Quite nice Japanese/Korean restaurant. Had the fried seafood yaki ramen noodle. It was good. Lots of different varieties of seafood. Noodles were well cooked and had good amount of chewiness. Friendly staff

Delicious food and the best service in west ryde. Visited here after a unsatisfying visit to the other Japanese restaurant nearby.

Highly recommended. Will visit again

Great sashimi and sushi, really good quality. Chicken karage is a bit poor, not enough flesh to batter. Sauce provided however with karage is awesome.

My wife and I are satisfied every time we walk out of Yatai since we began coming here in 2011. The food is consistently great and considering usual Japanese restaurant pricing, the prices are very reasonable for what you get (unlike Moeru over the road). Service is a 10/10 and we really enjoy coming here for a quick and cheap Friday night dinner!

Situated right next to the station, it is conveniently located and hard to miss. It's only small but that adds to the cozy feel. I found the bento boxes pretty good value - they were tasty and filling enough. You have the option of choosing between two types; A is croquette/dumpling and B is sushi/sashimi. I went with B without hesitation but turns out A is the better choice (much tastier!).

There are a couple more Japanese restaurants in the area (all run by Koreans though), but I think Yatai Bento is the most affordable. Wouldn't say the best in the neighborhood but still pretty good. Staff are sweet as well so all up an enjoyable experience.

With Yatai being so close to home, it's one of my usual dinner haunts and the only Japanese restaurant in the area that does Bento boxes for dinner as well as lunch (win!) The takoyaki is a nice starter but watch out, it's comes out hot. The yakidori (chicken skewers) is another starter to try; providing you like your chicken spicy. These skewers had a bit of a bite to them. Tonight, instead of my bento, I decided to try a different main and opted for the Korean Bulgogi. It was a very tasty moderately spicy dish. I consider it a 'light meal' compared to my usual bento box fare but a pleasant change. 9 times out 10 I walk out a happy person

Yatai Bento:

Quality and clean food. Really nice and flavoursome dishes.

Great variety of, predominantly Japanese, and Korean food.

Portions are definitely abundant, although some dishes are a little bit overpriced.

Relaxed and neat environment. Modern Japanese decor.

Friendly service.

Guaranteed a good feed.

Convenient, as it is directly neighbouring West Ryde train station and bus depot.

Another Bento craving led me to the local Yatai. Right next to the train station, it's a convenient place to have lunch once you've reached West Ryde Station.
I love their lunch specials. I always get the Sashimi and other protein combination for $11.90. On this occasion I chose the Teriyaki Chicken and Sashimi combination. The chicken was beautiful and well cooked. The beans in the chicken were a bit crunchy which is not my preference in a hot dish but it did add something different to the palette. The sashimi is fresh and consistent with my previous experiences.

I have been to Tatsuya a million times and because it's so consistent, I haven't really given Yatai much of an opportunity to shine.  I decided to give it a go and try its lunch special.  I walked in at 2pm and it was quiet, clean and filled with brown furniture. I was pleasantly surprised with my bento lunch box.  It was a good size and the beef was delicious! The sashimi was average.  I prefer Tatsuya sashimi but I guess when you factor in value than Yatai is definitely competitive.  The staff are lovely too. It left a good impression on me.  I'd go back here.  I love Japanese food!!! Prices: Lunch specials are $9.90 or $11.90.  Other mains are around $12-15 Wooden feel Sashimi with Beef, rice and cabbage salad

Wow better than expected. Forgot that its small and forget there isnt much ambience in here, the food was better than expected. The sushi was large in size and fresh, the teriyaki chicken tasted that much better and food came out pretty quick.
Prices are reasonable and they do have lunch specials.
Worth trying!!
