Review Golden Dragon Palace - Templestowe Lower

Getting here is quite the drive for me; it's a good 1/2 hour if traffic is ok ... so I was definitely hoping it would be worth my while. And it was. You walk into a small waiting area to be seated, and then they take you to your table and. you enter this humongous dining space. It's so huge. I think it would comfortably seat around 200+ people. With that said, however, a circular table for four can get a little hard pushed for space with all of the dishes etc. They have a good extensive menu, attentive service and while a teeny bit overpriced, it's worth it overall. One thing I didn't LOVE was the fact there was barely a trace of alcohol in my Strawberry Daiquiri. The flavour was great, but if I got stopped by the police on the way home, I'd have been totally under the radar. The only other negative is that it was hard to watch the poor live fish in such small tanks. They can hardly move around and it looked kind of cruel. All of the positives are the ample parking, good service, great food and they finish the night by giving you a delicious little dark orange chocolate if you feel like something sweet. Would I recommend it here? I give it a resounding Yes!

Never disappointed by Gold Leaf! There are all the high quality authentic dishes and dim sum available, freshly served to customers with trolleys. The managers and staff are all so friendly and helpful! The restaurant is spacious with comfortable seating. If you are craving for authentic Cantonese dim sum or dishes, you should come and visit!

We hadn't visited this restaurant previously and were very happy with our dining experience. Their yum Cha offerings were good, served piping hot and the service very attentive.

I’d been to Good Leaf Burwood a few times over the last few years, on my last yum cha session there however, the quality of food seemed to have dropped. Had quite a lot of their yum cha offerings as well as menu orders - none of the yum cha dish stood out (except maybe the durian pastry & custard buns), of the menu the roast duck was really fishy & the Singapore noodles was very bland. For the portions we got, the meals were of great value however, and the service exceeded your typical Chinese restaurants.

Great place for a get together! Nice food here as well, cannot complain. Love the ambience, classic yum cha faire and friendly staff. Would come again!

Delicious food… excellent staff… bit expensive as compared to other restaurants but worth it

Great selections, typical canton dim sum, price are good for the size of portions, book ahead so you don’t regret as they can be very busy even weekdays!

Delicious meal and great customer service! The crab is tasty and fresh! Highly recommended! Easy parking.

First time at golden dragon. Great food - everything stands alone with strong flavours, great service- the staff are efficient and welcoming and just damn good yum cha! Can’t wait to go back!
Gerry McCormick
We, two of us, had Shanghai dumplings, Peking duck, Quail, Battered crispy flounder fish fillets, steamed rice, fresh chilli, with Pu Erh Chinese tea and Heathcote Cabinet Sauvignon wine! The food and beverages were excellent, as good as any of the top Chinese restaurants! The service was impeccable! Can't wait to go back for other items on their menu eg sea cucumber, jelly fish, pigeon, abalone, shell fishetc etc....

Yum Cha today. Food was delicious. But from reception , waiter, managers and cashier at leaving point have no smile, all staff's body language to say " you are not welcome, don't come back". Refilling teapot was just dropped back to table. Lucky baby wasn't seat near of. The service was really BAD. If you ask me to recommend friends to come. I definitely not. Hope the management will do something about it.

Always a great place for Yum Cha. Service, & food delicious. Can get quite noisy. Been there a few times & has never disappointed.

Totally beautiful experience had a wonderful dining experience here with great staff and waiters. Well worth trying if you have not tried here yet. Will be back for sure. Found there was nothing to be disappointed about here.

Food was ok. Service was shocking unless you’re a regular or a white customer. Most of the waiters have a poo face, very reluctant to work there. Poo and poor service!!

Came here for a Christmas breakup. Great service, great food. Have been here before and loved it then. Like the decor all the carvings make it feel like you are in Hong Kong. Food is awesome and filling. Mango pudding lovely and refreshing. Will be back even though its a long drive from Sunbury I think worth it. Thanks.

Truly delicious food and the staff are so friendly and helpful. Thank you for a wonderful experience and for taking such great care of us.

Had an outstanding al la carte dinner, and another time amazing yum cha lunch, loved it

Great place friendly staff nothing was too much for the staff

Great environment & tasty food... Worth to spend your morning breakfast here

Great food, good choice. Probably victim of its success: I've found it difficult to just drop in on weekends, because it's always full.

Love it, great service , great food, we have a feast with our work friends, thanks boss!!

Friendly staffs, awesome food, great environment.

We had a great dinner with the Chinese New year banquet at Golden Dragon Palace. Service was top notch and the food of high calibre. This is one of our favourite places for yum cha and dinner certainly did not disappoint.

A great place for great traditional Chinese food and yum cha.

One of the remaining yumcha venues in Melbourne where you can get the authentic stuff (sesame rolls, jelly fish, beef mix to name a few), friendly staff, easy to find parking. Thats why we have been coming back for years!

We were back at Golden Dragon tonight for a family birthday and whilst this is not a restaurant I would choose of my own accord clearly my husbands family enjoys continuity so we find ourselves returning.

Tonight was the first time I encountered rude service here, I asked a waiter if we could please have some water and he responded in the most clipped of tones that I should let him do one thing at a time. It was my only request and I didn’t hear anyone else ask him to do anything so thought that was a bit uncalled for.

Anywho food the same as always tasty enough but probably slightly overpriced yet befitting of the location and decor. I’m yet to experience actually ordering my own personally selected dishes from this menu and I doubt I ever will!

Update
We attended a 60th birthday at GD recently and as we weren’t doing the ordering we got to try some new dishes including the chicken and corn soup, chicken san choi bao, stir fried beans with garlic and some steamed fish. We also had an eggplant hotpot dish which is the sort of thing I usually love and while I enjoyed it I actually preferred the chicken dish we had which had a sticky sauce and plenty of flavour. The service here is flawless and facilitated the event seamlessly and due to their size can accomodate large groups.

Original review
We went to Golden dragon for dinner last night, an impressive space with exceptional service. My water was being constantly topped up and I enjoyed the food too but it was on the somewhat pricier side.

The dumplings were nice as was the chicken satay entree albeit not very Chinese. Main wise I really enjoyed the beef noodles which was surprising as it wouldn’t have been a dish I would choose to order but it was definitely my favourite. The chicken and cashew nut was a bit bland and the honey chicken was mostly batter.

As for desserts the ice creams were very icy but I liked the gelatinous mango pudding. I also neglected to mention the peking duck pancakes were spot on. I would likely return and try some other dishes
Rita
Very good quality food which we enjoyed. Small portions however, need to be 25% more. Excellent service. Lovely ambience.

I love the decorations as you walk in and the friendliness of the staff. The food is great and a decent variety. If you are a fan of yumcha, then I suggest this is a great place! The chicken feet are well done

Great place for yum Cha with fast and great service.

A bit far from the city but the quality and speed of food presented was amazingly quick.

Need to book in advance as they are very busy during the weekend .

Must try

1. Prawn dumpling
2. Fried prawn sticks

FoodLoverQueenM
One of my favourite place in this area for yumcha. I love the noodles..taro, prawn dumplings..others also yummy. But always be waiting for booking first. Especially on weekend..
Lisa Giles
A really enjoyable yum cha experience. Decent variety of dumplings, and the staff were really attentive and also seemed happy to help out with any queries. The dumplings themselves were quite tasty, some stood out over others. But all in all we were very happy with the yum cha. They have three seatings, so it’s a little shorter than other places, but that’s purely because they are so popular.
Leechungyee1217
Rude, disrespectful, bad experience. I had dinner there with a couple non Chinese friends on Saturday night at around 7. They were taking a little time looking (10-15 mins) at the menu as they were on a pescatarian diet and weren’t familiar with Chinese food. One of our friends who understood Cantonese told us that the waiters were gossiping about us saying that we didn’t know how to order and thought we didn’t have money. Our bill came up to around $160 for four people and we paid (obviously). The waitress who served us once looked at us strange when we did not tip extra, but why would we tip when they were looking down on us?
Localfoodie 40
Best Chinese takeaway in the area by far. Delicious food, fast takeaway waiting times too. It’s a regular place, never been disappointed. It’s not really an ear in place, decor is old and dated but food is amazing

Have been to this restaurant 3 times in different years even though it is located not far from my house.

1st time
Attended a dinner organized by friends for 4 tables of 10. Total: 40 peoples. Normal 8 course dinner and we paid $50 per head. Can’t judge much of the dishes as we are sharing.

2nd time

Yum Cha with my family (6 person). Grand place for a yum Cha and many varieties. No problem finding car park.

3rd time (Year 2017)

Had dinner with my family (5 person). The food served are just average.

Great yumcha place, very very busy, but has heaps of parking outside.

Dumpling we're big and delicious, pork buns were great, Tau Fu fa was so silky and sweet. Egg tarts we're fresh and crunchy. Great service. Tea was always topped up!

Definitely rate and would come back!

The dumplings here are sooooo good even tho we came on a busy Sunday morning the food was consistently fresh! The service was quick and the waiters were attentive. A bit on the pricier side however worth every penny! 😎

On a busy Sunday lunch sitting, as per usual, opted for the $79 per head banquet. Food is good here, wouldn’t say it’s great value, but good all the same. Started with scallops with ginger and shallots, clean flavours - good start. The seafood Sam Choi Bau was simple, but certainly was a worthwhile addition. The Peking duck was fine, as it should taste. The whiting was fresh and fantastic, certainly worthwhile ordering separately in future. The king prawns in garlic sauce, a request given the sweet chilli sauce was the original option, tasted as it should, prawns were fresh, of a good size. The eye fillet with pepper sauce (alteration from mustard sauce) was definitely appreciated. Meat was tender, well cooked, the special fried rice lacked seasoning, but mixed with the sauce, it was fine. To finish, the deep fried ice cream with raspberry sauce was simple and speaks for itself. My beef with this place is the service; feeling rushed out the door, required to pay before finishing the meal; and the rushing of dishes wasn’t great, and left a negative impression. Also, it’s annoying having the servers with the yum cha carts asking what we want when it was made clear we wanted to eat a la carte. Furthermore, the menu is best enjoyed with a group of 4 or more, so you can sample more dishes. The food is good here, but the service is lacking. I’d advise to go in the evening; away from the hussle and bussel of yum cha sessions. 3.5 rating; but rated as a 3 on Zomato.
Ms.SibehTamJiak
Dining experience here varies depending on whether if you are Asian or Caucasian. Asian filled table, rogue and non attentive customer service. Caucasian mixed table, service with a smile and “How is everything?” Yumcha quite average.

30/12/17
Good service, good yum cha, pork pastry is a bit substandard but the rest of their dishes are nice. Also very nice atmosphere inside. A little on the pricier side but Will be back.

9/3/19 update. Have been back to this restaurant several times with friends and family. It’s our go to yumcha place in the east. I just made a booking for tomorrow yumcha - I was given 3 time options to choose from, whilst I was discussing these options with my family on the phone (in English), I hear the call taker sigh and said in the background “hurry up lah, I have bills to sort out” (in Cantonese). I was shocked to hear it on the phone and wanted to reply back in Cantonese and say - if you want your customers to return, you better not say these things out loud. Furious. If I recognize her voice tmr, I will give her a piece of my mind. You’re not the only yumcha place in the east and no one needs to put up with shit attitude.
Alan Tse
A good honest authentic Hong Kong yum cha. Good service, perhaps helped by communication in Cantonese! A big range of dim sum, sold from trollies pushed by Chinese ladies (and it’s always ladies). The dim sum isn’t high end but more your daily eating quality; quite acceptable for what one is expecting. Very reasonably priced @ 30 per head (and 2 kids). Some food need to be special ordered (like Cheung fun, lotus leaf sticky rice).

A group of us came here for dinner on a Sunday. We ordered a few dishes to share. My favourites were the noodles with prawns and the steamed morwong fish. The fish was cooked to perfection and was absolutely delicious. The roasted duck and other roasted meats were mediocre at best. Service was efficient.

Came here around 2 months ago for yum cha, was ok and the serves were a decent size, the only negative was that the cost was a little steep for what you get. Would I come back? If I was in the area and was craving yum cha...

Spacious restaurant with plenty of parking. Have been here twice for yum Cha and will definitely return. Good selection of yum Cha dishes to choose from and attentive service from wait staff.

They should update their business time. Not only Zomato even the time stick on their door. They close on don’t know what time. The staff refuse to tell me the closing time when I’m there on 920pm. He only told me the kitchen closed 15min ago. So, mean their last order on 9pm MAYBE.

Good dim sum, you must reserve on a weekend. My favourites were the siu Mai and the mango pudding! Special mention for the egg tart which was warm and delicious. Service is fast and brisk
Cheryl Wong
I heard about this place long time ago and finally went to have a try last week. We were not impressed by the food at all. The congee was plain and not much of a taste, the egg tart's pastry is really bad and the custard looks really runny and not well prepared.
For the price i paid for the quality of food, I will not be back any time soon.

We love Yum Cha and have been to Golden Dragon Palace many many times... today it was amazing.. Service was great and we were helped and asked many times if we were ok and needed anything.. Going the extra mile to see what the kids wanted and delivering to the table..
Quality of food was great too!!
Thanks for a great lunch!! ⭐️

F.A.S.T FOOD REVIEW

FOOD: Everything was exceptional as per usual albeit the Pork Spare Ribs which was pretty ordinary today - 4/5

AMBIENCE: Nice spacious seating between tables and I quite fancy the interior decor especially the man-sized china vases - 4/5

SERVICE: Not the most friendliest of service staff but I’ve experienced worse - 3/5

TOTAL: Overall still in the top 2 best Yum Cha restaurants in the east - 11/15

One of the best dim
Sums I have tried in Melbourne. Tasty and had great variety. Place is always busy, I won’t bother eating the vegetable dishes for the price u had to pay it was ridiculous. Apart from that, I was pretty happy. A bit on the pricey side in general and lil bit further than the usual cbd restaurants.

Best yum cha in Melbourne! Great venue, large space, great food, heaps of parking...such a popular place so must be a lot of people’s favourite! Seriously, if you haven’t tried this place, give this place a shot!

I was looking forward to Sunday yum cha but this place was a let down for me - all the things I ordinarily love were a real let down such as the pork suckling and oysters - both of which after one bite I couldn’t bring myself to have another. The prawn wrapped in bean curd and pancake with strawberry were nice but I don’t think I’ll be returning to this place again.

This is one of our local go to restaurants for family dinners, the weekend yum cha is great. The set dinners are ok too but a little on the pricey side. Not lots of vegetarian options but good quality

Quality: 🌸🌸
Service:🌸
Taste:🌸
Ambiance:🌸🌸
Value:🌸🌸

Yumcha was decent but it was a very unpleasant experience when we went to eat.

Staff were so rude to my Aunts mother, who was very old and was holding a young child as my Aunt was parking the car. Instead of going up to her and helping her, the staff ignored her. We were already sitting on the table and didn’t even know that they had arrived !

When my aunt came in, granted she was very angry. Instead of rectifying the solution, they did nothing.

Rude service. If you want quality yumcha with good service, go to Secret Kitchen.

One of the best Yum Cha places in Melb wish good selection.

Customer service is a hit and miss, sometimes to avoid long wait you have to order your food in advance but good decor and a great place to catch up with friends and family with authentic Asian food. The place is always packed so don’t forget to book in advance.
DMS
Great dim sum joint with helpful staff! My crew got there without a reservation. The maître d’ turned me down at first but due to my persistence (actually it rained all day and we just didn’t mind waiting), she put my name down and told me to wait for 20 mins.

She mentioned the second round of reservations start at 12.30. So take notes peeps, stop by around 11.45 and you probably got seated by 12.

On to the food, you feel the hustle bustle right away. Ladies are pushing their carts from table to table and they are also able to explain the ingredients which is super helpful to people with allergies such as myself. My kids got shumai and buns. Hubs got err pretty much everything he could. I opted for mussels, veggies and suckling pig.

I’m an unconventional dim sum eater because I can’t eat shrimp and dim sum is filled with shrimps. Thus, so glad this place offers dishes for me to enjoy.

Lastly don’t forget the desserts, my kids got jello, hubs got mango pudding and I got the soft tofu with simple syrup.

Got home feeling happy and full.

Have been there once before a few years ago and already knew that the food is just average. However, today I have decided to give it another go hoping perhaps the food has improved.Long story short, this is definitely the WORST yum cha place my family and I have ever been to in Melb! We were on the queue for 1:15pm service and it took ages to get in and we wonder why! The manager doesn't have any system at all to manage the booking queue. Customers have been behaved so well to line up but they kept changing the direction of the queue which has completely confused the customers!! We were at the front and the manager has suddenly changed the queue to the other side, completely ignored us and served the customers behind us! No apology at all! Really bad system to direct the customers to the allocated table therefore even after we have sat down, there were still so many empty tables since the customers are still standing in the queue because of the shit management system!Besides, a lot of the staff there seem to have preference on serving Australians first but leave the other Asians the last! One waitress pushed the food trolley across and asked the Aussie table next to us whether they want to order any of the food in the trolley. Once they finished, she just pushed the trolley out without even asked my table until I asked loudly "Excuse me!?". We are really pissed off and really shame on them. Great customer service means you need to put your customers on top and serve each one of them equally without any bias! The fact that this is a Chinese restaurant and you have a privilege on westerners? Unbelievable!Food - still very average. The chives in the chive dumplings have started turning into yellow which means the chives are clearly not fresh or they have pre-made the dumplings. Pastry of the egg tart is not fluffy at all. Overall, very disappointed experience and will for certain never come back again!
Davisco Sprincorza
Not to bad, good selection of food for yum cha, except if you wait around to long the food on the trolley may get cold or dry, was the case when i was there which was unfortunate.
Bear Noms
One of my favourite yum cha spots! Beautifully decorated interior and more importantly, has a good variety of selection to choose from. Don’t forget to call to book for a table.

It's a big restaurant. It can accommodate many customers at once and on weekends it is packed which means their food is good. It's a good place to catch up with family and friends. The staff are friendly and attentive. They always come to your table with a different type of food to choose from. The food tasted good. It was a very busy but friendly and welcoming ambience and vibe. If you want to have a quiet lunch or dinner this is not the place. I'd come back and recommend to others.
Sarah Loves Food
I went here with Hello. Imnikki and Timinmelbourne and their partners last Saturday. I’ve been here years ago with other friends and I remember that I really liked it. So I suggested Golden Dragon Palace.

It was a bit tricky to get to our table at first because it felt like the lady who was seating people were ignoring us but we got there in the end. Bearabbit’s partner did a lot of the ordering and she also ordered what we wanted. I had to have my cheong fun with prawns and this was the best one I’ve had in ages. The rice paper sheets were silky and not grainy and the prawns were nice. We also ordered another cheong fun like dish with a fried dough stick and some rice which was interesting, it’s something I’ll order again. We had chicken feet which was delicious but so hard to eat with the bones hehehe. The dumplings and everything else was tasty, I can’t go into detail about them because we ordered so much and I’ve left it more than a week to write this review so I don’t remember much hahaha.

I was excited to try the lava bun but it wasn’t runny but it still tasted good. There was also some kind of layer cake thingy for dessert which I wasn’t a huge fan of but it was ok.

The people working here seemed nice. One thing I liked about the service is when we ordered dishes we didn’t seem to wait too long for them. The main reason why I hardly ever go here is because my friends find it too expensive but I think the yum cha here is better quality than some other places.
I definitely spent a lot more than I would with my friends but we did order heaps of food and it was great to try new things. I would like to come back here.
Hello. Imnikki
I have been wanting to try the yum cha at Golden Dragon Palace so when Sarah Loves Food suggested this place, I was delighted. Along with Sarah and Timinmelbourne and his partner, we indulged in a wide variety of dishes, some that I didn't even had time to take pictures of.

My partner got tasked with ordering and I think he got a bit excited, and kept the dishes coming. It's usually hard to go crazy when it's just the two of us yum cha-ing so I didn't try to stop him. Luckily we didn't get any dud dishes, except for the non-flowy lava bun which I think was because we left it a bit too long. Our bad!

Highlights for me was the chicken feet and eggplant yong tau foo - great flavours and well seasoned. The suckling pig was good but a bit costly.

A solid yum cha experience in a clean and bright environment, with trolleys rumbling by nonstop. The wait staffs were helpful, but only in respect to their specific tasks which was quite typical of yum cha service.
Timinmelbourne
I had yum cha here on the weekend w my partner, Hello. Imnikki, her partner and Sarah Loves Food.

What a great way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon. This restaurant is easy to find as it’s BIG on the outside and big on the inside.

The service was good, friendly and the trolleys were constant. All good.

The food was really good, and we had sooo many different dishes that I had to go home and lay down hahaha

The food was fresh and the company lovely. What a perfect day!

This place is definitely worth a visit but you mist book on weekends.
Love Food
We came here due to the rating of this establishment. This place is very busy, the staff are quite helpful. The food here is just ok. Average yumcha place. Its not expensive. It’s nice but I don’t feel there is a ‘wow’ factor that would attract me back here.
Sam
I went there for dinner with my friends , the crab taste good , but the noodle base was a bit bland . Truffle prawn was sensational, highly recommend that dish . Overall , dishes were quite bland , chef need to add more salt to their dishes .
Espy Eats
Caught up with friends from across town over yum cha this morning. We got the the first session of the day. I was initially concerned that the 1 hour 15 minutes we were allotted to eat pay and leave wouldn’t be enough time but I might have known this wouldn’t be an issue.

Service here was a step above other yum cha restaurants I’ve been to around Melbourne. A little politeness from staff comes at a price as this was also probably one of the more expensive I had attended. Great variety and very responsive staff turn the room with carts. All the usual suspects here and my favourite coconut custard steamed buns were exceptional as were the custard tarts. I generally prefer steamed dim sum while the others in our group tenders towards the fried options I normally steer clear of. I didn’t see chicken feet on any of the carts and that was a sad omission.

While I loved the dining here I did suffer from bill shock. I knew that steamed broccoli is always considered most expensive but I wasn’t ready for the cost of the suckling pork with crackling. This came dish cost $26 by itself and is the most I have ever paid for anything at a yum cha session. Our bill came to $180 for 4 adults and 2 kids but we clearly made some expensive choices.
Sourjunky
Been here many times for yum cha, lunches and dinners. Food here is better than some of the ones around the area. Restaurant itself is very comfortable to dine in. Could be a bit on the pricy side, just depends whether you're happy to pay for quality.
Frog
One of the best yum cha out this way but can be a bit pricy. Service and ambiance and very good and the food is delicious but not very innovative.
Tanya
Need to keep bottle vinegar on the table, it's annoying that you only get a little dish of vinegar. Apart from that great setting and delicious food, a bit pricey though.
Jack Jones
Booked a dinner for large group. No prior notice that they charge $38 pp as minimum; only told the night before. When I asked the manager why there was no prior notice (ie at time of booking), he replied "You did not ask". When I asked why a minimum charge was necessary, he replied "It's expensive to run a restaurant".
Don't bother. The food is not good enough to justify high prices and deceptive conduct.
YummyMummy
Consistently excellent yum Cha... if you want to impress, enjoy quality yum Cha, great variety, efficient service in a classic atmosphere and don’t mind paying a bit more for the experience then this is the place. We find it’s easy to spend $30+ per head (incl kids) without drinks and without overindulging. On the down, the service can be a bit too swift and the weekend sessions a bit short but on the plus as well as a great range of savoury they have lots of choices of dessert - without Aussie flags stuck in jelly cubes.. and they have baked sago, my all time favourite that’s getting hard to find elsewhere. My favourite for a little more of a treat than your average Sunday yum Cha, highly recommended!!
Happyley
Dinner here is quite decent and service is friendly, especially the manager. If you request less salt or msg in your dishes they will happily oblige. I was particularly happy with our fresh steamed barramundi. Delightful indeed. I was a bit disappointed by the Peking duck. They didn’t cut it in front of us or make it for us. They just put slices of duck, pieces of pancakes and the rest of the condiments in front of us to serve. Apart from that I was pleased overall and would return for a family dinner occasionally.
NZAURUSS
Went there for yumcha as a family of five. Had to book in advance, and only for 1 hour - the place is REALLY busy! Heaps of people by 12.30 pm, all tables were full.
Food quality was very good, service - excellent. Tastes and flavours - very good! Fancy but relaxed atmosphere...Prices were pretty decent for such a seemingly posh place - $125 for five people.
Overall - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!.
Flabnbone Food
We visited Golden Dragon Palace for dinner. The interior is very grand and fancy. To match that is the rather expensive menu. We had the:
1) XO Scallops - the XO sauce was nice but the scallops were very chewy.

2) Asian Greens - fresh and crunchy, but had an oily taste to it.

3) Mongolian Beef - the beef was very tender and the dish had good flavour. I would have loved it if the serving size was bigger especially for the price.

4) Poached Chicken - well cooked.

Overall, a good place to go if with you want a more "fancy" atmosphere. Food is pretty good but expensive. I don't like how Golden Dragon doesn't provide guests with complimentary soup at the start, rice for the mains and fruit at the end. Most Asian restaurants usually provide that free of charge. For the price paid, it would be good to have those additions.

Instagram @Flabnbone_Food

Very bad customer service, staff at front desk treated customers with disrespect. Understandably that the restaurant was busy but there is no need for rudeness. Food was poor and had dropped in quality. Waste of my valuable time and money.
Lucy26
One of our lunchtime hit ups, the food is always consistently good. The yum cha fare here is one of the best in the area. Service is fantastic unlike some places that make you feel like a number. Always clean and busy which is what we like to see!

Heavy rain in the morning, but still has many customers. although the food here tastes rather bland, it’s healthier. Crispy skin pork is very nice.
Una
Food is ok, service is terrible, no smile , talk very rude, we did not finish meal, they started to clean up and billed us without asking. We want to order something ,and the waitress keep saying someone else will service us ,until 45mins later finally someone serviced us, but we must finish within 1 hour by their rule. We never go back anymore!!

First time visited this restaurant with my family. took us nearly 2hours return drive and reception people very rudely told me we can eat for one hour only! First time heard something like this except buffet restaurant! Services are terrible And all the food tasted just so so there are plenty of better restaurant around Melbourne area. I truly want to mark them 0, but no this option.

Decent yum cha in a fancy smancy setting. Good variety of YC on the carts served by a friendly crew. Wasn’t as busy as I’d expect for a weekend crowd in this area. Although spacious enough, they still need to work on some of their table placements as we had to adjust our chair positions like seriously 4 times to accommodate the carts for them to reach a table in a corner. Got abit annoying after the third time as we got interrupted mid eating. Reasonable price for a table of 5 that worked out to be just under $30 per person for the usual YC orders.

Fresh and hot food. Quality is consistent. Only have dined here a handful amount of times, but my fiancé would go weekly if allowed. Wonderful selection of freshly cooked and steamed dumplings, spring rolls, buns, ect with desserts offered at the end. Servers are lovely and friendly.

The best Yum Cha outside the Flowerdrum and Melbourne CBD hands down...

Get the chilli sauce, yum.

A professional and personal favourite.
Dinner service however does not do anything for me.

(Edit : dinner service is now fantastic)

Great place for yum cha! Everything was very tasty and fresh and best of all the service is pretty good! Really good variety of dishes, my absolute favorite dish was the tofu with prawn paste on top. The tofu was soft and eggy, it was so delicious I got a second one!

Whilst not the best yum cha I have had it is by far not the worst either. Dishes are tasty and seem to come around on a regular basis. Drinks are expensive however for what you get - worth a look

We come here whenever we get our yum cha craving which can range from occasionally to more often.
Food here is always very good, good variety
Its a bit pricey for my liking but its got enough people all the time who obviously dont think its too expensive.

Service is a little up and down but isnt that what yum cha is about. HOWEVER, to the middle aged lady working on Tuesday in the cashier area, Don't outright lie to customers! We had been here twice in a week, the first time we split a bill 2 ways, without a problem. to be barked at "We dont do split bills here, never have", to which we replied, we split just a few days ago, to be barked back "you will be charged surcharge" and grumpily snatches the plate away and comes back with separate payments

We're not stupid, what happened to the good old "losing face".

An old favourite for yum cha. Reliably good food, and one of the nicer decors and ambience for yum cha - feels less 'packed' and busy than your usual places.
Willtravelforfood17
Good place to yum cha - must book as it gets very busy on weekends. They have 3 sessions on weekends. A good variety of dim sum on trolleys.

Pretty decent Chinese food in a cosy little location of mannigham rd, price is average for the area although it can add up really fast if you get excited!! There's an element of time warping In here although I don't really mind that sometimes, it reminds me of the early 90's going out with the family to a Chinese resturant

Worst ever service and experience. Not kids friendly at all.
We had the 11am yum cha session during the weekend. My kid dropped his napkin on the floor and I quickly picked it up by myself. One of the waiter just walked pass and said to my kid : "You're quite a naught kid!" in Cantonese.
I ordered a bowl of jelly for my kids and they are sharing the jelly. So I requested a extra bowl from a dessert trolley. The trolley is fully of plates and bowls. The lady just passed me a plate instead of a bowl. She just said : " I got more plates than bowls! Take the plate!" in mandarin.
Their attitudes very rude and totally didn't expected this kind of service even paying $50 per person.

Very cosy and warm place with decent food and good service. Price is ok and worth the wait. Recommended. Given that I am a yum chá lover this place just been added to my favorite list.

Great food and great service (maybe a little full on initially)/ When we wanted to pay were told we had to pay the credit card fee for eftpos. I argued the point and was then told if it was a split eft[pos payment I would incur a credit card fee. When I again argued, the bill was split between the two payees without a problem. Just keep this in mind. You DO NOT pay fees for using eftpos! Be wary!

Dined here to celebrate Mother's Day. Made an appointment for guests plus pram and was promptly seated as soon as we arrived. Others that showed up on the day got turned away.

Decor and ambience deserves 5 stars. Food was above average apart from some dishes that could be slightly refined, but that would be nitpicking. Overall a great place and would def come back.
Alliwantisgoodfood
+: One of the better yum cha places. Most selections are good (try the pineapple bun)

-: not a good idea to go without a reservation, especially weekends

Came here for Yum Cha on Sunday Morning. Booked for the first session as they have 3 on Sunday was a bit sceptical that a hour would be enough to enjoy the food. When we walked in such a beautiful restaurant aa soon as we were seated we got offered drinks then food started coming out straight off the bat. Food was delicious and was authentic and fresh! and service was fast! Was full after half a hour! Good variety of food! overall a good experience and good service

When we arrived, there wasn't a line but by the time we left there was such a long queue it flowed out to the car park. It shows it's certainly a very popular restaurant.

The decor was nice and felt clean and spacious which is better than many other yum cha places that are usually more cramped.

The trolleys came frequently and the menu was extensive. They had all of our favourites but our staples were done poorly. My husband even failed to finish the fried calamari, one of his favourite dishes. The spare ribs and chicken feet were also a bit on the bland side while the dumplings were OK.

It was also on the more pricy side of things when it comes to yum cha.

Overall we were impressed with the service and decor but were left underwhelmed with the food itself.

An average dim sum place overall.
Firstly, service was mediocre. I booked a table but still had to wait for 15 minutes past my booking time. After getting our seat, food was served pretty quickly though. However, had to call a waiter 4 times for an extra pair of chopsticks as they sometimes just ignore your call.

Environment was comfortable and felt homey, but dim sum is quite pricey and the food was only average. Overall an ordinary experience.

What a surprise, Unassuming from the outside but inside ,you could think you were in a fine dining Hong Kong restaurant.
Service was good to ok, but the food was very good. Fresh ingredients cooked expertly.
I would rate this better than some of the higher rated city chinese restaurants, at a fraction of the price.
Highly recommend. I will definitely return

Impressed. The food was *really* good - packed with flavour. Better than most other Chinese places I've been to. The place isn't fancy but if you're looking for good food thats reasonably priced, I'd recommend it. We fed 4 people for under $100, inc coffees, corkage & some leftover doggie bags.
Cynthia Giang
A little pricier in terms of other yum cha joints I have been to, but the place looks cleaner and the service is more professional than other joints. The dumplings are standard; enough to suffice dumpling cravings :)

One of the best Cantonese yum cha place I have been in Melbourne. All dim sums are nicely done which gave ppl like me a homey feel of yum cha. The water chestnut fried sweet cake is a must order. It's definitely closest to Hong Kong style.
Maidstone Yana
The food was good.

However, all I could remember was the grand piano. It was covered with a cloth during lunch time, where waiters put bowls and plates.

It was an eyesore. It is a musical instrument. If no one plays it, get rid of it.
Michael Chien
Good yum cha and chinese tea. Good service. Especially the prawn dumplings, beef tripe and chicken feet taste good. Will come back again for yum cha.

A nice Yum Cha place in Doncaster, reasonable price with a wide variety of dishes.
Busy during lunchtime, so best call and make a reservation.
I love the Chicken Feet and Egg Tart. The steamed dumplings are a little sticky, filling is good though.

Good place but seating period was too short! Only allowed an hour to eat and was pretty much rushing into my meal. We had a number of dim sums but my favourite was the egg tart, vegetarian dumplings, chicken feet and the prawn dumplings. Had strawberry pancake for dessert and tea was cold. Service was average but I wouldn't return just because I would much rather enjoy my meal.

A frequent diner at Chinese Restaurants, was recommended to visit Golden Dragon Palace for dinner. Decided to come with my family last Sunday. Upon arrival, was warmly welcomed by a young male waiter. Was kindly asked by the same waiter whether we wanted any drinks to begin with, soon after, one of the managers helped us order.

Pros: Friendly, attentive waiters, contemporary Chinese interior design, fresh classic Cantonese flavours, flavoursome dishes

Cons: A bit pricey for Chinese cuisine, dishes are quite small in portion

Overall, a pleasant experience, leaving the restaurant with a satisfied palate. However, i over heard one of the managers yelling at one of the waiters, which wasn't a pleasant experience.

We came here for yumcha on a Sunday afternoon, and managed to book the last table for the 1:30pm sitting at around 12:45pm. Upon arrival, there is complete chaos, with all the other patrons for this sitting crowded around the small entrance room jostling for entrance. If you are a small group, chances are that your table will be ready, so push ahead of the larger groups (probably clogging the entrance) so you can be seated.

Inside, the tables are arranged with respectable spacing, and you definitely don't feel like you are sitting on top of one another. The service is prompt, with waiters immediately wheeling their trolleys full of food to your table. It is easy to gain the attention of one of the staff members, and they are quick with all your requests.

The food is incredible. The quality of the yumcha dishes - all the dumplings and other small dishes - are hot, well cooked and generous in size. I really enjoyed all the dishes we ate, and found them all a tier above the usual yumcha restaurants we frequent. Probably the only dish I didn't love was the 'cheong fun' (the white rice noodle rolls with usually either pork or prawn inside) - it was dished out cold, and the noodle was a bit thick.

Of course, this quality is reflected in their prices, but it is definitely worth it if you want to splurge for a special occasion or are simply craving good Chinese yumcha.

A good Yum Cha place.
Price is reasonable.
Services are really good actually compared with other Cantonese restaurant in city.

A wide variety of choice.
I personally find the salt egg yolk bun too sweet.

Great traditional Yum Cha in Templestowe based on the old style. BBQ pork bun excellent. You must book & plan ahead as it gets busy. You are free to order from the menu if what you require is not available from the trolleys. We enjoy coming this place very much.

Great yumcha in Doncaster, and much better than the Gold Lead nearby in my opinion.

Traditional style with waiters/waitresses pushing trolleys and carts full of deliciousness around the restaurant which you can pick and order from. Choose the har gaw, the siu mai, the dumplings, the BBQ pork bun, the pork ribs, the chicken feet, the cheong fun. They are all delicious.

Make sure you call ahead and make a reservation though as they are very crowded.

Time: Monday night dinner,
Service: We experienced exceptional service, the waiters were very attentive.

Atmosphere: Nice decor, very traditional feel. Considering the restaurant has been around for a long time very well maintained. A touch of classiness

Food: We picked some items from the menu, all tasted authentic Chinese made quality ingredient. Presentation and proportions were standard.

Cost: This place is on the pricey side for Chinese, but you do get your money worth.

This has always been a restaurant I have wanted to try... now I wish I came here sooner - Will be back, maybe try the yum cha next time...

Quiet this evening. No need to pre book. Place is over populated with Chinese ornaments.
Order taken by manager, with recommendations and not over doing it. Service inconsistent, depends on the staff serving you.
Food is above average in quality. Price is compatible with other Chinese restaurant in Melb.

Been here a few times over the years I find this place expensive and food average.

But when I was served up this beef roll I don't think I would come back anymore. This is what's found after the top piece was removed. Do they have respect for the customers, or their profession or even for themselves? It looks like someone had walked all over it.

And the har gau! Sigh! pastry thick and the filling smell and taste like raw prawns.
DanieTheSushiLover
With oriental chinese decor, tempered glass partitions and wooden carvings this place screamed high end delicious food. The food however was sadly lacking. We ordered the soup dumplings which were not soupy AT ALL. The sieu mai was dry and tasteless. The only redeeming quality were the egg tarts. Crumbly pastry. A slightly sweetened and glossy top covered soft eggy melt in your mouth goodness.

This is a great place for yum cha with a wide variety of dishes on offer. It's decor makes me feel like I've stepped back in time to China of old.

The only drawbacks of dining here are that the dishes tend to be dearer and that there is a particular waiter who can tend to be curt and abrasive. To avoid the inter-session changeover rush if you like to chat and linger a while, go for a later session.

First of all they stuffed up the booking. Booked it in advance Tuesday for Saturday lunch and when we turned up we didn't have a booking so as another family who were right next us waiting for the restaurant management to figure out space. After 30 mins wait we got in. To be honest food wasn't that bad although i have tried better yum cha. It's the poor service rudeness of staff that was appalling. Whilst i was having my food was reminded that there are other people waiting and vacate the table. They totally forgot we were in late because of their stuff up. Even though they saw us still eating decided to take our food away. Very poor service. I wouldn't recommend anyone going there. Not for a good dining experience!!

DO: The usual suspects from the trolleys; Har Gaw, Siu Mai, Shark fin dumpling, BBQ pork Bun and Chicken feet etc.

DON'T: Be afraid to order from the waiters if you can't find what you're after on the trolleys

TIP: Nominate the person with the most yum cha knowledge to sit closest to trolley path and keep your order form in clear sight to make it easier for the waiteresses.

We normally only come here when we have guests and we're after a Yum Cha place that has s little ambience. With a beautiful chandelier in their waiting area, huge oriental vases and traditional style (but heavy chairs) this place isn't your typical tacky interior Chinese restaurant. The waitresses pushing the carts here are actually friendly and crack a smile. The range and spread of Yum Cha dishes is standard. The only thing worth writing home about is their hot egg yolk custard buns. Yum yum.
