So, many of my friends have told me that Tim ho wan is just overpriced yum cha, however, if I must have one dish, it’s the baked bbq pork buns. So this is exactly what I got. A set of 3 pieces for $9.5, it is a bit pricey but TASTES SO GOOD. If you’re a fan of steamed bbq pork buns/ char siu baos, then I highly recommend giving these buns a shot as the baked bun works well taste wise and texture wise.
Pork buns. Enough said. Lol. I guess everyone knows that Tim Ho Wan is famous for its freshly baked pork buns which goes well with its iced milk tea. I can proudly say that I can finish 3 pork buns in one seating. 😋
The elusive Michelin star restaurant landed in Sydney a while back and I finally gotten around to visiting.
The options were wide and you could generally find your favourites like prawn dumpling and pork and prawn dim sum. But I wanted something different.
We tried their special pork buns, the garlic and chicken rice and the clear spinach dumplings. The dumplings were beautiful and delicate with a generous amount of filling.
The chicken rice similarly was generous and packed full of flavour.
The pork buns however were a bit disappointing, I found the exterior far too sweet and awkward with the soft inside. Although I've heard so many people rave about this, I'll probably give it a kiss next time.
Happy New Year everyone! Sorry it's been so long but we have been overseas exploring the US. Keep posted as we are working to try and get our travel guide to you shortly! We hope you are as excited as we are!. The festive season has finally come to a close, well unless you are one of those lucky people who don't go back until next week! Let's take a moment to reflect upon this last festive season. This is the one time of the year where it is impossible to not visit the family. You just have to and under no circumstances would you be able to wiggle free. For many of us, family events are so few in the year so finding a place to hold such a function is critical to it's success! You want somewhere trendy, but not crowded, fancy but not overpriced.. and for crying out loud, a place where you can wear shorts!
The specials included two savoury options (each come as three portions – $8.90) — spicy tom yum goong prawn dumplings, and beetroot-infused pastry filled with prawns and topped with wasabi tobiko (flying fish roe). The pandan pudding pops with red bean, cranberries and dried apricots were the third option (three portions – $6.90) -– for those wanting a sweet start to their dining experience.
Came here for dinner quick service and always great food ! Always order the prawn dumpling and BBQ bun a must in each visit. Will definitely return
The Abalone dumpling was amazing, service was really good and food came really fast! Also didn't have to wait for seats on a Thursday night which is a bonus!
Everything is good! Love the braised chicken feet with abalone sauce. Every time I come to Tim Ho Wan, I will choose this one! Moreover, the price is reasonable!!...................,.,.,.,,,,,,,,,................
Had the baked bun with BBQ pork and steamed scallop and prawn dumpling. Tasted great. Nice small snack. Nice atmosphere and also staff greeted us.
Today I go to Tim Ho Wan in Sydney CBD. The meal is pretty good. I am very familiar with the one in Melbourne. Actually, Tim Ho Wan never let me down. I tried the treasure bowl. It was very tasty. I also tried the specials. It looked so fancy.
Good selection of food great Location and service. Staff are helpful. Miss the food in Hong Kong. R commended for all fridend and family . Gold place to. Go!
Baked buns and chicken feet are the best. My son had two vermicelli roll with shrimp all by himself!
Daughter had at least 6 dumplings and tie baked buns... she is very hard to please.

Finally hubby gets to try THW for the very first time and he's sold! Signature heavenly dishes never failed- loved the bbq pork buns, radish cakes and steamed egg cakes. Next time we'll try their other dishes!
Love the chiffon cake and roast pork buns! We also ordered 2 longan drink which is amazing! Definitely worth dropping by after a tired shopping arvo
I have been to this famous Michelin starred dim sum place in HK several times so was excited that they are now in Sydney. Its on the slightly pricey side for yum cha but it is good and a bit different to the usual. Their signature baked BBQ pork buns are a must with a sweet crumble like exterior encasing a generous, sweet & salty BBQ pork filling. The skin is thicker then the original in HK & not as saucy inside but it is still delicious. The sticky rice with chicken is also another top pick here. Always a satisfying experience.
I've been hearing so much good reviews about Tim Ho Wan's pork buns, but when I do actually get my fingers on one, strangely it wasn't as good as people said it is. Maybe it is overhyped in my mind and my tastebuds just do not agree. Their prawn dumplings are quite good, however I am not quite sure it is worth the $7.90 you are expected to pay. I do really like their Pork congee though, very nice flavour with generous servings of pork and thousand year eggs, and I've gone back a few times for this dish. The mango pomelo sago is also very nice, however serving is quite small for the price.
Go for the baked pork buns but it's quite dearly priced compared to what you would expect at other restaurants (and to the streets of Hong Kong from where this was from). Limited seating and lunch crowd can be a bother. Congee was authentic and hot though -- but make sure you take off the lid with care otherwise you'll end up wearing your lunch.
Just a little after a year since I went to the Tim Ho Wan in Chatswood, I stumble across a new branch of Tim Ho Wan in the Westfield mall in the CBD. It’s a much smaller version, with only a handful of tables, and it’s relatively tiny. I suspect that their menu is quite reduced as well. But who cares? Those char siu (BBQ pork) buns are TO DIE FOR, and along with the salt and pepper squid, some yummy dumplings, and one of my favourites: turnip cake (which my pal liked, surprisingly, I worry that the texture of it is just too weird for non-Asian people), this was a very cheery lunch surprise.
Definitely fresh & tasty, definitely not cheap.
Servings are smaller, I personally think it's worth it for the freshness & flavours - however I don't think everyone would agree.
More refined than yum cha yes, but I'm not convinced it's better. Are the fresh dumplings as as good as the fresh dumplings from Din Tai Fung, I'm not convinced of this either. However I'll definitely be back as a good dumplings a good dumpling!
The shrimp & park dim sims are a must.
Glad you're finally here!
Went for a re-visit to Tim Ho Wan for the pork buns. They are not your run of the mill pork buns. They are pillows of amazingness. Fresh pork and sauce inside fresh moist bread and a sugary outside - divine!! I could eat these every day. Also got the healthy steamed spinach and shrimp dumplings as well as the pork and prawn ones. They were all probably the best dumplings going around. Service was fast. The shop is primarily take out and as such your food comes in plastic / paper packaging.
Having enjoyed the Tim Ho Wan in Chatswood, we were quite excited when their CBD store opened. Found at the edge of the Food Court (Level 5) in Westfield Sydney, it is centrally located and very convenient to access. For lunch, we ordered the Baked Buns with BBQ Pork (one of the Heavenly Kings), as well as the Pork Dumplings with Shrimp.
Pitt st . Branch is just a limited menu ans a small place not like the one at burwood and chatswood. But this Steam BBQ Pork Bun is the one of the best pork bun that I've tried. For only $8.80 for 3pcs :). I totally loved it 👌👌
Tried Tim Ho Wan today for a quick bite and was impressed. I ordered the vegetable and shrimp dumplings. The rice noodle was think and the filling was full of flavour. I'd like to return to try the other menu options.
I liked eating here but probably not as much as the Burwood one as this is primarily catering for takeaway as limited seating inside (but you can choose to take it out to eat in food court) and everything is served in a takeaway container. I tried the Baked Bun With BBQ Pork, Pan-fried Radish Cake, Pork Dumpling With Shrimp, Fried Noodle With BBQ Pork And Soy Sauce, Glutinous Rice With Lotus Leaf, and Steamed Egg Cake. I had Homemade Longan (Cold). The food tasted good especially their signature pork buns. They are crispy and the filling is tender. The other food is good as well.
Tried Tim ho Wan in hk for the first time only a few weeks ago (went 3 times in one day!) , best value and most yummy tasty food ever so I was excited to cry out the Pitt St branch.
I was a bit sad to find that the menu is a reduced version of the hk menu and some of the items I wanted were not there (maybe Pitt St is the express version and I have to go to the other branches?)
The signature char siu pineapple bun was good but also didnt hit the same soft fluffy moist heights as what I had tried in hk.
Recommend. Definitely worth trying! Pork meat inside is tasty and the sugar layer covered outside the bun is crispy and .. Anyway try it yourself you'll get it.
Do: the pork bun obviously. Duh.
Don't: be foolish and eat the yum cha items. It's nice but you lack the authenticity of the trolleys.
Tip: get a table first. Then order 2nd.
I've been to the Chatswood branch previously and was very impressed so when I stepped into the Westfield branch here and saw a fast food set up I was a little disappointed... The menu has been shortened to serve their most popular dishes only. Taste wise though it's very consistent, but it's just not quite the same when served in paper boxes..
If you are after one of the best cheap eat options in Sydney, Tim Ho Wan is a no brainer. Following its great success in Hong Kong, the world’s cheapest 1 Michelin starred restaurant expanded its business down under. Hooray!. It’s been a few years since our first visit to the original Tim Ho Wan in Mongkok, Hong Kong, so when I found out that Tim Ho Wan made their presence in Sydney, I was ecstatic! Our initial plan was to have dinner at the Chatswood branch on the first night of our arrival, luckily the Westfield Sydney branch in the CBD opened just in time to save us from travelling all the way out (which can be a little inconvenient for Minibun George). Albeit intended as a takeaway only shop, the Westfield CBD branch’s menu still offers most of the popular items that you would want to eat at Tim Ho Wan.
Steam your gloomy afternoon with the crowd favourite bbq pork buns which is now conveniently located in Westfield Sydney. Unfortunately, it’s not comparable to the pricing and quality in Hong Kong, but we’re fortunate enough it’s here at all.
New Year and new food places to try - a sacrifice but someone has to do it! Having been to THW Chatswood I have some idea of preferences - in particular I love their sweet and yummy bbq pork buns. Fortunately these made the cut onto the shorter CBD menu, which is aimed fair and square at the city fast lunch crowd. I tried the buns and congee - the congee was a little bland and needed condiments. Not sure if they were provided as by the time I found a seat I was on the other side of the food hall...the buns were delicious as ever. It being their first week of opening, there are still some teething issues. There was quite a queue but I doubt I'd have waited more than 5 minutes all up. Am looking forward to a repeat trip to try another 'Treasure' item and their fried noodles :)
I love yum cha food and more importantly good quality yum cha food, and that's the reputation Tim Ho Wan has. Although the prices are considerably high and it'll never compare to the Hong Kong shop, it's not bad. Their bbq prok buns are the signature item and it's great to know I can just buy a pack of 3 to takeaway and enjoy at my work desk!
Love the congee & wonton noodle soup here!! Great tasting food & super fast service!! The set menu is very good value too with your choice of dumplings + drink...awesome fast take away place in the CBD!!
I love their BBQ pork. I miss the fat Char Siew so much when I was young. This place brings me back to my memory. Please keep the fat BBQ pork. I know it maybe not too many people like it. But I really love it.
There is a small surprise. You can eat the right level of roast meat in Sydney. But I hope can have more choices such as soy sauce chicken.
The roast duck is super delicious. Juicy with crispy skin. Eat with the dry noodles, it is perfect pair. The bbq pork is also very tasty and can be combined with the duck in one order. I also like their dim sum, especially the prawn dumpling. Super fresh prawns with crystal skin. Price is reasonable for the freshness of food.
Finally! they brought their best into their takeaway store. saves me the commute to Canton Canton at the other end of town hall station!
Still the best roast meats i've tasted around Sydney, and probably the only one available at this part of town for a quick lunch takeaway, conveniently just at the food court under my office building.
really good incentive to keep coming back given they have return vouchers for every $x spent. which essentially is more reason it's getting me hooked on my favourite BBQ pork with dry noodles.
Me and my hubby ordered a 3 roast combination and Singapore Hainaness chicken rice today. The roast duck was so succulent, the roast pork belly skin was crispy and the BBQ pork taste good with some fats on it. The Singapore Hainaness chicken rice taste so good with the chilli sauce. Over all 5 star for the foods and good service.
