This place should come with a serial warning, eat at you own risk ⚠️ The Pork intestines & sweet potato noodles soup was so spicy & oily, unless you're a mala spicy fan & can handle yourself, you'll be in serious trouble! But I love it! The noodles were playful chewy, great for slurping. The soup was not overly salty. The pork intestines were ok, good texture, but chopped up to too small pieces. Overall quite enjoyable.
We always get the sweet potato noodles (number 10) at this place. The taste does vary depending by the batches they cook but I'm always super satisfied.
Whilst this dish might unsettle your bowels the next day, it's probably one of my favourite dishes and I always end up craving it again haha.
I am shocked to see the rating of this place. It's a gem in the midst of hustle bustle of hawker lane. I traced people carrying the aluminium big bowl around and reached to this place. Though they have limited veg options but still loved the food. Already have been there twice. Had the cold bean noodles, vegetarian gravy served with rice, both of which is scrumptious. May be you will end up wiping your nose but you will definitely love the food and the preparations.
Ambience - 3/5
Food - 4.5/5
Quantity and quality - 4/5
The "meat mao cai" is serious spicy treat. Made from thin beef strips, luncheon meat, quail eggs and blood cake. It has an intense aroma that compliment the slight numbing spiciness. At $18 it's a bit pricy for a food court meal but it has enough portion to split between two friends.
The irony. My favourite dish from this place is the wonton soup, one of the few things on the menu without chilli. This is a soup that I get good-going cravings for mid-week. The wontons are average, but what makes it is the chicken soup! Mild but flavourful, not very salty (which I love) but warm and clear broth. Tastes even better when you order something else with chilli, because contrast!
OK, had to give 4 for this tiny little eatery in Hawker Lane in Westfield Chatswood. 12 dishes on the menu and they are all superb and really well priced. My favourite is the Sour & Spicy tofu pudding (for lovers of mapo tofu without the pork) for under $10. It is blindingly hot and unrelenting. If you like it hot hot hot, you will love this spot.
I enviously looked at people carrying around trays with deep burnished metal bowls filled with spiced meat, and I traced, nay, stalked it right back to Mao Cai. Turns out, that day they were promoting the dumplings instead, which I must admit, took the wind out of my sails a little bit. But you know what? The dumplings were actually ridiculously on point. They were incredibly under the pump, but my trio of dumplings were silky, succulent, and topped with a garlic chilli sauce that gave me flashbacks of living in Asia.
Have only tried one dish here. I had no idea what it was but I'd noticed on previous occasions that everyone was eating what appeared to be a spicy glass noodle dish. So naturally I had to try it 😆 I found out it was a sweet potato noodles with beef and pork intestines in a spicy and sour soup. First bite, all I could taste was oil. Chilli oil. And lots of it. Second bite, a big arse hit of chilli. By the third bite tho, I was loving it! Very unique, sweated like a pig, but thoroughly enjoyed this. Looking forward to trying some of their other dishes.
The unique place for hot and spicy. This Chinese food store offers great dumplings, noodles and other Sichuan authentic cuisine!! The most popular one is No. 10 sweet potato noodle with hot and sour soup!! It is very easy to get addicted!!
Best chicken wanton soup, absolutely love this dish 😋
Everything we ordered was a taste sensation! The prawns were delicious like I've never tasted before. I LOVE the service, especially the idea of a welcoming pot of tea, and all staff were happy and delightful. This is my new standard of excellence.
A bit pricey, but taste was alwasy very satisfied. Probably need to improve re-visit customer service. Such as a coupon for drinks or extra rice?
If you like spicy 🌶or exotic flavors... this is the place to try. It's a bit expensive for food court meals, but the quality is there. I do recommend the dry dishes with rice.
Best spicy chinese food in town.
Really nice street food concept
