A dear friend recommended Industry Beans on York street to try out their food and delicious coffee. To celebrate the start of a new job we decided to treat ourselves one morning and found ourselves in this sleek, and incredibly modern establishment. Walking in you are greeted with the superb grey, white and pale wood tones of the decor. The cafe is set up in true minimalist form, with subtle accents, and little hints of green throughout the dining space. The barista’s zone is equipped with exceptionally high-tech looking apparatus’ and really gives me the feeling of getting coffee from the future. It’s a cafe without the loud scraping and tapping of the coffee maker, and the dirty brown aprons covered in coffee grounds. It’s seriously beautiful - so much so we found ourselves staring at the front bench wondering how we could equip our future kitchen in a similar fashion.
This smallish cafe is an off shoot from their cafe in Melbourne. It’s located on York Street and was quite busy on the morning I visited. There was a slight wait for a table and was kindly informed I could wait or takeaway if I needed to get something quicker. I opted to wait till a space became free as a friend recommended I try the breakfast here.
The service was excellent and friendly. A space was found for me on the communal table and water brought out to me. I ordered a Mocha and Fruit Sashimi. The coffee was smooth and perfect for the start of my day. The fruit was an elegantly presented dish. Made up of papaya, wattleseed rice crisp, cold brew panna cotta, strawberry gel, watermelon, berries, and coffee caviar. Each component made this dish sing. It’s best to eat a mixture in each mouthful to get the full effect. Very much enjoyed this fresh summery dish. It was light but filling at the same time.
Definitely one to visit for something not usually on the breakfast/brunch menu.
Their service is excellent and the coffee is not bad. I don’t know why their score is low
Choose your bean and have it your way. The service here was really good. The food was slightly overpriced for portion size but the flavours were all there. I would definitely come back to try other food and coffee beans on the menu. The other down side is that the eating area is small and the lack of staff can leave you waiting a little longer than usual.
I’ve been there three times now for coffee, love their coffee!! tried the bubble cup today and loved it as well! however their limited cabinet food and menu means i don’t really want to eat there. I will always be back for coffee though.
Coffee roaster comes from Melbourne and now sits in Sydney CBD. Industry Beans, as an coffee expert, their coffee won't let you down. And the staff there know the stuff they are doing, so just tell them what kind of coffee you like and trust their recommendation. Compared with coffee, food has a limited option with a relative high price based on the portion. However, all the dishes plated up beautifully and instagrammably. My scramble egg on toast was tender and milky. I'll definitely come back for coffee.
Very aesthetic cafe with very good lighting because of the large windows. Great to take photos. The coffee was also very fragrant and good quality. Omelette was also delicious. The waiter was also very friendly!
Food: 3/5
Experience: 5/5
The staff here are super friendly and helpful - they explain the coffees that they have very well and helps with recommendations as well. The food was alright. The baguette was really tough but the beef inside was very good. The fruit sashimi was very beautifully presented too.
Very strong coffee game with some equally delightful breakfast/brunch options.
The coffee burger was pretty good, not much so on the notes of coffee but otherwise it’s still a good burger and the course grind really shines here as you can taste each strand of beef.
The omelette is a hearty meal itself. The polenta well they’re top notch and seasoned well enough to be had on their own.
Perhaps the dessert could be avoided but it does look so pretty...
Another new spot to add to the Saturday “where to have lunch” list!
When Industry Beans arrived in Sydney, coffee enthusiasts were excited to get in there fast. Although there’s plenty of specialty coffee shops around Sydney, we know this place does a good brew, having had a popular store in Melbourne already. Sydney’s store is located in an old stone heritage building on York St, not far from the QVB in the CBD. A modern interior with a clean set up, as you enter you’re met with a long bench showcasing all their coffee gear – and a large La Marzocco coffee machine.
Just went to this spot to grab some food and coffee.
I ordered a flat white, an iced long black and a breakfast roll.
It’s called ‘breakfast roll’ but it’s not a roll to me😂.
The food was delicious, the sauce in it was different. Must have a try.
I like their long black, it was balanced.
But some bubble emerged on the surface of the milk foam. Which made the latte art look not that beautiful. But the taste was good anyway.
I bought a cup with their logo on it. I just really in to these kind of simple&cute cups. Love it.
Check out their modbar coffee machine as well. You cannot see that type of coffee machine very often.
The written menu has far more options than what is on the wall. For example, tea!
The written menu also includes dietary advice like vegetarian, vegan, dairy free, nut free, and of course gluten free.
Quite a few items are gf by default which is great, no space for mix ups there. There's a lot which can be adapted including some burgers.
Despite the higher price for coffee ($5.20 for milk, $4.80 for black) it's a popular place.
Their coffee is roasted in Fitzroy, Melbourne. I didn't expect that but is kind of cool.
The coffee taste is nice, I got a flat white.
The staff are really friendly, lovely.
There are three tables outside to dine in the sunshine or shade.

Pandan waffles!!! Soft bubbles with a unique sweet and citrusy taste with the blueberry gelato adding extra sweetness, but the fresh blueberries and strawberries are evening it out. The sesame brittle was also nice adding a nice slightly bitter and crunchy taste to bring out the other flavours.
I loved the native grains too. Nice and chewy it had the soft crunchy elements in it, while the taste was both sweet and salty. The pumpkin sauce not only added a bright splash of colour to the dish but also produces a creamy texture and a good subtle flavour to bring out the seeds. The avocado mousse blended in very nicely with the sauce, seeds and tomatoes, it was very discreet but like the pumpkin sauce it enhanced the flavour of the grains.

How good is this place!! All details, big and small, are taken care of. The coffee is worth every sip of it - smooth, delicately roasted and served at perfect temperature. The food menu is concise but every meal on the menu is worth attention. Special alert - peanut brownie is divine. Iced chocolate done properly - you get a glass filled with milk and ice cream and pour liquid chocolate into the glass. Perfect experience.
I love the interior design with clean interiors and a beautiful decorative ceiling.
Great friendly service. Don't forget to download the app and start accruing the loyalty points!
Nice cafe on York Street opposite the Grace Hotel. We had the Porcini Nest and the IB Fried Chicken Burger. Extras were a bit dear for what they were; 1 x rasher of wood smoked bacon for $5. Extra cheese and bacon on the burger for $6 and the hand cut chips that were more like wedges; but not crispy at all. Coffee was good, though. Double ristretto was clean with a lot of flavour. Served with carafes of chilled sparkling mineral water.
Thanks IB team for a lovely breakfast for my Saturday morning quality time. I enjoyed my time there while eating your delicious breakfast suggested to me by your friendly staff. Love your cafe interior, simple, clean, bright and contemporary. Everything I ordered was great. Definitely will be back and bring my friends here next time. 👌
Elevated brunch is certainly one way to describe Industry Beans - some of the dishes look like they come from a fine dining restaurant! Flavour wise, backed up also - we had the mushroom Porcini nest, and Angus Wagyu burger with added polenta chips. Both great flavour, however the polenta chips were abit on the salty side. Not the cheapest brunch overall however but very nice.
Very beautiful coffee shop from a Melbourne toaster. They run an all white Modbar with matching grinders, and the rest of the Nordic looking place is all light gray and blonde woods. Beautiful ceilings and vaulted windows.
Coffee is good, though I only had a flat white (using their Fitzroy blend). They also serve a brunch menu which looks very tasty. The place also sells an assortment of coffee beans (and will offer to grind them), as well as canned and bottled cold brew.
Ambience is great with easy EDM musing and a mix of people having conversations and reading.
I can see why this place is always busy. Tasty coffee, good quality food, lots of food options, friendly service and welcoming interior. Will definitely stop by again if I’m in the area.
