Review Rocks Teppanyaki - Sydney

Honestly such a fantastic experience. The food was really carefully put together and cooked to perfection making me savor each bite blissfully. The decor fit the restaurant with a slightly aged fancy feel - whereas where you'll be seated will feel simply modern. The chef was very open to questions and the staff were so warm and inviting. 9/10 the experience almost brought us to tears.

Had the Valentines day menu with the wagyu upgrade. Had a lovely experience with my fiance, special thanks to chef William for serving us this evening. Service was outstanding and the entire menu was delicious.

Had lunch here and it was really good. There was a lot of food, so be prepared. Most of the dishes were flamboyantly prepared with fire. I really liked the beef and the rice which was also cooked in beef fat.

Premium choice of restaurant for a teppanyaki show and meal with meat and seafood options available - a la carte or try a set course meal for something more special. The teppanyaki chefs are friendly and if you're keen you can interact with them more or just sit back and watch their culinary displays as they prepare your food in front of you complete with fire tricks. We tried a set menu including both fresh seafood and wagyu. All courses were delicious with the seafood paired well with butter and sauces, and the beef cooked perfectly - in particular the Japanese A5 (we ordered medium-rare) melts in your mouth like butter, and the "leftover" crisped up fat pieces of wagyu offered were a bonus hit of (fat is) flavour. The venue has multiple teppanyaki grills in separate rooms, though they tend to seat people together at the same teppanyaki table where they can.

The customer service was one of the best, everyone was friendly and welcoming. The dessert could be better but the rest of the food and drinks was great. We have a lovely time there.

It’s my first visit here, food is soooooo amazing 🤩 Chef Alex is really fun, full of laughter during our dinner time. The server Kai, he serving us very well, super friendly and patiently. Such a good birthday, highly recommended ❤️❤️❤️ Def visit again !!!

Groupon got really good deal. Service was great and the chef we had alway has a good smile. Food was nicely cooked.

There's a lovely little cocktail/bar room here. Just chill out and enjoy the ambiance. Cocktail server Ray is very knowledgeable and good for a chat. Makes wicked cocktails

I like this place, is divided in few small rooms, no crowed so you can have more privacy. The chef cooks delicious food in front of you and our chef was super polite.
Everything tested very good. We have already made another booking there for next weekend!

A tourist trap for sure.Wines were very cheap quality, food not fresh and overcooked. So annoying to pay a fair bit of money for really low quality food,...do yourself a favour and stay away.

I love coming back to this place. Entertaining teppanyaki chefs and great Japanese food.

Been here three times and it still has maintained their really good fine dining experience where both chefs and employees are nice, interactive and attentive. Not to mention, the food was incredibly good as they are all unique dishes making you filled to the stomach.

Winter menu:

Photo 2: Salmon and prawn 9/10 overall very tasty and nicely cooked

Photo 3: Lobster tail (upgraded) 8/10 not as tasty as the seafood dish but the meat quality is good

Photo 4: Wagyu roll 8/10 good combination with the two sauces provided

Photo 5: Banana Sapporo beer crepe 7/10 was a bit soggy but the taste was fine

Other dishes included:
- tender beef with sour cream and carrot (entree) 9/10
- hokkaido scallop 8.5/10
- Kingfish salad with secret sauce 9/10
- miso soup
- garlic rice

Food here is amazing and you get to see live cooking as well! The wagyu here is just beautiful. We had the Kobe Wagyu Deluxe and the tataki was seared to perfection. At 150gm , the steak was a challenge after the appetisers and soup but we made it! All in all a great meal. Highly recommended for the beef lover.

Decided to go with my boyfriend and do one of their Ito experience with wagyu and lobster tail upgrade. Overall food was delicious and cooked well and we enjoyed it.

Would recommend the experience.

What a great experience to watch a professional chef cook right in front of you! I loved the theatrics of it all and the food was amazing. I will say that this dining experience is quite expensive and it's a shame that it may not be accessible to everyone. If you're lucky enough to get a voucher or some sort of discount though, it's definitely worth going.
If you'd like to read more of my reviews, please check out my Zomato page and visit @cynthiaeats_ on Instagram for more photos!

Japanese cuisine with the touch of Australian produce. You get to sit around a live kitchen with the chef preparing the dishes.
The Rock is an excellent set menu if your preference is Chicken and Mushrooms. The mushroom soup prepares you for the excellent salad and the chicken main course.
A great experience and a must try.
@KeraBearEats
The Rocks Teppanyaki, located in The Rocks Sydney, is a famous restaurant that has hosted the likes of actors including Angelina Jolie, which means for a few hours I dined like a celebrity. . But what makes this Teppanyaki so special is not the celebrity status but the lengths they go to to source the freshest produce for their menu and how they train their staff.

You won’t find any throwing food into the air here, nor will you won’t find any frozen seafood either, and every Teppanyaki chef goes through an intensive 3-month long course is an excellent communicator as well as cook.

Went as part of Groupon deals. Price is worth it for all the sets being served. The chef that is cooking the dishes is entertaining as well - a typical teppanyaki chef who does performance. Food flow is perfect - not too slow but not too fast. We ordered a raw-medium cook meat for our wagyu steak but getting a medium cook instead but that’s fine considering the taste is good.

I don’t want to be a pain but unfortunately I can not recommend this place.

We had a lobster and wagyu AA9+ course with a bottle of wine. Food was very disappointing and drinks are overpriced.
Our beef was not marbled and the colour looked not fresh. We have had AA9+ wagyu both in Japan and Sydney but what we’re served was NOT AA9+ for sure.
Plus, the table mat was smelly and dirty. I even saw some cockroaches in the restaurant. Such a disgusting place to have dinner.

If you want to have teppanyaki experience or Japanese food, I do recommend to try other restaurants unless you wish to dump your money.
Kobe Jones is where it’s at if you want a Japanese banquet, and if you want added theatre to the meal, visit their their restaurant located at the Rocks, “The Rocks Teppanyaki”. This is not what you may experience at an American style Teppanyaki, where you spend half your evening dodging food all night, or trying to catch rice in your bowl, this is traditional Teppanyaki at its finest, where the talented Chef, Yumi Maeyama, hailing from Sapporo, Hokkaido prepares the meal right in front of you at the grill with care and precision.

Arrived at our reserved time. No staff to greet us. We had to go looking around the restaurant/bar for someone to show us to a table.
Only 1 table working.
Chef was friendly, but too busy to engage with the customers in the way other places do.
The food was fair, but not for the price, the meat had very little flavour (though the soup entree was nice).

As for service: each time the waiter added or removed a plate he leant directly between myself and my dinner partner forcing conversation to stop (this occurred nearly half a dozen times during the meal). Additionally at the end of the night before we had even finished eating dessert they demanded we pay there and then - bringing the bill is one thing, but thrusting an eftpos machine in front of someone while they were trying to eat is rather plain, and not what you’d expect for the absurd price for quality...
Located in a heritage building in The Rocks district of Sydney this restaurant is in an amazing location in Sydney. The building is renovated at clean with various private dining rooms all surrounding a teppanyaki grill. The menu is great. The staff are great and the food is fresh and full of the flavours you would expect. It did not have the theatrical value that you often get in a teppanyaki. No volcano onion or egg chopping in the fried rice. A lovely meal in a great location with a good wine list.

My daughter wanted Teppanyaki for her 18th birthday. This looked expensive but thought it would be worth it. It wasn't.
The food was OK but Ive had much better for half the price. the chef was very friendly but has none of the theatrics and pizzaz that I've seen in previous teppanyaki restaurants. The wine list was overpriced as were the cocktails.
The decor was plain but OK but the worst thing was a large cockroach crawled over my daughter's foot during the meal which really freaked her out.
I would NOT recommend this place to anyone except the Department of Health.
Foodie Loving Food, Food Loving Foodie
Disappointed and unfortunately would not recommend this place. I don't even know how they can stay in business... for the price you are paying you don't get much and you won't leave full. It was a just below average teppanyaki experience, with not much theatrics from the Chef other than the blow torch. The rice doesn't even come with egg which was a shame. Drink prices are ridiculously expensive and they add on service charge and Sunday surcharge. You would be better off going to a normal Japanese restaurant.
Gina Wu
The food is OK and the chef is nice. However, it seems the waitresses in this restaurant prefer to have white people as their customers. If Asian guys would like to enjoy yourselves, better wear your Armani and Chanel. Otherwise, girls there would think you are celebrating one of your most important days in your poor life.

Sori prens, udah lama ane ngga kasi komen di sini. Maklum sibuk cari duit supaya anak bisa sekolah (jiahhh).. eniwei, pas ane bangun tidur tiba2 udah di kota gede banyak bulenya. Ane tanya kanan kiri rupanya namenye sidnei. Ane kan laper, kebetulan ada warung imut namanya tepanyaki. Kirain punyanya aki2 rupanya punya pak kobe jones. Ini resto setingannya di ruko kecil jaman dulu, rada lucu. Makanannya enak kok, ane makan set pecinta dagingnya. Wagyunya sih biasa tapi daging lokalnya enak banget, bikin nagihhhh... meleleh kayak es krim di mulut ane. Tapi ane kasih angka 3.5 aja soalnya buat tepanyaki tukang masaknya kurang gaya2 gitu deh. Udah ah tidur lagi.

We booked a nine course degustation for our first teppanyaki experience. It was the menu
CHILLI LOBSTER AND FLAMED PARMESAN WAGYU. It was a nice experience but from the other customers it was not a real teppanyaki experience. THe show was not impressive and they were not throwing the food to you as they should. The food was good, quite small portion each time and for me it was overpriced. I know taht lobster and waggy are expensive but for the dessert we only get 1/2 strawberry by person on the top os a small crepe. I mean I could have appeciated a bit more fruit for the price of this menu. It is good but I will give a try to other teppanyaki in Sydney before coming back.

We had the voucher with scoopon and for the money-wise, I can't complain. But the quality of the food served was below par and it was the worst tasting lobster I had. It almost tasted like chewing old man's boot. Although wait staff was very friendly and even offered us some sake on the house. Seriously, I would urge you guys to look into the standard of the food you are serving and perhaps cure or marinate can definitely help a lot to add more taste and kick to your menu. If you ever ask me if I visit here again? Nope... definitely not for the lobsters. I would happily give 1 out of 5 for their food but staff and service was not bad after all so there you earned additional point.
Le Nguyen
This is just an average restaurant but very pricey. If you have the voucher, it would be ok to have dinner or lunch here. If you don't and you want a fantastic Japanese food, a nice cocktail and top services, I would highly recommend the Sake restaurant and bar, which is located in The Rocks, it will cost you $120 per person approx. but it worths every cents

Disappointing~
As a person who loves great Japanese food this as one of the most disappointing places i've gone too.
Lets just say from being excited about celebrating a birthday to finding your self in a hot, stuffy room with no ventilation isn't on my list.

Atmosphere: music was ok, it is well decorated (I guess)

Service: could have been a bit better, they seemed rushed and unorganised. The chef seemed to be having an off day?? the only thing said was what food he was serving us. We were a little confused with the a la carte options to opted out (instant regret)

Food: Steak was chewy and needed flavour, most of the dishes were edible (still needs some flavour no??). Also would have liked the rice earlier not at the end.

Overall:
If you want to spend the night in a fun environment, reasonable price, good food and character then this place isn't for you....

Don't want to be a pain but I wont be coming again
:)
Jmanchatty
Very good and great value for money when you come in with a voucher

The chef cooks really fast, polite and does a great job in ensuring your meal is cooked to perfection and puts on a nice show as well. However not as showy as other teppanyaki (they don't throw anything at you)

Best dishes are the number 1 special, the lobster and the garlic rice.

Steak is a bit chewy and the cut is a bit sub standard

Def recommend and revisit

Me and my girlfriend went here for the anniversary because my friend recommended to visit for the special day. We got seats and ordered two different menu. Chef came out from the kitchen, stood at big teppan table. And he gave us appetiser and preparing main menu with some cool performance. I did not know that there is fire show at the restaurant, it was sooooo cooooooool :))) me and my girlfriend were so happy with every dish. Honestly id been thinking these menu is quite expensive until i got main menu, but it totally worths. it It might be an unforgettable memory except the smell from downstairs bathroom. They should handle that smell.

Considering Kobe Jones has such a great reputation, we thought we'd try his teppanyaki at the rocks. As an amateur to teppanyaki, I was under the impression that it was meant to be entertaining? Correct me if I'm wrong but our chef was far from entertaining. He only spoke to the group or 10 of us to see if we liked our wagyu. Anyway, the food was average - some under average. The crab sushi was OK.. Lobster was OK, wagyu was nice and.... That's about it. Not what I'd expected.

Came using the groupon voucher ($69), not knowing what to expect. Was a bit disappointed that the chef does not throw the food at you like other teppanyakis however is always a fun experience watching your food getting cooked infront of you, especially when fire is used. Bit pricey however will fill you right up! The only real complaint was that the lobster was a bit overdone and steak was just medicore however everything else tasted great! Definitely would consider this for a special occasion

There was one year, I was invited to taste their menu and who could deny such an offer. The day that I went so happened to be on the day of the Mid-Autumn Festival also known as the Moon Festival. We were greeted instantly by Ji, the manager of Kobe Jones Teppanyaki - The Rocks. We were taken to our seats which was in private room next to the kitchen where we could see all our dishes coming out and then picked out a few drinks to start the night.

Starting off with the drinks, I ordered one called "Te Rak", which has a really sweet meaning behind it as it means Sweet Heart/Beloved in Thai. The recipe was made by Trent(General Manager) and inspired by the love of his life. The other drinks I tried that night were also very impressive and amazing in taste.
Moving onto the dishes, our Teppanyaki chef of the night was Yumi, who made small talk with us while cooking and introducing each of the 9 dish she made. Each dish was delicious in its' own way and was made right in front of our eyes too. My family and I had the most amazing night, all thannks to Trent, Ji & Yumi!

More photos & detailed info on each dish at: www (dot) miss-sennnaa.blogspot (dot) com (dot) au/2014/10/mid-autumn-festival-kobe-jones (dot) html

Had dinner there with a voucher, so it's quite a deal. Food wasn't very amazing, had a hair in 2 of my 11 course meal, so coincident? Was very very stuffy inside the very small room, was actually sweating while eating. The lobster tail was tasteless, I saw another person dipping their lobster tails into the beef dipping sauce, so I guess I'm not the only one thinking its tasteless. The beef however was amazing, loved it, it's cooked with the right flavour and exact timing. I was expecting some sort of tepanyaki performance, was expecting to see the chef flipping food onto customer's plate, but it wasn't mentioned in the voucher there will be performance, so I can't complain about that. All in all, I wouldn't go again.
Jimmy Dee
Very nice food, but super expensive. Chef cooked food quite well, but lacked the typical flare one expects. We could also barely hear what he was saying to us as he was so quiet.
Have been to a few teppanyaki, I generally love them and know what a good teppanyaki joint is. The chef and their personality are really what make the night, followed by good food - unfortunately this place just didn't cut the wasabi.

I was given a Groupon voucher for this meal as a gift, the validity period was only 6 weeks which I exceeded by 1 week. I pre-cleared this with the restaurant but they made a mess of the booking and did not pre-clear with Groupon.

I had to pay again on the night and was told I would be refunded after, once it was cleaed with Groupon. Since then they decided that wasn't going to happen and have kept my double payment. I've had numerous email exchanges with them and Groupon. The restaurant manager Trent Schmidt turned out to be horrible to work with and denied any wrongdoing, even though we've now paid his restaurant twice.

This seemed like a lovely birthday gift, but I was very disappointed with how the restaurant treated me both on the night and in the email exchanges since.

Overall - poor service, poor value for money, would not recommend to anyone
Nikki Kozycki
The food was spectacular, but we almost didn't get a table after our booking was confused with another location (and there was plenty of availability) and they couldn't produce an espresso martini despite being on the specialty cocktails menu. The Kobe beef was amazing, and we definitely did enjoy the evening.
Antonios Yapondopolus
A bit average. not what you would expect. Did not have the same charismatic chef and performance that one would associate with a teppanyaki restaurant. For the price, it was a bit of a let down.

Very disappointed 😞. Booked a table for two was adjusted with a big group where meals were already being served. I was made to sit on an extra table outside the main table. We had to wait a good 20 mins before we got our salads just watching others on the table eating. Teppanyaki is all about the style of serving , engaging the audience and keeping it lively. Our chef had broken English, slow pace and lousy. No breaking eggs no flame shows no ninja knife skills like we usually see . Most of the time she was absent. No music no decorations on the wall . A pretty dull ambience. I ordered "the rocks " meal and my partner ordered "crab" meal . Flaming no one special was the only good thing. Rest of it was okayish. The meals were very expensive. Around 150$ for 2. But it was not at all worth it . We could eat better tasting food for cheaper price for Teppanyaki was missing @ the rocks Teppanyaki . I would suggest you to re think if u are planning to go there. It may totally spoil ur day.

I've heard a lot about Kobe Jones and have always been curious about it, but never enough to actually try it out for myself until now. Read on for more... First up on the set menu was beef tataki, as well as crab salad with avocado and kingfish, all flamed with a secret sauce. While the former was definitely my favourite of the two, it was really fascinating to watch the chef do her thing right in front of our eyes!
Obiwanmy
Extremely long wait - am writing this review at the moment while waiting for my dessert for more than 45 mins. A poor couple just had one rice to share as the chef didn't know how to count. Not sure why he only serve 2 dessert to 8 of us and let another 6 waiting for 45 mins. Must be bribing for their so call hatted restaurant.
Hazel Hall
Waited 45mins for the dessert. If I didn't remind the waitress about our dessert, we would have been forgotten. How can you ignore the fact that your customers have been sitting there in front of you waiting for 45 mins with an empty plate. It's Tepanyaki for god's sake. I would never come back again.

We got a Groupon deal for an 11 course Teppanyaki dinner with lobster at Kobe Jones at The Rocks. We have been to many great Teppanyaki restaurants before, including Kobe Jones in Melbourne, so we had an idea what we were in for. It was good, not great...good, and if you are looking for an easy night with good food, you should enjoy it. If you are looking for a 'great' experience, you may be thinking somewhere else. Don't get me wrong, It wasn't bad, but a little lacklustre compared to the Melbourne version, which was a lot more inventive and original fusion.

I had dinner with my family and was looking forward to a pleasant night out. When we arrived we were greeted by a very rude waitress who surely does not like her job. We had ordered wine and was told that the wines we wanted was not available and when we asked for a sake menu she was clearly impatient with our request. She also had very poor English and we could not understand what she was saying + didn't help with her negative behaviour. It just felt unpleasant and clearly the restaurant is not hiring the right people to keep customers. It was a relief that a more pleasant waitress served us for the remainder of the nights. She was more attentive and no issues with communication.

The food was truly disappointing since the restaurant markets itself as an authentic Japanese restaurant expectation was high. I have dined at a number of teppanyaki restaurants and truly there is one of the most ordinary experience ever... Not recommended and will not return.

This is one of my favourite Teppanyaki restaurant in Sydney. I had a good Teppanyaki experience. Atmosphere was nice, staffs were friendly and food was great!! When I dined in, I had a set menu.
Start with their signature dish, was very yummy!! The main dish, Wagyu beef was cooked exactly what I wanted!
I'll definitely come back there soon!

I have been to pretty much every teppanyaki there is in Australia and this is by far my favorite! the Kobe Jones sunset was beautiful as to was the sweet meaw my wife had (a butterscotch cocktail that was more like a frozen dessert YUMBO!) lighting was dim and the rooms are elegant and ever though you are sharing the table intimate and with a degree of privacy. really enjoyed the experience. 5 star great stuff!
The Truth Hurts
Wow if I could end a review in one word that would be it! chef Yumi was fantastic! We took our 2 year old and to admit probably not the best setting for her she was a little afraid of the Flames, the whole meal took about 2.5 hours as we did a 10 course, great cocktails and the dessert on the teppanyaki was the perfect finish to the perfect night!!!
Kimmiikym
I went there with curiosity, to try something I've never tired before. Absolutely loved it!
Unique combination of traditional & modern Teppanyaki. It was just amazing!
Enjoying the food in its simplest form, personal chef cooking for you in a way you like your meat to be cooked. The chef Yumi was full of humour, felt like I was in a stand up comedy show. Never laughed so much before in a restaurant. If your after something new, I would defiantly recommend this restaurant :)
Eatventures
Located in a heritage building on top of the Rocks, Kobe Jones has used the space to create a modern twist to the historical building. The restaurant is split into five different Teppanyaki rooms giving each diner an intimate experience every time they dine. In the past I've loved teppanyaki but my innate lack of athletic skills have steered me away from fear of missing a whole bowl of rice and have my dinner end up on my lap. However I've always been allured to watching the chef's skills and how simple flavours are used to create a delicious meal in minutes, right before your eyes. We were seated by welcoming staff a group of other friendly diners there and to our surprise we were lucky enough to have head chef Yumi Maeyama serve us. Our dining experience came from a Groupon voucher where we were able to have an otherwise $185 11 course for $88 per person. We started the meal off with a serve of Sake. I've never had Sake before so this was an interesting first for me. The rice wine was a very pure and clean with a subtle sweetness to it. A very refreshing and cleansing to start the meal. Bloody Mary Oyster Shooter & Beef Tataki To start we had a Bloody Mary Oyster Shooter accompanied with Beef Tataki and steamed Edamame. Steamed Edamame was served at room temperature and is always a nice treat to start. The Bloody Mary shooter was nice and tangy with a secret fresh oyster swimming around in its tomatoey depths. The addition of chives and coriander really lifted the freshness in the shooter. The beef tataki was sensational, full of flavour and cooked flawlessly. The thin slices of beef were seared to perfection with a combination of chilli paste and vinegar throughout. What's underneath?

I love teppankayi with a passion. Mike and I had the 11-course Lobster Tail and Wagyu Banquet using Groupon vouchers ($69 for AA6+ wagyu, and $88 for AA9+ wagyu). I bought one each, so we could try the different grades of wagyu and decide which one we like better - definitely go for the AA9+! The food was superb, and we were thoroughly impressed by the lobster and wagyu. However, our overall experience of the atmosphere was a hit-and-miss.
Rae_Grace
Do NOT waste your time and money.. Service was lovely, but food is not at all impressive; Wagyu lacked flavour & wasn't even marbled; Chef used way too much butter. The quality of the food does not match the price. The "Teppanyaki" lacked the element of entertainment, it was more a boring display of food. The only thing they've got going, is that it's in a "heritage building". Let's not forget that still water is $8 a pop. Over all, over priced. Wouldn't do it again.
Matty Eddy
Overall, the food is fantastic but the standard service is really not matching up with the food. We literally did not know what we would be getting as the Groupon was quite vague and we were not given a menu to show what we will be getting - it is something really to work on. We also not told what we were served when the chef put the food in front of us. There was no recommendation of what sauces to use either.

Oh boy, the mid-semester break is ending soon and I have so many food reviews coming up for you guys (you can guess how I wisely spent my break) but I’ll save them for later since we all know that once finals start coming in, fast/junk food becomes the staple diet. So I won’t be going to a fancier (and pricier) place like this anytime soon. Speaking about pricey – this is definitely the most I’ve spent on myself for a food to date. And even then, my friends and I being poor uni students, used a heavily discounted Scoopon because realistically, I would have to starve myself for two weeks to afford a 10 course teppanyaki at Kobe Jones Teppanyaki. So thank you to Scoopon for fulfilling our teppanyaki fantasies since for most of us, it was a first time. Note that I don’t really have an input to some of these dishes I’m posting since I’m actually allergic to most seafood, sorry! Seriously, this place was hard to find! I wish I took a photo of the exterior so it could help you guys in t

I feel grateful to be part of a talented and supportive team at work and have the privilege to pick and decide where we should go for our A Team dinner. So how does one decide on where to entertain 14 other brilliant individuals? Where else than TEPPANYAKI! No other than Kobe Jones @ The Rocks!

Highly Not Recommended... Poor Service.... This restaurant is only a rip off. Did not feel welcome from the beginning, maybe should have left but we wanted to see how it was.

To start with, while waiting for our passed reservation time we ordered two cocktails which we saw in the making were only mixture of few bottled fruit juices which tasted like very artifical and coloured sugar waters. Even my glass was less than half full, had to pay $18 for each.

Okay they took us into the room later and made us sit on the very side corner which I said it is not a good spot, I am seeing the cooking floor and the garbage but were told that the teppenyaki table is booked out so can't move a seat. Later on we saw that it was a lie since we were told they all cancelled their bookings in the last minute, if you read the other reviews you can see this has happened to other people as well.

We ordered a bottle of wine from the menu, a not so expensive one thinking we might get the second, we were told they ran out of it, so we ordered another one, and each time she had to go back and come back taking 4-5 minutes, this happened 4 times but apparently we chose the only ones that they just don't have, and we had to order an expensive wine but by the time we got it we were already starting to eat our mains. It was hard to get the attention of the waiters and our waiter could not understand English well so it was hard to explain and communicate. I mean if you are saying you are one of the best gourmet restaurants in Australia you have to be careful about these things.

Also the room was boring and quiet and if that was not enough the chef was so boring, not talking or even a glimps of smile, normally you don't care but this is teppenyaki and like all the other teppenyanki places you expect some sort of interaction with the chef, otherwise what is the meaning of it. I mean we were not expecting total entertainment but this was too much.

Plus, even though they take orders before seating and we ordered our meals normally, after a while we saw that we were made to sit with 4 other people who were using their meal vouchers. That would not be a problem but the order of cooking was getting planned to their meals, making it cook for them all the time and prepare the dishes like side dishes and rice or soup according to them, which resulted us to have a raw salmon for my partner which had to be given back and recooked and by time time my beef had to go cold. Not only that since the people with vouchers had too many entrees and side dishes by the time the miso soup and the rice for the mains came our main meals were already finished long ago and we were given the soup and after a bowl of butter rice at the end of our meal. It was funny to get just a bowl of rice at the end of the meal without anything else and we had to leave it without eating. I mean what did they expect us to do with only a bowl of rice after everything has finished??

Not only these, while we were paying for our dinner, which in total was a one sushi sized entree, a bowl of tasteless mixed leaves, a slice of steak with some spinach and a bowl of miso soup and rice for almost $100 each, we could not stop ourselves and told everything that we went thorough and said it was our anniversary today and these things happened we are not happy about it, instead of trying to explain or saying just sorry, we were talked over and they defended themselves all the time. In the end we had to get out, without hearing even a single sorry which made everything worse.

So try to avoid this place and try to tell other people as well. I was going to take a highly important visitor from overseas to this place, I am glad we could not find the time for it. It is really hard to understand still they make money on some people...

Not sure whose idea it was to do teppanyaki in a room the size of a bedroom! No ventilation whatsoever and we left reeking of oil. Speaking of oil, there was WAY too much of it in the food. Our dishes were quite nice but halfway through my husband and I did notice the unnecessary amounts of oil and butter being used. I mean they even cooked the wagyu fat in butter!! What next, deep fry it before serving to us?! The chef also needed to work on her timing as the lobster was a bit overcooked and by the time she served the wagyu fat, most of us had already eaten the wagyu and the rice. Won't be back but will definitely return to its sister restaurant (Wharf Teppanyaki) as it is much more spacious.

Classy and delicious food. Fine dining Japanese teppanyaki style. I was surprised by some of the review here.I found the Head Chef Yumi reserved but took pride in her cooking. It was genuine good quality Japanese. Bought ticket from groupon. The seafood salad is delicious with dressing, squid and prawn lightly seared. Scallop sashimi was so divine! I was not a fan of crab meat as it's too creamy but that's the only rich food. We had lobster tail that was so fresh but a tad overcooked. Palate cleanser with lime sorbet perfect for the main Wagyu beef (grade 9). Loves the garlic fried that is not overpowering. Miso soup is delicious too! We thought we will pass the dessert as I'm not a fan of crepe but it was so light and fluffy made with good dash of grand mernier served with vanilla ice cream and caramelised orange.

Overall, I think it was really good value for quality teppanyaki Japanese food. Fine dining.

Oilly and tasteless The .... Oilly and tasteless

The young chef (? Or staff only) served us with overcooked lobster, worst A9 beef i never had and extremely oily garlic fried rice.
First,I couldn't taste any lobster and beef flavour they should have.
The worst one is the fried rice. I saw the chef first put a lot of oil then butter, then wow more oil. At the end, it becomed simply a hot oil mixed with rice (can't feel andy garlic)

I won't return becos i believe any one can do better than them in their own bbq in the backyard

Underwhelming. Had the 11 course Lobster and Wagyu Beef Banquet with Sake. Expected some wow factor. Was extremely disappointed. The seafood medley of sashimi didn't taste very fresh and was a bit chewy. The lobster was way overcooked - what a waste of beautiful seafood. The wagyu beef roll was similarly overcooked. Are all things cooked for show on the teppanyaki supposed to be cooked within an inch of its life? The sake served was cold even though hot was advertised and was served in a small shot glass - how opposite to generous were they? All this for $138! What a waste of good money. I'd rather spend this on a magnificent seafood platter for two at Doyle's where they would cook the seafood with respect. Didn't like the decor either. Just weird for a Japanese restaurant. Will never return. Should have taken note of all the bad reviews on here and went elsewhere.

Absolutely disgusting. Poor food poor service.
No explanation of the sauces, awkward timing with service of food, Ice cold miso soup, unfriendly chef, intrusive (reaching in front of my face while I was eating, no manners) and unhelpful wait staff.
Although I didn't expect much with the $138 for two groupon voucher, it was Totally not worth the price!!!!! I do not recommend this place to anyone and definitely will not be going back here!!

Loved it. Visiting from the Gold Coast and like to think we know a good teppanyaki when we see one! The meal was the best teppan we have had from the salad to the prawns, scallops, salmon, beef and chicken through to the green tea creme brulee, absolutely magnificent!

Poor Teppanyaki at Rocks. Went to Teppanyaki at Rocks with a friend on Friday 30.8.2013 with a voucher of $89 for Eight course dinner for each. We were placed in a small room with 10 seats around the Chefs table. The service was extremely poor as well as the quantity and quality of food. The Chef was pouring many sauces in his preparations, which he was referring as special sauces and the food ended up extremely salty. When we mentioned this to the Chef he was upset and he replaced the salty rice with half cooked rice. Ordered a drink and they forgot to bring the drink. Would not recommend anybody for this price.

Fantastic but buy online discount vouchers first!. We went here tonight for a family birthday dinner for 8 people. We had a private dining room and had a wonderful time. The food was delicious and it was a great atmosphere and lots of fun. I will say that luckily we had discount vouchers, otherwise it would be way too expensive for the 11 course meal we had. We left feeling full and satisfied. Highly recommended but definitely find some online discount vouchers before you go!

Intimate and Personal Service. Where do I start? Amazing experience, 5 of us went and we could not fault a single moment. The Chef 'Umi' looked after us as did our host. The food was sublime, we had the Lobster and Wagyu experience. Found it hard to move after SOOOOOOOOOO much food! def'be back

Nope. On a rainy night we chose to go this restaurant as it was close to our hotel. Teppanyaki would not normally be my first choice of cuisines. This place does it well but at a cost. The prices here are, well not to mince words, stupid and totally at odds with what you are served. I ordered a banquet. It consisted of entree plate of sashimi, 1 barbecued prawn, 2 barbecued scallops, 100 grams of barbecued sirloin, some grilled bean sprouts and a single golfball size serve of vanilla ice cream. Cost? $98!

Service is poor, you can be left on your own for long periods of time and there is no warmth to the service. It is just "do what has to be done and let's clean up the place and go home". Food is ok but at these prices don't bother.

VERY POOR. Extremely poor. didnt enjoy a single dish. at 200 a head this is almost the worst value for money i have EVER experienced.

Good food, not outstanding. I came to this restaurant with somewhat high expectations, it's in a great location near the Shangri La. The entrance is like walking into someone's house! There are several dining rooms, each located around a big flat cooking surface. I'm not that easy being seated in close proximity to complete strangers (!) and I feel they could have made a bit more room, we were elbow to elbow. The food was good, I would not say great, but certainly quite tasty. We had a set course (one was the standard Kobe, the other was one I can't quite remember the name of!) and they were nice to let us share, so we each had quite a variety.

Don't go! Spent $700 for 4 people. Lobster overcooked, chef inexperienced, very ordinary. Wrote to complain and still waiting for a reply - 4 months later. Save your money and go somewhere else....

Waste of Money. This is one of the poorest Japanese experiences I have ever had, shocking service, food was terrible and very very expensive

They dont throw food at you!!. Firstly going to Teppanyaki, you go for the entertainment and experience, you don't go to feel that your stomach is going to burst out of your pants. It is not a buffet. For myself it felt a little hungry afterwards.

In terms of experience, its more intimate than your usual teppanyaki place, with your chef explaining what he's cooking and a maximum of 8 people at your table. There was some difficulty understanding the chefs accent but that was a minor issue. Wait staff was almost always there and they take your food usually and place it in front of you.

Also this is easily the most expensive teppanyaki place I've been too and what you pay for, you expect more food. There is no throwing rice into your plate here though but very well presented food. Maybe its better food isn't thrown on you anyway, most likely you'll be going out afterwards and you don't need stains on your shirt.

Ambience wise its a little townhouse where when you look in, you feel a little out of place because its looks so posh, a posh teppanyaki place with nice furniture but when you go into your seats it looks and feels ordinary and you are in a small room where space is used efficiently.

Is it value for money? Thats difficult to say but its definitely expensive. At least to me the quality of the food was fresh. For me, its a once off experience but I did enjoy it.

Very cool. Front row seats to all the theatre of a teppanyaki hotplate, expertly sliced and diced with self effacing humility. No need to catch or juggle your food here, only sensational Kobe beef, delicate salmon and tasty teriyaki chicken. Elegantly done.

Best teppanyaki in Sydney. The wagyu beef and king prawns are truly the freshest and best teppanyaki in Sydney.

Also, they don't write "thank you very much" with salt on the teppanyaki grill after cooking for you.

Over priced and bad service. Even with a booking we waited over an hour from sitting down and taking orders to seeing any food let alone food cooked in front of you. The chefs were nervous and did not interact. While the waiters were few and far between and. Uninterested at best .
