An authentic local Hk style cafe, very friendly staff and cozy atmosphere, spacious and comfortable seatings, good for take away too.

Dropped by here for lunch today. The ambience was quite nice - there weren't many people around and the tables were tidy. Air conditioning was also cold which was refreshing considering the warm weather outside. There were also outdoor tables available.
Staff were friendly and attentive. I ordered the black pepper beef with fried spaghetti, and an ice lemon tea, which was a lunch special and cost $13.80 in total. Their lunch specials were basically the equivalent of having a free drink, because their regular dishes also cost $13-15. I found that pricing a bit expensive given this is in the suburbs.
The food came quickly, within 5 minutes. The portion of spaghetti was quite big, and there was enough beef for me but I think it could have had a little more. The black pepper sauce was nice, not too strong. Spaghetti was cooked well, not too soft. Beef was tender and very nice. There was also spring onions, bean sprouts and onions in the dish. The iced lemon tea was a good balance, not too sweet. It was also cold enough.
Overall it's a pretty nice place, but slightly expensive for the location and what you're getting.

We found another dining gem , Uncle Jack’s Kitchen is a nondescript, rather small restaurant in Wheeler’s Hill Shopping Centre, along Jells Rd. Shows again you should never judge a book by its cover. Their signature dish was steamed barramundi in soy milk with tofu, wombok, enoki mushroom, goji berries & red dates. They served this as a soup to start the meal, the soup was
‘ching’ & delicately flavoured, then they deboned the barramundi & served that in individual bowls , the fish was fresh, flesh was sweet & tender. Goes really well with steamed rice.
Other signature & note worthy dishes were ;
- Pipi in XO sauce with dough twisters (yau char kwai) , the XO & black bean sauce was tasty & the yau char kwai was crispy , wished there were more of it as it was a nice accompaniment when used to mop up the tasty sauce.
- Dongjiang steamed & salted free range chicken , my fave comfort food, slightly salted, good texture, accompanied with their home made ginger sauce. To me , white cut chicken & ginger scallion sauce is a match made in comfort food heaven. Would go great with a bowl of plain Honky style congee.
- Wok tossed green beans with pork & Chinese olives. Fresh & crunchy green beans in a piquant olive sauce. The Chinese olives give a burst of umami flavour.
- Fried curry prawns . Deep fried prawns in shell, subtly flavoured with curry powder resulting in a sweet tasting prawn dish that is not overwhelmed by the curry favour.
For a small restaurant, service was efficient ( my pet peeve is when dishes are still arriving after I’ve finished my second bowl of rice) friendly & I didn’t even have to keep asking for my Chinese tea to be refilled........all in a good dining experience ! I will be back to try other dishes in their very extensive menu !
A great local gem! Who would have thought that such a quality Chinese restaurant would be tucked away in Wheelers Hill? We had the barramundi soy milk steamboat and the soup base was amazing! Perfectly balanced and no oil at all used, a perfect winter dish. Great value and excellent quality food. Will definitely be back very soon!
Great place. Interesting to find such a popular restaurant locally in wheelers hill! Great Cantonese food with a variety of drinks such as milk tea.
作为住在附近的中国人来说，我觉得挺好吃的，味道很正，最喜欢他们家的黑椒牛肉饭，新出的饮料水果茶和粟米炸鱼排也很赞，（当然还是最喜欢他们家的豆奶啦）。家门口就有广东菜也不用大老远跑glen去吃了。已经不是第一次去这家餐厅了，中午和晚上生意都挺好，，新年的年夜饭也是去他们家吃的，老板娘也很亲切。总而言之非常赞就是啦！
Uncle Jack's Kitchen become our family favorite restaurant for dine in and takeaway. Love their food and great variety choice from their menu. If you ask us why we love their food, I definitely say they cook their food with heart from a Master Class chef. Couldn't stop me to say 'Mmmm....yum!' for every bite of their food full of Cantonese authentic flavour. We love their Yin Yang fried rice, Salty fish chicken fried rice, Satay beef fried hor fun (our top favorite), a lot more delicious dishes want to mention..... Recently we tried their exotic salt and pepper egg plant, Master class Salt baked free range chicken serve with Ginger & spring onion sauce. We have completed our dinner with their Chef special tasty pan fried pumpkin cake with ice cream and strawberries, fried banana fritter ice cream, grass jelly ice cream. Another blessed night.
I really like the Fried Rice they serve with a main dish. I’ve tried their Chicken Spare Ribs, Black Pepper Beef, Deep Fried Squid, Braised Pork and Sweet n Sour and I think all of them are really good at an affordable price.
I wouldn’t recommend the Sweet n Sour if you’re not into the flour layer they have on them as they can be a little thick.
Go for Deep Fried Squid or Chicken Spare Ribs for something naughty or play it safe for some nice HK style cuisine with the Braised Pork which is a chef special.
I’ve also heard from other customers (by eavesdropping) that their Fried Noodles are pretty good as well so I’ll probably try that next time around.

Feb 2019: Tried their new Coconut Chicken soup, Gluten free, nut free, egg free and dairy free. Real stuff with just salt as seasoning, really good for young and old. The Soya bean Fish is also really tasty, the broth has more seasoning but I will definately come back for more for both the dishes. Can feed 2 families no problem. They are still keeping up with the taste of the food. Good job!
May 2018: Sad that they have removed the Roast meat, food is still good.
Jan 2018: Return for a take away. Still good food. I realised they do Hong Kong style food better than Malaysian and Singaporean food.
Nov 2017:A nice and new Hong Kong style Cafe style food. I am glad there is one here at Wheelers Hill. There are lots of parking in the front and back. Rem if you wish to come on Fri night or Sat, you must be ready to wait a while. I guess being new in this area and uncertain of the crowd may lead to long waiting time for your food. Nevertheless, their food are quite good. Prices are acceptable. Definately will return. My hubby is loving their beef and wanton soup noodle..he ate so fast that I didn't get to take a shot of it. Kids loved their fried rice, got the "wok hey".

Great place for friends gathering. The food is great. Barramundi Soy milk steamboat is a must! Fresh fish and tasty soup! Sesame walnut milk drink is a great choice in winter.
The service was good. Loved sweet and sour pork but fried rice was just ok.
Must try their steamed fish in soy milk broth - haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since I had it last night. Cannot wait to go back.
This place is surely a hidden gem.
Very convenient place to go to as it is right outside of a bus stop. The service is very exceptional. Definitely has become one of my top preferences to eat at.
Fantastic atmosphere, friendly staff and burgers don't disappoint. Chips were cooked perfectly with lots of chicken salt.
Uncle Jack’s kitchen is great ! The food was excellent - super tasty and not oily at all. Very authentic. Worth the visit - I’ve been twice this week already !
