Ever feel like a quick warm bowl of noodles??? Then Come to Mr MENG located in Haymarket Chinatown!! They do the best noodles!!! Especially the spicy chongqing noodles which i absolutely love!!!
Actual rating 3.5/5
Mr Meng’s offers a wide selection of spicy noodle dishes amongst other Chinese dishes with non spicy options available as well.
I ordered the “chicken and mushroom noodles with golden soup” which was not spicy and was quite nice. Additionally, the soup wasn’t packed with msg/salt which was a win.
Food came quite promptly too.
Downside was that there wasn’t much meat or as much vegetables as I was expecting
Quality Chongqing noodles given the prime location. New restaurant in lvl3 market city, with modern interior - vegetables are fresh and sweet, with beef tenderly braised. Noodles are cooked well with flavourful stock broth; restaurant follows a solid recipe. Rice cakes were a sweet and tasty dessert - recommended !
Sweetest staff. Such a pretty place and the food is great! If you can’t handle your chilli well it’s best to say no chilli at all, if you ask them to just add a bit of chilli I don’t think they actually listen 😂 it’s either chilli or no chilli..
I can’t believe I haven’t done a review on this place yet! Probably because I didn’t take any photos lol. I’ve been here I think 3 times already this year and I’m not sick of it!. First things first, service was pretty apt and quick as we were seated to our table immediately. Mind you, this was Saturday lunch and I was surprised (and also glad) that we didn’t need to wait. We were each given a menu filled with various choices of noodles and even dim sums and deserts! The last time I came, I had hot and sour noodles and I wanted it again because I really enjoyed the soup.
A famous Chongqing noodles restaurant, and their boss is a very famous MC in China. Well I think you should try their iconic noodle with peas and pork mince, it is really good, I love the taste of the noodle, but the second most popular one - the hot and sour potato noodle is just so so. Snacks are quit good, especially the deep fried crispy pork!
It was my first time trying noddles at Mr Meng!
Customer service was spot on, however it wasn’t really busy the day I came here. Food arrived quickly as well.
The actual texture of the noddles was something I really did like. Noddle flavour wasn’t really special, but basically the way I wanted it.
I usually ask for super spicy for almost everything I eat but not this time so not sure how spicy they’re able to make it. Which means I need to come back here to eat again!
The hype around this place when it opened a year ago was ridiculous, the queue was so long, I just couldn't be bother waiting. Now a year later, the queue have disappeared, at least for mid-week dinner time. For anyone with extremely low spiciness tolerance, this is probably not the place for you. There was no indication on the menu whether the item is spicy or not, most things seemed to be. My friends had to ask the waitress & there were 2 things they could choose from, the DanDan noodles or cold noodles with shredded chicken. I got the Chongqing spicy noodles with pork ribs, which was quite decent in serving size, meat to noodles ratio, and overall taste. Even at medium spicy it was pretty hot (about just on my comfortable limit). The side dumplings were quite good & nicely presented.
We have recently discovered this new area above Market City called 1909 and it's filled with a mix of different restaurants. Among them, we spotted this Chongqing restaurant with an affordable menu for us to try some of their express meal.
We ordered 2 noodles and 2 entrees
Chicken Feet - It was a bit crunchy and chewy at the same time. The spiciness came slow so it just had a bit of a kick at the back of the throat which I think I would really enjoy with a pint of chilled beer.
12 cold skewers - For just under $9 !!!!!!!!! It was such a bargain considering that the 12 skewers contain beef slices, stripes, fungus, 4 quail eggs, and more ! I would definitely come back again for this light snack!
Sour Spicy Potato Noodles - A good balance between spicy and sour flavour to it, and the noodles had a nice chewiness and not too soft. I really liked how spicy it gets after a whole bowl of hot noodles
Beef Noodles - classic noodles with a nice chew to it as well. I particularly liked the tofu on top of the noodle which I think is the highlight of the meal. The beef was tender with a aroma to it. I personally would prefer this noodle but my friend loved the sour spicy noodles
I think this Chongqing restaurant is up on par when compared to others in town. I would for sure come back again for their tofu beef noodle because it was just amazingly silky smooth, which complimented nicely with the spicy noodles and savoury beef cubes.
It was such a great pre-CNY meal with friends, especially with the thoughtful service and clean space that they are having in Market City! Kudos for them!
Not bad at all if you make the right orders! I always go for the pork intestine noodle, which tastes way better than their glass noodle, and the deep fried crispy pork. This combination can make it a 4/5. Haven’t tried any other dishes but not too tempted according to its ratings. Will always go for this safe option. And don’t forget to ask for their stamp card, with a reward dish after 10 stamps!
deep fried crispy pork is superb! The batter is light, crispy and not greasy at all! 10 out of 10. Noodles are great, except the “medium hot” is a bit weak to me, but there is a chilli jar on the table for me to adjust the flavour. There is no line to queue. Service is fast. We come here when Market City is doing a Dine and Park for free promotion. Nice food now comes with perks! I’m happy!
The 2nd time I have been Mr Meng. No need to wait long for seating. Ordered No1 and No 3 noodles and 2 dishes: the Steamed Chicken in Chili Sauce (口水鸡) and the Deep Fried Crispy Pork (现炸酥肉).
The Chicken is really tender and tastes not too salty like other restaurants. Feel the freshness at the tip of your tongue. The sauce has just enough chili and a bit of vinegar makes it more tasty. The price $10.8 is even cheaper than some restaurants at suburbs.
From our opinion the Deep Fried Pork is the best we tried at Sydney so far. It deserves a 5 star and only costs $9.8, really a bargain.
The Wilson Market City free parking is definitely a bonus for your dining experience. Overall it is better than my first time trial and can be short listed.
Mr Meng is located inside Market city which is right above Paddy’s Market. Brought a client here for lunch, and she loved it so much!
Their noodles had just the right amount of spice, especially the beef noodle soup, so good for you on a cold rainy day! Dishes came out less than 10 minutes of us placing an order.
We cleaned our bowls!!
If I am ever back in Sydney again, would definitely come here again!
This was the alternative option instead of waiting in line for yum cha. Got seated quickly.
The food came out very quickly & we’re all very tasty, although I wouldn’t order the spicy pork ribs & rice dish as it was more like a stewed dish (it was still tasty though). The squid was also so tasty, definitely better than yum cha! Dumplings were also good.
Minus points are given because you have to pay at the counter (a bit weird as it is a dine in restaurant), it is hard to get the waitstaff’s attention & there should be more beef in the chongqing spicy noodle (but it tasted amazing & beef was so tender).
Olivia the staff was great
The other lady had an attitude
Food was scrumptious
Definitely value for money
Great environment, popularise price, popularise food, better than food court downstairs!
They do not hold back on the spice! So if you can’t handle the heat I would suggest getting less or no spicy. The portion size is quite small and l am not a big girl by any means. The non-spicy meals are very light and not strong on the flavours but surprisingly nice despite the simplicity of the meal. Their side dishes are full of flavour but again, small. There is not really any table service other than initially bringing you the water and cutlery and your meal. You need to go to the counter when you order and if you need anything during the meal too.
