Sunday, all day between 20°c ~ 25°c, Waterfront, Walking trail, Birds.... and good food / coffee. Life sorted, for a day at least. Food description....
Dish 1 - Pasta with homemade tomato sauce mixed grated pork sausages and fresh mozzarella cheese topped with Italian herbs
Dish 2 - Big Boy Burger made with hand pressed well done beef patty placed on top of loads of crisp baby spinach and caramelized onion seasoned lightly with mayo and mozzarella cheese accompanied with a generous side-bed of shoestring fries
My favourite breakfast spot. Beside the glistening river and a wonderful playground, Armory wharf is a family friendly must visit in Sydney Olympic Park. For starters I usually call for the big breakfast or an eggs Benedict if I miss their breakfast serving time (opening-11:30am). For lunch I always rush down to the pasta section, for an exotic taste to the tongue the chilli prawn linguine is a must (might be a bit spicy) but only available in summer/spring. For winter/autumn I order the crab pasta which is also never a let down. overall, the salads and kids meals at armory are also the best I’ve ever had. With good food comes good scenery which is a definite bonus despite the inconvenient location.
This cafe has been on my list for years! I live fairly close by, and the fact I had never been definitely didn't sit well with me. For a lazy Sunday brunch we headed to the wharf, and ordered the corn fritters along with the vegetable frittata. We also ordered some iced tea and a fresh smoothie too. First thing, the serving sizes are quite substantial! We really struggled to finish the fritters. The fritters were quite tasty and the greens certainly lightened up the otherwise heavy corn fritter itself. The smoothie was fresh though a little sweet for my liking. I also wished they had house iced teas - but really not a major issue. The frittata was tasty and well seasoned, and the sweet potato chips were a wonderful accompaniment to them too. The salad was average but still went well with the warm frittata. Service here is friendly and the food was brought out to us quite quickly too. The spot is really quite nice and there is a lovely walk around the cafe too. It's quaint and fairly quiet which is great for a lazy brunch :)
Looks just as good as it tastes! Service is great but a bit slow. It's a nice location for breakfast or lunch on a sunny day. Everything seems fresh and smells good
Just came for a quick coffee and a cake on a Sunday morning but lots of groups and families enjoying big breakfasts with the lot! Such a beautiful, serene location next to the river! Popular so you might like to book!
Nice restaurant in one of Sydney's best parks. Very kiddie friendly and lots of gluten free options if you need them. Can't beat the corn fritters. Only criticism is the outdoors area isn't great if it's wet which cuts down their tables a bit. That being said they can handle a big service pretty well.
I love this place. Sat by the window with a girl friend. I ordered the chilli prawn pasta, which was delectable. Fries were yum too, but they came out cold, so we had to ask them to reheat it up for us.
The entire atmosphere and the park outside is just gorgeous for a lovely day outing.
It seems the food has definitely improved since the last time I've been here! Our schnitzel was moist and juicy, the outside was crispy, French toast was delicious, chips could have been better.. Service is is fast, waiters are friendly..
Pros: Great place for lunch on a sunny day, bike hire near by, on the river.
Cons: Finding parking could be a little hard on weekends.
Great place for lunch on the weekend - we've been here several times, often after cycling in the area. It's by the water so you get good views and a nice breeze if you're outside. The serving sizes and generous and the service is pretty good. They are busy and the food comes/turns over fairly quickly. They charge 10% extra for weekends and public holidays, so just know that when looking at the menu prices. I also quite enjoy their housemade sodas, which are good in a jar serving.
Food always delicious always busy an excellent variety of dining options parking is always a nightmare. Dropping off on the weekend the only option. Staff pleasant.
Corn fritta with avocado, poached eggs and bacon #yumm and some delicious cherry like jam that worked so well with everything. The ambience here was great (even with a jail close by lol), just chilled and right on the water. I can't really fault it....except that the staff weren't overly helpful but that's about it....oh and the sides are super cheap. You don't need to pay $5 just for avocado, like most cafés lol
Went for breakfast on a Thursday, not to busy but great atmosphere. Staff are really friendly and the food is amazing. Had the Huevos Ranchos breakfast, adding on the chorizo and grilled haloumi and my partner had the traditional breakfast, both servings where very generous. Only suggestion would be fresh squeezed juice other than that great food and great coffee well worth the drive.
I use to come here before all the rennovations were done nearby. Now it is always completely packed and booked out. It's location is hard to find as it sits behind Silverwater jail. What they have done with the area is fantastic.. providing BBQ spots for families, a massive playground for kids and of course the already exisiting armoury cafe. The menu has a decent range of options... nothing that really stands out as must try but the view is great of Parramatta river. My suggestion is to book ahead and also get there early as parking around here gets full very fast and you could end up having to walk from across the road of the jail back to the armoury if theres no parking. Its a great location to bring the family to dine and enjoy the area. Such a hidden gem in my opinion.
Bring warm clothes if you're seated outside, and a pair of sunnies for the glare off the river in the morning. This place can get breezy and chilly on a cool morning.
That said, the food is decent - if a little pricy on weekends. The French toast is a reasonable representation - it looks and taste OK without impressing or disappointing. The Portuguese Baked Eggs and the Huevos Rancheros however were hearty, hot and deliciously spicy! Perfect for that cool morning.
The coffee is like the French toast - it didn't impress, but it wasn't the worst coffee either. Just needed more intensity.
The crowd were chatty and casual with a lot of bike riders taking their morning coffee and breakfast. It wasn't so noisy that you couldn't concentrate. Just enough to give a morning buzz to the ambience - but don't come here to relax and contemplate.
Ultimately - if you're in the area, this cafe is a perfectly acceptable option (not that there is that many) - but I wouldn't make a special trip out here.
Here’s another throwback post. We’ve been to this cafe a few times now, because it’s the only place in the Sydney Olympic Park area to eat at on the weekend. Like seriously, it just dominates through lack of competition...Overall, this is a nice summer spot for lunch if you’re in the Olympic Park area and want to enjoy some waterviews. It seems to be getting more and more popular (huge children’s playground nearby), so perhaps think about booking.
"Oh my gosh we are being spoilt today"!!!! These were the words that my eldest little bull exclaimed as we arrived at the Armory Wharf Cafe carpark. The big little bull could see rolling green hills full of playground after playground; he could see the Parramatta river where big river cats and lots of rowers were going up and down; he could see loads of very fast cyclists for him to annoy, and he also spied a camouflage cafe! This is all part of the Blaxland Riverside Park, and this is little bull heaven! The Armory Wharf Cafe (the camouflage cafe) is housed in a modern building right on the Parramatta river, so you can almost spit on the rowers and the river cats as they zoom by. There are both inside and outside eating areas, with the outside being covered by a camouflage net. Right behind the cafe are those rolling green hills with the amazing play grounds. Also right next to the cafe is a cycle lane where very very fast cyclists zoom by - so this would be time for the warnings....
I popped down to a waterfront cafe for a dose of vitamin D with a mushroomy all day breakfast. The Armory Wharf Cafe , in Blaxland Riverside Park, overlooks Parramatta River and is next to a huge all ages playground. The park also has walking / bike trails so it gets quite busy on weekends and school holidays. I prefer to visit through the week when there’s a bit of sunshine and I’m in need of a little ‘time out’ from the office (although I am tempted by the variety of sweets on the dinner menu!)
The Armory Wharf Cafe is a favourite with Sydneysiders, so you can expect a little crowd at any given time (it’s probably best to make a booking for lunch or dinner!).
The Cafe has an interesting menu, with influences from around the world. My friend ordered the pork with green rice, a mango chutney, and roasted cherry tomatoes...
Brunching by the water on a gorgeous day at a local cafe, Armory Wharf Cafe , with my best bud and soaking up the sunshine, just blissful. One of the main reasons I love to come here is the Blaxland River Park Playground adjacent to this child friendly cafe :) The only downfall of the cafe is it gets a little chilly if you’re sitting outside on a cold day (they don’t have heaters) , but they have quilts if you need to rug up! Traditional English breakfast - scrambled eggs w/ bacon, tomato, mushrooms & thick sliced casa panotte toast $17.50 Sides: Armory housemade baked beans (with bacon) $3 Corn and zucchini cakes served w/ smoked salmon, dill yoghurt sauce, avocado, tomato salsa and roquette $17.50 I get this every time I come here! Haha I’m a creature of habit when it comes to good food. Two generously sized corn and grated zucchini cakes layered with roquette. The highlight of the dish is the dill yoghurt that complements the
Another dish that grabbed my attention, Mediterranean ricotta hotcakes with pistachio, rosewater, berry compote and sweetened ricotta ($13). With a little more time to kill we decided we would share a dessert. I left it up to Josh to decide, and my fingers were crossed he would choose the hotcakes. Instead he decided on the dessert tasting plate ($11).
Overall Ryan and I were both very happy with this place and our dishes that we received and definately wouldn't mind coming back again, possibly on another weekday when we get the chance.
Great place to go after a easy ride through the park grounds. Menu was simple and all skinned good. I have had several dishes there and all were pretty good. Its a very relaxed place to eat and Emmott the views.
Great experience :) Will be back. The location is beautiful and the staff were lovely. While I was not overblown by the food- it was honestly quite average and very overpriced, the atmosphere makes this place a nice retreat to have a cup of cofee or tea.
I read all the bad reviews after I sat down...oh dear I thought...but I was pleasantly surprised by the wait staff :) And I really appreciated it as I was with two small children who, while well behaved, just need a bit more attention with things like navigating the pram etc. I was helped through, the boys got special cutlery, cups and plates; everything worked well. Babycinos were excellent and came with half dozen little marshmallows; my soy flat White was good enough. The sun was out and the setting was wonderful, sitting outside near the river. The food was good enough-I had the sweet potato and corriander cake with bacon. The cakes could have been more tasty (maybe corn fritters works better?) but I got lots of bacon and the boys liked their fish and chips. We all liked the brownie haha. Overall I was happy with the experience and I'd return. I like to write positive and negative reviews here so it's not always negative ones as I love Urbanspoon!!!
Very popular on Sunday - wait staff were busy polite and professional. Wher able to get us a table without a booking. Food was Ok compares to price. Will be back for sure.
A great place to waste the day. Assuming you have a Sunday morning booking, or are an incredibly lucky walk-up, you are well on your way to a satisfying meal.
Servings are generous and cooked to satisfaction while you watch the river, joggers and the world pass you by.
You won't leave feeling disappointed.
Great location, food and prices. On a bright sunny Sydney day this is the perfect location for breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea. Service is often inconsistent and somewhat amateurish, but if you aren't too demanding as a customer you shouldn't notice it too much.
