Review Welcome Thai - Toorak

Friendly staff and tasty food with great portion. Definitely one of the best Thai restaurants in Melbourne!

Welcome Thai has been around for years and I'm assuming through a few changes of hands. I've been here a few times and the food is always delicious. Pictured here is the Chicken Satay that I had for entree, and the Chicken Fried Rice for the main meal. Both were very good. I would say the service was a little slow. They, like many other places, annoyingly concentrate on take out orders first, and now that Uber Eats exists, this just adds to the backlog of orders to get out. Therefore, if you're sitting at the restaurant, you end up waiting much longer than usual while they fulfil those first. Frustrating, but as long as you're not in a rush, then I guess there's more time to chat with your friends. The decor is simple but pretty and there's a lot of street parking outside so usually pretty easy to get a parking space. Overall, I would come here again and recommend it to anyone looking for a good Thai meal out. You can bring the kids or just have dinner for two.

Really friendly staff, food was delicious and it came out quickly. Tastefully decorated. I recommend the Thai beer! Good bang for your buck. ( and they do take away)

The most amazing Thai food 10/10. The pad Thai (vego and meat) is amazing along with the vego spring rolls and curry puffs. I can’t wait to be back for more!!!

Cosy, bookings not necessary. Delicious food.

Went here Sunday night. Ordered several dishes. The Gang Karee / Yellow curry was very poor quality chicken thigh that had the texture and taste of hard rubber and also did not taste like it was blended with the sauce at all. Barely ate any of this dish and advised the waitress of this. No apology given and waitress proceeds to tell the chef. Upon payment still charged full price for a horrible dish that was mostly uneaten. Other dishes were mediocre. No courtesy or care about the food or customers in this place. Overall one star experience. Not recommended.

A true delight with number of exceptionally delicious offerings. Definitely try the satay chicken & golden basket. Only knock is that at peak times the kitchen can be slow but you'll find it's worth the wait!

Great flavour - loved the Pad Thai, highly recommended! We ordered takeaway and it arrived hot and quickly! Only feedback would be the amount of onion in the Massaman curry and the stir-frys - will make sure we request little to no onion next time. Will definitely order again !

Good service, friendly staff. Nice food, good variety. Drinks reasonable prices. Try not to sit too close to the door on a chilly winter night though.

The fried snapper with oyster sauce and veggies was delicious, just the right moisture and texture left for the gormand to munch away the sweet meat of the fish. Not heavily fried as to mask the state of freshness of the snapper. Kudos Welcome Thai chef! Good job!

Excellent pad Thai and delicious thai Basil & Beef. Well done.

Love everything but the prawns crackers... needs some improvement on that

Ordered a pad Thai for dinner today because there was a free Uber delivery promotion. Good parts about the pad Thai:
1. Fresh prawns (I counted six medium sized ones) which makes the $2 extra worth it
2. Generous portions - I think I have enough for lunch tomorrow!

Less savoury parts:
1. Wished there was more egg in my pad Thai, I only saw small glimpses of them
2. The pad Thai itself was a bit sweet and it can be a bit overwhelming if you eat a whole plate at one go

May order if I’m in the area
Food ❤️❤️
i am a thai food lover and wanted to have some food when i was in toorak village last week , so I ordered some food items from here the taste was good ,I liked it💕

In cold Melbourne night we stumbled upon this BYO Thai restaurant. A nice and friendly place. 3 star only because presentation was missing. Food was tasteful and in good quantity. We ordered Thai green Curry with wok fried vegetables and noodles. Good place to try Thai food.

We love this Thai place - it's our local and we eat here regularly. Wholeheartedly recommend the Massaman curry - so yum! Friendly service and always a relaxed and peaceful atmosphere.

A very balanced pad thai - you could taste the wok through the dish. Absolutely beautiful. The green curry was lovely with juicy pieces of chicken throughout. The roti serving was very small for the $4 that it was - tasty but very small.

If you dine in, don't expect your meal to be made quickly.

I was a bit apprehensive as to how this place would be like due to its rating on Zomato but I was plesantly surprised. We were a group of 6 and ordered the fried fish, massaman duck curry, larb gai, pad thai and a few vegetarian dishes. We also had spring rolls and the golden basket for starters. Everything we ordered was delicious but the golden basket, the fried fish and the larb gai were definite winners for me. The service was also excellent. I would recommend this place and I will be back :)

Was not impressed with how my Pad Thai turned out. The favours were not balance as I found my meal sweater than it should have been. Lime would have helped to balance out the flavours more. Also it wasn’t a busy night at all and for the 30mins I was there the table in front of me was not cleared.

Very good Thai food and a very good menu. Most of the dishes I have tried have been excellent, especially their fried rice with crab meat and the panang beef. Their corkage fee is also on the low side if you bring your own alcohol. The decor fits and the wait staff is very helpful.

First impressions - very clean, uncluttered and dead quiet! Really needed some ambient music. After a while the radio was put on quietly but this isnt the reason i went here. The food came out quickly even for Thai standards and pricing was great. I had
Pad see eww with beef at $16.50. The quality of food was fantastic with fresh veggies and full of authentic flavours. The service was all smiles and flawless too.
I deducted for the uncomfortable quiet and bathroom being a little unclean. Not enough reason NoT to go here in future.

Authentic Thai food. I recommend the barbeque chicke, fried sweet and sour dish, pad thai and their green curry. I was really disappointed with the tom yum soup though. Service is okay.

Regulars of this local Thai restaurant and we're never disappointed. Food is of a consistent, high (delicious) standard! We have recommended this local fav to all our foodie friends & family! Service 100/100. Prices are reasonable considering all variables, bonus they don't charge delivery fee to locals!

Thai Restaurant and Cafe. Hmm... I'm not a really big fan of Thai food but when I had some from this restaurant I was completely surprised, I had thought that I would never love Thai food, but this restaurant has convinced me that I can.
I rate this restaurant 8/10.

Authentic Thai. Came here looking for some cheap and easy Thai food. We were amazed at how nicely the dishes tasted, especially the Pad Khing we will definitely be coming back to try some other dishes.

I love Thai food and was really looking forward to trying a new place. Unfortunately the food was just average and the service was pretty disappointing. We were the only table in the restaurant, but both waitresses stayed well clear of our table and gave pained stares if we asked for their attention to order. The clock watching at 9.30 on their part did not help at all...won't be going back

Great!. Great curries, will turn into a regular spot I suspect

Best satay delivery in melbourne. Always arrives quickly and is delicious!

Was given a 35 minute wait time on delivery. After an 90 minutes and 2 phone calls they turned up with the wrong order. 45 minutes later they turne up again. No discount for the 100 minute delay and the food was cold. Absolute Joke.

Hands down one of the best Thai restaurants!. So my friend and I were driving through Toorak and wanted to find a place to dine. I saw Welcome Thai was offering $35 discount to Liven App users. I thought I'd give it try. My friend and I were pleasantly surprised with the food! We both had been to Thai before so it is not everyday we get impressed by local Thai restaurants, but Welcome Thai was definitely a standout. The food was already cheap and we received even more discount through the App haha. Left the place with content belly.

Very disappointing! The chicken cashew nut was tasteless and the vegetables seemed like they were almost off. Won't be going back.

Best Thai in Melbourne. I have been to this restaurant countless times and I've never been disappointed. The food is great, reasonably priced and the staff are friendly.

Loved it!. We came in last week for dinner and we weren't disappointed. The whole meal was so fresh, hot and full of flavour and most of all felt very healthy as it wasn't drowned in oil like some Thai places.

We had the chicken cashew and as I have a fish allergy they were more than able to not put in anything with fish which was great. The plate was a huge serve and full of fresh ingredients. Really nice.

I ordered a beef pad se ew and it was full of delicious tender beef and noodles with a lot of broccoli. Really yummy and a large serve. The coconut rice was a large serve too for a small serve price.

With a couple of beers the meal only came to $50 which is a bargain for the area. We will definitely be coming back this week!

The Pad Thai from Welcome reminded me of the ones I had in Thailand. And that's a good thing. Keep up the good work Welcome!

Delicious. Wonderful thai food, with the best peanut dipping sauce and roti I've had in Australia! Well worth a visit, or get it delivered home!

I've recently moved to Armadale and found this gem of a restaurant! It's authentic Thai cuisine.. The fish cakes are amazing! I also used their app to order tonight and was a bit sceptical as I had to pay by credit but the food turned up exactly when they said with free delivery. Strongly recommend!

This place is Amazing. Have been coming here for years and it never disappoints. Best Masaman Beef Curry I have ever had, and I have eaten at some amazing restaurants in Thailand. The price of the food is very reasonable for what you get. The Satay chicken is breast of chicken and the peanut sauce is very nice. Love the Thai red duck curry and the cashew stir fry. Amazed its not busier.

Very small Thai Beef Salad!. Had it home delivered and the container was half empty, it was a tiny serve! We are still hungry! Such a shame, because it tastes good, they need to be more generous especially since it's a salad!!!

There was also too much onion and not enough salad. Disappointing.

BEAUTIFUL FOOD. Well, I see mixed reviews, but personally this is the best Thai I have ever had and I HAVE eaten in Thailand. Beef Massaman curry is to die for... so tender and best Pad Thai! Oh and don't forget the Roti with peanut sauce. I don't go for the decor (although its not that bad), I go for the great food!

Nice place to dine in. Really enjoy the tom yum soup and stir fry satay sauce. Taste authentic

Eat thai very often, but this is the BEST pad thai I have ever had!

Love it!. My favourite Thai restaurant! Love the satay prawns and green curry chicken.
Great service, affordable prices and yummy food :)

Big serves of good dishes albeit not as authentically fragrant and piquant as l would like. Mixed entree tasty but fish cake is the only truly Thai-tasting item, although the spring rolls and curry puff were good.

Mains of pad thai, ginger fish and wok fried beef with lemongrass good not great. With a bottle of wine was $102, reduced to $82 with Entertainment Card voucher. Clearly popular with the takeaway crowd, and worthwhile if you don't want your Thai to be too testing.

Good. I have been goin to welcome thai for many times, and always loved it. food is good and i'll say best thai I have had

Poor Service. After reading 'Yummy Thai Food', I thought that I should take my Entertainment Book coupon down to Toorak and try this place for myself. My experience wasn't so fantastic, however.

The food was okay, but the service was pretty lacking. I didn't get a wine list or asked if I'd even like a drink, then after we ordered, only half of our dishes ever arrived.

If you're in the area, give it a miss and try Blossom Thai instead (for which there is also an Entertainment Book coupon!) It's only a few kms further up on Toorak Road and promises for a much better experience.

If you know good thai.... I wouldnt recommend this place. I have heaps better thai food elsewhere, I really don't see what the hype is. Maybe the other reviews havent been to Thailand? Or haven't experienced anything better? I don't know. Frozen entrees to me are not authentic.
Chantal
Yummy Thai food!. Had the Entertainment Book voucher for this place, and seeing it had good reviews on Urbanspoon, my boyf and I had dinner here and we both thoroughly enjoyed the food! I also thought service was pretty food too- we didn't have to wait too long for either the drinks nor the food!

We had the Thai Green Curry with chicken which was very tender, TomYum with chicken which I opted for mild and it was just nice, Pepper&Garlic chicken stirfry was was yummy too!
We had a serving of coconut rice and jasmine rice and both were fragrant!
Ordered the banana fritter with ice cream for dessert and enjoyed that too!

I honestly don't have single negative thing to say!
Will definitely be back!!

Average Thai restaurant 6 / 10. Have been to many thai cafes/restaurants in Sydney and Melbourne, love the cuisine and enjoy finding good places serving it. Didn't happen on this occasion.

Ambience - below average, moth ball smell as you walk in, old decorations / interior, no background music, toilets are worse than pit stop type and smell.

Dishes - Prawn salad flavours nicely balanced and fresh ingredients, tom yum soup quite good, pad thai below average.

Presentation - ok, nothing fancy, just food on a dish.

Service - ok, polite and attentive nothing out of ordinary.

Price - well priced for Toorak location (about $10 for prawn tom yum, $16 for veg red curry).

Overall - below average, not bad, but not good either. Will not go back.

My favorite Thai restaurant. My wife and I go out of our way to eat here. The friendliest staff and the best food - BEST PEANUT SATAY SAUCE EVER!

We tried Welcome Thai tonight after flicking through entertainment book. The place is very nice and the service's quite exceptional. Staff were very friendly and all smile. We had fried barramundi with apples and chillies (their special) which was unfortunately not fried crisp enough. My boyfriend was complaining about it however the overall taste was good. We also had tom yum and it was yum. And our vegetable stir-fry lemongrass was good.

The food is divine and takeaway is good quality and relatively cheap. The service in the restaurant isn't great so if you can see past this, you will love it.

Love it!. I went for a work function, so experienced their banquet. It was, simply put, amazing. I was, unfortunately, not very hungry when we began. However, that didn't stop me from eating just as much as everybody else!
We had curry puffs, spring rolls and a third fried entree (I can't recall it) - all of which tasted great.
We had so many different dishes for mains so I'll try my best to list them all:
- Green curry: always a favourite of mine wherever I eat it, and Welcome Thai's curry didn't disappoint
- Red curry: never tried this before because I love green curry too much, but this was even better than the green curry
- some sort of Fried Rice: wasn't amazing but good to eat all the same
- a vegetable dish with fish: I'm not a fan of fish in general but this was reasonably tasty
- I *think* their "Pad Med Mamuang":great
I had the custard with ice cream for dessert. I've never had Thai custard before so I can't compare it to anything. While it wasn't amazing, I did like it and the vanilla ice cream helped a lot. I probably would have preferred the banana fritter, but still finished my custard. Note: it is a small portion though.
Overall, I really enjoyed myself at Welcome Thai. There were a couple of other mains that I enjoyed but cannot remember at all. The service was friendly and accommodating. I will gladly return.

Great food. Delicious food and well priced - nothing else to be said.

Best Thai I know. I haven't had better Thai food!

This is where I really fell in love with Penang Beef, these guys make it so tender, and the flavors coming through the sauce are amazing.

The Pad Thai is always fantastic.

The restaurant itself is nothing to rave about, but that's why I got take away delivered from here regularly... and if you order regularly they throw in a free can of soft drink.. again awesome!

I love this place... and the Roti break is to die for!
