Review The Great Dragon Traditional Hotpot - Sydney

Always go to this place whenever I want to have Chinese hotpot. You can literally smell the aroma of the broth from the entrance and their dipping sauces are really tasty with fresh ingredients. The wagyu meat combo is definitely a good pick and also they have many different types of noodles, veggies dishes which help to balance your appetite.

Great Hotpot Restaurant here in Haymarket! The soup bases were all delicious and there are many kinds of meat and vegetables to choose. Prices were quite average for hotpot restaurant and there were discount 22% too for cash payments after 8.45pm. Overall great restaurant with grrat service with reasonable prices.

After my favourite Korean BBQ restaurant wouldn't let us in we decided to try hotpot. This place is incredible! The staff are so lovely and the service was super quick! We tried the spicy/tomato/mushroom soup which was red hot but really tasty. The sauce bar had probably 25 to choose from and you could get whatever you liked. Cannot wait to go back šŸ„°

Rating for customer service. Which is actually close to nothing. Good food but bad reception. A bit expensive, the least they can do is give some reply. A for a bowl . The guy replied take it yourself. Thatā€™s also okay, asked for water. He said ok and never showed up. Can go once for the food, but be ready to be treated as if you are eating for free.

A great place to try traditional Chinese hotpot. Make sure you have enough time (2-3 hours) and have enough money. Because it's a costly place.

The meat was good but the chicken soup base was terrible way to salty, we asked for a new one but have a feeling they just gave us the same one. A lot of items we ordered were missing (noodles, fish balls and some meats) which was very disappointing especially because we were there on a Saturday afternoon, how does that happen? compared to other hot pot places a bit pricy. Also the staff can be a little bit rude.

This is a really unique dinning experience. Great fun and goid food.

Unfortunately the cleaness and quality of food fell below expectations. The food and pot soup are OK, I wouldn't say it is the most authentic and tastiest, but it's fine. Seafood e.g. octopus are not fresh, people can tell, please don't service overdue seafood, it's disgrace. The place/table/cutleries honestly look dirty and not hygienic - this factor contributes heavily to the rating given. Lastly the price tag for each dish is dear. Sorry Great Dragon, I would not return.

I love the feel of this restaurant and the detail of the fitout as you walk in. Itā€™s a great concept being able to pick 3 different time of soup flavours for your hot pot. The food here was delicious, but I think itā€™s really suited for up to 4 guests as each table is quite tight. We staff were very helpful in translating the specials in Chinese into English for me. It is quite a pricey restaurant, Almost $100 per head without alcohol.

The short-hair female cashier who was in shift at 8:16 pm, 26 Oct 2019 had terrible attitude. Food was average. No alcohol available because some waiters/waitresses didn't have RSA.

We went here to have a hotpot lunch in the raining day, the environment is Chinese feels, We feel disappointed that the space is not big enough which is very hard 5 of us to have seat. We have ordered the hot pot with tomato, mild spicy and white soup base. The meat comes with the plate which is very fancy (dragon boat plate). The overall food is okay, however I think it is overpriced that is not getting value of the food. The staffs are friendly, but the location makes us hard to communicate with them. Might not return back when travelling Sydney again.

We walked into this restaurant at 3:30pm, 80% of the tables were empty, when I mentioned that we have 4 adults and 2 kids, the reception told me she can gave me the 6 seats table, but there is a $288 minimum spend. I said yes because the kids were tired. But the minimum spend is very unreasonable. The food was average and pricey, 2 pieces dried noodles cost us $6.8, they described it as hand made noodles but it is not. You can easily pay less than $5 to get a big pack from the Chinese grocery shop. They are advertising for they are supplying the top quality food to the customers, but from the photo you can see, the oil they used to deep fried the meat is old and dirty, they even donā€™t change the oil regularly. We paid $293.80 for our meal with nothing fancy, no seafood. The eftpos surcharge of 3% is totally a ripe off. Will definitely not recommend this restaurant to the others, and we wonā€™t come back again.

A very traditional and delicious spicy hot pot from China. Always pack with people and long waiting line at the front door when lunch and dinner time. Item were fresh, but they were so expensive! Our bill for lunch is $170 for only two people, cash price; 3% surcharge for any card payment, including savings.

Food was pretty average and overpriced . The surcharge for efpos is ridiculous (3%). By adding the 3% surcharge on their customers to make them pay by cash itā€™s not a good idea . Will not come back as there are lots of better hotpot options out there in cbd.

Horrible service, waiter yelled at a customer because he kinda blocked the entrance of kitchen. Food was ok while way to pricy, also ridiculous surcharge even debit card - 3%.

Absolutely loved the food here, very traditional style interior design.

I've found the broth of the hot pot to be very similar to those in Chongqing, China which is fantastic.Ā
Can't fault this place, fresh food, wide variety and unique dishes.

Only downside is that its on the pricier side - but wouldn't mind paying for something close to authentic.

Advise for everyone , select 11:30 am in weekend or after 1:30pm , you donā€™t need to wait too long.

First recommend for more than 3ppl is 1 metre lamb
My favourite is their beef with caraway.
Third is egg dumplings, even though they are too small ..... are they really handmaded or just bought from other shop is a question

Little spicy is really enough for me, their pot is vey oil , please order more veggies.

Pricy compared with other hot pot and internal decoration is so normal, looks not that clean but food is tasty! Still will visit again with friend especially in this horrible weather.

Wait for long and finally,Ā they are on listed on Zomato.

Ambiance 4/5
Well, its whole decoration is exactly the same as its chain restaurants in Sichuan, China. Remind me of my hometown.

Price 3/5
(See too many people complain about their pricing, but..)If you compare the price here with that of in Sichuan, that making no sense. They are a brand new restaurant and they spent a fortune on decorations, materials, staff, training, etc...And it is Sydney, the price is supposed to be higher... Hopefully, they can give a discount in the future when their revenue covers their initial investment.Ā

Food 4.5/5
Being a 'SIchuaner', I might have the right to judge whether it hot pot is authentic or not. Actually, it is quite authentic and follows the soul of Sichuan hot pot. But... I do think they over-decorate the dishes which might the reason why it is costly.

This restaurant is a franchise of a famous brand in Sichuan. However, the restaurant is not worth the hype. Approximate wait time 1.5hr+, and the food is very pricey, yes I mean very priceyĀ - $300 for 3 people, an unreasonable price. In addition, the food doesn't taste any good. The only good thing here is the hot pot broth, which gives you a spicy but not too overwhelms the taste. $36 for this Barbie with just a few pieces of beef on a bowl of ice is a rip-off.

This is a newly opened Sichuan Chinese hotpot place. I want to try here because I saw a very long queues as always. Foods is below an average and also too pricey if compare with the quality. Staff were inattentive, we have to keep asking to follow up the things we had ordered. One more disappointed thing is they charged for a can of sesame oil (they put it on every tables) without any notice, 2 cans for $6. Such a very ridiculous thing ever. Because we didn't opened and eat it. They asked to pay for a bill without checking that we have it or not. Unprofessional at all. This place will be a one visited only. I paid for $15x with this worse meal. Nothing interesting here and no outstanding at all too.

A fabulous hot pot restaurant specialising the perfect Sichuan chili kick šŸŒ¶šŸŒ¶šŸŒ¶ This place will be be piping hot this winter. A very very popular joint, the wait-time for a table is approx 1.5hrs+šŸ˜±

Sichuan style hot pot is something that many Chinese show great fondness towards. It's a great way to enjoy a meal with friends, particularly because of the lively atmosphere - there is something special about cooking your own food in one big pot.Ā . It's pungent fragrance of chilli oil and Sichuan pepper is the soul of this particular style of hot pot, and it's scent can be detectedĀ from miles away. If this is you cup of tea then without havingĀ to travel to China,Ā Great DragonĀ is one of the placesĀ you can enjoy authentic Sichuan hot pot in Sydney.

The food here is amazing! The quality of the dishes were quite good and definitely worth the price. Iā€™d recommend the barbie meat, although its expensive the meat is very tender and the marbling is very nice! Another plus was the size of the pot and how you can choose to get three flavours (stock, tomato and spicy) which really gives you a variety to try.

There is a good variety of condiments to choose from when making your sauce. If you are unsure of what to choose, Iā€™d suggest peanut sauce, garlic, sesame oil (and chilli sauce if you like a kick)! There are many different dishes to choose from, however the prices are not very cheap, but as I said before, it is worth it.

One downside is that there is definitely a language barrier. If you donā€™t speak Mandarin it will be slightly harder to communicate with staff, and the menu has rough english translations which donā€™t really explain what each dish is.

Another issue is the popularity of the restaurant! Since it is a very good restaurant you will always have to wait at least 1/2hr to get a seat. For me, I waited almost an hour and I arrived there at 5:30pm! However they did say that if you go there at 5 then you wonā€™t have to wait in line.
