Good service, yummy açai bowl (lots of fruit, good granola, just a bit too liquid for me), delicious pastries and coffee. Great way to start the day :)
Came a cross in this cafe in Camperdown and got a chance to try of their special pandan pancakes. Its like a piece of heaven with a hint of sweetness! Just perfect with my cuppa. A must try cafe, they change their specials every week which is something to look forward every week
Love having this place as my local breakfast place as the food is great and I love how they've laid out the dining area. The service is generally fast although not overly friendly, I get the distinct feeling that I'm not cool enough to be there!
Nestled in between building construction sites, this place is a little hidden gem. My beef brisket and apple slaw on a roll with gherkin was top notch. Beautifully flavoured, slow cooked and slightly spicy beef, with a perfect ratio of slaw to meat and apples to cabbage within the slaw itself. And in such a nice bun.
This was one of the board specials. Their breakfast menu seems to be larger and more of their speciality - I tell you what it would be awesome I reckon - I'm coming back for sure.
Great chilled out, industrial feel to the place and friendly service.
Quite a few months later and the construction site is still going on across the road (albeit it being mostly completed rather than a site of construction). I had passed here a few times and took the opportunity to visit for breakfast.
The service is very friendly and paid and ordered at the counter. Number given and table selected (I chose the high shared table, not so good if you need a seat back or don't have good core strength as can get uncomfortable if perched there too long). Went with the Potato Roesti (Slow Roasted Tomato, Poached Eggs, Bacon). The roesti and bacon were nice and crispy. Eggs were only slightly overdone and not as oozing as they could've been. The tomatoes were delicious and nicely roasted. Mocha was not bad.
The Runcible has been a hidden favourite for years!
The food is quick & tasty & really can't fault from any angle👌
Just hope that the excessive residential development close by doesn't hinder the cafe
Can be hard to find but worth the trip.
Great coffee and service!
I've had the pork roll a couple of times and it is perfect. Great egg dishes as well.
Highly recommended for breakfast.

As a loyal fan of Golden Cobra coffee, you’ll find me at this Camperdown café quite regularly, tucking into owner/chef Alex Watts’ famous Thai-style fried eggs. Hearing they’re now opening on Friday nights between 5pm and 10pm, encouraged me to revisit.
The free range chicken salad with green beans, tea soaked raisins, tahini and harissa was the biggest salad I’ve ever had that was not prepared by me. More specifically, the chicken serving was very generous in size, unlike the scarce bits and pieces you get in most restaurants. The dish needed a pinch of salt, but was nice in flavour. Free range chicken salad ($17) The second dish was their (famous?) slow roast pork be
I have fallen in love with Runcible Spoon, a cafe hideaway with a quirky name taken from a whimsical line in Edward Lear's The Owl and the Pussycat ('they dined on mince and slices of quince which they ate with a runcible spoon'). Located down a side street behind Parramatta Road's Deus Cafe, it has a crafy, homespun vibe with plants in repurposed pots, interesting portraits on the walls and a rustic bookcase stocked with jars of spices and food books. The menu is excitingly left of centre, with all-day breakfast offerings including Thai style fried eggs with pork belly, and a fabulous Mexican-style concoction (my meal of choice - pictured) with pureed black beans, avocado, tomato, poached eggs and salsa. The coffee is strong and flavoursome Golden Cobra, and there are some enticing desserts like a popcorn and salted caramel slice. Low-key, friendly and with an ever-changing menu, Runcible Spoon is well worth the quick detour from Newtown. Love!
I'm pleased that I made it to Runcible Spoon. If the rest of the menu is as good as the Thai style eggs then this cafe would be a real treat. Just a shame I won't be in Sydney long enough to find out....

It takes more than bacon and eggs to entice me to leave the comforts of home and prise me away from a bowl of Crunchy Nut Clusters, but how about the words 'pork belly' and 'Thai-style fried eggs' ? Now we're talking. Runcible Spoon is a quirky and inconspicuous cafe neatly hidden away in Camperdown's Barr Street off Parramatta Road. Barr Street is not exactly a busy thoroughfare so the cafe's popularity is due more to word-of-mouth than foot traffic. It is open for breakfast and lunch daily . The cafe has a good mix of indoor and outdoor seating, and on this particular wintry Sunday morning, the streams of early sunlight dancing around the dining area cast sultry shadows that hides the too-early sleepiness in more than a few diners' eyes. Aside from the Thai-style fusion breakfast , Runcible Spoon serves the usual run-of-the-mill, I've-been-everywhere-man breakfasts all day . Toasted muesli, porridge, eggs on toast, and confit salmon all make the cut, and the usual extras of baked bea

In case you didn't know, the (new) name of this tucked-away café, is a literary reference to a nonsense word used in The Owl & The Pussycat . Edward Lear's characters consume mince (and quince), using a runcible spoon, which pretty much equates to a splayd (big in the seventies). Add this obscure culinary reference to rustic house-made Fruit Loaf ($6) , a scattering of cookbooks like Neil Perry's Rockpool , and decent pepper on the tables; and you're in a little café with big ambitions. Thankfully they're realized in the generously spiced Spanish Eggs with Harissa and Woodfire Toast ($14.50) ... ...and the first really successful Breakfast Torte ($16.50) I've ever had, aided by house-made tomato relish, and organic Berrima Ridge eggs. There are even credible vegetarian options like fat Baked Pumpkin Gnocchi ($14.50) and... ...colourful Soft Tacos with Black-Eyed Beans, Corn, Jalapenos, Avocado and Tomato Salsa ($15.00) . Even the carrot cake is a sight to behold; and don't get me sta
Good vegetarian options. Service can be stand offish but this place has some really good veg dishes. From the simple spinach & egg roll to the delicious potato rosti with avocado& poached eggs, the menu also covers more adventurous options such as the Thai fried eggs with nam jim, tomato salad and rice; black beans with Caribbean style pickles and chilli corn bread; and a solid favourite, pan fried herby field mushrooms on a bed of puy lentils with labneh. A selection of divine looking sweets is always on rotation and the coffee is solid.
The food is great. Coffee is ok- the poached eggs with the potato rosti is a treat-
I've been going here daily for my morning coffee for months now and it's always excellent. I've also eaten here a fair few times and am always delighted by the interesting menu and unpretentious atmosphere. I feel the other reviews don't do this great little place justice. A big like from me!!!
Have a look behind DEUS cafe.... Enjoyed a tasty coffee and BLAT here for breakfast... great service, good value, cosy location off the beaten track behind DEUS café. Will definitely be back and I hope all goes well for the owners and staff here!
Great staff, friendly vibe, delicious rosti with poached eggs and really good muffins... it's been tucked away for years, where those who love it go (lots of cyclists and locals who like good food and no attitude), but with plenty of new apartment developments, it will get very busy soon... good luck to the owners, as they've worked really hard to build up such a strong base of support. i love it here... it was a wonderful change of pace from annandale, newtown and glebe when i first moved here. thoroughly recommend it.
Till next time. Great place but the Thai style eggs were quite greasy and I felt a little ill after- maybe would be better after a hang over when excess oil is required.
Still a cute little place and I would go back and try again.
I stopped in for a quick bite to eat at lunch on my way to work as a chef on the east side .
I've been here before and will be back again, again and again .
The free range Moroccan chicken salad with tahini dressing, tea soaked currants, candied walnuts and Harissa was once again BRILLIANT !!!
A cracking good coffee topped it off and lovely friendly service to boot.

Chilled place. I go to the spoon whenever I'm in the area. I'm from the east and i reckon we need a place like runcible over there because the coffee is excellent and the food is amazing. The Thai eggs are awesome. I definitely recommend this place : )
Fantastic super friendly spot for weekend brunch, with a Thai twist on the usual standard breakfast fare (think Thai style eggs with nam Jim salsa). We had the poached eggs with crispy potato rosti with Roma tomatoes and avocado. Everything on the plate was unfaultable. Coffee was quite strong but a bit too acidic though. However the star dish is definitely the very scrumptious lemon and ricotta muffin (housemade on site) ... It looks like a mini souffle and the texture is in between a souffle and a muffin - its quite fluffy and falls apart. You have to try it!
Food with love, and interactions with respect and humour - what more could you want?. I work around the corner from Runcible Spoon. The guys in charge took it over not that long ago (maybe a year? 18 months?) and have slowly transformed it. The design is now fab, with a handcrafted rather than mass-produced vibe. Which, I suspect not by accident, goes with the food. The menu changes in response to the seasons (although some faithfuls are there all year), and everything is totally delicious: it's real cooking, and real food. The coffee is 100% reliable. And - something that's important to the experience of the place - it's genuinely democratic and engaging. Everyone who visits is treated the same way: with care, and humour, and thoughtfulness. And that, my friends, is a very rare treat in the Sydney food scene. For me, it pushes Runcible Spoon from good to great and makes it my favourite local, hands down.
I believe they have recently changed owners and must say its for the better. Coffee is strong and tasty. Food was awesome for lunch. I had a burger which was fantastic (although my 2yr old also loved it and ate almost half!) my wife had the gnocchi and was also more than satisfied. A great inner west addition.
Coffee is strong but nice, suit people who likes to get a big kick from their coffee. Food is well made and creative. I tried their roast pork roll. The pork is perfectly roasted with crispy skin and melt-in-your-mouth meat, goes very well with the pickled cabbage and apple jam. Their muesli is also one of the best I've had with a bit of crunch and coconut which I love. Staff was very friendly, and wifi is available. However, if you're expecting a quick coffee in the morning, I don't recommend it as they tend to take their time to make it.
The Thai Fried Egg add pork belly is quite simply - out of this world! It is bloody delicious, filling, tasty and all the same, not too heavy! Super friendly service and great range of sweet and savoury pastries. The coffee here is also super good - love it!
Delicious Asian fusion breakfasts - very unique! Would recommend the Thai fried eggs and the potato rosti!
Great service and delicious food. The Mediterranean plate is amazingly delicious especially the crispy crunchy falafel🤤.
Strongly recommend it.
Best breakfast, perhaps ever! Was enticed to try the Thai fried eggs based on other reviews and was thrilled I did; it was amazing. Daughter had halloumi stack, incredibly generous serving and also delicious. Our new favourite local cafe, thank you!
Good local cafe! One of my favourite places for coffee - they do oat milk!! Currently they are doing takeaway only (because of covid). I haven't had much food from them but I have tried the Halloumi burger and it was one of the best burgers I've had and really decently priced with a large serve of fries on the side!
Come most mornings for a coffee and they are always super friendly and welcoming. A week or so I decided to give the lunch a go, specifically the beef Burger. It's so good always cooked perfectly, they also make some special sauce that tasts absolutely amazing, it's got a very unique flavor I haven't tasted anywhere before. Absolutely worth a visit if you're in the area.
