Normally go to Rhodes Phoenix for Yum Cha, but came here to the one in Zetland for a combined birthday/fathers day luncheon for the wife and father in law.

Service seemed a little friendlier than their counterparts in Rhodes who seem a little gruffer in their welcome. Although up-beat friendliness is appropriate when your pointing a temperature gun at peoples heads upon entry.

Food was really good and enjoyable. Every dish was of good quality and very tasty especially the BBQ pork ribs, prawn, garlic and chive dumplings. Mango Pancakes were well and truly on point as expected. Rich, creamy, and oh so moreish. The fried white bait were good. Crispy, salty and great. Like fishy crisps. All the dishes were fresh, and tasty.

Food wise was just as good as their Rhodes counterparts, and about the same distance from home. Would come back.

I came here for a yumcha on a Sunday midday. So I was not surprised that the place was completely packed and we had to line up. The selection was enormous and we had so many yumcha dishes to choose from. The chicken feet and prawn dumplings were my favourite. This place is definitely a little overpriced though and more expensive that most yumcha places.

Good variety of dim sums , the usual waiting in line for yumcha on the weekends. The Har Gow and Siu Mai taste very fresh. Tofu fa is delicious, quite pricey for you average yumcha but still better then alot of other places.

The yum cha menu is tasty with lots of variety dumplings, dim sims, noodles and other delicious eats. My only criticism is the service is not particularly helpful nor friendly. #eastphoenix

Brunching Chinese style, best with family and friends.

Place:
Located on 3rd floor of east village sholopping centre, Zetland.
Can cater and license for 500 people, huge place.

Service:
From what we received, it’s a pretty good & quite attentive.

Food and Drink:
Chinese tea, off course, the best way to cut through greasiness from some dishes.
Chicken feet: maybe not everybody’s favorite but I do like it.
Siomay, love the texture, flavour and a crowd pleaser.
Vegetable, served with oyster sauce it’s good if you need some fiber in your meal.
Love the variety and taste, one of my favorite new place for yum cha.

We had birthday party here with 2 big tables. All the food are great. Portions are huge. Big spaces to sit. We asked for some egg noodles with shredded pork not in the menu and they can make it nice for us. A bit pricey but still considerably affordable.

The thing I love about yum cha is that it is instant food. This place was pretty busy on a Tuesday lunch, which was a good sign. We went for fried spring rolls, steamed pork dumplings, steamed prawn dumplings and a whole bunch of other dishes that I had no idea what they were. They were all delicious!

The place is a little pricey so I’m not sure if I would go back because I know there is cheaper around.

Yum cha service can be generally abrupt so it's a pleasant surprise when you come across polite and customer-oriented trolley ladies and waiters that seem to genuinely care about their customers. A case in point, we ordered a dish of stir fried noodles and the lady insisted we wait a couple of minutes so she could bring us a fresh plate of steaming, hot noodles. When the dish we wanted wasn't on one ladies dessert trolley, she took the trouble to go find it for us. Our Chinese teapot was consistently topped up without us asking.

There was a good choice of yum cha delicacies and my only complaint would be that the white bait was particularly salty and chewy. Otherwise, it was a great lunch catch up with friends (because yum cha is always better shared).

Good yum cha however it does takes a while til your seated if you come during peak times.

Service is quick & fast when you are able to flag a person in black down.

All your yum cha usual dishes. Conveniently located at the East Village shopping centre so you can park, shop & eat all in the same roof.

Sorry about the poor quality of photos, the people I was with were in a rush to tuck in.

Been here a few times for yum cha and dinner. The food is good, probably better than your average yum cha place and it looks a lot better/cleaner than your standard Chinese restaurant. Good place to grab a bite with family or friends. There's also free 2 hour parking in this shopping centre but it does get crowded on a weekend for yum cha so go early or be prepared to pay for parking.

With 20min to go till the start of the night-time reception, we then headed out on the short drive south to East Village, Zetlands. Set inside the relatively new shopping centre, East Phoenix is located on the third level and has ample capacity to fit at least 300 (there were 23 guest tables at the reception, with at least 12 people per table and room for a large dance floor), with three private function rooms...

Overall, I had a good experience as a guest eating the Chinese banquet at East Phoenix. The volume of food served was reasonable and probably closer to being realistic than the usual copious amounts of food leftover on the table by the end of the banquet.

This is a modern restaurant for yum cha with free parking underground. It is quite busy but it is very large so we did not experience any queues. The restaurant is located in a nice new neighbourhood shopping centre.

The seating is spacious and everything is very new.

Food: The dim sims are very good - large portions, not overcooked and fresh. I really enjoyed the scallop dumplings and the corn dumplings too which were a surprise. However the mango sago pudding was not so good.

Service: The service is pretty attentive and they collected empty steamers quite promptly.

Price: This is reasonable, considering that the Phoenix restaurants do charge a little more than other restaurants for yum cha. But you pay for what you get.

I've had yum cha here a few times and the quality appears to be fairly standard. I'm not sure that there was too much to differentiate the dishes from those in most other yum cha outlets. Most recently, I found the meal to be satisfying and most of the staff serving were friendly but some seemed upset if you didn't want anything offered from their trolleys and that seems to be typical at most yum cha outlets. The setting is quite pleasant and spacious especially during the weekdays when there are fewer customers but it does get busy on the weekends.

Prices are fairly high as far as yum cha outlets go, especially when compared with other suburban options. On the plus side, parking is quite easy and undercover at East Village.

Always come here for yumcha! seriously lines are pretty quick or sometimes no line at all. the restaurant is pretty big, the food is pretty good! i love their egg tarts it is seriously the best , the pastry is thin and filling is delicious. Alot of the food that comes out is pretty quick and fresh but i would definitely recommend adding more dishes to the menu perhaps baked bbbq pork buns which is quite a trend at the moment

Only went the once and it was just after they opened up, so probably need to return to see how they've improved. Don't recall being wowed by anything but everything was pretty ok. Massive servings. Service was good, it's large, spacious and clean. And great parking.

Great Yumcha. Good clean surrounds with the usual dumpling fare. The salt and pepper squid is my fave. Never more than $25 a head. This is my regular.

Ok so I'm editing my review of this restaurant as it has developed so much since it took its wobbly first steps last year.

East Phoenix has come a LONG way in a year from an average "wanna-be" yum cha (targeting western palate with more deep fried and honey glazed foods) to a proper Chinese institution that Sydney-spiders actually want; serving authentic yum cha dishes like the delicious pork spare ribs (my favourite!), comfortingly sticky chicken feet and beef tendon, shallot soft rice noodles caramelized on the stove to a deep gold crisp exterior smothered in satay/hoisin happiness, delicately thin steamed dumplings bursting with mushrooms, pork, and prawn, lean chopped duck with plumb sauce and steaming hot cloud-like pork buns).

I have heard they have improved their portion sizes for dinner as well with equally great flavours. (I'll have to try this out - I remember paying $22 for one tiny dish last year)

They have clearly worked on their staff training a lot with very friendly and polite service from all staff we encountered. We were even offered tap water which is surprising at a yum cha place where you usually have to trip the manager over to get their attention.

Like any good yumcha there is a Big space here suitable for weddings etc

I'll be back with the family next week for sure.

Good Yum Cha, although a bit expensive than the other yum cha places in the city. Last time, i was there for dinner and i had to wait 30 mins for my foods (no...it's not busy). The taste of the foods just ok for me!! So, i have decided I would come here just for Yum Cha only!!!

Needs improvement but promising. I visited with 9 friends last Saturday and found the most scathing Urbanspoon reviews to be a bit over the top. Yes, much of the food wasn't suitably hot, and the service wasn't very attentive, and the trolley girls are on a mission to push their product (someone told me that some of them truly opt to be paid by the amount they 'sell'), but ... the quality of the food is quite good and the price, at $27 each, was OK. Overall I'd give EP 7/10 (great chicken feet and pretty darn good egg tarts) and I think they'll improve with practice. We had a booking but, (not so?) strangely, there were no waiting queues. The place is huge. Parking underneath (it has a paperless ticketing system) is free for 2 hours and the Zetland development itself is quite exciting - Bladerunner meets Westfield. Give it a go.

When the craving for Yum Cha hits, it hits hard and fast. Having no choice but to give in to our cravings we made for the closest one we could find. Conveniently, that happened to be the newest addition to the Phoenix Restaurant chain East Phoenix.

Great Yumcha in the east Sydney! Finally found a great Yumcha place in the eastern suburb! Dumplings are always fresh with lots of varieties.  I think this place has better/more various dishes than Sky Phoenix in the city. My favorite dishes are steamed dumplings, sticky donuts with chicken and fried white baits.  If you love Yumcha definitely recommend this place!
