Being Cambodian, I am not only rejoicing that we have a restaurant in Australia's food capital that represents sumptuous modern Khmer food but also so proud that amok restaurant does it so incredible well.
Every dish is flawless that from a notorious salt & pepper shaker, any additional condiments is redundant as chef Woody gets the flavours perfectly right. I always recommend the chef's sharing menu so that you can sample all the eight courses in one sitting. The service is impeccable, down to earth and friendly. Stay long enough and the chef walks out for a good old chat to check in on you.
Despite rolling out of there completely full and some more, it doesn't stop me from going back even if it's about a 45 minute drive. Totally worth it.
Love this place. The food is made special by the amazingly good flavours on the plate.
Everyone at our table loved their dishes.
Duck curry, fish popcorn and the wagui beef salad were standouts.
Non pretentious, reasonable prices and great staff all add to a great experience.
Will be back for sure.
I have wanted to come here for some time and I was not disappointed once I experienced the fresh, varied menu options. We had the corn cob, pork belly bao, wagyu beef salad, spatchcock salad and my favourite- the squid stuffed with pork. Delicious meal, reasonably priced with friendly service. Looking forward to returning soon.
We had a great dinner , chef’s selection was amazing and they happily included the dishes that we liked from the menu
Sensational food and great service
We ordered "chef’s sharing menu" which is an 8- course from the small, side, share, big & sweet menu. For 58 pp, it's worth the money! We were satisfied with portion size, variety of food and the taste!
Really interesting food in a small setting . A good range of small, medium and large dishes. Our favourites were fish amok; scotch fillet and the spiced cauliflower side. Very reasonably priced wine list from small wineries. Strongly recommend. Also consider the chef’s tasting menu.
Beautiful food, and the waiters were lovely. It was a bit cold in there, which made it slightly uncomfortable, but otherwise an excellent experience.
Absolutely superb. We had all the vegetarian options on the menu, the Merlot, (which went great with the corn) an incredible cocktail, and two delicious deserts including the surprise.
Knowledgeable, friendly staff, unique dishes, everything is delicious and will please meat eaters and vegans alike. If someone told me this place had Michelin stars, I would not be surprised. Indescribably good food like nothing you will have had before or since. love, love, love it!
Fantastic service and food. We ordered the duck curry and beef ribs with a side of rice. There was not a drop of sauce or meat left on the plate.
Our party of 24 all thoroughly enjoyed dinner at Amok. The food was exceptional and the service fabulous. Coped extremely well with a large crowd. We all said it was now our favorite Melbourne restaurant . Thanks for having us!
The restaurant does a great job introducing Cambodian fusion cuisine. The staff are attentive and overall dining experience was incredible.
I'd recommend ordering the sharing menu. Otherwise the cured salmon on betel leaf and Scotch fillet beef lok lak are my two stand-outs.
Been here before and visiting this restaurant again and giving it a 5* review just shows how this restaurant really keeps up with their good work. Food was delicious and fresh. Parking is a bit difficult but who cares!

Some of the best food I've eaten in Melbourne. We mixed and matched our own dishes to share. The crispy things were light and crisp, the amok curries with fish and duck perfectly balanced (and the flavour took me back to a cooking lesson in Cambodia). Fish popcorn was a delight (crispy with zingy greens to accompany) and chicken ribs extra yum. Desserts were tasty, inventive and different: crispy rice ball with avocado ice cream totally works and I really enjoyed the pineapple through the other. Staff were attentive and food came out quickly. All thumbs up, thank you!
Had my birthday dinner there with a large group. A superb experience for us all - our first time experiencing modern Khmer food. Woody and the team were fantastic during their service, ensuring all guests in the restaurant at the time were well looked after. The tables are well spread out so you can hear yourself talk with your table. Highly recommended place to eat and drink and will definitely dine there again.
Loved the family favorite, vegetarian. Had zucchini flower for start and that was mounth watering. All dishes are full of flavor and tasty. Definitely will come back. Keep the quality guys the same, thumbs up!
Excellent food, and very reasonably priced ($62 for the 8 course chef's selection). Like everywhere else, maybe a bit short staffed at the moment.
Sadly, the menu notes 'no MSG' added - restaurants should stop doing this (and use MSG, which makes food taste better).
My 2nd time here and the food was delicious.
I can comment on the authenticity sonce I haven't been to Cambodia myself, however, the food is great.
We had the oysters, grilled corn, steak salad, grilled squid salad and crispy pork belly.
The steak salad was the highlight.
The grilled squid salas-a tad sweet for me. My dining partner thought the squid couldve been softer, but I loved it slightlt firm as is, tastes like lightly sundried squids we get by the beach of Nha Trang.
Crispy pork belly salad was ok, however the crispy pork was not crispy. So other than not matching the name, it was good.
Everything went down well with white rice. We enjoyed it very much!
Staff and service was good and friendly. I'd say this is one of the places where the standards are the same as pre covid.
Highly recommended for an asian dining experience on Chapel Street!
just wanna said, the food was so good, and the staff and the chef are so sweet and so nice, this would be my very first time to have Cambodian food, it’s amazing, refreshing, pretty light. even the chicken rib was deep fried.
i have the song san island, taste so great, not very strong but it’s very tasty.
Great Cambodian restaurant! Was recommended by a friend and it turns out very good! The boss’s so friendly! Love it x
