Review Hawker Hall - Windsor

Shanae Tantram
We had such a great time at Hawker Hall. The team were fantastic. We walked in last night (Friday) and decided to sit at the bar. Our section waiter was so helpful, attentive and was obviously passionate about her job which made our night even more enjoyable. Thank you 🥰 We did the $66 banquet. You will definitely not leave hungry. We had a great selection of dishes. Standouts were the popcorn chicken, prawn dumplings and barramundi. Yum, yum, yum! Also, the Friday night DJ was killer, so many good tunes and vibes 🔥

Staff were so lovely and attentive. We tried the banquet and it didn’t disappoint! So many food options I never would’ve picked myself but fell in love with. Cocktails were incredible and a great vibe. Will definitely be back

The food was awesome, nice and fresh, flavourful, nicely presented and well cooked. Delicious! Great place for bunch of people. I went alone it was great too the staff was friendly. Chinese kitchen with a western twist. That's what I call fusion food. Heaps of booze choices, stunning overall style indoor decor. Great dining experience! Thank you will definitely recommend!

We went for a casual dinner, but it turn out a surprise package. So we ordered this $66 p/p food. That is hell lot of food, followed by dessert. We ended up not eating all and packed some take away boxes. So good if you have great capacity to eat for that package. Else just have 1 dish at a time. Wibes were amazing and this guys who served us, provided an amazing service. Make it extra special for me and my friend. Enjoyed the music and drinks. Highly recommended.

It used to be one of the our fav in this area, but this time we felt the quality of food has fallen badly, the portion is also becoming smaller. However the customer service is pretty good. Request management to take this a positive feedback to ensure quality and portion of food is maintained. The price for a barramundi fillet is ~40 Aud, you gotta ensure the quality is good. Same for chicken dishes in curries. We got only four small pieces among many potatoes 😂😂😂.

So tasty!!!! My partner and I came in for a beer and a snack and had a great experience! The food was so tasty and full of flavour! You have to try the tofu with lettuce cups, soooo yum! The staff were really friendly and they had a great beer selection!

I came in on a Saturday afternoon and we sat outside - so we didn't experience some of the other issues people had with the loud music, service was good and friendly They have a couple of feed me options which looked great but we just ordered a couple of dishes as per my pic and we had 4x beers and it came to just over $100. The curry was great and the fish was nicely fried but please add more pineapple there was hardly any in it ! So whilst it's is expensive Asian food (I mean a name with Hawker Hall you'd think it would be cheap eats) , there is a great ambience and it is trendy so it would be a great date night or special occasion spot with the friends.

WOW what a great restaurant and menu is fantastic. Will definitely go eat here again. Friendly service good prices💯👌👍

This place is not value for money and taste of food is not right at all! They don't know how to balance the taste and poor quality food for the price of the food. A plate of Hainanese chicken rice $20 per plate it is taste so wrong and the chicken so dry and the rice is just not right texture and taste wrong too. The portion was so small for the price of $20 per plate. The the char Koay tew $18 could see two prawns cut into half burnt taste and the portion so small! Not authentic at all. A small bowl of Jasmine rice $5.50 so again a rip off! Not a place for true authentic SOuth East Asia cuisine and price at high end but it does not meet the quality! There is no notice about additional charges when paid with credit card! Failed establishment in the hospitality industry where food taste and quality do not meet the high end price tag!!!!!

Everything about this place is a winner. Loved the food. Loved the beer selection. Loved the whole look and feel of the place, staffed by very friendly and helpful staff. A winner. A must visit. We certainly will be repeat offenders.

I usually avoid anything food based with ‘Hawker’ or ‘Street Food’ in the name like the plague, but this place was really rather good. The food was well cooked and flavourful, there was a good selection of beer, and most importantly, especially for a place that big and that busy, the service was excellent. It isn’t cheap in the grand scheme of things, but it’s Chapel Street so what do you expect? All in all a surprisingly good meal. Recommended.

I love the venue.. food was amazing, but it was on the loud side.. lovely place to go for good food an casual dinning.. staff were attentive an professional at all times.,
Catherine Lazer
The most delicious food in a very funky restaurant with very well trained staff I would most definitely go again. I certainly recommend the steak and black bean beef cooked to perfection.

Randomly picked this place walking through Windsor on a Monday Night. Waitress was fabulous, friendly, efficient and explained the menu clearly. Love the tapas style with five small dishes that came out progressively allowed us to catch up while nibbling on some food. Cocktails were refreshing as well.

Popped in on the off chance of getting a table after Melbourne Cup. Amazing food and excellent service from the team behind the bar. Thanks for the beautiful food, 1st class wine and the tasty cocktails. As locals there’s nothing better than a simple night an easy stroll from our own dining room.

Walked in without a booking with a family of 6 for a special 21st birthday dinner. Fairly full yet seated straight away. Had the banquet which was 10/10, even for us fussy ones who didn't like spice or seafood. Could not fault the food, or the cocktails, every dish that came out was amazing. A memorable dining experience made great by Ray - a family member made an off handed comment about accidentally biting through a chilli, without a word Ray came back with a rice syrup and cucumber drink. Talk about service!!!!!
Susie Morando
Great food, service ordinary. 5 of us on a very small round table, kept telling us they would find another table but never bothered. Asked for the booth that had become empty but would not give it to us as they said we did not have enough people despite another booth having 2 people. I wouldn’t bother again.
Grant Campbell
Amazing food, great service and loved the atmosphere and vibe couldn't fault it totally recommend it

So many good dishes! But that fried chicken is to utterly die for! Service was attentive and friendly.

We walked in peak time Saturday night for a reunited family dinner of 6 we went for a drink and they texted us half hour or so later to say our table was ready, service was great and the food was equally as good, the Peking duck was delicimo as was everything else, the food comes out randomly but was really quick, big thumbs up from me.

Dined at HH last night with my mate from Brisbane and it was an excellent experience. Attentive waitress food and drinks flowed nicely and we had ringside seats to the kitchen. Great buzz and vibe and love this place 👍

Went home hungry, had to sit outside in cold. Service was best part, friendly and informative. Over priced drinks, a glass of wine $14. Like I said I went home hungry as food was sparse to share between 4. Won’t be going back

My family & I dined there on a Saturday night the atmosphere was buzzing friendly & inviting. My boys are both anaphylactic and when we told the waitress she was absolutely wonderful about it & so accommodating and explained what dishes to avoid. It’s actually refreshing to see that a restaurant of this caliber actually goes out of their way. Not only that but the food was amazing. So a big tick on service & food Definitely going back

I had a beautiful meal at the Hawker. We ordered the $66.00 a person banquette and it was delicious, and it just kept on coming out.The service was fantastic and I loved the atmosphere and the lay out. defiantly will be returning with more of my family. Thank you to the chef and the staff for a wonderful afternoon out.

Absolutely awesome food, friendly staff and lovely cocktails. Well worth a visit

Been wanting to try this place for awhile now and finally managed to during lockdown #2 😅 We had the economy noodles, beef rendang, papaya salad and rice pudding. The noodles were delicious, the sambal had the perfect amount of kick for me. The beef literally melted in my mouth, they absolutely nailed the texture of the meat. The papaya salad was fresh and crunchy, perfect accompaniment for the other dishes. The rice pudding was ok, some fresh element like fruit would've been nice with it.
Beautiful food, will have to come back again after the lockdown!

This place is pretty good, I might be a little jaded as I had just come back from a long trip in south-east Asia. Everyone else was happy and it's a great spot to start your evening!

Great place to catch up with friends. Similar to Chin Chin in Sydney . Loved the whole snapper special

Have been to Hawker Hall numerous times now and enjoyed some visits better than others, but this recent lunch visit has definitely been the highlight. Perhaps it may have just been coincidence, but we tend to notice that the food tastes significantly better on days/times when it’s not extremely busy, however the service has always been consistently good. Today we went for lunch and tried the holy duck deal - 4 duck dishes for $44 and $3 (yes $3) beers on tap and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality and quantity of food that came out. We definitely had some doubts about this, the first being that we’d still be hungry after 4 dishes and would need more and second, we thought maybe it would be too many duck dishes in one sitting. However, each of the dishes were delicious and unique in their own right, flavours beautifully balanced, and after a couple of cheap beers we were very very full. Honestly we weren’t in a rush to come back here after our last visit but after our lunch today, I definitely think we’ll be coming back for more very soon.

Great spot. So much more than what you're expecting. Great selection of beers, and if you enjoy some hot food, this is definitely a good place to come. It does seem to get busy, so I would suggest you book. I had my 40th here on the back table and really enjoyed the banquet. You get far more food than you can eat!
Good Food Good Mood
Almost two years on from my first visit today I returned to HH for a hens party lunch. I was seriously impressed with the amount of food that came our way and I was particularly fond of the delicious beef and black bean dish and the Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce and ginger which was extremely flavoursome.

The coconut beef rendang also impressed. They stuffed up one of the dietaries and were supposed to correct it by bringing out another dish but the menu was so extensive that it didn’t matter that it never arrived.

Dessert was also yummy with some lovely chai ice cream accompanying the fried apple pie and some delectable almost mousse like in texture milo ice cream in the milo and coconut ice cream sundae. After today’s experience I wouldn’t hesitate to have a large group here

Original review
What a time to be alive! Had a failed attempt visiting here when it first opened you know just the usual phrase you can expect to hear when attempting to enter a restaurant for dinner in Melbourne 'it's a two hour wait' but when I came back I was prepared arriving at precisely 6pm and Lo and behold there was space for the three of us immediately (like you would bloody hope so the place is huge).

Not so lucky for those who arrived two hours later as I was working my way though a jug of moscato sangria. I laughed from my table (suckers) but we've all been there. Honestly Melbourne had been waiting for this place for so long. There are saaa many options on the menu and it's one of those spots I literally went to order everything. We started with prawn and ginger dumplings (DELICIOUS black vinegar caramel), roti canai (obligatory) and satay chicken skewers. We moved on to baked salmon curry and stir fried BBQ chicken but there are also feed me and banquet options available if you can't quite decide. Most dishes are cheap but if you are ordering right your bill won't be. Interior wise there are brightly coloured neon signs to create that hawker style atmosphere (ironic given there has clearly been no expense spared on the fitout). The Lucas Group has outdone themselves

Always good to excellent in quality, taste, authenticity, service! Never a complaint from me : )

Hawker hall is a modern Asian fusion with fun vibes. It's owned by the same people who own Chin Chin and Kisume, so you can expect it to be somewhat the same style and quality. We went for the $66pp banquet set, there was plenty of food, enough for all of us. The food was pretty in good in general. The rolled noodle stir fried is definitely the best dish we had there. Nothing else really stand out though.

I’ve been twice now, and definitely will not gonna back.

It is great if you don’t mind paying simply for somewhere that people think is trendy. If you like yelling at your dining companions this place is perfect for you.

The food is very overpriced for what can be described as ordinary quality Asian food. The staff don’t really add anything to the dining experience, and are really just there to take an order and dump your food on the table.
Mills
I hadn’t been to hawker hall for a while and my last experience felt the food was overpriced for what it was. To my surprise this time it seemed reasonable.
The chicken based dishes were decent however the chicken was cut too thick and it tasted dry.
The puffs were nice along with the calamari and popcorn chicken.
The service was very friendly though our drinks took quite a while to come out .
Russell J White
Disappointing and overpriced for what it was.

Came here for the first time and definitely lived up to the hype!

We started off with the Kottu Rotti for entree and was not disappointed, definitely my favourite dish of the night. It was full of flavour and the portion size was generous, could’ve been a main dish in my opinion!

Then we had butter chicken and chicken ribs. The butter chicken unfortunately was a let down, I’ve definitely had better and should’ve chosen a different dish. However the chicken ribs were a highlight and I loved the flavour and appreciated the fact it was cooked well.

Overall a wonderful experience and the staff were also very kind which a plus, we will be back for sure!!

We went on a week night with two colleagues because of the recommendation of our customer. The restaurant was busy and they found a place for us on the corner of the bar, so that we sat around the edge and could talk with each other. The restaurant was noisy but compared to other restaurants I know, not too bad. Maybe not the atmosphere for a romantic dinner but otherwise fine.

We considered the 'feed me banquet' but it isn't really described on the menu what it is. So I asked the nice bar staff. She explained: Usually a 1 starter per person, mains until we say STOP and 1 or 2 desserts; we are happy to nominate the dishes we want or don't want.
Sounded like a deal, so we went with it.
And well the description was correct: We got three starters, heaps of mains and the desserts. The food came regularly within a reasonable time. We never had to wait for the next dish. All dishes were nice though the penang curry was disappointing for me because very 'Australianised'. Outstanding were the sichuan beef cauliflower dish - the cauliflower and the sichuan pepper were the star of the dish - and the roti which was buttery without being greasy and very flaky.
I'm not a dessert person, so I cannot comment on them.
Would I come again? Certainly yes: the atmosphere, the staff and the food was very nice. Much better than the one I experienced in the parent restaurant.

We've been here numerous times and have yet to be disappointed! From a large group of 26 to an intimate meal for 2, Hawker Hall delivers on all accounts. We've done it all here - individual meals, take away, the feed me menu. Nothing has disappointed us yet. I truly recommend the feed me menu for your first time so that you can really get a feel for the wonderful flavours the team here whip up. Enjoy!

Overall great experience dining here. Staff were great, however due to the busy nature it is difficult to get someone’s attention. Nonetheless, the food was great!!!

Took my partner here for her birthday had heard good things so thought we would try it out.. we got the popcorn chicken and some pork and ginger dumplings they were alright. We also ordered the special fried rice and the steak and broccoli fried rice wasn’t too bad but the steak basically came out still breathing was barely cooked at all. They didn’t ask us in the first place how we wanted which they should of so we complained and then waited another 20 minutes for the steak to come back cooked which is was still fairly undercooked. They didn’t charge us for the steak which was good but as they say first impressions last..

Great decor and good vibes. Unfortunately, my Malaysian heritage feels that the food was way off the mark

Wow a lot of nerve to call your restaurant Hawker Hall and charge $20 for a basic rice dish. Goes against everything a real Hawker Hall stands for.

Really cool place. Reminds me of Chin Chin except the portions are a decent size.
I liked the vibe. The music is not loud which is good when you want to have conversations with friends.
I really enjoyed it!
THE HUNGRY CAT
Cool place! Great vibe, friendly staff and tasty food! Ordered the rendang hoping it would be similar to that at sister restaurant Chin Chin, while it was good I do prefer the Chin Chin version! In any case would definitely recommend when in the area and looking for some tasty Asian inspired plates! MEOW!
WhenFoodMeetsFiona
Ordered:
- popcorn chicken
- prawn and ginger dumpling
- wagyu stir fry
- barramundi
- yellow curry with beef, roti bread and cashew beans
- coconut sobert
- Roti apple pie

Ambience is lit af for those of you who like to have vibes of going out out but not actually doing it! Ordered the “feed me” banquet; my favourite dishes from the night would have to be the dumplings, curry and roti apple pie. Would definitely come back!

Located on the Windsor end of Chapel Street discover Hawker Hall, a lively South East Asian restaurant and beer hall that takes inspiration from the vibrant street food cultures of Malaysia, Singapore and other South East Asian countries. T

Hawker Hall is part of the ever-growing Lucas Group family, and it’s been on my radar for the last couple of years, along with the rest of Melbourne. Based on the name alone, it’s not hard to see where Chris Lucas drew inspiration from when it came to Hawker Hall, the bustling hawker centres that are sprawled across Malaysia and Singapore of course. Being partial to Singaporean food myself, I had high expectations for Hawker Hall’s offerings.
Grace Giuliano Mottram
Over priced food, tiny portions and average all round. Poor value for money. Trading on hype.
Nicole Wijesinghe
Decided to try the restaurant for the first time on Father’s Day. While the food was tasty, it was overpriced for the portion size (especially with the meat). Maybe a “Feed Me” option is better here, but I would say Chin Chin is better than Hawker Hall in terms of all considerations (taste of food, portion sizes and price).
FoodieInMel
Really like this place, nice vibe, slightly casual version of chin chin, very lovely fusion food, great selection of tap beers, the dishes were great for sharing, fantastic restaurant to catch up with friends.

DAYLIGHT ROBBERY. Decide to visit this spot for lunch due to highly rated reviews , however why is no one talking about how OVERPRICED it is. Ordered 3 dishes and thought it would be enough ( each dish was around $14 each ). However once they arrived we were in shock about how small the portion was.... like seriously a “ cucumber salad “ which is half a cucumber for $14? PATHETIC. The other dishes were delicious however such small portions as well! Will mostly likely not be returning unless i want to pay $60 + dollars and still be hungry! Not impressed.

Visited the place with a couple of friends for a meetup. There's a big wait on the place, but we had made reservations so it was alright.

We looked up the menu, and decided to explore the "feed me" option instead. We were served with wanton dumplings which were very delicious followed by ginger and prawn Dumplings which were alright but not as good as the other type. It was then time for the dish of the winter, the wagyu beef with cauliflower. That sauce, makes my mouth wet by just the thought of it 😍😍😍
The sauce had a mixture of red wine, soy sauce base which was so good that us 3 had 5 plates of it on our table.

The crispy Pork, broccoli and a seafood dish were explored in our adventure. Just that beef dish set the bar up too high. We ended this with a chai Ice cream with apple pie and a Milo ice cream. The ice creams weren't that sweet which was nice, but not the greatest in terms of flavour which was a bummer.

Really good place, really pricey so I'd reocommend going in hungry with a bunch of guys and exploring the 'feed me' option.
Ordered 4 dishes. flavours were ok. Service can be improved. The drinks tooK ages to come.

On a cold day, I wanted to eat something Asian but couldn't make up my mind. Hawker Hall was my best option. It had the best of Asia and some of the dishes were soooooooo good!
- Young Coconut and Watermelon drink - Faaabbbbb
- BBQ corn - ahhhh! Love it!
- Veg dumplings - A big miss.
- Chicken Tikka with Pilaf - Heavennnnn!!!

Dion Braganza
The menu is a multiple choice test, and the feed me option is the correct answer. I have nothing else to add but apparently I am not allowed to be succinct.
Simply WonderFood
My favourite place in Windsor! Hawker Hall is one of a kind in the area with its delicious fusion of Singapore and Malaysian cuisines. Everything on the menu is amazing and spicy and full of flavour. To start I absolutely love the prawn and ginger dumplings, the roti with any of the dipping sauces. The Malay Beef Rendang is so good and hearty, the chicken tikka rice is light and tangy yet full of flavour and the ckt noodles are also delicious! Last time I went I tried the chinese doughnuts and they were amazing! Would recommend if you're not too full from all the other amazing food. Perfect for groups!
Eliza
Excellent location in the vibrant Windsor end of Chapel street with a great energy when we walked into the restaurant. Service was slow however, a bit hit and miss with each table I suspect. Guests who were seated after us were served their food ten minutes before us. Once our food finally arrived we received a complementary bean dish for our wait, which was nothing special. This however meant that we had to speed through our food as we had a movie booked that night at the Jam Factory. The food was good but not quite as moreish as its competitor Mr.Miyagi across the road. I left feeling satisfied, but with so many other options on Chapel Street I wouldn't go back.
Maureen
Always the best experience every time I come here.
I’ve been here many times and it’s just a no fail good quality food and great service.
A must in Chapel Street!
Hrvatica
Yummy!!!! Never disappointed! They are so quick! It amazes me every time! I always come at the wrong time as it's so full! But I'll definitely wait if it's not too long!
Caroline
Asian casual street food in an upmarket venue. Unfortunately, the food is quite average for me. Nothing stands out or wow us in any way. Food service is terribly slow as well and staffs are not so attentive either.
Tushar Pasrija
Really really good food! Had been on my list since a while and glad that finally did. The food quality was super amazing and really loved the vibe here. 5/5 for me.

Great experience at HH! great food, great drinks, will definitely come back! Shoutout to Oscar behind the bar who looked after us all night! Recommended all our GREAT meals AND drinks... 10/10 for him!
Nadia R
Staff was polite however the food was below average and so was the presentation. Ended up spending $135 on food that was worth $20 from a mall food court.
Taste'n'rate
Great place for catchups or a cute date. Atmosphere was dark but inviting.
Food was great, service was lovely.
The only criticism I have is that the pork belly was $25 and all we received was 6 small pieces, was not worth the price.
Everything else, delicious.
EatsOfMelbourneAus
Thanks Hawker hall for the amazing service, ambience and meals 🙊. Still can’t get over our food, it was to die for 😍👌🏻 Looking forward to being back here soon.

On a busy Saturday night on chapel street most restaurants were 1.5 hour to 2 hour wait but we managed to get into hawker hall in about 45 mins which was a great start to the experience! We ordered prawn dumplings, spring rolls, beef rendang curry and char kway Teow noodles. Everything tasted amazing, service was friendly and attentive and cocktails were to die for. Love this place and would be my number 1 pick for a busy night on Chapel street as it’s larger seating capacity means you can get in quicker!
SuziEats
The venue is large lofty and stylish. This place is always bustling. The food is a good take on Malaysian & Singapore cuisine. there is also a twist in their food that you won’t see in Malaysian restaurants elsewhere.
Chef ASD
Very polite and friendly staffs... This restaurant same as chin chin company. But compare to chin chin this restaurant better than them.

The food has multicuisine touch, use different country spices. All dishes has a separate own identity

The dish we don't like their chicken tikka, because it's not spiced very well. Need a big improvement on this dish.

Over all nice restaurant to try....
Hawker Hall is celebrating Chinese New Year weekend yum cha sessions. From 11am to 4pm every Saturday and Sunday in February, diners can feast six courses for $38 per person.

Choose six dishes from the many dim sum items on offer including barbecue pork buns, xo fried rice, fried squid, mapo tofu and (our favourite) chicken and garlic chive pearly dumplings.

Came here due to all the buzz I would notice whilst on chapel. It did let me down purely because it was extremely busy and it seems like staff were also very flustered hence service was very slow. The food as well wasn’t a stand out to me. I had the Bbq chicken and the soft shell crab, it wasn’t a knock out. I probably wouldn’t come in again but would most likely get Uber eats from here next if I wanted to try again.
Savina
This place never disappoints! Have been here twice now and was very impressed both times. Today, we had the nyonya chicken popcorn and the soft shell crab stir fry (pictured) as well as the char kway teow and the pork and chestnut dumplings. Stand outs today were the CKT and the dumplings - evidenced by the fact that we ate them too quickly for pictures to be taken! We preferred the Malaysian hawker fried chicken, which we had last time, to the popcorn chicken. The CKT and fried chicken are some of the best in the city. The extensive menu means there’s lots to come back for. And we will!

This restaurant is always buzzing, great music, outstanding food, fantastic drinks menu and attentive staff. I’ve never had a disappointing experience in all the times I come here. Sometimes there is a bit of a wait for a table (around 30 mins) but they have a good text system and you can go have a drink in the area whilst you wait. I always try to get a seat at the bar as I love watching the kitchen do their magic. The roti is my favorite dish, perfect for scooping up a delicious curry and rice. All the food feels light, fresh and clean and I walk out feeling happily full.
Ray
Really nice vibe from this place, staff were friendly and food came out fast. The rendang was really good, full of flavour and came out quickly. The roast pork was pretty average, was cooked well but without the sauce wasn’t very tasty. Would be keen to try some other things next time.
Vanessa
It was the first time my friends and I came here to have dinner. We weren’t left disappointed. The Malaysian-Singapore dishes were simply delicious! There’s actually a lot to choose from and to share. I never go for the “banquet” deals (in this case, $66 pp) because I find that it actually works out cheaper if you just order yourselves - provided you’re confident in knowing what to order...then you’ll be a happy camper (full and satisfied).
I can’t imagine you going wrong with any of the food here. My favourites were the small dishes to share; satay sticks, dumplings, wonton... I also found the choi sum (greens) tasty and healthy. The char kway tao was a little too sweet for my liking. But other than that, the food here is scrumptious!
Most of our orders came out very quickly with the exception of the char kway teow which took about 30 minutes to come out.
Wonderful staff and service. The ambiance is nice. The music is too loud though which makes it really hard to hear each other talk. (Live DJ playing inside)

This was our second time eating at hawker hall. My first experience didn’t leave me with an amazing memory so hadn’t thought to come here in over two year. How disappointed I was that I never gave this place a second chance. As a lover of chin chin and kong I had originally had high hope for this place but originally I felt the hawker dishes were just flat of what I enjoyed of hawker dishes and double the price.

After this visit and reading some of the reviews definitely your experience will be changed by what u order. First time I went classic hawker food like dumpling, nasi goreng and char khay teow. I was only dining with one other person and they were nice but nothing spectacular.

This time round I ate with six other people and got to taste way more of the menu and we order more non classic food. And boy was the experience so much better. This time we had the som tam, wok tossed bbq chicken bit, soft shell crab with sambal, beef wagyu with fried cauliflower, sat and pepper squid, yellow curry noodles and butter chicken curry puff. All of these dishes were outstanding except for the curry puff and definitely will have me coming back for more.

In Short: From the folks that brought you Chin Chin, Hawker Hall introduces diners to Chin Chin’s southern neighbour in Malaysian food. A huge space, that emulates the hawker centres found in Singapore and Malaysia, and a menu that is extensive. Each of the dishes we tried were supremely delicious, but if asked to pick one, it would have to be the Char Kway Teow. Lots of beers on hand to wash the noodles and rice too!
Isabel Picton
The fried chicken was definitely the dish of the night. Comes as a sharing plate with lettuce and sauce. Crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. Great atmosphere, the venue is huge and not much of a wait time. Food comes out quickly, everything was absolutely tasty and up to standards, maybe the portion wasn’t that big, but overall a great experience! Staff was friendly and engaging with customers! I will definitely be back for more.

From the owners of Chin Chin, this place offers inspiration for the tastebuds. We arrived just after 6:30 to avoid queuing as it gets busy here. Choosing seats by the bar, the menu had so many appealing dishes, but we soon made our choices and gave our orders to one of the bar attendants.

The BBQ pork ribs arrived impressively fast. Soon we were tucking into well marinated sweet ribs with a spicy punch, paired with a bean shoots, mint and Lychee salad and rice. The flavour explosion continued with the Peking Duck. The mouth-watering, succulent pieces came with thin crepes, cucumbers, spring onions, hoisin sauce and green chilli. Generous portion sizes of both dishes meant there was no room left for dessert. The coconut sorbet shake with Milo and cinnamon was like drinking liquid Bounty, almost a meal in itself.

Pumping beats from the DJ filled the cavernous space with energetic vibes matched by the kitchen. Aromatic scents wafted through the air constantly to whet our appetite. Ample seating capacity and highly efficient staff completed the experience. When the bar attendant realised the BBQ ribs came with rice, he volunteered to cancel our order of extra rice. Everything was on point, making this a fantastic experience in every sense.
Housed in an historic turn-of-the-century horse stable, Hawker Hall sets out to replicate the bustling night time Hawker scene of South East Asia. To this end the venue sets the tone nicely and it's a busy, vibrant spot that's open late. Sitting outside is always good for people watching and slightly less boisterous as sitting inside and trying to talk over the Hip hop soundtrack.

I’m generally not one to write a review on a trip but this place was great. The seared tuna was simply sublime. Seated in a group of six on a Friday evening when the place was bustling and food was served quickly

Staff were lovely.. We went there for lunch and ate the banquet for two, we got so much food we had to take leftovers home. Which we were not complaining about. We also had a couple of delicious cocktails. We would highly recommend. :)

Nasi Goreng fried rice is so delicious. Highly highly recommend :)

It was EPIC!

Epic in flavour.

Can’t wait to try out what else they have on offer but I’m quite taken ;)

The fried chicken was definitely the dish of the night. Comes as a sharing plate with lettuce and sauce. Crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. Great atmosphere, the venue is huge and not much of a wait time.

My second time coming here and doing the banquet ($66 per person). We have had to do the banquet as I have always gone with groups of 6+ and we like to book. Both times have been enjoyable.

This place is honestly just delicious. I have a Malaysian Indian background, so I can say that this is not authentic Malaysian Chinese or Malaysian Indian food but it’s definitely good.

I have attached photos of almost all the dishes I tried so I won’t go into too much detail.

The positives: the popcorn chicken is the best. The dumplings are so clean! The fried chicken and tofu fries were delicious. The desserts were also great! We had the apple pie (the chai ice cream was a little overpowering), milo dinosaur (just ice cream really) and the Chinese doughnut (this was definitely my favourite).

The negatives: I found the butter chicken curry puffs to be too oily and didn’t taste like butter chicken at all. The curries were too overpowering and the beef was slightly over cooked. The roti canai isn’t homemade either (or didn’t taste like it).

Definitely worth a try!!

Went for an early dinner on Saturday night! Food come out quickly, everything was absolutely tasty and up to standards, maybe the portion weren’t that big, but overall a great experience! Staff was friendly and engaging with customers! I will definitely be back for more

Food was great, especially the curries. Service was a bit slow but it was very busy. We had the Peking duck dish as well but I didn't think it was that great. The dumplings were very good. I'd definitely come back here again and try their other dishes.

Came here last night with a girl im seeing, ive been to chin chins and kong quite a few times and was expecting big things. To be honest i cant see what all the hype is about, the seared tuna was bland and just full of chilli no other real flavors, the salt and green pepper squid was well...salt and pepper squid, the shredded chicken coconut salad was nice but wasn't anything spectacular. The dishes seem to be missing those big flavor hits and surprises. Service is great and the atmosphere is good too. Probably wont come back unless they do a new menu.

It was a 45min wait for a table and it seems people were willing to wait. We opted for a table outside. Great service here. Had a dedicated waiter here which customised the 'feed me' to all our dietary requirements. Some great food and flavours came out of the kitchen. Well worth the money 👌

Very poor experience, had high expectations but food is no where near the standard of Chin Chin. Waiter was lovely, tables were small, pork belly was terrible, worst pork belly I’ve ever had full of fat and no flavour.

We were expecting good things from this place being linked to chin chin. We were greeted by a very polite and nice waiter, that’s were the good things stopped. The popcorn chicken was flavourless, we had the squid which was ok. Then we had the papaya salad which left a ridiculous taste of garlic in the mouth. We finished off with the pork belly, which was the most disappointing part of the night. The pork belly was 5% pork, 94% fat and 1% crackle, it was like it needed to be cooked for another half an hour. not sure if this was just a bad experience and it’s normally better, but I’ll stick with chin chin.

We had hainanese bbq chicken rice. It was quite different to the authentic hainanese chicken rice. We were expecting more of the hawker malaysian or singaporean style. Came with my children and we were not quite sure if the atmosphere was catered for young ages. We also ordered special fried rice. It was ok. It can be quite pricey for a hawker style.

Arrived here on a Thursday night hungry af, but like all other restaurants on Chapel street there was a waiting time. So we waited for roughly 30mins before promptly being seated.

Customer service? Hands down off its t*ts. The staff were nice and offered some good recommendations. We started off with ordering the Shiitake Mushroom Dumplings but all we got were dumplings, cause they must have left the mushrooms in the steamer. H liked the dumplings and the aroma of the shiitakes. M who isn’t a fan of mushrooms in general, thought it was pretty alright.

Next we were served the Nasa Goreng; pretty good but have had better. M asked why the fu*k was there an egg on it? (He thinks eggs overpower the taste), but H liked it.

Favourite dish was probably the Curry Egg Noodles with Beef Briskets. M felt like it should have been spicier or have had the option to increase spice level. M wanted his a*s to burn, and it did the next day, but still reckons he could take on more. H thought the beef briskets were cooked well and paired perfectly with the crispy noodles.

We had high expectations for the Roast Pork belly but the results were quite underwhelming. Although the skin was crispy, the meat was a bit rough. They tried to give us more (mixed up our order) but we were like nah we good.

As mentioned, they mixed up our last order which was the half Peking Style Roast Duck which made us wait for up to 30 mins. The problem was that our two hour parking was nearly up and we were in a rush. We told the waiter and surprisingly, they offered to take the order off our bill but also packaged it up for us to take home! We felt like fu*king winners.
TIP: to get free food tell the waiters your parking time is almost over LMAO

Overall, the experience was good but we had expected more from the food. The service was impeccable and the place is worth a try.

Deliiiiicious duck curry, super yum squid and lovely staff. A great experience! One dish came out cold, but understandable given how busy they were!

The curry for the roti is good, especially the peanut sauce. Bbq chicken was flavourful but a little on the salty side. Char kuew tiaw is spot on with the Chinese sausage and the peppery sensation, reminds me of Penang.

I would rate this to anyone wanting to enjoy Amazing food Filled with so many flavours with a great ambience and great service.
We ordered the $66 banquet and had more then enough to fill our stomachs.
There was not a thing to complain about and would also like to mention our great waitress Lena. She was so wonderful and very attentive.
Feast Meets West
Loved the food at Hawker Hall. There’s always a bit of a wait so book if you can and still expect a short wait. Great service and a menu that’ll make it hard to choose. Full of flavour duck, roast pork, Malay coconut beef rendang and rice. Just go there. Try for yourself. Order as much as you can.

Hawker Hall was certainly a unique experience, bringing in elements of Asian street vendors in both its design and food. My partner and I ordered the Chicken Tikka, Beef Rendang and Roti Canai with sauce. The Roti Canai was a good start to the night - soaking up the flavours of the sauce, it was simple and done right. Next up, the Chicken Tikka- something that we were curious to try, to see how it would compare to our favourite chicken tikka Masala that we usually order at other restaurants. The tenderness of the chicken was spot on, however the rest of the dish was rather average. We’ll probably stick to Chicken tikka Masala next time.
The Beef Rendang didn’t quite win us over either with its prominent anchovy taste. The place was absolutely bustling which suggested that we may have ordered the wrong things or perhaps should have perused Hawker Hall’s extensive drinks menu. Either way, come try Hawker Hall if brave new twists to some Asian classics is what you’re after.

I have only love for this place! I have come here multiple times and every time I have had exceptional service and exceptional food. There is something for everyone on the menu, and an excellent alcohol range. If you’re thinking about dining over a weekend get in early as wait times can become over half an hour! It also gets quite loud but nonetheless a great place to catch up with friends!

We visited Hawker Hall last weekend for lunch and discovered another love dish. Our fail safe dishes to order are usually the CKT - Char Kway Teow, the Nasi Goreng and the Malaysian Hawker Fried Chicken. But this time, we noticed a dish on the menu we hadn’t tried before, the Yellow Curry Egg Noodle with Beef Brisket, Peanuts and Sate. This dish was out of this world, so much flavour was packed into the sauce and crunchy noodles which went so well with the melt in your mouth beef brisket. We love Hawker Hall and can’t wait to return for more. 4/5 from munchwithlisa

Hawker hall provided great service, comfortable atmosphere and fantastic food. I couldn’t give them anything less than 5 stars. Great for any occasion, we did the feed me deal and it was fantastic value for money. There cocktails are amazing as well. I will definitely be going back for more.

Great atmosphere and great food. We began with drinks. I had the peach fuzz which was delicious but not particularly strong. We shared the beef rendang, duck curry and roti canai. All dishes were authentic and tasty and the two dishes were a good size for two people to share.
Two Sheds
4.5.

Twosheds has been anticipating a visit to Hawker Hall, as it came highly recommended by close friends. Expectations were high as we had dined at sister restaurant, Chin Chin, on a number of previous occasions. The high expectations were warranted. The vibe here is fantastic. Seriously expensive industrial chic fitout and great low key, old school house and pop music pumps out to a 25-32 something crowd. Make no mistake, this placed is packed every night for dinner (if you want no queue, come for lunch). The food arrives quickly. And service is fast, attentive, friendly and efficient.

We dined on dumplings to start, which are fusion Asian, as is the case across menu. All the Malaysian, Chinese and pan Asian classics are brought to the fore here. The pork and chive wonton with chilli and black bean were a serious highlight, with the astringent black bean setting off the delicate fat in the pork meat. Spring rolls are delicately filled and fried with the best ingredients. The throughput of the kitchen, and quality emanating from it, is astounding given the size of the place. Small details are apparent though such as green chilli in the lovely soy. The char Kway Teow is faithful to its Malaysian roots, but has a special freshness through use of more sprouts which was quite enticing.

As the food arrived, the music from the DJ spinning discs got better and better (more 80s). Next to arrive were the Malaysian-style chicken skewers. The peanut sauce is more peanut than sauce here: super stuff. I’ll refrain from later dishes but suffice to say, they were as good as the earlier ones.

The Twosheds gang ordered from the “wine off the tap” menu here for drinks, which is great value. We drank a Riesling/Grigio blend and a Pinot, which arrived in carafes. The wines on the drinks list proper are a bit pricey. You must give this place a try.

4.5

Lively buzzy atmosphere with subtle little touches to remind one of Southeast Asia hawker centres like the plastic plates and water cups. Solid food but quite overpriced considering it's similar quality to cheap no frills Singaporean/Malay food at authentic local restaurants in Doncaster or Glen Waverley. Dinner for 6 was $330 including dessert and a couple drinks each

Hawker Hall never disappoints and tonight was no exception. Great cocktails, excellent service. If you’re hungry definitely recommend the $66 banquet . They basically feed you till you say I’m full . So many good dishes and the standout is the fried chicken and dumplings. If you haven’t been yet definitely go

My Key 3 Pointers
• If you don’t like a busy restaurant then opt for a lunch midweek,
• Malaysian, Singapore and other influences. Something will Tick your box,
• Can’t reserve a seat but 160 seating arrangement won’t have you waiting too long,

Hawker hall never disappoints and I love eating here and coming with friends. On this occasion I was solo and I did not mind a Monday lunch in a slightly emptier venue, admiring the decor.

I love the open Kitchen. They have so many different seating options, grab a stool at the bar or a roundtable, booth or a cushioned bench for a romantic dinner for two. Casual or fancy you don’t feel out of place. The food is delicious and I can never go past the beef Thai salad, love the chilly and cashew topping. I always opt for dumplings but this time I found the dumpling wrappers a little thick.

Another successful enjoyable meal.

This place has nice vibe to it. Peppy, noisy, and very happening!!

But they also served some very good food. We ordered Roti Canai, Steamed Bun and Portuguese Spicy Chicken out of which Portuguese Spicy Chicken was Yummy and almost burnt our tongue. Yes! attendant had warned us about it but one more excuse to have our favorite ice-cream at Pidapippo. Roti Canai and Steamed Bun were decent enough. We loved our beers, and the attendants are fun to talk to.

Worth the money and time spent.

Magnificent. One of the best meals I've had for a while.

It's big, it's characterful, it's very friendly, it's loud. Even on a cold Sunday evening, it was packed But we were lucky and nabbed what looked like the last table (for 3) - although it was noticeable that there was quite a quick turnaround.

Food was amazing - the pork sparerib soft as butter, the green beans in sweet soy and coconut cashew devine, the various dumplings gorgeous and the roti perfect as accompaniment. Not cheap at $200 for 3 people as we didn't have a huge amount of food, but that included 2 bottles of red - we stayed the course rather than in and out like many around us!

Hint - food does come quickly after ordering - and all together. Suggest you order drinks first and then order food in stages.

This sibling to Chin Chin was just as good as it’s sister and was surprising to see we could get a table straight upon arrival.
We had the Barramundi which was soft and delectable, full of flavor - the Choy Sum which was zingy and tasty, the prawn dumpling which was just as good as any specialty dumpling house, and lastly the Malaysian chicken salad which was close to the best dish.
The sangria had a nice twist with grapefruit in it and was quite potent.
Service was attentive and friendly and very on to things. Would have loved to have been asked for more drinks but overall we had such a lovely time and would definitely return back - maybe not on a weekend though!

When we arrived, we were left for few minutes with no acknowledgment. There was a hostess guy standing right near us but he was chatting with other guy and didn’t even notice that we were there. By the look of it, I didn’t think they weren’t talking about anything work related. The other waitress noticed and said something to the hostess guy but he still couldn’t hear it, so she needed to put down the dishes she was carrying and helped us. I used to work in hospo, and this kind of customer service disappoints me a lot (hence 4stars). Other waitress who was serving our table was so helpful though and her recommendations helped our indecisive soul to make up what dishes to order. Food was really good but I found pork belly (recommended by her) a bit too greasy. Pickled cucumber helped to finish the dish but I wouldn’t be ordering it next time. We also didn’t order desserts as they didn’t sound amusing. However, everything she recommended apart from the pork was good and we were quite satisfied with our orders.

Amazing food, atmosphere & service! The cocktails were delicious! We were sat down right away & the waiter was super friendly & attentive. Can’t wait to go back!!

After visiting Chin Chin a few times, we thought we should visit its sister restaurant! What a great decision that was - we are actually rating Hawker Hall BETTER than Chin Chin (I know, huge call but we loved it!).

What we ordered: Nyonya style fried Popcorn Chicken, Pork and Water Chestnut Dumplings, Roast Pork Belly w/ lettuce cups and Malaysian Hawker Fried Chicken w/ lettuce cups.

Classic Hawker style dining that hit the spot on many levels. The Popcorn Chicken was everything you’d want it to be while the dumplings were one of the best we have had in respect to quality.
As for the mains, the Pork Belly was crispy and worked well with the yellow sauce while the Fried Chicken was crunchy and flavorsome especially with the accompanying sauces. We also ordered Nasi Goreng because we are huge fans of this in general and we weren’t let down - it was REALLY nice!

Already planning our next trip back! Staff were great as well😃

Hawker Hall offered a pretty wide range of Asian fusion dishes and drinks, great for casual group lunches and dinners. We tried the lychee salad, nasi goreng, and chicken ribs, which we found quite delicious. The restaurant had more of a bar vibe to it (they did have a bar inside the restaurant). It was unfortunately very loud and squishy inside despite the rather spacious venue.

I used to come here once in a while as I used to enjoy their pork buns but as of recently they've changed the taste and frankly it was for the worst. I don't know if they changed the recipe to save money or they have changed the chefs but what I do know is that its not good. Hawker Hall, you have let me down...
Michael Daaboul
Hawker Hall is great value for money!

With the DJ pumping tunes, roomy restaurant and attentive, knowledgeable and lovely staff, all that is left to do is to enjoy the food. What a treat it is.

I highly recommend the $66 banquet if you’re hungry, if you struggle to eat large amounts of food, then this is not for you. It’s essentially all you can eat!

The prawn and ginger dumpling with soy and black vinegar caramel and the roti with peanut curry sauce and garlic chana dal are delicious and tender. The nyonya style fried popcorn chicken is one of those highlight dishes that rolls your eyes backwards with excessive head nodding. The roast pork belly with lettuce cups, jalapeños, cucumber and yellow plum sauce impresses, with the pork belly being soft as butter but nailing the crackle. This dish is fun to put together and eat.

The next part is one dish that elevates Hawker to a straight 5-star restaurant. The stir fry wagyu beef and cauliflower with Sichuan pepper, chillies and cashews was amazing! It is rare to find a dish that is this tasty that you start to question how it is done, eyeing off every detail and jumping in excitement. If there is one dish you have at Hawker Hall, this is the one. This dish was accompanied with cucumber, mint and shallot salad with cumin and coconut yoghurt dressing and choi sum with ginger and oyster sauce. Perfect side dishes that take this experience to a new level.

Lastly, the yellow curry egg noodle, beef brisket, peanuts and sate was next. At this point, our stomachs were waving the white flag reluctantly. This dish was sweet, tender and a perfect end to the savory part of the banquet.

Dessert ended with rice pudding, puff rice crumble with spiced pineapple. This was tasty; however, my heart was set on the Milo dinosaur sundae with Milo biscuit. Unfortunately, this was not the case and will be looking forward to treating myself to the sundae on the next visit.

The non-alcoholic drinks are refreshing, so go ahead and choose between the frozen young coconut crush or the lychee soda if you don’t feel like alcohol.

I initially had an issue with my cup that had water which was dirty, but not much else to criticise.

Hawker Hall offer a generous banquet that is hard to beat. The quality of the food vs cost ratio is admirable.
