Visited a few times for lunch, by myself and with a group of coworkers from Target. So far I've had:
- Lontong Sayur Medan (shown on the photo from my last visit, surprisingly REALLY good - I'd definitely have this again)
- Nasi Rames Betawi
- Nasi Campur Padang
- Nasi Lemak
- Nasi Tumpeng
All the nasi (rice) dishes were ok, I'm not a big fan of the rectangular plate as there is little space for the food to move. As soon as you press down the rice mound, various things fell off the plate.
If you're ordering Tumpeng, probably best to call ahead to check if they have the turmeric rice.
My colleagues really likes the fried rice (with extra egg) and another quite like the empal sunda.
Will continue visiting and trying various dishes when we go back to the office again.
Service is slower than other places in the area, probably best check what dishes would be ready fast if you're in a rush.
My score 3.5 stars. J and I had lunch here on Thu 20th June. A new place, had only been open 3 weeks when we ate there. Greeted warmly by the female waiter - dark décor, quite nice and modern, but comfy – good background music, not too loud. Lunch menu is a pared down version of the dinner menu.
We shared Nasi campur medan ($15.90) - Fried tofu was good, tasty and moist inside. Sambal very hot - seemed home made. Fried potato - was ok. Eggplant balado – soft, nice generous serve – balado sauce not so spicy (also HM). Steamed rice was good. We substituted Chicken curry for the std Fried Chicken – no extra charge. Curry flavour was nice, but mild – chicken was a whole maryland rather than smaller pieces, so once skin came off tasted more chickeny, than curry-like (not much sauce).
Mini tumpeng ($16.90) - Yellow coconut rice tower – very tasty and strongly flavoured. Fried galangal chicken – a bit like roast chicken with flavours only on the skin – not as strongly flavoured as I’d hoped – but tasted quite nice and nicer cuts than the Maryland.
Fried potato with a few small pieces of green beans, decorative rice crackers and samabal balacan (all ok). Potato croquette (mashed with spring O) – ok, but could have been a croquette from anywhere. Mixed salad (2 slices tomato and a few lettuce leaves – both dishes). Egg balado – 1 boiled egg halved (nice) - J particularly liked the balado “sauce”.
Peanuts and anchovies (were very moist, quite “fishy” but not that concentrated – preferred peanuts to fish which is unusual for me)!
A wide variety of food types per dish, but not all hit the mark for us – probably ok value for so many elements. Not sure if we’ll return…
Had dinner at this small but lovely Indonesian restaurant on the weekend. The wait staffs were smiley and friendly. The dinner menu is a bit pricier than lunch but food was good and flavors were authentic. Portion is very generous too! Will be back to try more!
