Review Afghan Takeaway & Groceries - Toowoomba

We came here during the festival of the flowers. The restaurant is located upstairs. I have a feeling that the restaurant specialises in Korean BBQ as it seems like most people were having that. We instead chose a whole serve of fried chicken, sweet soy beef rice, sweet soy beef rice cakes, hot stone mix, spicy pork noodles, poached pork belly, and Tteok-Galbi. I think the most outstanding was the poached pork belly. It literally melts in your mouth. All other dishes were good but not extraordinary. Staff were friendly. The place was clean and tidy. It was a bit pricey for the serving size but considering we were in Toowoomba, I think this would be one of the better Korean restaurants.

Ate here on a busy Saturday night and we were not disappointed. We ordered the Korean cheesy corn to start and it was delicious. The bbq meats (we had the pork belly, teriyaki chicken and the beef bulgogi) were tasty and the marinades delicious. We had a lot of fun cooking our own food and making wraps out of the lettuce and picked radish that accompanied the bbq dishes. Good value for money with 2 entrees, 3 bbq dishes, rice, 4 beers and a soft drink coming in at just over $100 with the three of us walking away very full.

Edited: To those who would like to leave a review: get prepared to be objected if you don’t like anything about this restaurant. I think taste is very subjective and everyone has right to share their thoughts. However, after reading the reply form the owner, I spent a hour to go through some of his/her reply to the others. And found that if you don’t like the dishes, it is your problem and your are darkening the restaurant, totally not related to them and what they serve must be perfect. Bibimbap: 0⭐️ if I could. Soggy rice in hot pot with a glug of sesame oil and toppings. The rice was so soggy that only dried up a bit in the pot, no hope for the rice crust. The toppings look normal in the photo but barely there after mixing with the rice. Spicy pork udon: 0.5⭐️ if I could. Better put “Oily” in the menu. I thought I ordered a soup udon when this was served, but that was all oil. 5: Recommended! 4: We will be back 3: Worth trying 2: Regretted to try 1: Recommended in another way

Let me start by saying the menu/s here are extensive. Truly huge! Arguably, too long. Certainly for the indecisive type such as myself. Service is swift. No faffing about there but still super friendly. Service is requested via a buzzer. I'm a big fan of this concept, it's totally logical. If I need you, I'll let you know - why waste servers time walking around checking constantly? "Buzz for attention", I need this in my day to day life. So so so so many gins and whiskeys. Just so many! And part of me wonders why. Has anyone tried them all? And if you have, you may need an intervention... Honestly, a list this long gives me anxiety. What if my favourite whiskey in the world is on that list and I pick the wrong one? Like my future wife, would I even recognise her if I walked past her in the street? How many times might that have happened? How am I to know? For food I had the gyoza and a kara-agedon donburi. They used to do a tonkatsudon which I loved, but this was a close second. All the food was really delicious. Loved it and left feeling properly satisfied. After much deliberation and high anxiety I settled on a beer to drink, of which there a few, but nowhere near as many as the spirits, making the selection easier. For the most part, beer tastes like beer to me. Perhaps a sign I don't drink a lot of it. Ordering beer makes me feel blokey and tough, like a real man. I could use a few more hairs on my chest too. The yebisu beer had "premium" in the name which sold me. The word premium made me assume it was like the Heinz of baked beans but for beer. Can confirm it did indeed taste like beer and I liked it. A projector hangs from the ceiling in the main dining space, which I assume is for karaoke or post-work movie nights. Karaoke is, I assume based off everything else here, very good - but I had a bad experience one time with karaoke so I've not tried it myself.

Always an enjoyable time dining here. They're good at being able to seat larger gatherings. Friendly staff. Unique dining experience in heart of Toowoomba.

I had a seafood stew with my friends. It was so terrible I had to put some soy sauce and chilli powder then the taste became sort of better. It was a rare opportunity getting together with my long distance friends. And I was quite hungry but unfortunately couldn’t finish the food. I just visited my friend’s area so won’t have a many chances to go to this restaurant often. But even if living close to here, this woudn’t really be my favourite. Response to the owener's reply - this review above was originally few years back, the 'seafood stew' was on the menu and my friend and I ordered it. Then I asked for soy sauce and chilli powder to make the taste better. I edited this review about 2 months ago so it shows as only 2 months old review.

We chose to sit in the second dinning room on the floor but not an issue and gave us a little more privacy then the main area (no BBQ in this room). Staff spent time running us through the menu to help pick things to match out tastes. Food and sake could not be faulted, Spicy Korean Fried Chicken was amazing. Keen to come back and work my way through more of the menu.
