We stayed in Austinmer recently and the owner of our accommodation recommended this restaurant for dinner. It didn't disappoint. We had a lovely meal. We loved the Asian influences and everything we tried was delicious. The service was great too and all the staff members were friendly and helpful. The restaurant has a fun atmosphere and we really enjoyed the evening. Given the quality of the food being served, we thought it was good value too. Make sure you book - it's a popular place.
Amazing food! I Even wanted things off the kids menu! It also had really friendly waiters and great costumer service. There are two water dragons that hang around outside to 😄😄😄

You’ll find South Sailor on Lawrence Hargrave Drive just a block back from the golden sands of Thirroul beach. With a super-popular outdoor dining area and curbside tables under nautical striped navy and white umbrellas sitting on an AstroTurf lawn, it’s aimed directly at the sandy-feet crowd. Everyone is sporting a tan; and swim suit tops, singlets, hats and sunglasses seem to be an unofficial dress code.Inside there’s a small interior dining space filled with blonde wood tables and rattan chairs. The white paling walls are highlighted with vintage palm tree wallpaper. It opens out into a larger room where window tables are backed by a limited amount of bar seating in front of a tiny bar lined with fish-scale tiles in alternating shades of blue. With them running very close to their hundred people capacity during the busy lunch service when I visited, I was glad to see them turning away folks just looking for takeaway fish and chips. Gin is heavily featured on the beverage list, with an eye-catching Sunset Sour ($17) made on Husk Farm Distillery’s Ink Gin. Coloured with...
On our first visit to South sailor we had come down to Thirroul for a beach break.
We asked around for a good place to eat and were told about a sea food – sushi bar restaurant, well that sounded great to us.
We arrived and were greeted by friendly staff who asked us if we had made a reservation, the place was busy with inside and outside seating, we replied ‘no we haven’t do you think you can fit us in?’ She replied ‘yes I’m sure we can would you like to have a drink at the bar while I find you a table’. That was easy.
The restaurant décor inside is beautifully designed with themes of the ocean with tropical overtones with cool vibe tunes playing on the sound system. There is also a salt water tropical fish tank that all the children seem to very taken by.
Shortly we were taken to our table and how was our luck we were seated outside and on that particular evening there was live entertainment. The décor outside is pleasant with a canopy overhead, comfortable seating. Down the back of the garden there is a grassy area and a cubby house for the children to play in, perfect. So we are outside the vibe and music are great, lets eat.
Our menu’s arrived, and there it’s lots to choose from and varied so something for everyone, from fish tacos, Poke bowls (sashimi and salad), Grilled Barramundi, Nepalese fish and prawn curry to… Korean fried chicken.
We went straight to raw bar section and started with the south coast oysters with the South Sailor sauce, delicious! Followed by the Fish Tacos Japanese inspired with a fresh Tuna poke bowl and the grilled Barramundi.
There is also a great wine selection (happy).
Every dish was presented beautifully and tasted fabulous.
With our belly’s full and a glass of wine left we sat back and enjoyed the music from local talent. Yes we are definitely going back!
Had the seafood platter for two - really good.
The cured ocean trout and the taco are the standouts.
Yuzu salad is amazing.
Ambience is smart casual and service is attentive.
Great menu, just the right mix. Short but with an option to suit everyone. Loved the little covered garden dining area. I would highly recommend this place. We had the paella. The 79$ blanc de blanc method champagne was worth it!
Great food and atmosphere.
The seafood is really fresh and tasty. I usually don't eat seafood but it was so fresh that I actually enjoyed eating it.
Got the paella for 2 and the burrata with some drinks and dessert. Will be coming back to try out the other dishes.
Um… yummmmm!! I ordered some yum, and some yummy on the side, and boy was it delicious. Especially when the scrumptious came with extra tasty on top… wow!! Taste buds will explode, highly recommend ordering the delectable with your meal, if you’re into mouth watering choices that it. We’ll be back for sure!
Myself and my husband dined here last night and we loved it. A great menu with a good selection of different seafood and none seafood options, inspired by different countries and cultures. The seafood was really fresh and tasty. The flavours were great. Service was very friendly and attentive but not over the top. This place has a great vibe and we'll definitely be back!
Had the BEST meal with my friend here. As someone who is gluten, garlic, and onion intolerant, there are definitely a couple of options here for you. The staff was great at taking me through the menu and double checking ingredients for me. My friend and I both thought the food was superb (the meringue and berries were SO good; we were both a little shocked), but the highlight was definitely the staff taking our joke 'special request' seriously and providing a photo of Danny Devito to us upon arrival.
Absolutely the perfect afternoon lunch spot. Staff are friendly and accommodating, so engaging and just pleasant. Great vibes.
The food. Incredible. So fresh, very quick delivery even on a busy Saturday. We left completely satisfied and would definitely recommend.
The scallop prawn sushi roll’s are spectacular.
Fabulous little seafood and sushi restaurant. The dumplings were amazing, and the bbq octopus was perfectly cooked and dressed. The bar staff were complete legends (Gin cocktails were on point!) however the front of house staff didn't seem to want us to be there and did not want to engage with any questions about the menu. Overall a great value lunch.
A fish & chips shop that is much more than fish & chips, with a Japanese touch. The food was ok, portions were of medium size, prices a bit above average.
