This place is there best, Sandy and George are gentlemen. I've been coming to this establishment for some time, and I'm never let down.
Ambience: Warm, friendly and relaxed
Food: Outstanding, there isn't anything on the menu, including made to order dishes that you wouldn't eat, love the lot
Price: Absolute value for money
Do yourself a favour and give this place a try, you'll be back.
My favorite coffee in Newtown! Decent food with excellent portion sizes, too, but the coffee is the real draw. They also do a nice Greek coffee.
Amazing food and service. Have been a regular at Lou Jacks for breakfast / coffee for a number of years and decided tonight to try their dinner menu. Wish we had done this sooner - all the food was amazing (the dips; fritters; halloumi; and cheese triangles were the highlight) and (as always) the service was first class!
Lou Jacks is fairly unpretentious with no particular theme to the décor. There is a hint of Greekiness in parts of the menu, and a couple of bottles of retsina lurking on the shelf behind the bar, but it’s very low-key. The vibe is pleasantly honest and straightforward. It’s just a café, with a bit of a courtyard out the back. I have no idea what the name means. I hope it is the names of the owners, but maybe it is their favourite bourbon. Who knows? The service is very efficient, we have a couple of coffee orders away before we have even had time to look at the menu. And the coffee is excellent. Delicious Brekkie. This busy cafe was full when we arrived, but we went for a wander down Kings Street and when we returned there was a table free. Our order was taken as soon as we'd had a chance to consider the menu and coffees were swiftly followed by fresh orange juice. A Big Breakfast and Peasant's Breakfast satisfied our hungriness. In the meantime lots of people came and went - many greeted warmly as regulars.

Love Lou Jacks. Great place great people great food. Gets busy and sometimes slow but always great food and service. Have come here quite a few times.
The.Best.Coffee. These guys make it the way I like it - its strong but smooth and delish, with a hint of chocolate maybe?
The staff are really friendly and get to know you by name.
I have robust discussions about whether Black Star or Lou Jacks have the best coffee in Newtown, and the jury is still out.

Wow some ppl can be very hard to pls I have been goin to Lou jacks 4 10yrs n could not think of a better place to take friends or family, the atmosphere is 2nd to none the staff n management r friendly efficient n well organised which makes it a comfortable relaxed atmosphere. Last time I checked I was in 2012 not 1912 where the cost of everything goes up well atleast in the real world it does I feel the prices r more than affordable n portion sizes r sufficient. I suggest everyone to get to Lou jacks n give it a try I guarantee u won't b disappointed n will become part of a wonderful environment without much damage to ya pocket
Good cafe. This is a great place to hangout! I love the courtyard at the back. Staff is great - friendly and very likeable. Daavid is an excellent barista and has nailed the coffee-making art. In short, i enjoy going to Lou Jacks'.
Wholesome. Lou Jacks to me is a place to eat well and relax my bones as I am there 6 days a week. I can guarantee you the food is tasty and fresh and I enjoy there coffee and service. I have no ties with the place, I just think they deserve a rap.
Always a favourite. Great coffee, great breakfasts. Love the open air courtyard out the back to escape the bustle of King st. While some weekends it can get quite crowded, I've never failed to get a table. Recommended!
The spaghetti with fetta cheese & tomato was excellent. Their menu has a wide selection for breakfast, lunch and dinner- all available anytime. They also have fresh pressed juice. It has a cosy ambience with friendly service on the main Newtown strip. A+

Had my chicken risotto today and it was delicious! Service was good and didn't wait long for my lunch! I love the combination with mushrooms and olives!
Great relaxed environment. Food is really nice, and easy on the pocket too. They have a court yard, accommodate smokers. I've been here many times over the years, breakfast, lunch, and in the past, dinner. Although I don't think they open for dinner service anymore, you can't go wrong.
Give this place a shot, you won't be disappointed.
This lovely cafe is a favourite for our whole family. The food is always outstanding and the staff are friendly and helpful. There's a great outdoor area out the back with plenty of seating if you're keen for fresh air without sitting out on the footpath, as well as lots of tables indoors. They also do quite good coffee and smoothies.
Good solid old style cafe. We had the salmon omelette (a little dry but still good)and pesto eggs which were tasty. The coffee was really good.

It was raining and cold outside, but inside was lovely and warm.
Prices are reasonable, possibly on the expensive side, $16 or so for some salads and bruschetta etc.prices ranged from about $7 to $25 or so. Many of the meals are around the $16 price.
Would definitely recommend, they have an outdoor area out the back too! Perfect for larger groups of 10 or so.
Probably about 4.5/5. Only draw back is some of the prices; but do appreciate rent is expensive in this area.
