Quirky, Hillsy little Abitza cafe has been transformed into a modern, warm, welcoming dining space. Dark red tones offset the smoothly polished, natural wood furnishings: the work of Hills wood craftsman, Yani Rigos, who is the father of co-proprietor, Daniel. On a cold, rainy Saturday morning, we were met with warm smiles, along with the choice of coffee blends. I chose the East Timorese for my latte, and was rewarded with a hint of dark chocolate and understated spicy warmth. The whole menu is vegetarian and vegan and there is a welcome array of choices. We were there for breakfast. Eggs are offered, but as an additional side. This breakfast menu is far too exciting to focus on eggs, though two of my dining companion chose to add an egg to their already generously sized potato dosa, which had “just the right amount of aromatic spiciness”. My tasty vegan sausages were served with velvety braised mushrooms, enhanced with a hint of garlic and earthy spices, and red kidney beans in a fresh tomatoey sauce. The kale had a different savoury bite, and on the side was toasted and buttered sour dough bread. Nevedya is a worthy addition to the growing culinary reputation the Hills, and of Upwey in particular. As we prepared to go out into the rain and bracing wind, a rich warm burst of roasting spices on the air promised further delightful exploration.

This place is heaven on earth. I choose the Greek Fasolada, butter beans in a delicious sauce with fresh olives, creamy feta served with crusty bread. They can make a great long black coffee, which I find difficult to source elsewhere. This place is a must on your cafe list. Busy with filled with love from the enthusiastic staff.

The Khichuri was like a big hug chased with a Valium; so comforting and nourishing. Thought, love and care is evident in every dish here. A wonderful place.

Tucked away opposite Upwey station in the Dandenong Ranges is the beautiful Nevedya Cafe - a very tranquil cafe specialising in organic vegetarian food made with lots of love!

We instantly felt transported upon entering and being seated (on pillows!) at the gorgeous wooden booths. The expansive menu has Indian, Middle Eastern and Asian influences and we tried the Superfood Buckwheat Pancakes ($22), Middle Eastern Halloumi & Corn Fritters ($26) and Potato Masala Dosa ($20.50). All dishes we tried were gluten free as well and super delicious - I especially loved the crispy dosa and their hand pulled goat & sheep halloumi is just divine!

They also specialise in cacao elixirs and I loved my lassi. Their coffee was a bit too strong for me. Definitely worth a visit if you’re exploring the Dandenong Ranges or want a more tranquil brunch experience! They also cater to dietaries like gluten free, vegan and non-dairy really well!

Absolutely LOVE Nevedya and can't recommend it enough!

Such a welcoming, comfortable and relaxed vibe. The team is so lovely and the vibe is so chill! You will feel happy and zen sitting in this café!

To start, I tried a CACAO MUSHROOM ELIXIR which was absolutely delicious and warming. I would love to try more of their Elixirs in the future!!

The food was incredible. We had a VEGAN + GF spread including FRITTERS, PANCAKES, and DOSA. The fritters were SO flavoursome and included vegan halloumi! The Pancakes were the right amount of sweet, great texture and felt light to eat! The Dosa was nice and crispy, and again - the flavours were on point! If I had to pick a fave it would be the fritters!

I CANNOT WAIT to go back again to try more of the amazing food!

I had an incredibly healing & spiritual experience here. I couldn't recommend it enough to anyone who is looking at escaping the hustle of Melbourne and retreating back to nature.

I felt instantly calm and zen walking into this cafe. The interior felt very earthy, with lots of plants and wooden furnishings, as well as the beautiful salt lamps, and mostly natural lighting coming from the large windows. I loved sitting on cushions close to the ground. It felt more private and comfortable than chairs. My friend and I ended up spending 3 hours there talking and eating.

The food and drinks were amazing. I had a completely vegan meal which was awesome!
Healing cacao with mint: This was a thick, cacao drink which had a lovely mint freshness to it.
Fritters: These were lovely and bite sized, with a nice crunch on the outside & a beautiful pesto sauce ontop
Grilled vegan halloumi & apple: This combination was something I was pleasantly surprised by! The savoury halloumi was balanced by the lovely, sweet poached apple
Macrobiotic avocado: I loved the Japanese flavours in this dish, including the strong miso/umami flavour. There was a generous serving of avocado on it, as well as some pickled kimchi which cut through the saltiness of the miso. I also added maple smoked tofu which had a nice smokiness to it. Yum!
Buckwheat banana pancakes: A stack of pancakes that isn't sickly sweet or heavy. I loved how I could eat it and not feel gross afterwards. The addition of the coconut yougurt added some creaminess, while the maple syrup gave it some added sweetness.
Smashed pumpkin: I love pumpkin & I loved this dish! I only had a bite but it was tasty
Immunity tea: I finished the meal off with a warming immunity tea, with some extra Manuka honey for sweetness & the health benefits

The staff are so warm, welcoming & relaxed. I loved being able to take my time with my meal. They are so glad to have people coming from the suburbs to the area, and trying their local produce.

Honestly don’t even know where to begin. We visited this cute little cafe in Upwey last week and were blown away by the hospitality we received from the moment we walked in. The interior was absolutely gorgeous with salt lamps, plants, pillows and gorgeous table settings the space was just stunning! The menu was unbelievable the options for dietary requirements were endless! We ordered a matcha latte & a choc mint matcha latte which were absolutely perfect for the cooler Melbourne weather. Deciding what to order for meals was honestly one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make. There were so many incredibly delicious sounding options all of which were vegan and GF meaning my tummy was super happy afterwards!
We ended up ordering the Indonesian satay smashed pumpkin with Tempe and gluten free toast, the masala potato dosa and the superfood banana pancake stack to share. The spread was absolutely incredible and I honestly cannot rave about the Indonesian satay smasher pumpkin enough. It was incredible!! So fresh, so delicious and all the flavours really complimented each other! It was the perfect portion size & presented beautifully! Definitely one of my favourite savoury vegan dishes! Cannot wait to visit again, I highly recommend booking one of the booths too, they are super cute & make the whole experience even better!

Really annoyed that you guys only got 3.9 on zomato when it should be At least 4.5 and above haha

All the flavors and textures were perfect. I love that you guys use medicinal mushrooms rather than conventional acai and similar “superfoods.”
Everything from ingredients to plate ware was thought out very well!!

We ordered the avocado toast with kimchi and pickled veg and I don’t think I’ve had flavors like that anywhere else!! The kimchi and miso went so well with avocado toast and I thought I was the only one who appreciated and experimented with those sorts of flavors haha
We also had the supercharged miso soup-and again, best miso soup out there!! I’ve never had anything like it anywhere else ! It was filled with mushrooms that aren’t the normal Swiss and button - I know lions mane etc... is so good for you and I’m so happy you guys have that ! I feel like most superfoods in menus out there are just there but you guys actually experiment with the taste pairing of the ingredients. So it’s food that tastes like amazingness and makes you feel good too!! Also I love how all the staff just emulated good vibes everywhere !! Basically 10/10 for service, food and environment :)

I have eaten many times at Nevedya. In fact, when I lived in the area I went twice a week. The food is extraordinary! The Zen Bowl is delicious. The tastes are so nuanced and subtle, and you can distinguish all the different ingredients. Nevedya means food for the spirit, however the whole ambience here nourishes the spirit as well as the food - from the beautiful walls to the tasteful and varied music played at the perfect volume, to the exquisite wooden furniture created by Yanni Rigos from Wood Alchemy to the beautiful oil paintings by one of the owners, Daniel Rigos. The whole experience is a feast for the senses. The Masala Dosa is worth trying for the chutney alone, the Mexican Vegan (optional) Cheese Dosa has some heavenly tastes, and the very simple staple of Mexican Chili Beans on toast with added guacamole is one of the best meals I have tasted anywhere. Also, make sure you try the South Indian Peanut, Coconut Curry with Home grown zucchinis and Uttapam flatbread with Mango pickle. The combination of this delicious curry with one of my favourite foods Uttapam transported me to another world. An absolute 5 Star experience!

Nevedya is an impressive modern vegetarian café, with Indian/eastern influences, in the main street of Upwey. It is a shopfront venue, and inside the décor features low level lighting with a burgundy and deep turquoise colour scheme, and with dark plum on the ceiling. The walls are adorned with modern abstract art, and various ephemera such as dried arrangements and branches. Planter stands are strategically placed on benches and tables, providing some living ornamentation. The table settings are a blend of chunky polished tree-trunk tables, simple timber stools, and some rustic timber benches along the façade affording street views. There are two main dining areas separated by oriental style partitions (no doubt helping with the acoustics). The ambience is completed by some funk-style tracks, which were pleasant if not a touch too loud. The menu is an all day one, and while not extensive, provides a choice of light or more substantial dishes, and several vegan options. The menu items look to be creative and interesting. I selected the Mexican dosa (vegan option), which was attractively presented, with a light and crisp crepe and a fresh filling full of textures and subtle flavours. There is a choice of two coffee bean varieties for your flat white. I opted for the East Timorese variety which is strong and dark, and I was not disappointed as the coffee was excellent, with rich flavour and served at an appropriate temperature. The service is casual, welcoming and attentive. I would recommend a visit, as it is trendy and inviting, the food and coffee are excellent, and vegetarian and vegan diets are well catered for.

Everything about this cafe is exceptional -the ambience, the staff, THE FOOD, the stunning decor -and along with that, prices are comparable to other cafes. Care and integrity seem to ooze out of everything, especially the food which is so fresh and tasty -and which is generally garnished with something exciting and healthy, just to add 'that bit more'. And the coffee is fantastic. I think Nevedya's a unique gem!

Nevedya is a Cafe that serves Organic Vegetarian Food in The Hills and is well worth a visit. The options I found to be somewhat Mediterranean (Cretan) in style and ordering as ‘tapas’ is advised. The Spanakopita is a must! From quality food to exceptional service, you won’t regret visiting this one ⭐️
