Review Bang Luck Thai Street Food - Sydney

Had Hainanese Chicken Rice *Chicken was not fully cooked *Rice was a bit dry *Sauce was only soy sauce * serve is tiny Price was like $13 ish. Felt like being cheated. Not sure about other dishes here. But if you want a good Hainanese Chicken, Hojiak at Chinatown is only steps away. More authentic food, better ambiance.

I came for first and last time to this place. I wanted to eat a pad thai and I thought it was gonna be a good place to do it. The portion was very little and the amount of tofu they put was ridiculous (around 5 tiny pieces) the food seemed was re heated and very poor quality, they charged me $14.40 and it was totally not worth it. I was hungry and I'm not a person who eat that much, but afterward I'm still hungry šŸ¤£. I left 2 stars because the taste was okey but everything beside that was horrible. I wish I could have my money and time back

i donā€™t usually leave reviews unless i encounter something special: the chicken green curry that bang luck served me last night was exactly that. iā€™d almost go as far to say the best green curry iā€™ve ever had. appreciate the work you guys are doing. thanks again.

Stir fried pipi and pad Thai were delicious šŸ‘

Ordered the stir fry seafood. Comes with rice and a big serving of seafood. Was a bit sweet but other than that a great place for Thai.

Really tasty cashew chicken stir fry; it wasn't too oily and was a decent portion for $12.

Massamum curry was not very good. It looked they the just put a contained they'd already prepared in the microwave. Flavours of curry weren't right, just generally tasted bad. Duck pancakes are quite nice, only saving grace of the restaurant.

The food is tasty and consistent. The staff is always friendly and there is rarely a wait. Bang Luck has become my favourite quick Thai place in the area.

Tried the oyster sauce noodles. Flavour was there. The vegetables weren't great (undercooked, not fresh and tough to chew) though which I left. I also tried the pad thai which I liked and would recommend to try.
Would recommend and come back to try something else.

Tasty massaman beef curry, well cooked tender pieces of meat. Only issue is sweet potato wasnā€™t fully cooked and the curry sauce was too sweet and lacked coconut milk.

The lane of culture in spice alley presents with many Asian cuisines, which corresponds to the Ambience it provides. It is quite busy. The service was quick but the staff were not really friendly. The pad thai was rich in quantity but not in flavour. However, the hokkien noodles was quite tasty but both dishes were overflowing with oil as depicted in the pictures. Quite unappetizing after a point.

Quick friendly service. This place is my go to at spice alley, have eaten here multiple times and the quality is consistent. Pad see ew is my favourite. Generous portion sizing, lots of veg and extras, not just noodles. Freshly made. You wonā€™t be disappointed. Super yummy!

Love the Pad See Ew! Meat is cooked nicely. Generous portions and great prices. Pad Thai is a bit boring compared to other places. I tend to prefer Pad Thai with wider noodles. Here they are thin almost like vermicelli.

I tried the Pad Kee Mao and it was so yummy! Highly recommend it. I loved the flavours and the spices. Was reminded of the noodles in India.

I had the roast pork belly with boiled egg and it was so delicious. the pork was well cooked and the serving amount was quite a lot for $13 in my opinion. Would definitely come back but not during lunch time because it's too busy.
A Guide For Your Appetite
A Taste of Asia in the heart of Sydney CBD

We saw this location on MKR and thought it was a pop up thing until we visited their website and found out that it has been there for a very long time.

My wife and I visited this location on the weekend and it was amazing. As soon as you go through one of few alleyways that lead to this, you think you have just gone through an alleyway in Hong Kong.

There are several cuisines here being that of Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Japan and China from what I can remember. There were so many cuisines and so wonderful smells; we were not sure what to try.

We decided to go with Thai as our first attempt and will definitely go back again to try the other cuisines.

Location ā€“ To get hereā€¦. It is near Central Park or nearby UTS. So you can drive or use public transport. We drove however parking is not fun. You can park on the street if you are lucky to find a spot. There are 2 secure parking locations within 10minutes walk from Spice Alley. Once you walk through Spicy Alley, you are hit with the wonderful smells. There are shared tables and chairs, so I would recommend (especially if you are in a big group) grab a seating area and then have someone go and order for you. If you are going during the Sydney summer, I suggest you try to find a shaded area because it does get very very warm in the sun.

Food ā€“ the aroma of the cooking is wonderful. Some restaurants you can even look through the glass to see how the chef is making the food. The food is delicious and fresh. We tried Thai Fried Rice and Pad Kee Mao. Nice and spicy, delicious and couldnā€™t fault it. The dishes were full of flavour and didnā€™t take all that long to makeā€¦ I would say approx. 10min.

Value ā€“ they are just about the same if you do a takeaway from any other Asian cuisine. I must admit the quantity isnā€™t all that much however I guess it is just an experience after allā€¦

The Negatives

- Cardboard plates and cutlery. I donā€™t know if all restaurants serve their food like this however our Thai restaurant had cardboard plates and cutlery. This was very annoying as it took some of the flavour and moist of the meal. Furthermore, the food was sticking to the cutlery. Not very pleasant.

- You must ensure you either have your debit card, credit card or Spice Alley card with you. This establishment does not accept cash. This is not so much a negative however luckily we read the website before we visited this establishment.

- Not all restaurants sell drinks. I know our Thai restaurant and the dumplings restaurant didnā€™t sell drinks so we had to go to another spot. But donā€™t worry all restaurants are within LIETERALLY two steps of each other.

- In the Sydney summer it gets very warm. Not much shade in this area. It would have been good if there were some sort of fans or water mist fans in this location.

- Parking is a hassle here.

I do recommended a visit here and I am looking forward to going back again to try other cuisines.

Vege pad Thai, the most common and traditional Thai noodles. Cannot complaint, itā€™s okay and not to sweet. The noodles are soft and sticky, not too oily which is good.

Compared with the Thai restaurants at Newtown, there the quantity is less but not as cheap as dishes at Newtown, and here, they all using plastic disposable containers.

Spice Alley is always an enjoyable place to go. This time I tried Bang Luck. I had the Thai Green Curry with beef and sampled my friends Pad Thai. The curry was full of flavour and spice and the beef was nice and thin. Generous in serving size as well. I also enjoyed my friends Pad Thai. I would go back!

Had the pad see ew with veggies and tofu. Overly sweet. Kinda gross. I was overly unimpressed with the quality of food. Had to go to KFC to eat instead.

Spice Alley Last night was super cute!Love the hidden spaces and the theme of this place.. The lanterns are super cute šŸ˜˜The food itself was basic but sometimes that's all you need! Ā What you would expect from other takeaway joints.Bonus of this is it's right next to Koi Dessert Bar šŸ˜€Cute for date night or with friends and would definitely be interested in checking out the other restaurants in the vicinity too!

This used to be my regular Spice Alley takeaway of choice, it was basically my saving grace during every exam period. However, I am sad to report that the food standard has fallen miserably. Previously, I would have given Bang Luck a solid 3.5 (their pad thai, holy basil pork on rice, crispy pork belly with rice and pad see ew used to be good). Now, however, for sentiments sake and the fact that their hokkien noodles (the regular one) is still pretty good, I won't rate it too low.

We were walking around in Chippendale and found ourselves in some strange looking alleyway and decided to go on an adventure . Little did we know it was quite popular and was a street food area. Anyway since we have come across quite a few Thai places, we decided to give Bang luck a go. We ordered the pad Thai, pad see ew and the Thai fried chicken. To our surprise the Thai dishes we had was quite delicious and enjoyable! The food price was also reasonable. I would recommend this to other travellers :) Cameron

This is one of the many food stalls in Spice Alley and I only ordered the starters from here. If you like mussels, I highly recommend the mussel fritter. I also tried the fish cakes which were also very good. I will be back to try the mains next time.
Food
I personally didn't like the take away meals I ordered from this place. Unfortunately, they were quite plain and no vegetables were thrown in the mix like other Thai restaurants do for the same dishes.

I ordered from Bang Luck through a delivery service (UberEATS) so I didn't get the opportunity to experience the service here.

What's not to love about Spice Alley? Tucked away in Chippendale's vibrant Kensington Street, Spice Alley offers a diverse range of authentic tasty Asian cuisine. It's the perfect place to go to on your lunch break or with friends and family if you are after a fantastic meal in a cosy, lively and well decorated atmosphere!

Located in Spice Alley among the plethora of Asian cuisine stalls, this one does a pretty good job with Thai food. There are wonderful smells coming out of all the kitchens so making a decision on what to try can be a dilemma.

Order at the counter and pay by card (they don't accept cash) and wait for you order number to be called. Service was friendly and my meal did not take long at all to ready. The Pad See Ew With Beef was tasty and not too oily as some can be. It had a nice soy flavour to it. Could've done with a bit more beef but was a good portion size nonetheless.

Bang Luck is just delicious! Fresh Thai food made in minutes. Fast enough to grab then dash quickly back to the office. They are always happy to adjust their dishes (e.g. Pad Thai) for a vegetarian diet which is great for me!

Spice Alley has a great atmosphere and the food at Bang Luck tastes great and reasonably priced. We had the Papaya Salad, Holy Basil and Crispy Pork. All the dishes are spicy but the person at the counter checks if spicy food is your thing. Would love to come here for dinner and try other dishes.

I went there after uni on a cold night with my friend. I couldn't decide what to order with so many options. I settled on the Ā tom yum friend rice ($12) as i knew that would usually taste good. And it did. It took a bit of time for me to get my food but they were quite busy. The dish was quite fragrant, which is something you want when getting tom yum anything. It was quite flavourful as well. It was a really nice winter warmer! However in other places you'd probably get a larger portion for the same price. But it was definitely tasty!

At the beginning of Spice Valley sits Bang Luck. Needless to say, they have amazing Thai street food! Try the Pad Thaiā€¦ Itā€™s incredible! So many fresh flavors make the traditional Pad Thai mouth watering and fulfilling

Solid hawker style Thai food, with great deep fried chicken and very tasty pad kee Mao. Good flavours. And if Thai isn't your thing, there's 5 other Asian food stalls to choose from!
Jason
Really disappointing

Pork in pad thai was pink and undercooked

And it was chilli

Why would you put chilli in a pad thai ?????

It is a sweet dish everywhere else

The chilli basil pork is actually ground pork, whereas most thai places the meat is strips.

Portion sizes are quite on the lower end.
Princess_Porky
Pretty tasty. Probably the preferred stall from what I've tried so far. The mango sticky rice wasn't great but the pad see ew was delicious.

Hidden in the shadows of Central Park, Spice Alley is a wonderful place to hang out with some friends for dinner. Make sure to get there early (6pm is a good time), or you'll be stuck looking for a seat! It is also a mistake to get a tray. There's no place to dispose of them and you're stuck having it fill up half of your tiny table. So heed my warning and Do. Not. Get. A. Tray.

Pad See Ew is normally my go-to order at Thai restaurants, and it becomes the barometer by which I judge a place. Bang Luck was frankly, bang on the money with their Pad See Ew. I am a stickler for tradition and normally go with Chicken Pad See Ew, but as my friends and I had already ordered two chicken dishes, we decided to take a leap of faith and go with the beef. And boy, were we glad we did. The sauce was flavoursome, the beef was juicy and the lime provided just the right amount of acidity of offset the saltiness. I don't know about the other dishes on the menu, but I'd definitely recommend the Pad See Ew.

Note that Spice Alley is cashless, so don't forget your card, or if you have cash, load up one of their prepaid cards and use that.

Through to the back streets of Sydney there you'll find 'Spice Alley' tucked away with an array of Asian street food.

The smell sucks you in to choose your so desired food of the night. We picked the Thai at 'Bang Luck' after dealing with the messy lines and people trying to push you about to get there belly full!

Tasty food!

The Thai option in Spice Alley, Bang Luck certainly looks the part, with lots of colour and great mounds of rice. We ordered the Thai mussel fritters and fishcakes but were a bit underwhelmed by both. The texture of the fishcakes wasn't light or springy, and the mussel fritters seemed to be more batter than mussel and were overcooked. Both were slathered in sauce. Hopefully things will improve with time.
