We walked in to the Australian on Thursday arvo and was greeted by a lovely woman ( who we found out last night is the owner) who was more then happy for a chat.
We returned on Friday afternoon for a few games of pool and was then greeted by a young barman named Matt, who once again was up for a chat and gave us some local knowledge. We loved the laid back pub lifestyle the Australian had to offer. We were very impressed by the friendly staff and cleanliness of the pub.
SO .. We returned on Saturday afternoon as it was our last night in town.
Dave and I absolutely love this pub.. Great atmosphere, great staff and great conversations with the staff.
We must say that Matt goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome and to make sure we get a few laughs too.
We highly recommend that if you are in Townsville that the Australian on palmer st is the place to be. Oh and have a chat with Matt cheers
Thanks Rob and Katie for allowing us the venue for our sons 21st. Your flexibility with catering and professional service to our guests was great. We had a great night and all our guests enjoyed the venue. The meals we had were good and we will be back for a meal.The Australian is as Australian as it gets and we would recommend it to all.

Went for dinner after watching incredible footy game... Cowboys beat Storm 🏈 Friendly staff, cold drinks, central to Palmer Street and a short walk from Cowboys Country Bank Stadium, clean amenities and beaut food.
Visited a few times. Loved the experience. The young lady organised for us to watch Bombers & Adelaide on the big screen with minimum of fuss. Went back for tea last Wednesday night to return the favour, and all very happy with our meals. Just a nice, spacious, friendly user friendly establishment.
100% recommend.

Hosted a surprise 30th in the beer garden. Lucky enough to have the whole back section cornered off.
Allowed us to set up, use the tv and catered excellent platters. Absolutely to die for!

Good place for a few bevies with friends, there is ample seating in front bar and a nice area out back. Although I didn't eat my mate's meal looked great and he recommended it.
We stopped in on a Tuesday night, for their 400g rump special, as advertised for $15.00.
Included coleslaw and an Idaho potato on the side.
Sauce is not included In the deal, and is an additional $2.00 per person.
Overall our meals were good.
The rumps did not come out as a medium and medium rare as requested, but due to the sheer number of people that night, we decided to est them anyway.
Our friend got the double brisket meal, and can I tell you, was beyond disappointed.
The meat was tough and dry. Tasted like reheated jerkey, and not in a good way.
He ate the sides, and tried to share the meat component.
We didn't finish it.
When the waiter came to collect the plates from the table, I let them know how disappointed we were with the brisket. There was no real action as the young man was a bit taken back by it.
Overall, a great place for friends. I recommend the 400g rump on their Tuesday night specials.
