Seems to be under a new management - the team is great - really fun and friendly - very service focused which is a breath of fresh air in the sydney cbd.
food is surprisingly amazing - fresh pastas are pretty damn good - pappardelle with summer tomatoes was incredible - will def make this my new fave spot
best happy hour in town - 25% off all bottled wine. great food specials every day and good service - gets very busy but a cool atmosphere with good food, wine and vibe
Loved the tacos here for Taco Tuesday - $3 a taco! The bulgogi one is by far the stand out! Great vibes on a weeknight - would definitely come back :)
Cant go wrong with taco tuesdays at $3 each! The fish tacos are suppperb! Could defs eat 3 of them in a row. A range of others to also select from. Good service.
Good food and great value with happy hour menu which he’s on until 7pm. I had the salmon which was good portioned. Happy hour wines at $7. Free wifi too which helps. Not open on weekends unfortunately.
What a gem. Here with a Groupon and had a really memorable meal that I did not expect given I Cook well. Coming back!
Recommended Thanks for a lovely evening meal!
This cosy restaurant is located on Bligh Street. With a large bar set to the right side when you walk in, the tables are set up on the left near the window as well as at the back. There were a few large groups and since the tables were tightly packed in, the table we had seemed to be the thoroughfare to the these other tables and felt like we were in the way. Noise levels can get quite loud in here too so not too conducive for conversation.
Service is pretty good and the once you're settled in, they're quite efficient at serving the tables. There was a gap in between receiving my meal and the side and my friend getting their meal.
It was forgiven once we received our dishes. We had ordered the Torn Hanger Steak, Braised Lamb Shoulder, and Roasted Baby Carrots. The steak was cooked medium rare and served with a fresh rocket salad. Quite tasty. The lamb was melt in the mouth and came with eggplant purée, tomato, olives, feta, and mint. The carrots were great. Loved the pomegranate seeds and almonds with it. Tahini provided a lovely texture to it.
TACO TUESDAY!! Contrabando are currently taking over the kitchen with $3 tacos every Tuesday while they're renovating. By far the best tacos I have had in AUS! Make sure you wash them down with a delicious margarita 🌮🍸
The Wolf Wine Bar food is superb and the service admirable, especially considering the level of patrons in attendance. While the venue is in the finance area of the CBD the patronage was from all walks of life. If it was open on the weekends I would definitely be in there for the breakfast. From what we ate I could be nothing but impressed.
Full review is now up on Spooning Australia.
Relaxed beautiful setting in the heart of the CBD. Service was unbelievable, greeted with a warm welcome and seated straight away. Food was excellent , the set menu is a good way to taste 5 filling dishes and leave feeling satisfied. Highly recommend this awesome place !!
Amazing churning of meals here from 7am in the morning until 10pm. Covering you for all meals of the day and after work drinks, it is swarming with people elbow to elbow who are there for dinner and enjoying drinks in the main bar area. Being in the heart of the finance district isn’t the reason for its popularity, but the vast range of specials and packages they have to offer daily! From $5 happy hours to $20 set express lunch menus, enjoy the lap of luxury with very reasonable pricing.
This evening we got a preview of the new SHARE PLATE SET MENU which I believe will set you back $45 per person. The portions are perfect, as the experience revolves around the wine bar, so the menu appears to be designed to complement that.
DISH 1: The pide is crisped allowing definitive scoops into the pastey mush and full crisp chickpeas of house made homes. The nutty flavour has undertones and short bursts of sweetness from the mint and pomegranate. Nice starter that you can pick at throughout the course of the whole meal or in between drinks.
DISH 2: Warm Eggplant Caponata, Fior de Latte on a toasted baguette. So interesting as you know the eggplant salad of herbs, sweetened vinegar, capers and sweet/sour sauce is dolloped with what is essentially Gelato in its purest form. It’s a great looking dish with unlikely elements harmonizing well together.
DISH 3: Pumpkin Arancini, Persian Feta, Aged Parmesan and Thyme. Nice classic with the melted feta working as a sauce.
DISH 4: 'Torn' Hanger Steak, Rocket, Cherry tomatoes, shaved parmesan, aged balsamic vinaigarette. Just love the flavor in this lower belly cut that is enhanced politely with cheese and balsamic and aesthetic pleasing with the leafy greens and red. Hands down the favorite of the evening and the perfect climax after a three stage build up.
All tables were occupied this evening, and I counted 3 service attendants who surprisingly visited out table and the others surrounding ours at regular intervals. Tables were cleared within a fashionable timeframe and there was great precision in the delivery of meals in between each course. Amazing job.
Dark but classy casual atmosphere, we came here on a Groupon for 7 shared courses which made us pretty full.
The antipasto board was a little bit of a letdown as the Groupon mentioned it would be served with crispbread, pictured in the ad as bruschetta looking bread. Instead the whole board was served with 4 pieces of Tortilla chips. The prosciutto was a bit tough and dry but still would've gone down much better with bread not chips, as would the cheeses. Everything else on the board included dips tasted fresh and nice. 2.5/5. Two points taken off for negative aspects.
Ceviche- fresh, beautiful tasting tuna ceviche served with tomato. Can you ever go wrong when the fish is fresh and sauce is decent? 4/5
Duck cigars (ordered outside of Groupon)- two long cigar like rolls stuffed with duck and served with a yogurt sauce. Flavours okay, went well together. 3/5
Shredded lamb with eggplant - a little bit boring. Eggplant maybe could've better enhanced the dish if it wasn't mashed into a sauce leaving the shredded lamb to be quite bland and resultingly boring on its own. 2/5
Polenta fries: enjoyable thick cut slices of potato with hints of corn and rice flour? Went well with sauce 4/5
Meat ball thing: not much to say and cannot remember much of it 2.5/5
Cauliflower salad- surprisingly nice. Almonds were a nice touch to the dish, adding crunch. Most enjoyable salad dish I've ordered in a while. Who says you can't make friends with this salad? Haha 4/5
Two cake/brownie slices: rich flavour but a little on the powdery side of texture. Would have been a 4/5 regardless with ice cream. But they said the kitchen was closed hence no ice cream. So by itself the powderiness of it was more noticeable so 2.5/5.
Service: Friendly enough, but not amazing. Pretty easy to flag down a waiter and was offered water refill once during night. Offered take away for remaining food as we were so full! Also was nice enough to allow us to come around 45m late for our booking as a result of parking issues from night noodle market festival. 4/5
Cost: $33 per person including one glass of wine and duck cigars
Return? Probably won't return on this same banquet full price. But probably would come back for the ceviche, polenta fries and whatever else is on the menu..
Rating is based on price we paid! :)
The Monday special of $10 burgers with fries is attractive for the hip pocket. Beef, Bacon & Cheese burger with chips is generous in size and comes in a very nice soft bun. The patty is juicy even though it's well cooked. Hand cut rustic chips are great and have more real flavour than your stock standard frozen variety. Balcony seating on a nice day is a lovely vantage point for people watching and catching up on your Vitamin D.
Consistency is an easily overlooked but important ingredient of the success of a business, especially in the case of a newly opened restaurant. I visited Wolf Bar a while ago when it first opened. When I had the chance to revisit it recently, I wondered if it was going to be as impressive as the first time. The answer surely is yes. In fact the food, service and ambience exceeded the previous experience. My dinner companions were all duly impressed and couldn't speak high enough of the restaurant based on their experience.
For the starters it is extremely good value. The $98 groupon voucher entitles 4 diners a set menu of 7 courses as well as 25% of all alcoholic beverage on weeknights. That itself is tremendous value almost unheard of. When each course arrived at the table and passed the judgement of all four of us, we could hardly believe that such generous portions and deliciousness only set us back at $25 per head for the food.
We had a table right down the back of the restaurant and away from the bar area. It's dimly lit, elegant and cozy. The lounge style seating with large cushions is so comfy and homey. We settled in immediately after being seated and were completely immersed ourselves in each other's company. At no point we felt being disturbed by others or intruded by the staff. It's so cozy and relaxing, which doesn't necessarily happen in every restaurant.
The first course is a shared antipasto board with cured meat, cheese, olives, biscuits, and pickled vegetables. I love antipasto so this is right up my street. It was a generous portion for four people and all of us enjoyed a perfect start to the meal. The next three courses are bite size - tuna ceviche in avocado mousse, truffled polenta chips with Napoli sauce, and arancini balls filled with bolognese and mozzarella. The tuna is fresh, light and refreshing while the arancini is golden brown, crispy and oozed with goodness. The order of those three courses leads diners through a journey from fish market in Tokyo to rustic Sicilian countryside.
The main course is braised lamb with burnt eggplant, feta, mint and oven-dried tomatoes, accompanied by cauliflower almond salad. Needless to say the lamb is tender and requires no effort to pull apart. The cauliflower is not over-shadowed by the lamb and a winner in its own right, crunchy to start with then creamy when the sauce blends in. The roast almond flakes are icing on the cake.
Last but not the least, the dessert is a house made brownie with salted caramel ice-cream. The brownie is moist but the highlight is actually the ice-cream. As far as salted caramel goes, this is as good as it gets. You can definitely taste the saltiness and the ice-cream is so creamy and smooth. We couldn’t get enough of it.
What is worth mentioning is all alcohol is 25% off. My cocktail “The pearl” contains
vodka, pomegranate liqueur, cranberry. It looks sexy and tastes great. The same can be said for aperol spritz and MARGARITA. 4 cocktails, 2 beers and 2 glasses of wine only set us back at $96, which makes the whole meal $50 each. Not only the meal is of great value, but the quality food and attentive service are top-notch by all means. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Wolf Bar and won’t be surprise to find ourselves here soon again.
We tried the degustation menu and we both really like most of the food. I loved the zucchini bruschetta, I have never had something like this before. Unfortunately, we did not like the pork belly as the fat was too thick, might melt in the mouth but we both decided to give a miss. The pea salad, I think a bit too much brocolli, although it was quite nice. The last one was a surprise, it looked like chocolate ball but it was actually churos ball with chocolate which was awesome.
If Barrafina was the embodiment of modern, Spanish-influenced cuisine, The Wolf Wine Bar is its younger, wine-loving Italian cousin who recently moved in down the road. And I mean literally down the road; though The Wolf is far enough to separate it from its Barrafina and Contrabando relatives, it’s close enough to contemplate the possibility (and possible hilarity) of Executive Chef, Peter Varvaresso, running up and down the street in between venues, when needed.

The Wolf is a cosy lair that seats 60 and offers a great selection of cocktails and wines that go well with their tasty food offerings.
Kitchen maestro Peter Vavaressos always offers great food - think his other places, Contrabando and Barrafina.
The Wolf has a nice vibe and on a Friday from 5-7 it is Happy Hour. Being a Friday there were plenty of people enjoying themselves, relaxing and having a good time. Friday for a lot of people is the start of the weekend and coming to The Wolf and indulging yourself in their tasty meals would certainly be a good start to any weekend.
The Wolf Wine Bar is a trendy new bar located on the corner of Hunter and Bligh in Wynyard. The bar has only been open for a few weeks but is already a popular watering hole which also happens to serve up great food to watch all the drinks available. Grilled haloumi with honey and lemon. I can never down turn a good dish with haloumi and this was definitely no different, the grilled haloumi doused in sweet honey and lemon juice made for a delicious entree to start the meal off.

From the creators of Barrafina Tapas Bar and Contrabando comes 'The Wolf'. Located in the heart of Sydney's Financial CBD, The Wolf Wine Bar offers a selection of wines from the 'old world' and food inspired by Chef Peter Varvaressos' culinary travels throughout Europe. Offering an incredible selection of 'Bar bites' and 'Share plates' accompanied by a killer cocktail list we eagerly set up a visit to experience it for ourselves.
Excellent wine list, friendly service, cool chic fit out.
This bar has just opened and is already doing a great trade. We stumbled here after work for happy hour - $5 beers (it was actually a good lager) and $10 Mojitos. Cant complain about that!
Plus a great selection of boutique beers and an interesting pale ale on tap from NZ.
Food offerings were very nice - more of a share plate offering but plenty on offer.
Definitely making this my new local for drinks after work.
Love the wine wall up the back of the venue - very cool
Great new edition to the City Precinct. We came here for drinks on The Wolfs first Friday night with friends from work. Friendly staff (they offer table service), very good prices (especially during Happy hour) and the first venue in this part of town that seems to do cocktails properly. My Martini was perfect!
Try and get the seats on the outdoor deck, great spot.
Will def be back
The Wolf is a newly opened cafe on Hunter St. It draws on a lot of inner west favorites - healthy innovative food, organic juices, smoothies, herbal teas and organic coffee. The service was prompt and friendly and the eclectic (but stylish) decor was a nice break from the usual drone-like CBD cafe. I ordered sautéed mushrooms with ricotta salata on toasted ciabatta. At first sight the serving looked a little small but it was actually quite substantial. Their coffee is an organic blend from El Salvador, strong and earthy and I think probably the sort of coffee that would very much grow on you. The Wolf is also licensed as a wine bar and provides a welcome new option on the CDB dining scene.
One of the best pasta dishes I ever had was at The Wolf - the angel hair pasta with sand whiting was to die for
Great Happy Hour and the 'bacon fat' fries so good
My wife and I just got home from a relaxed night out. We don't come often in the city, and today we tried The Wolf for some drinks and food.
We followed some of the recommendations (mid priced, not the more expensive dishes/wines like some other places do) from our waiter and absolutely loved it. The wine was exactly as described and went perfect with our meal. So many venues base recommendations purely on prices and the waitstaff have no clue about the dish or wine.
I forgot to leave a tip and wanted to say thanks for the good service.
We will definitely come back!
We were rushed before a show at the Opera house, the kitchen was open at 5.30 BONUS. Then the service was freindly and efficient (a hard combination to get right), the ambience was quiet, darkish and comfortable and being a Monday not crowded. Was. better than the photos on their site.
To top it all off the wine was diverse both in variety and prices. And the food was fast and delicious. 5pm happy hour with 25% off the bottle +++
Highly recommend.
We got to the show on time.
Definitely recommend and will return.
