Review Amok - Windsor

Nathaniel Fitzgerald-Hood
Some of the best food I've eaten in Melbourne. We mixed and matched our own dishes to share. The crispy things were light and crisp, the amok curries with fish and duck perfectly balanced (and the flavour took me back to a cooking lesson in Cambodia). Fish popcorn was a delight (crispy with zingy greens to accompany) and chicken ribs extra yum. Desserts were tasty, inventive and different: crispy rice ball with avocado ice cream totally works and I really enjoyed the pineapple through the other. Staff were attentive and food came out quickly. All thumbs up, thank you!

Had my birthday dinner there with a large group. A superb experience for us all - our first time experiencing modern Khmer food. Woody and the team were fantastic during their service, ensuring all guests in the restaurant at the time were well looked after. The tables are well spread out so you can hear yourself talk with your table. Highly recommended place to eat and drink and will definitely dine there again.

Loved the family favorite, vegetarian. Had zucchini flower for start and that was mounth watering. All dishes are full of flavor and tasty. Definitely will come back. Keep the quality guys the same, thumbs up!

Excellent food, and very reasonably priced ($62 for the 8 course chef's selection). Like everywhere else, maybe a bit short staffed at the moment. Sadly, the menu notes 'no MSG' added - restaurants should stop doing this (and use MSG, which makes food taste better).

My 2nd time here and the food was delicious. I can comment on the authenticity sonce I haven't been to Cambodia myself, however, the food is great. We had the oysters, grilled corn, steak salad, grilled squid salad and crispy pork belly. The steak salad was the highlight. The grilled squid salas-a tad sweet for me. My dining partner thought the squid couldve been softer, but I loved it slightlt firm as is, tastes like lightly sundried squids we get by the beach of Nha Trang. Crispy pork belly salad was ok, however the crispy pork was not crispy. So other than not matching the name, it was good. Everything went down well with white rice. We enjoyed it very much! Staff and service was good and friendly. I'd say this is one of the places where the standards are the same as pre covid. Highly recommended for an asian dining experience on Chapel Street!

just wanna said, the food was so good, and the staff and the chef are so sweet and so nice, this would be my very first time to have Cambodian food, it’s amazing, refreshing, pretty light. even the chicken rib was deep fried. i have the song san island, taste so great, not very strong but it’s very tasty.

Great Cambodian restaurant! Was recommended by a friend and it turns out very good! The boss’s so friendly! Love it x 14/01/2022

Cambodian-owned and authentic which is great, but from a vegetarian perspective, ultimately thought flavour lacked in food and cocktails. Do recommend the corn cobs

Being Cambodian, I am not only rejoicing that we have a restaurant in Australia's food capital that represents sumptuous modern Khmer food but also so proud that amok restaurant does it so incredible well. Every dish is flawless that from a notorious salt & pepper shaker, any additional condiments is redundant as chef Woody gets the flavours perfectly right. I always recommend the chef's sharing menu so that you can sample all the eight courses in one sitting. The service is impeccable, down to earth and friendly. Stay long enough and the chef walks out for a good old chat to check in on you. Despite rolling out of there completely full and some more, it doesn't stop me from going back even if it's about a 45 minute drive. Totally worth it.

Love this place. The food is made special by the amazingly good flavours on the plate. Everyone at our table loved their dishes. Duck curry, fish popcorn and the wagui beef salad were standouts. Non pretentious, reasonable prices and great staff all add to a great experience. Will be back for sure.

By far the best food I've ever had in Melbourne if not in my life, and I've tried many modern cuisines before. I loved every single dish that was presented, in true MasterChef style might I add! It was a wonderful experience and to quote my husband "this place blew my mind away!!" We were pleasantly surprised with every dish as it came. It was a wonderful wedding anniversary gift from hubby and memorable experience :) Thank you!
Bina Khalfay
An interesting experience. We did the tasting menu. Which was pretty good. Vegan-friendly. They accomodated a vegan tasting menu for me even though it wasn't on the menu, which was fantastic. A lot of tofu but interesting flavours. Friendly staff. Overall a good experience.

We celebrated a birthday at Amok. A lovely place for a little celebration. Everything was good - food, wine, staff and atmosphere. The only downside was that, on a cold night it was not warm enough to enjoy a truly cosy experience.

Been here twice. First for Friends b'day and 2nd for Xmas work dinner. I knew this place would not disappoint the 2nd time around so I persuaded work to approve to have dinner here. They couldn't stop raving on about how delicious the food was and how it was the best choice for the night. We had the 8 course banquet. So many great dishes! You definitely don't go home hungry lol Service was on point too. They are all so nice and attentive. Will be making sure I bring everyone I know to try at least once. Can't wait to go back. :)

Everything was perfect; flavoursome food cooked with heart and soul and wait staff that share the passion. Highly recommend Amok. Thank you for another awesome evening... 😊

This place is amazing - the food is to die for and the oysters well I pretty much had an orgasm

This place was amazing! Great atmosphere, service and the food? Almost as good as mums ! And the menu, i just wanted everything on it. Great value, great service & on chapel st what more could you ask for! Highly recommended.
Daniel Carpenter
Amazing food and great service. Would recommend it and will definitely be back. Thanks guys!

A must try for the Melbourne foodies. I've tasted 9 or 10 dishes and have had my mind blown by each and every one of them. All very high quality dishes with full flavour but well balanced dishes. Great wine list too! We live in Brunswick near Coburg but more than happy to travel to the complete other side of the city for Amok Restaurant. I'd recommend going as a small group and sharing dishes
Lorna Berger
Absolutely delicious food. Zucchini flowers, crab bun, chicken ribs AMAZING!!!! Avocado dessert to die for!!!
Nicole Hoffman
Amazing, tasty food. Great atmosphere and staff were very attentive and provided fantastic service and recommendations on what to eat.

Great fusion Cambodian food, don't even feel like you are eating Asain. Although tasty & some local ingredients in the dishes, I would like to see more authentic Khmer food. The $49 8 dishes to share was really generous. Great chef, friendly and caring about his customers. Will be back.
Sylvain Taupenas
Attentive service. We had the chef selection great value for money and some amazing dishes. Very tasty.

Great place, service, ambience....beautiful take on Cambo food. Loved the King prawn bun and Salmon ginger

I have wanted to come here for some time and I was not disappointed once I experienced the fresh, varied menu options. We had the corn cob, pork belly bao, wagyu beef salad, spatchcock salad and my favourite- the squid stuffed with pork. Delicious meal, reasonably priced with friendly service. Looking forward to returning soon.

We had a great dinner , chef’s selection was amazing and they happily included the dishes that we liked from the menu <br/>Sensational food and great service
LittleMushroom
We ordered "chef’s sharing menu" which is an 8- course from the small, side, share, big & sweet menu. For 58 pp, it's worth the money! We were satisfied with portion size, variety of food and the taste!
Jdnosewine
Really interesting food in a small setting . A good range of small, medium and large dishes. Our favourites were fish amok; scotch fillet and the spiced cauliflower side. Very reasonably priced wine list from small wineries. Strongly recommend. Also consider the chef’s tasting menu.
Georgia Sing
Beautiful food, and the waiters were lovely. It was a bit cold in there, which made it slightly uncomfortable, but otherwise an excellent experience.
Desiree Munro
Absolutely superb. We had all the vegetarian options on the menu, the Merlot, (which went great with the corn) an incredible cocktail, and two delicious deserts including the surprise. <br/>Knowledgeable, friendly staff, unique dishes, everything is delicious and will please meat eaters and vegans alike. If someone told me this place had Michelin stars, I would not be surprised. Indescribably good food like nothing you will have had before or since. love, love, love it!
Josh Blayney
Fantastic service and food. We ordered the duck curry and beef ribs with a side of rice. There was not a drop of sauce or meat left on the plate.
Sharlene Waters
Our party of 24 all thoroughly enjoyed dinner at Amok.  The food was exceptional and the service fabulous.  Coped extremely well with a large crowd.  We all said it was now our favorite Melbourne restaurant .  Thanks for having us!
Sam Sain
The restaurant does a great job introducing Cambodian fusion cuisine. The staff are attentive and overall dining experience was incredible.<br/><br/> I'd recommend ordering the sharing menu. Otherwise the cured salmon on betel leaf and Scotch fillet beef lok lak are my two stand-outs.
Nina Lichtenstein
Been here before and visiting this restaurant again and giving it a 5* review just shows how this restaurant really keeps up with their good work. Food was delicious and fresh. Parking is a bit difficult but who cares!

We had such a good time here. The food was better than Supernormal and Chin Chin. The pacing was on point and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Easily my new favourite restaurant in Melbourne!
Eat_today_diet_tomorrow
First time trying modern Cambodian food. We had feed me menu. It was pretty delicious actually. Some dishes tasted similar to Thai fusion. I would rate 5/5 for the food but the service was so slow. We started at 7.45 and it took around 15 mins between each dish. Our last dish came at 10.30 pm.

This restaurant is fantastic! The place has got a great feel to it and the staff made us feel welcome. We ended up having the 8 course degustation menu as we couldn’t choose which dishes to have and we were not disappointed. The food was just delicious from the first course to the last. The duck curry was just wow. Never tried an avocado desert but it just worked. The price of the degustation is so worth the value. Definitely a place to come back to, to try the other items on the menu which looked great too.
Aaron
The presentation and the flavours of all the dishes were amazing whilst the ambience was calm and perfect for a small group. Would definitely return.
Lil Porker
Such a divine restaurant. No faults at all! At these great restaurants which are almost always busy it’s hard to get service which is equally as good as the food however here staff go above and beyond. I came here with friends and we ordered a selection of entrees and mains to share. I will definitely be returning!!
Kitty
Amazing food and full of surprises!<br/><br/>The banquet we ordered is very good value for money! High quality of food and the flavor is just spot on. We are also very happy with the service and highly recommended this restaurant!
Food Is Life
The vibe is warm and cosy when you come in. Cocktails are tasty. Service was fantastic as wait staff were super attentive. And the food was unique and delicious. Can’t wait to come back!

Headed to amok for Saturday night dinner. Place was packed n though we had a reservation had to wait some time before our table was ready which makes you feel like an inconvenience in such a small place. Service wasn’t the best with a dish missed from our order and confusion over the wine. My amoktale mocktail was faultless and beautiful well rounded drink. However staff were friendly and food come out without too much delay so wouldn’t hold it against the staff. <br/>The food here though was definitely worth writing bout. We order the crispy kind prawn brioche, eggplant chips, duck curry, vegan option of crispy tofu and the fish popcorn. All the food was packed full of flavor and very rememberable. <br/>Only food probably would order again was the vegan food (but we only order as had a vegan friend dining with us). <br/>Very enjoyable Cambodian food experience and will definitely be back
Jennitals
Ordered: cured salmon on betel leaf, king prawn brioche roll, eggplant chips, fried chicken, grilled squid and duck curry <br/><br/>LIT! ⭐️: I brought my family here and we were stuffed after demolishing everything on the plates. The star of the show was the cured salmon, duck curry and the fried chicken ribs <br/><br/>NOT SO LIT: I thought the grilled squid was a bit too chewy and wished there was a bit more sauce, but was still nice and very decadent. <br/><br/>Thanks for having us, amok!

There's a lot Fusion Asian Cuisine these days and arguably fusion can sometimes mean confusion but there's nothing to be confused about here at this humble little eatery that is giving the likes of Long Grain and Chin Chin a run for their money. ...

Patient staff and excellent food. We ordered 5 different sides and sharing plates: the sotong, fried chicken, compressed watermelon, beef tartare and eggplant chips tasted amazing
Hello. Imnikki
Two things drew me to Amok - the very high rating on Zomato, and more importantly, the fact that I have yet to try Cambodian cuisine in Melbourne before. I finally got around to ticking Amok of my must-try list when I was given the task to choose a dinner venue for a meet up with my friends.<br/><br/>Arriving at around 8pm on a Sunday, I noticed that Amok was still almost full. That's always a good sign. FYI, customers continued walking in after 9pm. This place is popular!<br/><br/>Our table of 4 shared between ourselves the king prawn brioche roll, fried chicken ribs, wagyu beef salad, duck curry and beef ribs. All the dishes shared one common similarity - packed full of bold punchy flavours that perfectly balance one another.<br/><br/>The duck curry was my absolute favourite dish of the night. The rich and luscious gravy, and the tender and meaty duck still has me drooling just thinking about it. The king prawn brioche roll was a crowd pleaser, with my friend commenting on how crunchy and juicy the prawn was, and the lively and tangy flavours from the addition of gherkin and smoked paprika mayo. My partner loved the crispy and succulent fried chicken ribs, and it went down extremely well paired with the Angkor beer.<br/><br/>The remaining two dishes were delicious and wonderfully executed as well, but the above-mentioned three dishes clearly were so much more impressive and thus memorable.<br/><br/>The kitchen was just about to close when we ordered the dessert, but they gladly accommodate our order. The service had been flawless the whole night, and this was the icing on the cake. It was lucky that we got to try the desserts, as both the Amok Surprise (taro parfait and lychee ice cream on our visit), and the vanilla coconut cream and pineapple ice cream were so delicious. Light, refreshing, impeccable flavours and a wonderful combination of textures that stimulated our taste buds to the max! If I had to nitpick, it would be that the ice cream could be creamier, and even then, this was not a deal-breaker for me at all.<br/><br/>While Amok is more Cambodian fusion located in trendy location, rather than authentic no-frills Cambodian, and the pricing reflects this, there is no denying the amazing flavours of each and every dish here, and that's something I will happily return for.

A group of us came here for dinner on a Saturday. We decided to go with the chef's sharing menu. The food was pretty good. My favourites were the soft shell crab brioche roll, duck curry and slow cooked beef ribs. The food kept coming and we were well fed. The pistachio semifreddo dessert was also a delight and a good end to the meal. The Amoktale was also delicious and refreshing! We will be returning.

First time trying Cambodian food and loving it. I ordered the Duck Curry and Eggplant chips. They are both amazing and I really recommend the duck curry. The staff was so friendly and attentive. One of my memorable restaurants in Windsor.
M&B
Absolutely delicious! Authentic taste served beautifully - had the chef's sharing plate. All the entrees were amazing. For the main - the duck curry was a bit heavy and didnt really go well with the rest of the food but overall a great dinner! Recommend.
Debby Palti
Beautiful food that is just like the neighborhood it is in - eclectic and really tasty. If you are vegan then they have a great range and can cater for allergies as well. Service is friendly and attentive. Had a great cocktail. A Cambodia style menu with a modern twist. Lovely!
Good Food Good Mood
Due to what I am deeming crazy Christmas capacity we were unable to get into our venue of choice for dinner last night given you typically don’t need a reservation to your average pizza joint but apparently yesterday you did. We went to the exotic extremes of our first Cambodian experience instead (and admittedly had to battle for a table there too).<br/><br/>I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with this style of cuisine. It was contemporary and flavoursome. Our entrees were my all time favourite betel leaf, a salmon rendition cured in aperol, vodka and coconut juice. I could have happily eaten hundreds. We also had the fried cauliflower with coconut cream and honey yoghurt, delicious.<br/><br/>It took a while for our mains to come and we were starving but they were worth waiting for. I chose the salmon which was listed on the menu simply as ‘fish amok’ but came with kind of a red curry style sauce and some dehydrated vegetable chips. This was perfectly cooked and exceptionally tasty.<br/><br/>The only real disappointment was the rice. Fortunately we had also ordered a side of eggplant chips. This read as though it was to be plated with other accompaniments but I suppose maybe they were in the batter? It was sweeter than other versions I’ve tried and I liked the yoghurt dipping sauce. It was stated as chilli yoghurt but it didn’t even have a mild kick which was fine with me. <br/><br/>Would definitely recommend, I was thoroughly impressed. And having learned since dining that the chef and owner is ex Coda and Tonka it all makes sense. The only thing I don’t understand is why I hadn’t tried it before

<br/> Having recently returned from Cambodia myself, it is a grea pleasure to be able to consume the hearty and modern flavours offered through the dishes at Amok. Absolutely blown away by the incredible flavours and Amok's modern-take on the beautiful Khmer cuisine featured from Cambodia. The dining area is beautifully laid out with traditional lamps that provide dim-lighting help to create a perfect night-out atmosphere. The staff are very patient and kind, adding towards our pleasant dining experience at Amok. <br/><br/>The Crispy Cambodian Fried Chicken was definitely a favourite!! Offering large pieces of lightly fried chicken ribs alongside an original and tangy green tea mayo dip. My favourites would have to be their Tasmanian salmon fish amok! An absolute winner of the night! My only complaint is that for $30, the 'big' fish can be considered on the small side (for my appetite!); the offering of the fish was generous, but I would love to have more of the actual amok! <br/><br/>The texture of the amok itself was silky smooth, and the flavour was powerful without any hint of hotness at all- and is rich yet not overpowering (kudos to the chefs for creating such a beautiful dish!) <br/><br/>The local garden vegetables in Cambodian red kroeung kari had a lovely zesty and seasonally fresh taste to the sauce! The chips seem to almost come with every dish (I wish we could purchase it as a side, too!); so incredibly fresh and crunchy, without the grease and oil of many fried sweet potato/taro chips!!<br/><br/>An absolutely wonderful dining experience that I would recommend to absolutely everyone! The Cambodian cuisine is quite underrated and non-existent in Melbourne, and I'm so grateful that this restaurant, Amok, is able to render the traditional cuisine justice through its modern flavours whilst still preserving the culture and flavours of the customary cuisine. Final verdict; will 100% be returning to this hidden gem in Windsor!

I've wanted to dine at Amok for a while now - partially because of the rave reviews (and high rating), and partially because I was curious to discover was Cambodian cuisine was like.<br/>The menu was really appetizing with an Asian fusion twist that seems to be so popular with the restaurants on the Windsor end of Chapel Street.<br/><br/>Amok did not disappoint. The dishes were light but packed with flavour, and included really fresh ingredients and clever use of fruit (green mango, pomelo, pomegrante). <br/><br/>The drinks (cocktails) were delicious and so easy to indulge in a few over the course of the night.<br/><br/>The mini brioche rolls were the clear favourite - I'd love to come back and try more of these!<br/>Cured salmon on betel leaves were nice and refreshing, as was the crispy school prawn salad. The slow cooked beef ribs were also a highlight - great flavours and so tender that the meat fell off the bone.<br/><br/>Dessert was enjoyed, with the "Amok Surprise" being a mango parfait on the night I visited.<br/><br/>Service was friendly too! Definitely worth visiting again to try more of the dishes!
EatsByM
Stumbled across this place on Chapel Street after being told that there was a hour wait for the restaurant we originally wanted to go to. The rating on zomato looked great and the menu looked to be quite reasonably priced, so we thought we’d give it a try. <br/><br/>Going in we didn’t know what to expect as it was Cambodian cuisine. But we found that it was more Asian fusion more than authentic Cambodian cuisine. However, it definitely did not disappoint. <br/><br/>We got the pork belly baos, fried cauliflower, chicken ribs, the duck curry and a side of rice to share. Everything was delicious and all the food had great flavor to it.<br/><br/>We were very pleased with the food and the atmosphere. So pleased with this find, and we had a great dining experience here! It was nice to get away from the really busy, Saturday night atmosphere for a nice meal on chapel street.

Friendly, prompt service with really tasty food. Shared plates were delicious...I particularly enjoyed the eggplant chips and stuffed Zucchini flowers. Mains were great too and the curried duck and pork ribs were a hit. Dessert was pineapple icecream with ginger crumb, vanilla cream and honeycomb....it sounds like too many flavours but was actually perfect.
Amy Nguyen
The best thing about this place was the service -friendly staff who constantly came around to check on us but didn’t interrupt. It was a cosy restaurant and was definitely something I would’ve easily overlooked just walking past on the street. I would recommend the feed me menu. You get a taste of Cambodia without the hassle of choosing and the excitement of the surprise. I can’t say much about how authentic the food is but it was interesting and definitely different from your typical Asian food (people tend to compare it to Vietnamese and Thai food) so its great you want to try something new. The pacing of the courses was perfect and unlike other feed me menus you’re left full, but not stuffed to brim. The only thing I can critique is that the dishes tend to be on the sweet side but that comes down to preference and personal taste.
David Fodor
What an amazing find on a night when we hadn’t made a booking and wandered in off the street without knowledge of this awesome place. The food was stunning backed by great service and a cool atmosphere. The pork belly bun bao is a must!
Thepetitefooddiary
Best prawn roll ever! We loved the Crispy King Prawn on brioche roll, chocolate bacon, gherkin and smoked paprika mayo. Sounds weird but it works!! Packed with flavour and a really crispy whole king prawn. Definitely a chef’s signature! <br/><br/>We also had the other chef’s signature dishes - Sihanoukville Grilled Squid filled with lemongrass pork and mushroom stuffing, and Duck Curry. Both were nice, squid was interesting, duck curry was hearty and filling.<br/><br/>Had eggplant chips as snacks, very crispy! <br/><br/>For dessert, we had another chef’s signature - sweet crunchy red rice ball with avocado ice cream. I thought this dish wasn’t quite balanced with the avocado ice cream flavour a bit too heavy for the warm and heavy rice ball, a lighter sweet/cold component would’ve been better. <br/><br/>All in all, like it and will return!
Mistermister
Giving myself a high five. Love this new place and cuisine. If you haven’t tried it, give it a go. I couldn’t fault this place. Punchy, punchy flavours and service to boot! Eggplant chips, fried chicken and duck curry was delicious.
SK
Wasn’t quite as impressive as the previous time we dined here. Duck curry while nice enough was dull in appearance and not packing the flavour punch I’d expected: $30 without rice felt steep.
Cindy Tandiono
OMG SO GOOOOOOD<br/>Can't believe I found this gem! Place is small but cozy. No line, which is good. It doesn't take that long to wait for the food. Everything on the menu sounds so yum. Price points are a bit high, so we only ordered 2. 1) Grilled squid with pork lemongrass and wild mushroom stuffing, crispy squid tentacles, orange watercress salad 2) slow cooked grill spicy pork ribs, Asian coleslaw, chilli coriander dressing<br/><br/>BOTH ARE GREAT. So so gooood I want to cry. Portion was soooo little though otherwise this would definitely be a 5 stars review☺️☺️

Amazing place with delicious food. The stuff is very friendly. Highly recommend to visit! A chef's special dishes are really yummy. We ordered Cambodian duck eith rise and it was amazing!

If you still haven’t visited Amok Restaurant in Windsor yet, then we would highly recommend that you do.  Celebrating their third birthday this year, this warm and inviting local gem located on Chapel Street continues to impress their customers and tantalise their tastebuds with their deliciously unique creations.

Love this place. Everything we got was absolutely delicious. Would recommend the 12 hour slow cooked beef and the squid stuffed with pork. The service was perfect - attentive and friendly. 100% will return to try everything else we didn't order!
Kat_Eats_Mel
Service is lovely -staff were attentive! Menus given right away and did not wait long for orders to be taken. Each dish we ordered had interesting and yummy flavours. I wanted to try every dish on the menu but there was only 2 of us haha. Will definitely be back again!
Rebecca
Had the ‘feed me’ menu at this modern Cambodian restaurant. We were full before the main arrived! The staff were attentive, food was good, my partner felt let down by the cocktails (he is an espresso martini snob)...

There's a lot Fusion Asian Cuisine these days and arguably fusion can sometimes mean confusion but there's nothing to be confused about here at this humble little eatery that is giving the likes of Long Grain and Chin Chin a run for their money. Amok is the brainchild of chef and proprietor Woody Chet, who after stints at other high profile restaurants around Melbourne decided to go out on his own with this Cambodian inspired Chapel Street venue in 2015.
Lisa Giles
Three of us came here last night after hearing about it through word of mouth. We were seated straight away, however they were very busy and others after us had to wait. The service was so lovely, everyone was really friendly and attentive. We ordered a lot of food, and all of it was delicious! The standouts for me were the zucchini flower, the beef salad and the duck curry! My friends loved the beef ribs the most, full of flavour and so tender. But I really don’t think you could go wrong ordering anything. Loved that it was a different sort of fusion as well, lots of flavor combos that I wasn’t used to but worked so well. My amoktale cocktail also went down really well! Highly recommend giving this place a visit!

Having a Cambodian background I’ve wanted to try this place for ages! We tried many dishes and all was excellent! There was lots of care and attention put into each dish. It isn’t like mums cooking and you can’t come here comparing, it’s a modern version and has fusion elements to the dishes! Service was excellent too! I def would be returning!

Delicious, fresh and unique combination of flavours. Excellent service in an unpretentious setting. Perfect for any night out. <br/> <br/>Started with the Kroeng marinated beef skewer and the zucchini flower, then had the betel leaf fish popcorn and beef salad. Would recommend them all.

Cute little Cambodian restaurant on chapel street. Since being in Cambodia I had noticed the lack of this cuisine in Melbourne, so when this opened my girlfriend (who I had travelled with) had to take me. Not sure how authentic it really was, but the food was ok.

Came in a Sunday night, relatively quiet, but attentive and friendly service. <br/>Amok, modern Cambodian restaurant. First time trying Cambodian food, and was surprisingly delicious. <br/>Egg plant chips, super crispy coating, with a soft and juicy middle, perfect entree for the meal. <br/>Braised beef short ribs, soft and tender, and had a great flavour, and a generous portion. <br/>Watermelon salad, sweet, sour, crispy, crunchy, super refreshing salad.<br/>Pork stuffed squid, tender squid, flavorful pork fillings, and crispy fried tentacles. <br/>Duck curry, slightly spicy, mild coconut flavour, and slightly sweeter than most curries. Tender and moist duck pieces.

We decided to try this place due to the overwhelmingly positive reviews. We got the $54 Feed Me Option and were surprised at the amount of food included and the amazing flavours and care put into each dish. The betel leaf course was a standout as was the ribs which melted off the bone and just the right amount of sauce. The dessert was another standout. The pricing of the banquet menu is really good value considering the quality of the food is easily equal to Longgrain or Chin Chin. The service is also excellent and dirty dishes were removed promptly and glasses refilled often. Highly recommended!
Karen Whitley
One of my favourite restaurants in Windsor! The food is fresh and flavourful and delicious! I love the dishes with mixes of veggies and meat

Best modern Asian in Melbourne. Even pips Longrain and Chin Chin to the post. <br/><br/>Been 3 times and it’s been consistently excellent. We’ve always ordered the banquet, so have tried many dishes. The beef short rib and the duck curry are particularly good. <br/><br/>This has got to be the most unassuming restaurant on Chapel St!
Li-La
Nice little trendy/casual restaurant in busy chapel street Windsor. 12-hour cooked beef ribs were beautiful, Amok was good, and a tasty side of fried cauliflower full of flavours. Service was very friendly, helpful, and efficient. However if you are looking for authentic Cambodian food, this is not. There are a few Cambodian dishes on the menu (like the amok) and they are very tasty but not authentic. It is more of an Asian-fusion restaurant with a few Cambodian inspired dishes. They also serve cocktails which we haven’t tried but maybe next time!
Sorrento
Amazing dinner! Came here due to reviews & were not disappointed. Amazing! Will be back! Also great value for money given quality. Had the stuffed squid (yum!) & beef ribs & duck curry off chefs recommendations on menu. Both were delicious but ribs our favourite. Also had the avocado parfait. Yum!!!!! Will def be back. $130 for share, 2 mains, dessert & 2 drinks each. Bargain!
SJ
Great atmosphere, excellent service, delicious food. Multiple vegetarian options that we're all delicious. The avocado parfait dessert was fantastic.
Steve Levon
Great food if you want to try something different. I went here with a friend and the food was yum. I would not have thought of trying Cambodian food but I was very pleasantly surprised.
Mi55Bee
Came here on a week night and it was surprisingly packed with people! Every dishes is perfect in its own way, started off with the oyster, watermelon salad and truffle mayo corn cob! Our main was the mixed vegetable curry, beef salad and rice. All amazing with mouthful of flavours, prices were cheap for what you are getting!
Michael Lui
Never had cambodian before but pleasantly surprised. Oysters were great, prawn and nutella burger was nice and crispy chicken was good too. Duck curry was different not my fav dish, nice place definitely worth a try.

Points for: modern/fusion/contemporary Asian, with Cambodian influences<br/><br/>There's nowhere else fusion-Cambodian would fit besides Chapel St - it's the home to these types of restaurants. Big up to the owners for getting the flavours of Cambodia out there.<br/><br/>There were only a handful of signature Cambodian dishes on the menu, one of which was Amok - a coconut fish curry steamed in banana leaves.<br/>The grilled corn was very good - straight off the grill, with spring onions reminiscent of the traditional coconut spring onion sauce.<br/>The chicken ribs were prepared so you could grab the bone, and was crispy, great with the Cambodian mint coleslaw.<br/>Can never go wrong with slow cooked beef ribs, which was fall off the bone tender, with the pickle cutting right through the richness.<br/><br/>Really fresh and contrasting flavours, creative dishes, but with prices to match the area.<br/>If you're over fusion Japanese/Vietnamese, give this a go!

Quite an enjoyable tasting menu, starting with some small dishes and building to 2 heavier mains at the end. <br/><br/>I thought the sauce on the oysters were a little heavy handed, I could barely taste the oyster itself, but all the other dishes were delicious. Especially the corn, that truffle mayonnaise complemented it perfectly, and the salmon curry, the salmon was so perfectly cooked I had a hard time not finishing it.<br/><br/>My only complaint is the strange portion sizes for some of the courses; firstly we had 2 of each flavor of baos, one prawn one pork, the pork one was easy to share between 4, however 2 of us ended up with jst a prawn head of the other bao and no meat at all. The desserts came out as 2 plates, which was enough, but again, was a little hard to divide. <br/> <br/>I was very impressed with the food and will definitely be back to order off the menu this time.

Was actually blown away with the taste and quality of the dishes that my partner and I shared on the 'feed me'-type banquet option. I had never thought of coming here as I have always felt it looked like an average, run-of-the-mill asian joint however the food and lovely staff proved to me that this is a case of the frontage not don't this place any justice. Food was delicious and the team are willing to help guide you with any questions and offer suggestions if you're unsure of the menu. Also very accomodating to any dietary requirements (if they can do something about it).

This place was absolutely fantastic. Cannot fault anything, the staff were wonderful and very understanding for dietary requirements. Portions were great sizes and all the food was delicious , can't wait to go back.

Amok is my new favorite, no doubt! Love everything I ate, food was packed with flavours and right balance freshness and depth of spices. Had 2 share stuffed grill squid and crispy school prawn salad and two big dishes duck curry and beef ribs shared between 4 of us. One dish after another, they delighted and surprised us. Very good portion. For someone who rarely visit the same restaurants twice, I started planning my next return even before my meal was finished. If you love Chin chin or Rice paper scissors types of food, check out this restaurant. On top of that, you can make booking, no waiting in a queue. Top notch service and atmosphere. Please do not change a thing, Amok when you become more popular, promise?!

A big shout out to H, who showed us what true hospitality should be and made our night so enjoyable.<br/><br/>Our group of 6 had a few different dietary requirements and the team here at Amok did such a great job ensuring that everyone still had a great variety of food that was prepared with care.<br/><br/>Favorite dishes of the night include:<br/>- Freshly shucked oyster, lychee boba and truffle oil - a great refreshing way to enjoy oysters<br/>- Crispy king prawn in brioche roll with CHOCOLATE BACON. This was really great, perfectly fried <br/>- House cured salmon in betel leaf - another refreshing dish with punchy flavours<br/>- Watermelon salad<br/>- Avocado parfait with tempered chocolate and butterscotch sauce<br/><br/>Definitely a place that we will visit again.

Wow. I really wasn't expecting such a flavour intensive, contemporary meal. Firstly, I must give a huge shout out to the staff - each one was so friendly, gracious and when we were welcomed and seated, we were given a back story to the chef which helped introduce us to our dining experience.<br/><br/>Whilst quite relaxed, Amok plates up some vibrant and refreshing food - showing respect and understanding to its produce and culture. The oysters; fresh and with an Asian twist. The popping pearls were and interesting addition. The bao was nice and fluffy, but the prawn roll was a hands down winner.<br/><br/>The kingfish was a little parcel packed full of wonderful flavours. Wrapped in a betel leaf, the kingfish carried the coconut flavours well, while the addition of pomegranate helped to add a bit of textured crunch and sweetness to pull back the dish.<br/><br/>The twice cooked ribs with the addition of dehydrated pineapple - smart, and well played. Plated well and accompanied our prawn salad nicely. <br/><br/>For desserts we tried the avocado parfait and the sorbet delight - both, well plated without showing off. Definitely a wonderful note to finish off on; light, refreshing, and well balanced, as had all dishes been.

We have just had the most amazing meal this evening.<br/>From the oysters to start with, to the most amazing desert and all the dishes in between.<br/>Flavours and presentation absolutely 5 star.<br/>Absolutely fantastic staff, a very busy service and yet every dish came out separately to share.<br/>A real treasure trove of great flavours
Suburb Review
Dined here for dinner last night and selected the feed me option.. it may not seem like a big portion but it will get filling...trust me!<br/>The dessert was my fav course of the night and i'm not usually big on sweets. The avocado dessert was so unique and perfect..LOVED IT. The other dishes were okay. Amok is good to try once i guess, too fusion for my liking.
A Chronicle Of Gastronomy
Amok is the pride and joy of chef and owner Woody Chet, originally from Cambodia. After stints at places including Tonka and Coda, Woody decided to branch out on his own and introduce more of his native cuisine to Melbourne. Amok is a traditional dish of coconut milk-based curried fish, steamed in a banana leaf cup. You can definitely try it here, but there’s also much more than that.
Simmyeats.Melb
I have never had Cambodian food and I didn't know what to expect.  We ordered the cured kingfish and zucchini flower for entree and the duck curry and chargrilled black angus steak -  WOW! That duck curry was unbelievable and the sauce that came with the angus steak was just superb.  The entrees were nice but for me the stand out was definitely the mains.  The restaurant is also BYO so bonus points there.   I will definitely be coming back to Amok.
Julia Eats Melbourne
I must admit, I am a little bit scared to give AMOK such a great review for one very good reason: too many people might start going and they might then start resembling every other restaurant I am frustrated with on Chapel St! Let's get on with why this is such a great place then. Firstly, you can actually book a table without a kick out time (shocking I know!) and it's even down the trendy end of Chapel St where there are so many places you can't book & if even if you can they kick you out 2 hours after your enter despite you spending a heap. Secondly you can BYO! It's $10 corkage per bottle but that's fine, head to Dan's before hand and get a nice drop for $20 and you're still ahead. Thirdly, the service is prompt & friendly. Now for the finale and most important feature: the food is absolutely excellent. I have been 3 times now (most recently last night) and each time I have thought to myself that this is one of my favourite places to eat in Melbourne. The prices are very reasonable given the excellent quality and freshness, the flavours are to die for and there are so many unique things on the menu. I can personally recommend the kingfish betel leaf, calamari salad, zucchini flower, salmon Amok, slow cooked ribs and basically absolutely anything you try. If you are hungry do the FEED ME for $54 it is an absolute treat and you will be stuffed. You will thank me if you decide to head to Amok, as has everyone else I have sent there to date. A note to AMOK, please don't change a thing!

Delicious modern twist on Cambodian food. Amazing flavours. Squid stuffed with pork was the highlight. Chef hails from Coda & Tonka I believe so no need to say anymore!
Trish.yurcina
Excellent quality Cambodian food. The Fish Amok, beef ribs and the stuffed squid was amazing. Good service a great place in Chapel street. <br/>Great to try Cambodian food as there are not a lot of these in Melbourne.

Choosing a favourite dish from this menu is like choosing a favourite child. <br/>Everything on it is so damn good. <br/>Try everything, trust me you won't be disappointed as there are some amazing flavours throughout the menu.<br/>Even the deserts rock!

Recommended by a friend. Certainly not let down . Excellent food and service. Accommodating of diatary requirements. Will definitely be coming back in the future. <br/>

This place is easily one of the best restaurants in Melbourne and completely overlooked (I'm guessing because of its minimalist interior). I have no idea how I only just discovered it but I'll keep coming back. So far, I have been 3 times and each experience was sensational. The calamari salad, the beef salad and the beef ribs are the standouts, but the lamb cutlet was fantastic and the oysters were super fresh. Incredible food, quick service, surprisingly easy to get a table and the ability to book is a much-appreciated novelty on Chapel.

Let's call this a delicious and creative interpretation of Cambodian cuisine using local ingredients. Having enjoyed a lot of Cambodian food throughout various parts of the country, IMO this is more adjusted for the hipster vicinity than authentic. E.G. the fish amok in Cambodia uses white fish, so having a salmon version with rich sauces is different, but still really yum. Other flavoursome dishes sampled were crunchy chicken ribs, tender beef ribs and sweet duck curry. Each one was so tasty I'm glad we got to try it. Funky, romantic setting befitting the Windsor area. Polite, friendly service but occasionally felt like they were hurrying us.
The Frugal Cats
We loved everything about Amok! It was our first time having Cambodian food. Service was prompt, friendly and food arrived fairly quickly. For drinks for ordered the mango and pomegranate mocktail and the ice tea. Both were perfect for a hot Melbourne evening! For our entrée we had the fried chicken rib with macha dipping sauce. Could not fault the dish! For mains we had the duck curry and the salmon curry with steamed rice. By far the most delicious curries we've ever had! Both the salmon and duck were cooked to perfection. Serving sizes were pretty generous too. Overall, we really enjoyed our dining experience! We highly recommend Amok and we will definitely be back to try more items from the menu :3
Little One
Dined at Amok with a group of 8. Very busy and noisy on a Saturday night. First time I have eaten modern Cambodian cuisine so can't comment on the authenticity of the flavours. Nevertheless what mattered was the taste and dining experience. We decided on the banquet which was good value for...
Iamapotato
Had my Cambodian food cherry popped here with a large group dinner. I only wished I did it sooner. The Cambodian duck curry was generously portioned, with delicious sauce that goes so well with rice, you would be tempted to keep asking for more rice just to not let that sauce go to waste. We got the crispy chicken ribs because it came with a matcha mayo and I was curious how that would taste like. The answer is 'awesome'. Ribs were crispy and moist inside, the matcha mayo really adds a lightness to the flavour. The grilled calamari salad is also a favorite. Great crunchy freshness with sharp but not overwhelming tanginess. I also liked the amok sweet ice tea. At first glance you may be taken aback by the $5 price tag, especially when you see the size of the glass it is served in, but it tastes so good that I quickly forgave that fact. I had two that night and I had to pee twice in an hour. Worth it.
Esmerelda
This is a great local place. Exceptional food, you can tell the chef is of the Coda and Tonka pedigree! We had the tasting menu for $49 per person, and we thought it was great value for such quality food. <br/><br/>Keep up the great work guys!
Khpn
Came here based on a friend's recommendation and it did not disappoint. We ordered the tasting menu for 2 at $49 pp for 8 courses which was great value. The courses came out promptly one after the other. As soon as one dish was cleared, the next soon followed. Everything was great, with standout courses being the prawn bao, beef rib and dessert. Some of dishes left me confused as to where the cambodian influence was, however tasty nonetheless. Service was good. Would come back.
Eat Like Ushi
I like exploring Windsor. After a couple of meals at the new Belle's and House of Hoi An, I was keen to look around more. There's so many restaurants and bars in an atmosphere more relaxed than in the northern parts of frenetic Chapel Street. After my first Cambodian restaurant (other than in Cambodia of course) at Bopha Devi in Yarraville, I was keen to try another. Comparatively Amok is designed to be cooler (fitting in with the surrounds), with a menu that seems more modern using such ingredients like truffle oil and pomegranate. The menu reads beautifully.
Nelly
Truth be told I have never tried Cambodian before. So it's impossible to compare, but I do know what I like to eat and this fits the bill.<br/><br/>It's not a fine dinning place and could be on the expensive side. But damn the food was good. Yes I swore, sorry. The only reason this is not a perfect score was purely due to the pricing. The food was that good so if I swear it's only to make a point.<br/><br/>Will be happily returning.
Gastrology
Reflecting Khmer culture and etiquette, Amok opened in Chapel Street, Windsor without fanfare and chaos, instead opting for grace and gratitude. This subtle yet inviting approach allowed husband and wife team, chef Woody Chet (previously from Coda and Tonka) and Chanthida Penh to gently introduce Cambodian cuisine to locals. The result is a restaurant that possesses a highly inviting atmosphere and is loved by locals.
Bioslaya
A hidden gem in Windsor and had me interested in Cambodian food.  The dishes here are not authentic Cambodian--like Chin Chin is not authentic Thai--so this is the perfect place to take the less adventurous to.<br/><br/>We had:<br/>- Oyster with pomegranate boba, Kampot black pepper and truffle oil; delicious and refreshing entree<br/>- Grilled corn cob, truffle oil mayonnaise, balsamic spring onion; Juicy grilled corn with just a hint of smoke<br/>- Crispy Prawn in brioche roll; Very good, OMG.  Most of the bacon flavour is masked by the chocolate, but overall provides an interesting texture, combined with the soft brioche roll and crunchy prawn.<br/>- BBQ pork belly bun; Pretty good, this is but one version of the many versions you can find in Melbourne.<br/>- Salmon on betel leaf; Refreshing salad, perfect palate cleanser for our mains.<br/>- Grilled calamari salad; Another refreshing salad, could do with a little more calamari in it.<br/>- Crispy chicken ribs; one of the favourites, we ordered an extra serving for the table.<br/>- Organic wagyu salad; I wasn't sure about this one as wagyu tend to be quite rich, but the salad components were very complimentary.  Great flavours!<br/>- Grilled lamb cutlets; I'm not a big fan of lamb, so I didn't have more than 1 cutlet but what I had I cleaned it to the bone :)<br/>- Tasmanian salmon amok; The disappointment of the night.  Hawker Hall made the same mistake with their banana leaf steamed fish.  Salmon tends to have its own strong flavour which is rarely co-operative with coconut's delicate flavours.  Chin Chin made a good call using white fish in their yellow curry.<br/>- Cambodian duck curry; Great dish, flesh-off-the-bone duck :)<br/>- Chargrilled succulent scotch fillet; This dish disappeared like magic. <br/>- Beef Ribs; Second favourite, we ordered an extra service for the table.  Succulent ribs and there were actually significant amount of meat on (a rarity in my experience with beef ribs).<br/>- Desserts: Amok Surprise, Vanilla Coconut Cream and Red Rice Ball: All of the desserts from Amok is worth a try, they have interesting textures and unexpected flavours.  Definitely loving the avocado ice cream, however like the offerings from Chin Chin and Hawker Hall, it would be good to have a dessert with with one or two main flavours combined with complementing flavours rather than desserts which are a melange of complementing flavours.
Ramieleatsshootsandleaves
Enjoyed the atmosphere here. Prompt, friendly service and good waiting time.<br/>Our favorite item was the crumbed prawn burger, and I liked my oyster to start.<br/>The red rice dessert ball was very firm - taste-wise it all worked well with avocado icecream, but the red rice needs much more time to soften.<br/>One of the best for good prices for modern, casual dining :)

I loved this restaurant. It's fusion take on Cambodian food is delicious. The night we went it happened to be their anniversary and everyone got complimentary sparkling and an entree. The staff were friendly and the service was quick. I highly recommend their lamb appetiser. I will definitley return to try other dishes.

Stumbled upon this place after being offered a 2 hour wait at Hawker Hall (ridiculous), and he food was so much better than Hawker Hall! Pork Belly bun was delicious but sweet. Cambodian duck curry is a must try, sweet and spicy goodness. Salmon portion size was on the small side but very rich. Service was good and attentive. Will be coming back!

Heard and read about this little restaurant and decided to try it out. Got seated pretty promptly without any reservations which was great. We had the prawn salad - fresh and zesty- I loved it. Lamb ribs which was really nice and tender, huge serving as well. I ordered the soft shell crab which was the winter warmer, it was a bit to oily for me and most probably would not order this again. The cauliflower side was lovely.<br/><br/>The service was friendly and prompt. Will definitely try to get back there again. I am glad that I found this little restaurant.
Sara Mao Chhooy
My partner and I decided to pick Amok as a Tuesdate location one night. Although I was hesitant at first after a bad experience at Bopha Devi "Cambodian Cuisine" we went ahead and ate here anyway. <br/><br/>Prior to coming through, I did a loooooot of research into what's good to order, what's popular and I even did a little stalk of the owner to see how authentic the food quality would be. <br/><br/>We ordered variants to balance everything out. <br/>The chicken ribs were something a little different. It had a great taste and texture to it. The accompanying sauce played an important role in the dish and was stunning. <br/>I only ordered one lonely oyster because I was curious as to how it would taste and well the man ain't about that slimy life. The textures were slimy as per an oyster should be. The flavours were also quite interesting. But it's something I can't describe. <br/>The Wagyu beef salad was the highlight of my meal. It really felt like a true Cambodian dish. No idea what the chef used in it but the flavours are how the traditional dish. I also love the banana blossom in it!<br/>We also ordered some side bits and pieces - the watermelon salad and the tofu in curry sauce. <br/>Everything went so so well together. I was more than impressed with the meal and service. <br/><br/>I can honestly say from the bottom of my heart, Amok serves the best quality food - with a twist or not, it was delicious and I will definitely be back.<br/><br/>

Just had THE BEST dinner at Amok! Can't believe this place has been open for a year, only 1.5km from my house and I've never been until now. The food was incredible!! Pork bao buns with a great hit of chilli. Amazing stuffed squid, delicious prawn salad and the chicken ribs were TO DIE FOR! Oh and can't forget the side dish of fried cauliflower with pomegranate - next level yummmmmm. Honestly was blown away by the food and such friendly service too. I'm sold! Will be back very soon!
Cookielessvee
modern cambodian food with a variety of dishes. Peaceful atmosphere with nice ambient music. <br/><br/>corn is crispy, well flavoured and the sweet and tangy sauce compliments.<br/><br/>ribs are amazing, just falls off the bone and is topped with a generous amount of salad<br/><br/>Overall, service and food comes out relatively quick and would recommend the corn.
Kane Lillywhite
Delicious flavors and a great alternative to the usual noisy, bogan-chic big-noter restaurants up the Windsor end of Chapel Street. Reasonable priced also! Will definitely return.

I was so impressed by Amok. We were able to get a table of four without any fuss or wait, a rare thing on Chapel St. The food was fresh and the flavours authentic and delicious. The corn cobs were a perfect starter, other stand outs were the spicy pork ribs (a good amount of heat but didn't leave you crying), the popcorn fish wrapped in betel leaves left us wanting more, eggplant chips with a dipping sauce were crunchy and lightly fried yet not greasy or heavy, duck curry and twice cooked beef ribs were both exceptional. The service was friendly and efficient. I left feeling greatly satisfied but not bloated or overfed. Will be back hopefully before the rest of Melbourne discovers this gem.
ChrisC
Friendly staff, casual and funky fit out.....food was delicious. No one should leave this venue without having the prawn brioche with chocolate bacon.... it's a brilliant invention
MissC
Came here last night after rave reviews from my chef brother. Ordered the Chef tasting menu and I must say.... the entire meal was OUTSTANDING! The quality, complex and balanced flavour and technique of each dish was second to none and is on par with Chapel's big dogs Tokia Tina, Hawker Hall etc. This modern take of Cambodian sure did impress. Will be spreading the word!

I wasblown away by the food, service and atmosphere at Amok. .A good friend of mine had raved about how terrific this place was so I thought I would give it a go. It was incredible. We ordered the banquet and were very satisfied. The quality of the food is second to none. Everything was so fresh and full of flavour. The atmosphere was on point and the staff were extremly kind and made us feel so very welcome. I most certainly would recommend this restaurant. It's a hidden gem. Thank you for a terrific evening. Will be sure to be back to visit again soon.

The crispy duck curry was amazing and lee loved the salmon Beatle leaf entree. Service was fantastic. We Will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu

My wife and I couldn't find a table for a late dinner on Chapel St after about 5 or 6 attempts. <br/><br/>We saw the sign for Amok and perused the menu. Restaurant was almost empty when we arrived so we wondered if that was a bad omen. <br/><br/>We couldn't have been more wrong. <br/><br/>Friendly and informative wait staff. Each dish came out in good time, allowing us to savour each course and the great variety on offer.<br/><br/>Our first experience here was great and we would definitely return! <br/><br/>Sweet, salty, sour, spicy flavours abound! Awesome variety. We sampled dishes such as sliders, stuffed zucchini flowers, a salad and a chicken curry cooked in a banana leaf. Awesome food! Give this place a go!
Lanaa
popped into this place very randomly and I must say WOW! due to my ignorance probably, I didnt know anything about Cambodian food but it was fantastic, It was close to Thai( which I love) but interestingly different. The menu was very interesting, I love the surprise of ordering something you just cant figure out how it ll be served and I definately recommend this place!
Vadim Gribov
What an amazing find. Having not heard of this place before I am so glad to have stumbled across it. Amazing food, friendly and efficient service, no wait time (although with such quality food I think it will not last long). Will definitely be back and I can see this becoming my local favourite.
Michael Todd
this understated Cambodian wonder is a match for all of the fashionable Thai Fusion offerings that have saturated Melbourne over the last 4 years.<br/>The Cambodian chef (who co-owns with his wife) creates a number of adventurous twists to traditional Cambodian food (which at its roots is similar to Thai). highly recommend the wagu beef. slowed cooked pork or the spicy chicken ribs. all starters were a treat....the oysters being a highlight. id recommend first timers tuck into the Chefs's Selection at $45 per person you'll be delighted with the wonderful flavours and terrific value for money. I went along with 5 buddies - all of us were very impressed. Give it a try!
Danica Chhit-Lam
Had a great experience at this hidden treasure. Wonderful well-mannered staff, delicious food and amazing atmosphere. The chef even came out to greet us and checked to make sure we were happy with our food! Haven't had that in a long time. They were also very accommodating for my little girl. Felt very comfortable. We will definitely be back!
Will
Great service and the food is as creative and flavoursome as any of the (overhyped) food halls you'll find on the street. Difference is here the owner makes the food, rather than being part of some sort of restaurant super-syndicate!
Anne Stephens
If 100 stars were possible I'd give it to them! Excellent service and exquisite flavours in small but many delicious delicate servings. Great value. This is Melbourne's best kept secret.
SASG
A wonderful, exciting experience.  Was taken here by a friend (Anglo-Australian) recently returned from Cambodia who was just as happy as me.  I've spent a lot of time in Vietnam and was delighted at the difference in the cuisines.  The food was top quality and interesting, and almost as excellent as the food was the concern and care of the co-owner who manages front of house and was our waitress - she seemed to get genuine joy from our delight at each new mix of flavours.  Get here quick before it becomes too popular - it was pretty full on the first Monday in January.  It's deservedly popular. For me, the best dining experience since the three Michelin star French Laundry in the Napa Valley - obviously very, very different experiences and price tags but similarly memorable.
Rob
Incredible restaurant!! And head and shoulders above the other already fantastic Asian fusion-y eateries that end of Chapel street - I can't keep away! Personal favorites are the pulled beef sliders and the duck curry. <br/>From the street you could be forgiven for thinking Amok was just your average Asian eat-in/take-out, but you'd be wrong. Maybe Melbourne's best kept secret?
Konrad Spies
We stumbled upon this place with the cute little sign saying "try something new, eat Cambodian" and we were immediately intrigued! Both waitresses were absolutely lovely and the food was fantastic. We had the grilled corn cob, cured salmon and fish popcorn betel leaf, twice cooked beef rib and the grilled lamb cutlets - all stacked with flavour! Lovely vibe beautiful setup. To add to it all, the chef was in the restaurant smiling at both us and his staff which is always lovely to see. Couldn't resist giving a tip and will definitely be back.
Kim
I was really happy to stumble across a great little find at the fun end of chapel. I went to Cambodia recently and loved the flavours so was curious to try Cambodian food with a modern twist. We had the zucchini flower, pork ribs and the amok and loved them all. There were other dishes that sounded really interesting and creative.<br/><br/>Staff were friendly and attentive and prices were good given the quality and flavours of the food. This is definitely a place with trying if you like south East Asian flavours and want to try something less generic than Thai and Vietnamese food.  I'll be heading back there again next week :)
Rhyss W
Fantastic food, great service and a really friendly atmosphere - thoroughly enjoyed it and would go back again. I liked how the food was fairly authentic but in a way that white people can enjoy it. Nice rich and fresh food.
Trish Armstrong
Fantastic Cambodian food. Very fresh and delicious flavours similar to Vietnamese. Very good service and friendly staff. Will be going back to try some different dishes. Definitely worth trying this new restaurant.

Wonderful food - every dish we ordered was delicious - service was exceptional. 5 hats standard at extremely reasonable prices. A must visit for anyone who loves food.

Worth the drive wherever you are!<br/><br/>I couldn't get the flavours that lingered on my palate out of my mind so a second visit within a week was a must. <br/><br/>Food: Chef Woody Chet is a standout talent (previously from Coda and Tonka) and has designed a menu that balances all the wonderful flavours of Khmer cuisine perfectly. Using the freshest ingredients, you can taste each ingredient that compliments the other and doesn't overpower. There are bursts of sweet with savoury and kicks of spiciness that just sit well. Also, there is a good offering of gluten free options that my partner enjoyed. <br/><br/>Service: Friendly and attentive, our host was running the floor like a well oiled machine - never missing a beat. She was also happy to take the time to explain each of the dishes. <br/><br/>Ambience: Amok is new to the scene and has an inviting and intimate setting. Furnishings include artifacts and subtle reminders of Cambodia. Very clean restaurant and great for couples, friends and families.<br/><br/>Dishes to try: All of them! We ordered the chef's sharing menu and enjoyed the oysters, cured salmon betel leaves, pork belly bao bun, prawn slider, frilled quail and the signature amok surprise for dessert. <br/><br/>There is a reason why this restaurant is consistently rated 4.5+ and from what I can see, the 1 rating was from a troll or competitor (?). Do yourself a favour and try it before word gets out.

Secret's out Melburnians! <br/><br/>It's very rare to find a Cambodian restaurant in Australia, let alone Melbourne - the food capital. Khmer food is often overlooked for Thai or Vietnamese and while the influences are similar, Khmer food is subtle yet punchy. Humble young husband and wife team have poured their heart and soul into giving you a modern interpretation of Khmer cuisine. <br/><br/>Our lovely host was attentive, friendly and inviting taking us through each of the dishes. Pleasantly surprised with how many gluten-free options there are so ordering was an enjoyable experience (for once!) We opted for the chef's selection (highly recommended) plus some additional dishes and we were not disappointed. The six courses came in a timely order and every dish ignited the taste buds. <br/><br/>All of them were highlights - oysters, cured salmon betel leaves, prawn sliders, pork belly baos, zucchini flowers, grilled corn cobs (sauce is amazing), fish popcorn in betel leaves, wagyu beef rump, slow cooked pork ribs, calamari salad and the vanilla coconut cream and red rice ball for desserts. <br/><br/>We spoke with the chef who is so passionate about his craft and sharing it with his guests. Having done the hard yards at Tonka and Coda, he definitely shines at Amok. A must visit to tantalise the senses and for those wanting to experience new flavours that will have you coming back for more.
Miguel Sanchez Robertson
We had an impromptu dinner here and the food is superb . We spent 60 a head for 6 courses including a bottle of wine. Absolutely sensational value for the quality of food we ate and we didn't leave hungry.
Thea Tran
Great food and even better customer service. We had the crispy prawn roll with the chocolate bacon - delish, cured salmon betel leaf - devine, the twice cooked beef ribs - definitely a must try and finished off with the vanilla coconut cream dessert. We ended up rolling ourselves out of Amok, satusfied. Definitely on the shortlist of favourites and coming back.

Amok is an absolute treasure. The food is fresh, creative and full of flavour. We found out tonight that the chef is an ex-Tonka and Coda chef and the food definitely lives up! Highly recommend the betel leaf with cured salmon, beef short ribs and duck curry. Cosy atmosphere and great service!
Chethan
Absolutely delightful experience both interms of aesthetics with recycled seating and the cuisine. The chef was a master of flavours, the playful fusion with authentic Cambodian spices will leave your pallet wanting for more. From oysters and beatle leave entree to fresh calamari saldas and The AMOK fish curry was nothing less than a trip to food paradise. The pleasant smile every time you talk to the staff adds to the experience. #MustVisit

Greeted by friendly staff on a cold winter evening. Small but flavoursome menu. We shared 2 of the medium plates and particular enjoyed fish popcorn starter. Spicy and delicious. Main course fish amok with rice. Will definitely be coming back.
Sandra
A delicious dining experience. This restaurant served up complex, fragrant dishes that left me satisfied and full, and planning to go back soon! Staff were excellent - helpful and made good recommendations. The contemporary Cambodian soundtrack was a great accompaniment to contemporary Cambodian food. Will return to explore more of the menu as soon as possible and will bring friends and family. Highly recommended.

The chef was horrible. I have nothing good to say about this place except the tables were great. I'd love to know who made them............................................ The girl on reception was lovely tho

Beautifully fresh, delicious food at Amok with great service. The Duck Curry was delicious, lamb cutlets beautifully succulent and the octopus salad was so good we ordered another. Dessert of Ginger Creme Parfait with fruit and edible flowers was <br/>light and delicious. Great food, excellent service and definitely a must try.

Incredible food!!!! Absolutely mouth watering! We booked for my sisters farewell with a table of 15 and every single one of us was blown away by the food! Delicious meals that are different and affordable The oysters were so yummy!!! The zucchini flower dish was so tasty! The beef dish Devine! Seriously I could not recommend this place and higher! We were all so impressed! They had amazing staff and gorgeous decor, loved the antique, rustic, recycled timber furniture and the happy and fun atmosphere! It's a best kept secret!

Been to Amok twice with family and friends because the food is simply amazing! So far, I have tried the oysters, pork bun, calamari salad, cured salmon, duck curry, beef ribs and salmon. Each had its own unique flavour, was presented beautifully and very filling! I have also tried both of the desserts, which were equally as delicious. Owners and staff are bubbly, friendly and look after all of their customers very well. Highly recommend visiting Amok for a feed!

What a great addition to the crowded scene of Southern Chape Street restaurants. The flavours of lime, coriander, coconut and chillie abound in subtlety different ways to other Asian menus particularly in meats not usually associated with SE Asian cooking - like Angus beef...but this is deliberate...the proprietors are clearly looking for a successful point of difference from the other very popular Asian restaurants that surround it...I am sure they have that well worked out...best wishes...Jonny B

Went to Amok for dinner with my wife, son and daughter-in-law. We all loved our different dishes and found the service excellent. The food was very fresh and beautifully prepared. Looking forward to going again.
The Dodgy End
I stumbled upon this new restaurant last night so immediately gave it a try.  I was particularly interested as I’d been to Cambodia earlier in the year and not only tried amok, I’d learned to make it in a cooking school.  Amok is one of the most traditional dishes of Cambodia and is a curried fish dish steamed in a banana leaf.

All I can ask is where have you been all these time? I have been searching for these kind of food,, service and price for a very long time.  I've been there at least twice a week since Amok opened its door.  Have tried most of the dishes on the menu and they were all amazing.  Nothing to fault.  however my favourite have to be Fish Amok, Cambodian Duck Curry, Pork Ribs, the Oysters, and the vanilla coconut cream dessert. yummmmm.  This Place has got a nice / warm ambient.  Love the décor, I feel right at home.  Would recommend this place to those who love modern fusion Cambodian cuisin or those who have not tried Cambodian food.  Give it a go, you won't be disappointed.

What a great new restaurant!! A must try for all! The food is mixed brilliantly with a mixture of different tastes and spices. My recommendations are definitely the pulled pork buns and the pork ribs, and the corn (the sauces are divine!) and for dessert, the avocado cream- it just works!! The customer service is amazing, such lovely, bubbly staff. I also loved the extra little details like the art around the restaurant- look at the painting of the woman when you come down the stairs from the toilet! 5* food and service for a very reasonable price.

Delicious food, wonderful service and ambience. We loved the Fish Amok and Grilled Tiger Prawn. The desserts were also a highlight - we shared the Vanilla Coconut Cream and the Red Rice Ball with Avocado Cream. Can't wait to go back soon and sample more of the menu.

Newly opened Khmer street food restaurant in Chapel St! Awesomeness in every mouthful! Fussy eaters? Not a problem, there's a dish to suit the harshest young critic, we had 4 little people and they were won over with the rolls, the twice cooked beef, the lamb cutlets and dessert! Staff are super friendly and it is a great place to escape the cold!
