Review Dooleys Lloyd's Bistro - Sydney

Don Chiou
Went to the new Lloyds Bistro upstairs in the Upper Quarter for lunch today, and it was 'okay'. The arrangement of ordering meals around the corner from the lobby area is just... weird?? But the drinks bar is around the corner, and then food comes out from the behind big doors mystery cooking area? Play area was ok, nothing exciting but the kids enjoyed it enough, so I guess it works. Food wise, came out at reasonable timeframe but quality wise, it was fairly ordinary for the price. The Roast Beef was ok, but the gravy was really... thin... lacked much flavour, very flat. 3 slices of roast was ok, good sized slices, and reasonable amount of vegetables. The adult fish and chips were 2 pieces of fish, but while crispy, were also very very oily. Passable. The kids portion was $3 less with 1 less piece of fish, no salad, no lemon (they're meant to get a slice of lemon with theirs too!), so it was a bit sad. It was fine if you don't actually have expectation on a quality bistro meal. Kind of like a mid-range pub lunch, but priced a little bit more for the roast than you might find at the pub.

Really good food I recommend if you are in the area

Had a beef burger and a penne alla genovese. Both dishes were great in tastes. The beef burger's patty was a quality piece of meat. The meaty texture, with the lightly grilled brioche burger, the dish was very good. The penne alla genovese was very creamy. It's flavoury that you can indulge in it to the end. It was value too being a member of the Dooleys club. I wasn't always impressed by the food here, but today was an exception.

Great place for a feed. Very good bistro food selection at very affordable prices. Good for families and kids as they have a play area.

Gotta get lucky here, half the time the food is good but the other half not good at all, also with the pricing some are affordable but some are very expensive.

Ordered lamb souvlaki, Korean fried chicken, BBQ chicken pizza I have to say the quality has gone done in general. Lamb is tasteless and tough Fried chicken is OK. But texture is poor The pizza was average but better than the other stuff. Had a chat with the manager and changed to the grill barramundi. It was much better than the lamb. The manager was able to sort out the issue. Good service. Other waiters were very helpful as well.

Great dining environment with comfortable spatial seating and aesthetic designs. Suitable for all ages. Has a a small play area for younger children. Menu and taste of the food was of a standard pub style nature with prices slightly higher than a standard pub. Food was served very effeciently and presented very well. Covid safe practices were welll in place. Pity that the service on a Friday was very below average.

The food sucks.  The prices are the highest that I've ever seen at a club, more than most pubs and restaurants and you can get better food for lower prices and have harbour views at the Kirribilli Club.  The $24 chicken tikka sticks were just two of them, chewy tasteless chicken with some pieces of cucumber and some sauce, not even bread.

Returned recently having not dined here for many years. Ordering is now much easier and the food was better quality. The pizza ( not generally a pizza person) was a lovely thin crust and was quite surprised by its quality. Drinks at club prices are always a bonus.

Service is usually top notch here and the price is above average for pub food, food quality probably has a lot to be desired, but it’s better than before. <br/><br/>I do recommend if you’re having food here the roast of the day and the burgers. Pork loin and sloppy joe weren’t great.

Lloyds Bistro AKA Dooley's<br/><br/>It's been a while since I eat and Dooley's and it really disappointed me. The food has not improved since the last time that I came to Dooley's and that's about 3 years ago. I admit it's still more affordable than other restaurants but needs more improvement on food. Despite that the service has gone better, the cashier smiles as you approach to her and try to have a conversation with you.<br/><br/>They still have their specials and it's still 10 dollars, that's a good value for money. To be continued...

Since the very expensive renovation some time back Dooley's Lidcombe has gone down hill on a major scale.<br/><br/>Tonight 07/04/18 I took my family there regretfully again after a few months. This is not truly a dinner place to go and eat.<br/><br/>1) The prices are very high even for members.<br/><br/>2) the quantity of core food Eg. Grilled Barramudi about 100 grams the mash potato about 500grams so about a very large handful of slop really. some veges boiled. $24 members price. A fish n chips shop is better and cheaper/<br/><br/>2) T bone steak 350grams of steak (members price $27) average quality in taste large helping of fried chips some veges boiled, I am at home now and still hungry so I am having some cereal now. <br/><br/>3) we also order a few other dishes they were ok<br/><br/>I stood there and shouted to get me any food at all, I will pay more money for anything right now. It was quicker to go to the coffee shop ( john st cafe) and bought a counter sandwich as my son 21/2 y/o began to cry as he was hungry. its now 51mins since we stood in line and placed an order. My son ate an egg sandwich which he doest like egg, but thats all they had.<br/><br/>The garlic bread booked as Entree' which didnt arrive until I stood at the counter. Originally I asked a young lady staff where is my order she spoke to the F&B co'ord after 4 mins I asked her again and embarrassingly said I have left it with the manager. so again i waited 5 mins and went up to the counter and then shouted for an answer and he didnt have one, so he responded there is a sequence and yours in in line soon. Yes I understood that to be "we dont know but your order hasnt been made yet." Thats why table 323 I went to see there docket/receipt and they order at 8:10 pm and they were just being served food. It was about 8:40pm by then.<br/><br/>BBQ Chicken pizza which came last 70 mins after we order and only after chasing the meal up. <br/><br/> So basically if want decent food (not great food) go to Dooleys and get <br/><br/>1) Average food <br/><br/>2) expensive for that quality<br/><br/>3) poor service <br/><br/>4) late orders 40-70 from order <br/><br/>5) want to make 4 trips walking around & search for your order <br/><br/>6) Your family asking you "we are hungry "<br/><br/>7) your child beg and cry for food <br/><br/>8) then go to the coffee shop and buy a eg sandwich to feed a hungry in exchange of paying $97 for meals + egg sandwich + drinks <br/><br/> Then go to Dooleys Lidcombe by all means. I only write this as this is the 3rd time we have this experience, the first two were not as bad, but enough to write a note on their comments card and be ignored...both times.
Msg Makes Me Angry
Crispy pork knuckle my ass... Charge premium prices and the 'Crispy' pork knuckle wasn't crispy... I sent it back and next minute I look up and they remove the word "crispy" off the digital menu. Their excuse was there was miscommunication over the word crispy- I've never known a person to like their pork knuckle soggy. I was told their head chef wasn't in. If their kitchen don't know how to cook knuckle properly without any guidance then they shouldn't attempt selling it for restaurant-quality prices. Pizza was also equally disgusting - tasted like my 2yo dog made it. Also asked for medium well scotch fillet, received a beef jerky instead after coughing up 30bux for it.

Newly renovated, more spacious. The outdoor area in the bistro was replaced with a bar and more indoor seating. The place is arguably more kid-friendly and more casual of a dining experience<br/><br/>Ordered the fish and chips, which comes with a side of salad. The food was delicious, chips were crispy, fish was succulent and battered well. Goes well with the lemon and tartar sauce. The salad was just your average salad with vinaigrette sauce, you either liked it or you didn't. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't something to die for.<br/><br/>Overall, the experience was a good one, very casual vibe, food was delivered to your table, meal was delicious. Had to get your own drinks and cutlery though. Will go again to try more food in the future. On a side note, if you're a guest, always get a member to buy you food to save money.

The bistros and restaurants inside clubs have been contemporarised over recent years, with many offering kid-friendly facilities such as enclosed play gyms and arcade games for the older kids. Lloyd's Bistro at Dooleys Lidcombe is one such place. Mum is a member so we visit at least once a year for her to redeem some restaurant voucher or other. There's always a wide selection of meals to choose from and it's generally tasty.

Located inside the Dooley's Catholic Club in Lidcombe. This restaurant has improved a lot in recent years. <br/><br/>Not quite sure whether we ordered the right dish but today's experience is the best so far. Ordered Pork Belly from Today's Board specials. At 21.90 for member this is indeed a bargain. The pork crackling is crispy and the fresh red onion jam complimented the pork really well. For Dooleys member whose birthday is in November, quickly rush to this place and  use your birthday voucher on this dish. You won't regret it. If you don't eat pork for any reason, the Chicken Avocado is also very nice. Unfortunately the fish and chips as well as the roast beef are just average at best.<br/><br/>With Christmas coming, there is no doubt today's visit won't be our last this year. Kudos to the new lloyd bistro's team. Keep the good food coming.

This place has undergone a renovation with the layout and play area at the side which looks more spacious with a live singer on the weekend and dancefloor. I usually go for the chicken burger and fries and salad however this time I felt like something slightly healthier and got the catch of the day grilled barramundi tartar sauce and chips and salad. I must say the food came out promptly and was moist and tasty. Awhile back I had one of the tastiest Japanese bento box but it didn't last long on the menu guess it wasn't that popular. They also have a cafe near the bistro and upstairs a Vietnamese restaurant and new Chinese restaurant. Being a member I usually come once a year to use the $20 food voucher.

My favourite place to eat in Lidcombe, the food never disappoints and the menu changes slightly every month. The service is outstanding, especially if you are a regular.

This time, I ordered the T-bone steak ($22.90 for members; $27.50 for guests). I didn't get any gravy or sauce on it and somewhat regretted it. The steak was small and so-so; the roast I got the other time was better.

I got Roast of the Day with gravy — full serve for me, of course! Decent serving size, cheap ($13.90 for members or $16.70 for guests), fast and yum! The friend said his Sticky BBQ Ribs ($22.90 for members or $27.50 for guests) was a little too sticky and sweet and got sickening after a little while, so I think getting the roast was a good call.
