Roti ($15) with Northern Thai style pork mince and cherry tomato dip that had our vote. The flavour in the mince was rich and perfect with the fluffy roti.

Came as a guest. The green curry reminded us of Thailand. It had that authentic taste and you know when they add Thai eggplant that this is the real deal! The satay chicken skewers and fish cakes are to a good standard and the pad kra prow kai daow while it tasted nice was a bit too spicy for me! Worthy a trip for the green curry

Authentic thaifood, modern interior. Great space with view of the street.

Really good salt and pepper calamari. Roti with mince is a standout. Normally served with veggies. Must get this dish.

Liked the milk tea too.
They have marinated wagyu. Very tender.
You can get authentic thai fried rice here which is rare to find in Sydney.

They're going to be serving bar food and drinks very soon so nice place to chill in the cute end of Pyrmont.

Riverside Thai is a restaurant by the water in Pyrmont that serves a range of authentic Thai dishes. It is cosy and intimate and is open for both lunch and dinner, so we decided to come here for dinner one night for a casual meal. To start we ordered the Lychee mocktail and thai milk tea. The lychee mocktail was delicious, so fruity and refreshing while the thai milk tea was nice served hot but a touch too sweet for my liking.

We came here on a wet and dreary day, but left with a full and satisfied appetite after a warm and hearty meal. Sitting in a cosy corner by the window as torrential rain poured down in sheets, we ended up having a 3 hour conversation that ranged from grievances about daily chores to thoughts on the first genetically modified human babies, speaking to the friendly service that did not rush us through the meal. We had the:
1. Thai iced tea - always refreshing. On the sweeter side but still enjoyable
2. Salt and pepper squid - 5/5. My favorite. Salt and pepper is always good but this squid is especially tender on the inside and crispy on the outside. Strongly recommend as an appetiser (is it Thai though?)
3. Grilled octopus salad - 4/5. Refreshing with a zest from the pepper. Octopus was fresh, definitely a great option if you are looking for something healthy to balance your meal.
4. Blue swimmer crab fried rice - 4.5/5. Great portion, created for the fried rice lover. A little salty and there could have been a little more crab meat but overall satisfying. Can also enjoy with a curry dish.
5. Australian king prawn and brocollini in betel leaf curry - 4/5. I felt like the curry was the most average out of all the things we got, but it would be an incomplete Thai experience without curry (right?).

Street food somehow can be served luxuriously (Well, luxury to describe their the overall experience might exaggerate the fact but I was quite impressed by their friendly service, comfortable seating and the presenting of the dishes.)

1. The funny smell in their washroom as well as the narrow path beside the kitchen where lead to the washroom.  But the decor and ambiance are consistent with their theme.

2. Big portion - lobster Pai Thai (But Lobster is somehow I won't recommend as the meat is chewy and fishy)
3. Green curry tofu and vege. To be frank, I expected a healthy and light dish, but this one is quite oily and vege variety is okay but Hmmm, small portion.

4. Entree, “one-bite-wonder"? -named by me -scallop, peanuts .. wrapped with green leaf and please 'rudely' put in your mouth, enjoying juicy, rich flavor of everything.   (Hmmmm, sweet flavor dominates)

Staff is very friendly and helpful! The establishment is very low key outside and hearty feeling inside. The smell was a bit funky but you get used to it after a short while. Entree dish Scallop and pork mince on betel leaves were so fresh and such an explosion of flavors! Vege & tofu green curry was solid. Lastly, lobster put on a dish really makes it better, mostly looks. The lobster itself was fresh but overcooked imo, but it goes well with the noodle according to my gf. I haven’t tried this but I think it is probably better in the tom yum soup. Also eating it out of a shell requires a bit of effort.

Overall a fantastic thai restaurant with unique dishes compared to traditional thai. Would recommend!

What an incredible addition to the Pyrmont food scene. This suburb has countless Thai restaurants, but few with such a sophisticated and considered menu as Riverside Thai. The décor matches the chef’s vision for the restaurant - relaxed, modern and fresh. The timber panelling and soft mood lighting feels more like a luxury hotel you might walk into in Thailand, rather than a restaurant. The staff are very welcoming and knowledgeable about the food, so if you’re not sure what to order (and it’s a tough choice), just ask them for a recommendation.

Riverside Thai is a fabulous restaurant in Pyrmont with a stylish decor and beautifully presented food. The menu is large so either go with your favorite Thai dishes or ask the staff for their recommendations. For entree we sampled the grilled scallop with fresh betel leaf, lime, Spanish onion, peanut and ginger. This was a refreshing start to the meal with a unique mix of flavors. One of the must try’s for us was the lobster pad Thai! An impressive dish to come to your table with the lobster hanging off the side of the plate. We also tried the roasted duck curry with green bean, pineapple, lychee, grape and lime leaves which was a filling and warming dish. All of the meals were a generous size and bursting with those traditional Thai flavors plus a few new combinations!

A cozy Thai restaurant located near the Jones Bay Wharf, Pyrmont. They specialise in Northern Thai dishes. The scallops with Thai salsa is a wonderful starter. The roti are finger-licking delicious with the special dip. The lobster pad is just a wow-factor and it aims to impress 👏 👏 (with a large half lobster on the plate, the price can be justified).

Highly recommend the deep fried ice cream!! Staff are attentive and friendly. A good dinner venue to take your friends and love ones.

I rate a lot of Thai places by their Pad Thai dish. If it’s a bad Pad Thai you know you won’t go back again, because Pad Thai is a classic and if you can’t get a classic right... shame on you! Riverside Thai however, does a well balanced well done Pad Thai. That’s hard to find these days, some times it’s too sweet, too sticky, or the oil they cooked it in is too old and the Pad Thai has a weird stank. I decided to go a bit extra as it was my one cheat meal of the week and ordered their lobster Pad Thai because treat yo self that’s why. I rate it a firm 4.2/5. I also had their chicken satay and scallop with Thai salsa and lime dressing appetizers, and I will definitely come back for that satay. The meat was tender and the peanut sauce was such a good flavour. The kind of sauce you double dip and triple dip. Their Mussaman Osso Bucco was also excellent and impressive. Massive slow cooked beef in a flavoursome curry... yes please. Overall will return.

We went on a lovely stroll to Riverside Thai in pyrmont on a wednesday evening. We arrived at about 5:50pm and within 15-20 minutes more quests started to come in.

Drinks :
we ordered Thai milk tea and lychee drink. Thai milk tea is synonymous to the other Thai milk teas I've tried and it's very sweet! The lychee drink is blended ice with lychees on top - as someone who is not really a lychee fan I didn't mind drinking this at all.

Appetisers:

Scallops - it was absolutely delicious!!! This is hands down a must have, so much flavour and quite spicy. The scallops were juicy and fresh!

Octopus salad - tender and juicy baby octopus with Thai salad, a lot of greens, cucumber, tomato, onion and spring onion topped with a familiar Thai dressing. This was also quite spicy, you will find chopped red chilli in the salad.

Mains:

Lobster pad Thai: this just sounded so interesting we had to order it. A very very fancy dish that's perfect for date night. You will get half a lobster on your pad Thai. I am personally not a big lobster fan and not really sure what to look for when eating lobster, I thought the lobster was Average while the pad Thai was amazing. My partner on the other hand really loved the combination. I personally feel that you need to know how to eat lobster out of a shell.

Barramundi salad: this was very similar to the baby octopus salad, my stomach couldn't really handle all the chilli and this was my partners fault, he was suppose to order a curry but instead ordered a salad!

I thought Riverside Thai was on the 3.5/5 mark and my partner felt it was more of a 4/5.

We will definitely be back to try some of Riverside Thai's other dishes, especially the curry and roti with their special authentic northern Thai sauce.

* we were kindly invited

Is it the best and most authentic Thai going in Sydney or Melbourne (not in the race as all Thai restaurants have compromised on the heat/sour/sweet that makes Thai food what it is !) ? I'll confidently say 'Yes' as it isn't much different from what is served in the Isaan region in Northern Thailand. The region dishes out the best of Thai, Laos and Cambodia has to offer and Paul's food does it justice. Riverside Thai is a place that one is thankful for but I also fear its longevity. Paul is uncompromising with the authenticity of his flavours but needs to appeal to many who can't handle 'Tamada (usual/normal)' Thai heat. Offering a Mild and Regular version of the dishes is imperative to adapt without compromise (I'm not suggesting Paul drops the 'heat' component altogether.
I've git three simple suggestions for Paul - 1. Derve a lager on tap. 2. Drop that $6.50 per person corkage (If you're a BYO and back your kitchen, then $3 is appropriate) and 3. Serve share plate sized versions to make it possible for two/three diners to sample a lot more of your delicious food !

Amazing food!! Brilliant ambience but great service. This place is definitely on the more expensive side of Thai foods but it is worth every penny. The foods were presented very nicely and the portion size were definitely big. They also had some really unique foods on their menu such as the Mieng Kham (grilled scallop with Fresh Betal leaf, lime, spanish onion, peanut & ginger}. Also the dish that i was most excited for was their blue swimmer crab fried rice, it literally came as a whole crab with so much crab meat in their fried rice. It was crazy how this dish was served. Would recommend this place if you fancy something some unique dishes that you cannot get else where.

I cannot express how much I love the food here. Probably the best Thai food I have ever had in Sydney. Each dish is presented with great aesthetic and taste amazing. I absolutely love the Mussaman Osso Bucco (Slow cooked Beef Osso Bucco and Mussaman curry with potatoes and braised whole onion) and Pad Thai Lobster.

Would highly recommend this place especially if you are looking for a high quality upmarket Thai food. Also you should make a booking on most night because this place can get busy very quickly.

Riverside Thai is located in Pyrmont, just a short walk from The Star. They serve authentic Northern Thai cuisine with a modernized Australian twist. Chef Paul Kanomdachahat has 20 years experience working in the industry, along with famous chefs like Luke Nguyen and Chase Kojima. We had the pleasure of tasting authentic Thai flavour and experience Thai culture.

This restaurant offered unique dishes. I got to experience plates I would
never normally go for. The Ossobuco was a signature dish and oozed with flavour !!! The Satay Chicken was one of the best I have tasted. I am pretty fussy when it comes to Tofu but their Silken Tofu was extremely tasty and I would highly recommend it. The Wagu Beef Salad had a good kick to it and was really tender. Highly recommend their lychee drink and Thai Milk Tea both really refreshing and worth having. Loved the whole experience 👍
