Creative and pleasant: a lovely dining experience. The service was great, the food was not too bad, hit and miss, one of the dishes was kinda strange in the pairing of salmon and pancetta but the gnocchi was very tasty. The best thing was probably the bread and butter, it was really good!!! We also had the deconstructed cheesecake for dessert, it was so beautifully presented with thin slices of apple delicately arranged in such an artistic formation, too pretty to be eaten and it was delicious. Would recommend if you’re in the area!
This is a very good restaurant in a great setting on the grounds at Newmans Nursery.
We went for breakfast and it was brilliant. Everything was well presented freshly made and beautifully plated.
The coffee - just as it should be. There is some thought put into the coffee they serve here and how it comes to the table. This actually tastes great - fresh beans and not burnt or overly bitter (European background so good coffee defines the day)
The poached eggs were perfect - and did not come out of a poaching bag! The beetroot hollandaise looks vibrant on the plate and tasted just right.
Poppyseed scones made a great base for the eggs and the accompanying garnishes, wilted greens and other sides were as they should be - perfectly fresh and tasty.
The edible flowers and herbs were a beautiful touch and tasty too!
The plate was generous and welcoming. Unfortunately i did not take a photo on this occasion as we were too busy enjoying our meals - but we will be back!
Headed here for lunch recently and what a lovely experience we had. The food was so tasty, the sourdough with parsley salt was moorish. Pork pie was filling and well received. The desserts on the restaurant menu looked delicious as they were coming out of the kitchen but we couldn’t pass up on hot scones with jam and cream. Friendly staff in a pretty surrounding, and decent amount of car parking available. A nice afternoon experience with the bonus of being located in a plant nursery.
Staff were friendly, food was fantastic & the atmosphere topped off the experience.
The restaurant is surrounded by a beautiful garden & has a short walk through an amazing nursery
devine coffee and excellent food! if you r mushroom lover, Mushroom and living cheese is the must eat dish. Gardeners breakfast has everything you want for.
Located pretty much on the edge of the suburbs at the far end of North East Rd this is, at bottom, a nursery kiosk, but raised to the nth degree to a level of elegance and sophistication that many city restaurants would give their eye teeth to match.
Sitting on their verandah under the flowering wisteria and watching the green of the nursery, life is very fine indeed.
Breakfasts and lunch time meals are imaginative and beautifully prepared and presented.
If you're just there for coffee and a sit down then a plate if Petit fours will do the trick, a couple of feather light scones with, of course, jam and cream with excellent coffee or, even better, a pot of tea. (There's a good selection of leaf teas from the T-Bar in the Central Market) High teas are available and worth booking for.
Service is outstanding. Yes, this sort of thing is a bit more pricey than a bucket of chips and a pie from the warmer, but it's worth the money.
Recommended.
AMAZING...Incredible chef Kane Pollard is such a creative innovative chef who loves local produce. It's worth making a special trip. Had one of the most amazing desserts ever recently - called fallen leaves, try it!!!
Beautiful place to have breakfast on the weekend, atmosphere is ambient. The food is amazing and the service is great. Very romantic vibe, would be lovely to visit with someone special. Try the Berkshire pork & eggs, magnificent!
Perfect for brekkie, local for me. Consistently good service. Cant go wrong with some sourdough, eggs and add-ons (um bacon and berkshire pork, obviously). Cute limestone courtyard set up, catch some morning rays.

Perfect way to spend a weekend morning. Coffee and desert or a more substantial meal. Great food, fresh and flavourful. Staff are warm, welcoming and wonderous in their approach.
Awesome seasonal menu that changes with the change of available produce. Gorgeous flavours and amazing presentation. Workers are extremely attentive. The setting of the restaurant is gorgeous and is connected to a lovely nursery. Price is on the more expensive side but you are paying for high quality service and even higher quality food.
I returned again this afternoon and had the gnocchi and also tried the hand cut pasta both were absolutely amazing. These are two of the best dishes I’ve ever had here. Presentation and colours are so beautiful. I followed up the meal with the scones and always they were light and fluffy and the house made jam was fantastic. Can’t wait for the next menu change
Absolutely amazing! Beautifully located in the Newmans Nursery at Tea Tree Gully and serving exceptional food, this place is worth the drive. Staff were all very helpful, friendly and professional. The famous scones are devine! if you can't fit them in you must get them takeaway...you don't want to miss out!
Lovely breakfast but not good value for money. I ordered the butter poached prawn with scrambled egg. $22 for scrambled egg and for a tiny portion of prawn is overpriced. It was not a large prawn, I am thinking less than 20g!!! The eggs Benedict with beetroot hollandaise was lovely and very pretty to look at. The scone base was something different. The ham looked like it was sliced from a processed roll, rather than a leg of ham. Over all, lovely food but too expensive.
The food is delicious and beautifully presented, for the price though I would of liked to see bigger portions (entre from $19 and mains from $28 to $34)...I had an entre and a main and contemplated going through a maccas drive through on the way home. The service was friendly but awkward again for the cost I would expect an effortless experience and to always have a drink on the go. I don't see myself going back but still would recommend giving it a go to try the food but don't go on an empty stomach.
Side note: i ordered a vodka soda and lime and got a voda soda with lime cordial 🙈
Awesome restaurant, local produce, house made everything and a chef with the most amazing imagination and skill! Definitely go there to try it out!!
We have heard about this amazing restaurant and in fact they were all good reviews! So me and my sister have decided to visit this lovely cafe at the entrance of newman's nursery! Wow! I must say that they have such a great atmosphere and location! I loved how we were eating while the birds were singing. I love this place !! I really do! The mountains, the trees and this amazing cafe
Food
We went here for a late lunch last Friday! I fancied the Pork belly while my sister's attention was captured by the sweet cord risotto ! For desserts I wanted to try the root vegetable Panna cotta while my sister had the chocolate dessert!
Both main dishes and desserts were outstanding and stunning!! All perfect score for me ! It was that delicious ❤️
Service
The front desk lady and the waiter both know how to deliver an amazing customer service! Both were properly trained and cheerful! Couldn't ask for a better service seriously !
Experience
It was truly remarkable! Topiary Cafe has been one of my personal Favs and probably the best cafe here in Adelaide. Big statement but no lies there!
I have had a bad experience at Topiary prior with the head waiter but today was just great so I'll talk about that. The breakfast today was spectacular. I had the baked eggs in a shredded pork mix. My explanation is not that good and it definitely doesn't do this dish justice. It is easily the best breakfast I have had in South Australia. I genuinely can't wait to go back. Not cheap but well worth it and the service today was attentive, timely and very pleasant.
We always go to Topiary after hikes at Anstey Hill, even though we do stand out in our gym gear at this posh brunch spot. We only ever eat outside in the paved courtyard, which has a lovely vibe to it being surrounded by all the greenery. Breakfast here is presented so fancy and tastes even better than it looks. The servings are quite small and expensive, so I recommend getting the Landscapers breakfast so you get your money's worth - just don't order extras because they're even more pricey. Service here I find is ok - with staff not overly attentive.

Good place for large bookings and gatherings. I have always found service is excellent despite the views of some reviews here. Best when the weather is fair and not too hot or cold. Top place to have lunch or breakfast in a high quality setting. It's only gaining in its well deserved reputation.
Just a heads up - book ahead as it's real popular. If you don't you may be disappointed like a couple of the reviews on here. (That said, just cause it's not in town, doesn't mean you can just rock up and expect a seat if others have booked ahead.)
Once again the Topiary was fantastic! We had a lovely three course dinner and it didn't disappoint. The service was excellent, fast but not pushy and very attentive. The food was spectacular and all locally sourced. My favourites were the carpaccio, pork belly and chocolate mousse were amazing! And the setting outside in the garden was gorgeous. Can't rate this place high enough!
The Topiary Café is a definite favourite in Adelaide, a location that keeps me going back with every trip interstate. You can always look forward to trying new exquisite and fine cuisines as Chef Kane constantly applies the latest methods and flavours available. The food is fresh, fragrant and imaginative. It is continuously a pleasant surprise to see a new seasonal menu with combinations of various foods you’d only expect to find in top restaurants.
The style is casual fine dining with an intimate cosy feel, reminiscent of a semi-rustic cottage vibe with scents of freshly ground coffee beans and candle warmth. The Topiary Café also has an outdoor seating area that is contrastingly surrounded by stunning floral gardens and fauna’s fragrance in a slightly more casual setting. A location with no time restrictions, a place to get lost in nature’s environment.
Staff are incredibly hospitable and remember a face that has visited before.
Whilst prices are slightly on the high end, the experience matches the value.
A one of a kind restaurant with no comparisons.
Here’s a place that’s literally a hidden gem. Tucked away in Tea Tree Gully, you’ll find Topiary at the entrance to Newman’s Nursery. I only discovered this place though Instagram – seeing photos of some of the beautiful dishes created by young chef/owner Kane Pollard who took over Topiary about five years ago. He’s been having a good time doing his thing – preparing food with the freshest of ingredients, many coming from Topiary’s edible garden and the rest, locally sourced. Kane even bakes his own bread and makes the butter.
Located at the front of Newman's Nursery on North East Road, this garden cafe is beautifully presented. There is seating inside and also outside on the verandah. I would recommend that you book no matter what day or time you are intending to go as they are always quite busy. The staff are friendly and accommodating although occasionally will forget that you have asked for the menu or that you want to order something else. However, overall the service is good which is important considering that this cafe is not cheap.
The food is good quality and made with fresh local produce. The serves are quite small and the extras can make a basic dish quite expensive. Iced coffees cost $8.50 and two poached eggs with avocado is $14. Two scones were $8 but if you want to add their house made jam an additional $2 is charged. The gardener's breakfast shown in the photo is tasty - again not a huge serve for $18. On a 40 degree day, iced table water would have been appreciated rather than water served at room temperature.
Having said all that, breakfast at Topiary was an enjoyable experience. The decor is fresh and very much in keeping with the garden theme and Newman's is a top class nursery. The meal was excellent in terms of quality, even if a little on the small size. However, you are paying to eat in a place that is relaxed, spotlessly clean and not noisy, and where the service for the most part is great. I felt the experience justified the cost of the dishes.
Summary: garden cafe in an easy to find location with ample parking right out the front - plenty of shade on a hot day. Pleasant decor that was clean and minimalist. Food good quality and made with local produce. Worth a try? Yes - be sure to book ahead and do not expect this to be a cheap eats option.
Wonderful breakfast menu in a wonderful location however the service doesn't always match.
Once my partner and I sat outside where the waitress felt the need to remind us that we needed to pay before we leave ... As if that wasn't the regular thing to do.
The food often takes a long time to come out too so just be aware, but it is delicious, flavoursome with a generous serve when you get it.
This has become a favourite spot for Sunday breakfast with friends. The kind of friends that finish breakfast and ask to see the all day sweets menu 😎 three of us shared the "Wild Pepper Pannacotta, Strawberry Sorbet and White Chocolate Soil", a new addition to the menu. It was absolutely divine, soft, silky, sweet and tart, a slight crunch from the soil ... Amazing. I highly recommend you book ahead, they have been booked out on each visit.
Amazing food, reasonably priced. Would cost twice as much if served up in the cbd. Service is good and a nice setting. One of the bests breakfasts in Adelaide. Great for coffee and cake or if you want a nice meal.
Came here for breakfast. Everything was really good especially the dessert we got which was the potato honeycomb with sour cream parfait :)
What a fantastic experience as always. This was my second time at The Topiary Cafe and I remain really impressed with the food and service.
We had 5 course degustation menu and it was so tasty. The highlights for me were the in house smoked salmon (just amazing!!) and the dessert. But there was not one dish I didn't enjoy.
I will definitely be back.
Went to The Topiary for lunch today with my gf. Located in a nursery at the bottom of the foothills its a beautiful setting. I ordered the Venison with smoked mash potato & rhubarb puree (Special) @ $36 & my gf ordered the 16hr Barossa Pork belly with stuffed zucchini flower $29. The venison was amazing, cooked well & cut like butter. The smoked mash & rhubarb puree went well with it. My gf's pork belly was cooked beautifully, tender on the inside & crackled up nicely on the outside. The heirloom carrots were to die for.
The service was outstanding, the girls serving us were very friendly & warm. The chef even sent one of them out to ask how I liked the venison as it was the first time the dish had been served. Bill the resident cat paid us a visit & scored himself some pork belly.
This is now our fave cafe & if the food & service remain outstanding will be hard to beat. Clearly the chefs love what they do & it translates onto the plate. Highly recommended!
Our next visit there will be the degustation menu on a Sat night. Cant wait 😃
The topiary is a beautiful restaurant tucked away in tea tree gulley. It's a very spacious and relaxing atmosphere, great spot for breakfast or lunch. We sat on the verandah but I would recommend sitting down in the garden as the glass wall around the verandah makes it a bit hot and stuffy. My friend and I both had the pork belly for lunch and it was amazing both visually and to taste. The pork was cooked perfectly and the sauce with it made the whole dish. We also had a side of black garlic potatoes that were very tasty, they would have been perfect if they had a bit of crispness to them. Unfortunately the service was a bit lacklustre, it took awhile for our order to be taken and no one checked on us to see how our meals were or if we needed more drinks. Will be back to try out the breakfast menu and look through the nursery out the back.
LOVED this place! Neither me or my partner can fault anything at all! I have never written a review before but The Topiary definitely deserves to be recognised for their amazing dinner service and experience. Beautifully presented and delicious dishes. Such a hidden gem! We will definitely be returning.
I've been coming to this place for over twenty years. Whenever I tn return to Adelaide for a holiday to visit family I always come back here. I'm having a dot flat white in a mug. The coffee is nice and strong and piping hot, just how I like it.
I can't speak highly enough of this quaint little cafe at the bottom of the foothills. It is my local go to cafe when meeting up with family and friends. The menu is forever changing and incorporates a lot of local and in season produce. Yes the portion sizes are small and the food is expensive, but you realise why when you see and taste the thought that has gone into the presentation and taste of each dish. Thank you for providing the north east with such an incredible spot.
Especially when that provides opportunity to sample fresh, seasonal produce driven food from The Topiary Cafe which is gaining quite the reputation. When entering the nursery, apart from the glorious Autumn coloured plants, the cafe is the first thing you see.
Love Love Love this place!👌 Recently named no.1 garden cafe in SA- It's the perfect spot for a catch up in a very pretty surrounding. Favourite is Eggs Royale on a poppyseed scone with a beetroot hollandaise that is so dam deelish! Scones with homemade jam is also a Must! Will keep returning I still need to do the High Tea 😊😊
The warm fruit bread with mascarpone cream and lemon curd is to die for! The service is friendly and the garden setting is particularly lovely, I've never been disappointed with this gourmet restaurant
Daughter took me here for my bithday breakfast. Cant think of a better place to go. Food was wonderful and coffee top quality. Service friendly and just the right amount of attention. Will definately be back.
This is seriously good quality cooking at an unlikely location. The tapas lunch "rolling" selection was varied and delicious. A very pleasant surprise and I will definitely need to go back to try the breakfast.
Beautiful Breakfast. I'd heard great things and liked the look of the menu, so stopping at the café for a bite after plant purchasing was a must. Upon entering, my eating buddies and I were directed to a table inside the cosy interior. We were a little late to grab an outdoor table nestled amongst the gorgeous greenery of Newman's Nursery, but are already planning a return visit to take advantage of al fresco dining whilst the weather is still warm.
Not only were the breakfast options out of the ordinary, they were also generous in size. My "House-Made Haloumi + Corn Bread", with smoky eggplant butter, garden pea and blistered heirloom tomato salad, house-made haloumi and lemon + a side of mushrooms, was sensational. The corn bread is baked in house, and has the appearance of a savoury scone. My guests enjoyed their "Landscapers Breakfast" and "Gardeners Breakfast", with a variety of extras from Topiary's extensive sides list.
I have my eye on the coconut pancakes next time.
Wonderful service, gorgeous food!
Take a small detour and enter into this little fairytale garden. Greeted by a warm smile. We asked for a small stool for the handbag and was told there was none unfortunately, but they will be looking into getting one! Awwww... How's that for service!
Dishes were surprising and delish. Had the pâté + cucumber entree and the smoked onion was simply beautiful. The filet mignon is must try.
We're on to our 3 desserts right now! And it's heavenly...
Never fails to impress me.. This is one of my favourite places to eat, full stop. I haven't got one unkind thing to say about the place. I've brought many friends here, and everyone leaves wondering why they've never been before. Breakfast is balanced, wholesome and hearty, lunch is a little bit fancy, and the scones and cakes are like poetry in food form. I'm shocked to see complaints about bad service - I can tell you, if you have a problem with the service at the Topiary, you've caught them on a bad day. The service is usually impeccable. We're always greeted with smiles and treated as though our dining experience really matters. I'm proud that there's a place like this in my local area.
Just beautiful!. First visited this café last month and returned this morning for a beautiful breakfast. I was a little surprised by the previous comments about service; both times it's been exceptional. We eat out heaps (probably too much!) so we've experienced all sorts of service and really this was a lovely experience. Absolutely gorgeous setting, particularly in the courtyard. Inside is quaint (it's a really old stone building) and the whole place was completely full with diners, but wasn't crowded. Food was really fresh (they use a lot of produce from the garden there), delicious and I couldn't fault it. I had the pancakes with berries & pistachio crumb& earl grey gel, yum. Not huge serves, but more than adequate & I'd prefer quality over quantity any day. Coffee was 'ok', say a 7/10 (I wouldn't go there just for coffee). Something I noticed was that today they offered our kids a kids menu, whereas last time they didn't and the kids just ordered from the main menu, which wasn't a problem but if you don't know to ask for it, there are smaller serves available. Table service for breakfast is great, I'm so over lining up for 10 minutes to order, it's so much nicer to be served at the table! Finished off the morning with a lovely wander through the garden nursery. Really recommend this place.
Love it!. I have had breakfasts, lunch and coffee here and always thoroughly enjoyed my experience. I am looking forward to trying their high tea. The decor is gorgeous and it's so relaxing to sit out in the courtyard having breakfast. The food is extremely fresh and of high quality but be aware it is not plentiful and thus can be a bit costly. If you're ordering breakfast and like toast, you will need to order extra as it only comes with one half size piece of bread - my friend couldn't stop saying "you call this toast? No.. no.. this is not toast." I agree. Lovely scones, cakes and coffee and beautiful homemade jam. I am always happy to eat here!

Great Experience. I thoroughly enjoyed my High Tea experience at The Topiary Cafe.
I personally found staff to be friendly and efficient. The quality of food was very good and I was happy that my hot chocolate was included in the $31.50 price.
I would definitely recommend The Topiary Cafe as a High Tea option. (Make sure you book though! It was very busy when I went!)
Lovely spot. Attentive and friendly service. I'm not sure they have completely found their level with the dishes - they were all nice but I felt that maybe chef is trying too hard to find unusual combinations rather than just sticking with the favorites. For example, the only side salad had blue cheese, which many people don't like (although there are probably more options in summer). I had the veal which was perfectly cooked and I would order again just for the pumpkin gnocchi although I didn't personally like the sauce (couldnt pinpoint exactly why). Friends had the fish -again beautifully cooked but some clashing elements on the plate. Pare it back and the hero will shine. Would return, particularly to try the Devonshire tea! :)
Topiary Cafe- Very satisfied customer. I have been to Topiary numerous times, breakfast, lunch, High Tea and for coffee and cake. The food is fabulous, so fresh and beautifully presented. The staff are wonderful and so friendly and attentive I don't know what the previous review was about! Am really looking forward to Mothers Day HT. Well done Kane you have a beautiful business and wonderful staff.
Excellent food and service. Dined here a few times and absolutely loved it. The service is great and the atmosphere is relaxing and tranquil. The menu incorporates many fresh and seasonal flavours and the wine list is impressive.
Love the outside patio area- a nice spot to have a glass of wine while catching up with old friends.
all in all, an amazing hidden gem that i highly recommend to everyone.
will be going back there very soon for high tea.
The place has a rustic old house feel to it. There's a lot of wood and bric-a-brac around the place. This place is only open for dinner on Fridays and Saturdays, and tonight is a set-price two-course for $55 or three-course for $70...
I finally decided on the filet mignon and smoked potato dish that looks so beautiful plated up. Tender juicy beef wrapped in prosciutto and topped with pine chimichurri – is there anything better in life than this? Cylinders of smoked potato gnocchi that were light, airy and soft like a cake; paired with slices of pickled heirloom carrot that gave an acidic touch and pops of blistered tomatoes. Filet Mignon and Smoked Potato ($27.90) Look at the prosciutto wrapped beef! C choose the smoked paprika marinated chicken breast that came with a corn and lime puree and was decorated with semi-dried tomatoes, charred chorizo and baby herbs. C let me steal a bite and it was surprisingly sweet from the corn and lime puree; the juicy, soft chicken was cooked perfectly with a flavour filled paparika crispy skin. Smoked Paprika Marinated Chicken Breast ($32.50) Beautiful little place that serves such delicious dishes – so happy we have this gem at the north east of Adelaide :)
I’ve always driven past this place while going on hills runs so I decided to swing by- I was not disappointed. The indoor vibe is very chilled and the aesthetic is very cute. I do highly recommend books table as they are a very popular place and it would suck to just turn up and not be guaranteed a table. The menu was simple but very well executed- I love how the different dynamics of each part work together exceptionally well. Also it’s situated at the bottom of the hills so a nice drive afterwards is an absolute must. 10/10 🥰
Absolutely amazing, we were so impressed the food was exceptional, we are on nutritional keto and vegetarian, we find it hard to get anything on a menu that is suitable and you had just the thing.(crispy brassica) with a side of haloumi and ferments. We have a high standard of food quality at home as I'm from a hospitality background and it is very rare that we find a place that the food is better than at home. It was sensational but if it wasn't for Mark's service and hospitality I could never return. It is rare to find stand out genuine service and in all honesty if the food is magnificent and the service is not I will not go back to an establishment. Thank you for a wonderful experience and we highly recommend Topiary.
Divine setting with beautiful food. It is definitely worth the drive to experience this very special restaurant then have a walk through the garden setting of Newman’s Nursery. Highly recommended.
Always a wonderful place to catch up with friends and enjoy a good breakfast, coffee, or walk around the gardens to pick out a plant or two to take home. Great tasting coffee and freshly baked sour dough breads to take home too. Highly recommend.
Very tasty late breakfast. A tasty variation of the standard bacon and eggs. The attached garden centre is well aid out with a comprehensive range of plants.
wonderful food and service. Local produce and the chared sourdough is amazing. No time for s second visit for lunch or dinner, will come back next time when visit again
I was pleasantly surprised by this. I didn't look too much into the menu and ordered the pumpkin dish. It was delicious and I 100% would recommend. Also very cute place to take photos!
I found this little gem right around the corner from home.
An amazing breakfast and coffee, when your finished eating you can go plant shopping from there huge range in the nursery.
