First time at golden dragon. Great food - everything stands alone with strong flavours, great service- the staff are efficient and welcoming and just damn good yum cha! Can’t wait to go back!
We, two of us, had Shanghai dumplings, Peking duck, Quail, Battered crispy flounder fish fillets, steamed rice, fresh chilli, with Pu Erh Chinese tea and Heathcote Cabinet Sauvignon wine! The food and beverages were excellent, as good as any of the top Chinese restaurants! The service was impeccable! Can't wait to go back for other items on their menu eg sea cucumber, jelly fish, pigeon, abalone, shell fishetc etc....
We had a great dinner with the Chinese New year banquet at Golden Dragon Palace. Service was top notch and the food of high calibre. This is one of our favourite places for yum cha and dinner certainly did not disappoint.
A great place for great traditional Chinese food and yum cha.
One of the remaining yumcha venues in Melbourne where you can get the authentic stuff (sesame rolls, jelly fish, beef mix to name a few), friendly staff, easy to find parking. Thats why we have been coming back for years!
We were back at Golden Dragon tonight for a family birthday and whilst this is not a restaurant I would choose of my own accord clearly my husbands family enjoys continuity so we find ourselves returning.
Tonight was the first time I encountered rude service here, I asked a waiter if we could please have some water and he responded in the most clipped of tones that I should let him do one thing at a time. It was my only request and I didn’t hear anyone else ask him to do anything so thought that was a bit uncalled for.
Anywho food the same as always tasty enough but probably slightly overpriced yet befitting of the location and decor. I’m yet to experience actually ordering my own personally selected dishes from this menu and I doubt I ever will!
Update
We attended a 60th birthday at GD recently and as we weren’t doing the ordering we got to try some new dishes including the chicken and corn soup, chicken san choi bao, stir fried beans with garlic and some steamed fish. We also had an eggplant hotpot dish which is the sort of thing I usually love and while I enjoyed it I actually preferred the chicken dish we had which had a sticky sauce and plenty of flavour. The service here is flawless and facilitated the event seamlessly and due to their size can accomodate large groups.
Original review
We went to Golden dragon for dinner last night, an impressive space with exceptional service. My water was being constantly topped up and I enjoyed the food too but it was on the somewhat pricier side.
The dumplings were nice as was the chicken satay entree albeit not very Chinese. Main wise I really enjoyed the beef noodles which was surprising as it wouldn’t have been a dish I would choose to order but it was definitely my favourite. The chicken and cashew nut was a bit bland and the honey chicken was mostly batter.
As for desserts the ice creams were very icy but I liked the gelatinous mango pudding. I also neglected to mention the peking duck pancakes were spot on. I would likely return and try some other dishes
Very good quality food which we enjoyed. Small portions however, need to be 25% more. Excellent service. Lovely ambience.
I love the decorations as you walk in and the friendliness of the staff. The food is great and a decent variety. If you are a fan of yumcha, then I suggest this is a great place! The chicken feet are well done

Great place for yum Cha with fast and great service.
A bit far from the city but the quality and speed of food presented was amazingly quick.
Need to book in advance as they are very busy during the weekend .
Must try
1. Prawn dumpling
2. Fried prawn sticks
One of my favourite place in this area for yumcha. I love the noodles..taro, prawn dumplings..others also yummy. But always be waiting for booking first. Especially on weekend..
A really enjoyable yum cha experience. Decent variety of dumplings, and the staff were really attentive and also seemed happy to help out with any queries. The dumplings themselves were quite tasty, some stood out over others. But all in all we were very happy with the yum cha. They have three seatings, so it’s a little shorter than other places, but that’s purely because they are so popular.
Best Chinese takeaway in the area by far. Delicious food, fast takeaway waiting times too. It’s a regular place, never been disappointed. It’s not really an ear in place, decor is old and dated but food is amazing
Have been to this restaurant 3 times in different years even though it is located not far from my house.
1st time
Attended a dinner organized by friends for 4 tables of 10. Total: 40 peoples. Normal 8 course dinner and we paid $50 per head. Can’t judge much of the dishes as we are sharing.
2nd time
Yum Cha with my family (6 person). Grand place for a yum Cha and many varieties. No problem finding car park.
3rd time (Year 2017)
Had dinner with my family (5 person). The food served are just average.
Getting here is quite the drive for me; it's a good 1/2 hour if traffic is ok ... so I was definitely hoping it would be worth my while. And it was.
You walk into a small waiting area to be seated, and then they take you to your table and. you enter this humongous dining space. It's so huge. I think it would comfortably seat around 200+ people. With that said, however, a circular table for four can get a little hard pushed for space with all of the dishes etc.
They have a good extensive menu, attentive service and while a teeny bit overpriced, it's worth it overall. One thing I didn't LOVE was the fact there was barely a trace of alcohol in my Strawberry Daiquiri. The flavour was great, but if I got stopped by the police on the way home, I'd have been totally under the radar. The only other negative is that it was hard to watch the poor live fish in such small tanks. They can hardly move around and it looked kind of cruel.
All of the positives are the ample parking, good service, great food and they finish the night by giving you a delicious little dark orange chocolate if you feel like something sweet. Would I recommend it here? I give it a resounding Yes!
Never disappointed by Gold Leaf! There are all the high quality authentic dishes and dim sum available, freshly served to customers with trolleys. The managers and staff are all so friendly and helpful! The restaurant is spacious with comfortable seating. If you are craving for authentic Cantonese dim sum or dishes, you should come and visit!
We hadn't visited this restaurant previously and were very happy with our dining experience. Their yum Cha offerings were good, served piping hot and the service very attentive.
Great place for a get together! Nice food here as well, cannot complain. Love the ambience, classic yum cha faire and friendly staff. Would come again!
Delicious food… excellent staff… bit expensive as compared to other restaurants but worth it
Great selections, typical canton dim sum, price are good for the size of portions, book ahead so you don’t regret as they can be very busy even weekdays!
Delicious meal and great customer service! The crab is tasty and fresh! Highly recommended!
Easy parking.
