Best breakfast I've had for years!!! Amazing breakfast simply perfect best poached eggs I've ever had and gluten free bread was so soft yummy both our dishes where delicious and service was welcoming and fast! Can't wait to come back to Melbourne just to visit.. would love to see a barista almond milk for my coffee as the almond milk split..but besides this the breakfast and service was 10/10!! Well done.
Beautiful lunch and coffees. The pesto eggs were amazing and my partner loved his salmon with betroot relish dish. Really impressed with the quality of the meals, and the portion sizes were fantastic for the price. Staff were very attentive and wonderfully friendly. We will be back!!

We came here on a whim but we are also working our way down a High Street Cafes. Short Round keeps the standard high. They staff were great at accommodating us on a cold morning and we sat outside for a while but in 10 minutes we were inside and ordering.
The hot chocolate was real chocolate/cocoa. The menu was extensive and great healthy choices. I had the beans and instantly fell in love.
Staff were fast, efficient and friendly. $70 fit 3 of us is in par and we left satiated and well fed.
Toilets - clean. Parking easy on weekend. Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly.
We will return.
Came with friends and it was so busy we nearly walked past, but the staff were friendly and efficient. Food came out relatively quickly given how full the cafe was.
I had the avo on dark rye and added a poached egg which was the right choice. A surprisingly filling dish, the egg was perfectly cooked, but a few more tomatoes would have been nice. Breakfast companions were happy with their choices, but would have liked something more to sop up their egg on the fritters dish.
We adored this cafe. We would score it a 4.6 out of 5.
It’s a pretty funky and buzzy place here. The fit out is nice with a few really lovely touches. The spring menu was on today, probably because it’s spring. It wasn’t the autumn one posted currently online in various spots. It’s a pretty good menu I’d have to say. It wasn’t easy to make a meal choice.
I started with a coffee. It was spectacularly good. A seriously stunning long black with warm milk. It will stay in my memory for a long time as it was off the scale good. I attempted to tell the barista she was a genuis. It turned out to be the manager who promised to pass the message to the barista who had popped out for a minute. I tried my partner’s skinny flat white to see if that measured up as well. It was a beauty too. Even I could make the conclusion. And that is, this is a very very serious coffee venue.
I tried a Bloody Mary as well. This too was faultless. The key points being it’s a nice size, the spice is perfect, the amount of ice appropriate and restrained. The spice in the drink is superb I’d have to say. Enough throat grab to thrill, but held back enough to avoid being overwhelmed. I’ve tried this drink across Melbourne and abroad. Trust me, the one here is an absolute beauty. Bravo.
My chosen meal was a beautiful dish. Ham hock, lentils, eggs, cheesy scones and added grilled asparagus. The dish was excellent. The scones were utterly beautiful. Thrillingly cheesy and just soooo tasty. The cheese flavour was perfect, just as perfect as the eggs in the dish. The lentils were marvellous too, the ham hock really flavoursome as well. The grilled asparagus I’d added to the dish worked superbly. It too was just beautifully cooked. This dish was excellent. I loved it and so did my partner who had also ordered the exact same thing. The sign of a great dish to me is indecision about what to have as the last mouthful. My indecision today covered five elements in the dish.
Service is very efficient here. It is also cooly distant in the manner consistent with all sorts of trend setting people wandering in and out. We liked it
We thought this was a fantastic place. It’s a gem and hence I is highly recommended.
I was here for lunch today with a friend and really enjoyed the food. The menu is small with an equal mix of sweet and savoury dishes, quite classic to cafes here. The coffee and tea selection is great, there's also a small selection of cocktails and wines. I ordered a Mimosa, refreshing just as it should be. And also got the Green chilli folded eggs with chorizo, crispy black beans and Persian fetta. Also got some mushrooms and jalapeno jam as extras which paired perfectly with the dish. Excellent dish....can't fault a thing; the eggs were a dream and that jalapeno jam to die for. Should go back to try more dishes.
Incredible brekky. The atmosphere is very contemporary with a menu to match. The service was fantastic and the food even better. The brioche burger was so full of flavour and all the elements worked perfectly together!
One of my favourite brunch places in the inner north! Friendly service and consistent food/coffee. The menu changes every once in a while and there’s always a dish that I love and go back to!
Cute spot for brekkie or lunch in Thornbury! Staff are always friendly, the atmosphere is nice with groovy interior design and lots of natural light! Food can be somewhat hit and miss but they do have menus that change seasonally, meaning there are always new things to try and there also seems to be constant improvement that comes with! Food can be a little bit pricey but that goes along with most of the trendy cafes in the area.
There wasn’t one scrap on my plate after going to short round! The bread with this meal below was honestly the best. Read I’ve had in a long time, crunchy and soft! The venue is cool too, a great vibe and he staff were lovely and attentive! And most importantly, great coffe :)
My parents are nothing if not creatures of habit, which is how Mr WFYB and I found ourselves traipsing to their favourite creperie Le Café Flo in Thornbury. Alas, the creperie had decided to take its New Year break later than everyone else and was shut.
This place is quality. It's not that it's the best cafe going around, but what it does, it does well. Great decor and interesting spacial plan make it feel busy and happening without being clustered. Menu is interesting, though it could probably do with one or two simpler meals. Good coffee, and wifi.
My partner has come plenty of times and loves the menu. Coffee was good. Eggs were a little undercooked as was bacon. Bathroom is big enough for a wheelchair or pram. Access ramp available via entrance off High Street.
Sunday morning breakfast / brunch after a hiatus due to severe lockdowns .. definitely out of practice and definitely missed the social environment.
Great to see the passing parade of doggies and their owners as you sit on the outside tables at this fantastic cage Short Round. Situated on the hip street High Street Thornbury. Good coffee, friendly service, nice menu and the best tunes to groove to whilst watching Sunday vibe just ooze on by. Highly recommended 👌
Short Round is a terrific cafe. A traditional remodeling of an old light space. It’s very pleasantly fitted out and on the day I was there was gorgeous northern light streaming in. With lovely and welcoming staff. They’re deadly serious about their dishes and its presentation. I asked them to having my waffle not very sweet, and they put the maple syrup aside for me. It was really beautiful dish and yummy.
Really enjoyed our coffees and meal at Short Round. Enjoyed the space sitting by the window in the afternoon sun.
Coffees were solid, the girls loved their oat flat whites, and the food was excellent. My daughter really loved her lemongrass congee which was bright and spicy, my wife and my meals were really good too.
All over a really enjoyable find and we will be back!
A great little cafe in the heart of Thornbury. Excellent food and great service… do your self a favour and give it a try , you won’t be disappointed 👍
Came in for a light lunch during the day, I was little bit hungover but still needed to eat. The staff were excellent, providing good insight as to what would taste best and what I should reconsider. I ended up ordering the eggs as well as a salad for my partner - very happy with how they turned out. Finished it off with some decent coffee and a slice of peanut butter caramel.
That was such a lovely brunch!
Gingerbread waffles. Absolutely delicious. Couple that with a great cup of coffee and very friendly staff it just made for a great morning out!
Thanks guys that was superb!
Google needs more stars so I can give this 100 stars! Coffee was perfect, hog chocolate amazing, and our brunch was nothing short of sensational. Staff super friendly to boot. Totally awesome and thanks Short Round - we will be back!
