Got a hot dog for a change and it was the same boiled pigeon sausage and cheap hot dog bun as anywhere else. The peas and chilli help but also make it very messy. Given that the pies are actually decent quality, the hot dogs should not cost as much as the pies. I'll bump them back up though for the surprisingly drinkable $2 coffee.
Harry's Cafe de Wheels is legendary. They are famous for the meat pie with mashed peas + potato and beautiful gravy. The pie was fantastic as usual and hotdog was equally impressive. Everything they put in the meat pie and hotdog are top notch, and I hope they continue on spinning the delicious wheels for many years to come. I give this place 4 bears
We ordered the peppered steak gravy pie which was delicious and had a nice pastry. The Chilli de wheels hotdog had everything on it but I wasn’t full from it. Portions need to be bigger.
It tastes same as the one near the opera house.
The staff told me they are same cafe.
Last time, I tried hot dog and tiger pie with a lovely guy.
This time, I tried same food with a lonely stomach.
Food is okay, the chilli hot dog is not that spicy.
Iconic food to eat when around Capitol Square in the city. Was one of the item in my ‘list’ when decided on road trip from Melb to Syd over the weekend ever since we relocated. As usual, ordered Beef tiger pie which was topped with mashed potatoes, mashed peas and delicious gravy. Not the best pies out there but definitely one of the comfort food.
We have visited this particular Harry's and tried both their pies and hotdogs.
The hotdogs we had were decent, although they were not overly special. They are a classic hotdog, and the pricing is about average. Something we thoroughly enjoyed was their Tiger pies. The mashed potato was delicious, gravy was hot, and the pies were quite nice. They offer a few different types of pies so they have something that suits everyone.
Hot pies, peas and potato mash ready to go with a thick and salty gravy. This tiger style beef pie had a thick pastry (not flaky). I do prefer flaky pastry and the texture here was a bit dry but overall the flavours were so good.
Price: Affordable
Food: I LOVED IT
Place: Limited tables and seats since it’s in a food truck. No shelter when it rains. (‘Coz it rained a little when we went there)
it’s a must try and definitely worth coming back for! 😍
My niece slept through the whole experience, but the rest of my family really liked the “Tiger” meat pie from Harry’s Cafe de Wheels. It was imperative that I show my family (from Canada and Hawaii) what an Australian meat pie is, and more than that, I thought it duty-bound as an Australian (well, dual Australian-Canadian citizen) to encourage trying the “Tiger”, any pie you want with mashed potatoes, mushy peas and gravy, named after their founder, Harry “Tiger” Edwards.
Supper in chinatown area? Stop by for this oversized hot dog with chili. If u prefer some pastry. They also have pies with mushy peas. Located just outside city's capitol and infront of central's lightrail stop.
