I was craving pho at work near Alexandria and used Uber eat to deliver the goods. I am disappointed on the pho, it lacks flavour but it was edible, Although it was fresh and it came quick from the restaurant. The iced coffee was really good, I am impressed on how strong and sweet it was.
Not a bad vietnamese restaurant to go to if you are nearby. I chose this and almost all the food are well made. The grilled pork i love very much. Lots of salad, and also the bread roll is good. Reasonable price and lots of seating indoor and outdoor. Easy to park right in front of the restaurant.
I was on a lunch break and discovered this place, they make pretty nice beef noodle soups, i will try and get back at lunch time because i got to try the Vietnamese bread rolls, nice pho quick service friendly staff. 👍👍👍
Certainly one of my favourite casual Viet restaurants in Sydney. The dishes that we got: Special vermicelli salad $14. Rare beef pho (large) $13. Pork roll $6. Great quality food. Good ambiance. A decent amount of seating.
The pho had a tasty broth with lots of herbs (maybe cinnamon) and the beef was good but not rare enough. The rice paper rolls (with a great sauce) and Vietnamese iced coffee were better. Strangely, the basic pho is fairly cheap starting at $11 but everything else is standard Sydney Vietnamese pricing. Plenty of seating inside and out.
Pho is always my favorite dish of Vietnamese cuisine. I’ve been to Vietnam and the taste of the broth here is same par with Pho in Hanoi. Here also serve Northern Vietnamese dishes like Bun Cha Hanoi (grilled lemongrass pork in light sauce and serve with noodle and herbs)
I lived around the corner of this restaurant and everytime i go there i always get constantly good foods with friendly service. My favorite was grilled pork chops with fried rice
The crispy chicken pho was absolutely delightful, and excellent value for money. A bit out of the way for me but otherwise I'd definitely go back!
Photown is a hidden gem in Alexandria. It would be so easy to drive past and not realise that 1) it existed and that 2) given its location, it would serve delicious food befitting the weekend as it has the appearance of a weekday lunch spot for nearby workers.
Serving Vietnamese food, the menu is vast from banh mi (bread rolls with usually pork or chicken and salad), pho (beef noodle soup), other noodle dishes (such as laksa and bun bo hue) and vermicelli salads. What really caught my eye though was their specials board, which boasted of a new dish – ‘bun cha Hanoi’ which is basically a grilled pork vermicelli noodle salad with the meat left basking in a fish sauce dressing. It was served with vermicelli, bean sprouts, fresh herbs and pickled carrot. The meat was amazing – it had a slight charcoal flavour, was well marinated and after soaking in the fish sauce, was ridiculously delicious and juicy. Aside from grilled pork, there were also 2 pork meatballs in the bowl – they were peppery and nice, but not the star of the dish in the same way the grilled pork was. Overall, I’m keen to return to Photown and try some of their other dishes. A truly great find on the streets of Alexandria.
