This is not a place set up for fancy diners; this place does street food and I reckon it does it pretty well. Their seafood laksa (the true test of any Malay / Singapore street food outlet) is not the best in the CBD, but it is not far away (Malay Chinese takes that prize). One half of the at Laksa King room is table service (more exxy), the other half is pick up from the counter and eat in. Either way the food is the same, it comes out quickly and is tasty. I also like the char kwai teow (freshly cooked ... I steer clear of warmers).
I came here looking for a nice filling, hearty laksa and that’s exactly what I got. I ordered the vegetarian laksa with tofu which was rich and creamy. However a bit too oily for me.
Great laksa, great price, great service. The curry puffs were also delicious - fresh, golden and crunchy - definitely my favourite. The service was very fast and efficient. We asked for a spare bowl so that we could share the laksa and without us having to ask the waiter also brought over another soup spoon. It's a small thing but it really showed how thoughtful and attentive they were!
Location:
The place is located near Darling Harbour.
Few minutes from the Sydney CBD.
Ambiance:
It was quite cozy , nice place to relax and enjoy the dinner after a chaotic day.
Food:
Talking about food,
We had ordered Wonton Soup , Pad Thai Noodles and authentic Malaysian Curry with steamed rice.
Every dish had its own uniqueness.
Overall the food was great and we got to taste some authentic stuff .
First time coming here for lunch.
Dish ordered was tofu laksa. Portion was quite generous and they gave many pieces of tofu.
Tasted quite good. Might come back to try other dishes.
Laksa king is laksa king for a reason. Dont stray too far from their laksa and noodle dishes because thats what they are known for (except for the pho... go to a vietnamese place for pho). Their laksas are creamy and generous. You cant go wrong with any of the laksas,i personally enjoy the duck laksa (photographed).
Har mee is one of my all time favs from laksa king because there is a bit of everything in the bowl. We stupidly purchased laksa from a thai place once and regretted it instantly. You are looking at about 12-13 bucks for a bowl here.
Booking is now available. The place is always jam packed during lunch and very very loud.
We always go during work lunch and havent had a bad experience so far in terms of food. The joint is extremely busy so the service aint really there. I honestly cant complain since the laksas come out in 5 mins.. and its good stuff.
Visited here during lunch hour. Didn’t wait long for table and food came out very quickly. Laksa was delicious and portion was fair for the price.
Friendly staff. The ordered laksa's came out pretty quick. Nice filling bowl of hot flavorful laksa. We ordered for the medium spice and wow did it have a punch! The quantity of noodles were good. I tried the combination laksa and it had a decent quantity of meat, chicken and seafood.
Also tried the chicken satay which were good too. It had a nice crisp and was also juicy at the same time with a good quantity of sauce to cover it.
Ordered the chicken laksa and it did not disappoint. The broth was so perfectly balanced; sweet, spicy, umami. The toppings were fresh and delicious. The noodles were nicely firm, however the balance between rice and egg noodles was heavily one sided towards the rice noodles. Apart from that it is flawless 4.75/5.
But the main question is Malay Chinese or Laksa King. Ali vs Fraizier. Tyson vs Holyfield. Pacquiao vs Marquez. The honest truth is that 9 times out of 10 I am going to walk up hill from Wynyard station to get a bowl of Malay Chinese Laksa. No matter how close it is, no one is beating Ali. The beautiful oil separation in the broth makes it look like a moving artwork. The broth is just perfection and can be adjusted to your taste. The noodles and toppings are perfectly bouncy and proportioned. But, props to Laksa King for coming extremely close. There always has to be a loser, but they both will go down in the history books.
One of my favourite laksa places! Believe owner is Malaysia. Real food real people. Excellent cheap eat. Always drop in and come out with super satisfied stomach.
