Longer trading hours during VIVID means that you get to enjoy the Middle Eastern wonderland that is Bekya for longer!

If you’re looking to try a little bit of everything, I’d go for one of the boxes. You pick your protein, salad, rice and dip and can add homemade flat bread for an extra dollar. I loved loved loved the lemon and garlic chicken on Egyptian rice and muhammara. The muhammara looked a little intimidating to me but surprisingly wasn’t too spicy. The vegetarian box was full of flavour and I liked that even within the protein section of the box, there was a good variety of tid bits to enjoy. The fattoush was excellent!! The Egyptian falafel wrap was nice as well and had a sizeable cross-section. Easy to eat if you’re on the go. The Koshari, an Egyptian classic, was perfect. Visually appealing, tasty and textural. I would highly recommend this.

My thanks to Bekya and iD Collective for the invite.

One of the best options in the Gateway building, I usually go for the Chicken Shawarma (shredded chicken) with a side of rice and quinoa salad. I have also tried the Shishtawook (grilled chicken breast), but found that to be less filling.

Have also tried the chicken with garlic lemon sauce and the Lamb shawarma box, always appetising and very filling!

I have had takeaway work lunch from here a few times. My favourite item on the menu was the Laham Mishwee wrap (grilled lamb, slaw, pickles, baba ganoush, zaatar yoghurt). It was made to order including the fresh bread off the press. Considering it was a busy lunch time, I was served in a very reasonable amount of time and received my food with napkins and cutlery (where applicable). I find the prices affordable for a work lunch and you get a generous quantity.

I didn't enjoy the falafal wrap as much as I found it a bit dry. The box options are tasty as well but are quite filling with all the rice.

Bekya at Circular Quay has become one of my favorite lunch places in the CBD! I can't get over the chicken or lamb in a box (no rice) with two salads and lots of Sriracha sauce (this is really tasty and spicy at the same time). The staff know me well by now and always give some extra Sriracha to savor.

Tried this place at the new Gateway food court down at Circular Quay. The chicken shawarma wrap was very nice. Good flavours and the wrap itself was nice and chewy. They also have 'boxes' if you want a choice of 2 salads with your meal instead of a wrap.

There’s been a lot of hype around circular quay ever since the brand new flashy food hub ‘Gateway’ opened. Despite boasting big names including Messina, Chat Thai, Din Tai Fung and Zumbo, I wanted to see what else was on offer. That’s when I came across Bekya for middle eastern food that is not kebab. They sell lunch boxes where you can choose a protein, a type of rice, a salad and type of sauce for $12.90. I found the choices quite interesting and went for the following:

The food here is delicious. I ordered the 'boxes' and choose the chicken shwarma, Egyptian Rice, Hummus and Chickpeas salad. The chicken shwarma and the rice was fantastic. For someone who rarely eat middle eastern food, I don't know how ti eat the hummus so I was eating it lastly after the rice and chicjen was finished, but the taste was quite nice. The salad was okay not too special
My only concern is that they're using wooden cutleries which has this weird texture in your mouth. I prefer plastic cutleries

This outlet is located in the newly renovated Gateway food court. This seemed quite popular and lots of people lining up to get their share of Middle Eastern food. They offer choices of boxes, wraps, and other items. They got through the queues efficiently and were very polite.

Eyeing off the menu I thought the best way to go was for one of the boxes. You get a choice of protein, salad, rice, and a dip. I thought this was fairly good value at $12.90. I ended up choosing Lamb Shawarma, Tabouleh, Egyptian Rice, and Hommus. They were all very tasty items on their own but went very well together. I also got a White Flat Bread (they offer this as wholemeal as well). I could see them making them to order and a steal at only $1 for one. It was so fresh and tasty when warm.

The menu options are fairly simple, wraps or boxes. I chose the 'box' option i.e. protein, salad, rice and dip. Egyptian Falafel, Arnabeet and haloumi ($12.90) with fattoush salad, rice with lentils and babaghanouj. Two falafel that I believe were cooked to order although I don't think were made to order so I found it a little denser than preferred but still had a good crunch on the outside. Flavour was OK but have had better falafel in Sydney. Haloumi was quite nice and soft. Arnabeet I learnt is the cauliflower which was nicely flavoured and roasted. Fattoush salad was missing the signature bread component that distinguishes a fattoush salad from basically a garden salad. The babaghanouj pretty good with a smoky flavour. The rice with lentils OK but found it a bit dense and dry. Service was friendly and fairly efficient. Wasn't keen on the cutlery which is that light wooden stuff that feels funny in your mouth — much prefer the smoother biodegradable plastic cutlery.

We were in the area for vivid Sydney and we discovered this place as the only one serving Halal food in the complex. Had the meatballs and Chicken shawarma salad. The meatballs were tender and juicy, some of the best I've had and the chicken shawarma was good the Salad wasn't much to right home about.

Great coffee, friendly service. They do syrups if you’re in it for the sugar. The falafels are also Delicious too. Big recommend

Bekya is wonderful. I lived in Egypt for years and miss the food very much. Bekya is the closest I have had to it in Australia. I go at least once a week now. Highly recommend the felafel and the chicken, both the shishkebabs and the shawarma. Always a pleasure to go there and be greeted by their lovely welcoming team.
