Sir And Mlady Dine Out

La Pesa has been offering good Italian food for quite a while now. Their menu is a combination of both traditional and modern Italian cuisine and they also have an Italian tapas menu too.

It's well located close to the CBD so it is easily accessible for working lunches as well as dinners. Sir dropped by with a few colleagues for a lunch recently.

Spent some quality time with family over a quiet Friday Milanese dinner. It's quite a cute place tucked 1 block behind busy Oxford Street.

We ordered fried calamari, watercress salad with spicy pineapple and citrus king prawns, king prawn ravioli with creamy asparagus and saffron sauce, beef fillet and fish of the day. All dishes were extremely well received except the fish.

Calamari was tiny and very crispy, like bite-sized parcels that melted in your mouth. Watercress salad was very unique and the grilled pineapple and citrus prawns really uplifted the flavour, a tad heavy on the olive oil though. I enjoyed the ravioli very very much as the king prawn filling was cooked so well the prawn still had a little 'spring' with each bite. It gave me the perception that these were made in house and was very fresh. The beef was one of the best I've experienced. Seared to perfection outside but medium inside with a really tender, melt in your mouth texture. Unfortunately, the fish was disappointing as there were still scales left on the skin. Overall, 4 out of 5 dishes done right is still a great effort.

One thing I would note is that the host here is quite particular. As an example we weren't allowed to order tapas as we were seated in the restaurant and we weren't allowed to order beef more than medium cooked as this would destroy the beef. Don't disagree on that 2nd point but a diner's personal choice should be respected.

I think this restaurant is a great place for a quiet first date or a little celebration. Will be likely to revisit in future.

Friendly staff. Nice pasta dishes which are reasonably sized. Prawn risotto was they with lots of fresh prawn pieces.Scallop carpaccio entree wasn't fantastic though. Not a very exciting dessert menu so didn't order any.

Went here on a Groupon last night - 3 courses and matching wines. The food is mainly Milan style, which suited us just fine as we wanted to try a few dishes we hadn't had since Italy. Shared an antipasto plate to begin with, and then had prawn risotto and the osso buco for mains. Great food, really tasty and well presented. The wines matched the food well.Service was quick and friendly. Would happily eat here again without a voucher.

I had this on a list of restaurants to try after reading Terry Durack’s very positive review in the Sydney Morning Herald in June 2010. But it took me over a year to get there and not a minute too soon!. My pal, D., arranged dinner for six. I knew the restaurant was Italian but forgot it was Milanese. I’m liking this trend of restaurants that specialize in a specific region, rather than a whole country or indeed a whole cuisine. We were greeted with tiny glasses of complimentary prosecco, a nice way for us to lead into the wonderful negronis that they serve.

Loved it!. I loved the authentic regional food, especially the chicken pate starter, and the meatballs as a main. But I want to go back and try them all. More importantly, the service here was above and beyond, combining warmth with professionalism, it made the food and atmosphere even better.

Overall a great relaxed birthday dinner =). Maybe not the best Italian restaurant, but still quite good.

La Pesa is an Italian restaurant that serves up traditional dishes from Milan and the Northern region of Italy. The food was all really good , generous serving sizes with friendly service. They have a weekly special early bird offer of 3 courses for 2 $59 so you could get all the food you see here for $59!. I really enjoyed my meal there and will return again.

Really enjoyed it. Really enjoyed the food and fantastic service.

We shared the antipasto platter for an entree, had the osso busco and the seafood pasta for mains and the sorbet for dessert. Enjoyed all the dishes and the osso busco was a standout.

Highly recommended if you are in for an authentic italian hit =)

I am more inclined to give the restaurant a 3.5 but thought I’d be generous considering I took advantage of the Dimmi offer. The food was great, most dishes were done well. We ordered the eye fillet and pork as our main dishes. The beef tartare was our favourite entree but the salmon gravlax was disappointing. The blini was fairly dry. While the owner (or whom I presume was the owner) did an amazing job of serving guests and speaking through the menu, his offsider waiter was a bit too relaxed, did not seem to know what he was doing or check on us to see how our meal was going while the other person was madly busy. For the price, the meals could be a bit more imaginative. They were still delicious, but a bit too simple for me and serving sizes were typical of the french style. In summary, La Pesa has potential, I’d like to see them try new things to attract more business.

Cozy little French place with great service and some excellent dishes. We took advantage of the Dimmi offer of 50% off food and I'm happy to report I'd go back in a heartbeat. The beef tartar, souffle are must try entrees and the fish of the day and Chateaubriand are great mains and finally if you've got room the creme brulee and the cheese board are great closers. If you can get the Dimmi deal great if not then still check the place out it's well worth it

Really enjoyed baguette, chips and chocolate lava cake there. For the main we ordered mushroom crepe and beef (medium rare), crepe was ok, beef looked very raw inside but taste no different(looks but scary though). Chocolate lava cake was the best I’ve ever had, rich, good quality, well mixed with ice cream (hot and cold), with sugar and nuts(crispy and soft) and with fruits (rich and refreshing). Highly recommended!

Classico Moderno is a fantastic Northern Italian restaurant in Darlinghurst helmed by talented maestro Bryan Gerlini. It respects the cooking and food from the Emilia Romagna region of Italy. I had eaten here a couple of times and truly loved the venue on both occasions. A while back I shot all the pics on the website before they opened and I got to fall in love with some truly fantastic food then and then more recently I had a mini degustation meal at the lovely venue. The Contechino Slider aka Pig Trotter slider is a fave that brought back childhood memories, it is truly delicious and while nostalgic to cheaper childhood flavours is made with some magnificently prepared ingredients. The savoury mortadella mousse cannoli is also a dish I will never forget - superbly present covered in pistachio powder the flavours dance across the tongue. The squid cooked two ways in a pea puree is a personal favourite and the Zupa Inglese dessert will definitely fit so don't pass on it. The menu is all about freshness and flavours and while they are mostly smaller tapas styled dishes made for sharing, just order more, you won't be disappointed. And the wine - get it matched or if dining a la carte ask them for recommendations on what will suit the mains or what you will like the most. The wine is as nuanced as the food presentation and Chef's recipes.

YESS!! Finally a French restaurant that knows how to make French food without serving snails and frogs. The staff is very friendly, the wine is good. And the food just worst is price, very rare for a French restaurant. It feels like my mum just came to sydney to cook me some goodies. LOVE IT!
