Review Buon Ricordo - Woollahra

Andrew Thornton
Certainly no complaints from my side. Buon Ricordo is definitely one of Sydney’s best Italian joints. Absolutely loved the Pork Sausages, Truffle Pasta and School Prawns being my absolute favourite. If you haven’t given this place a go, you should. You won’t be disappointed.

Buon Ricordo Ristorante is a Sydney institution that I haven't had the opportunity to dine at until today and I have to say it was one of the best Italian meals I have had in Sydney. The FETTUCINE AL TARTUFOVO (Cream and parmesan, topped with a fried truffle egg, tossed at the table), FAGOTTINI (Pork and veal sausages bound with parmesan, truffle egg and pork trotter; finished with lemon infused extra virgin olive oil) and BRACIOLETTE REGINALDO (Crumbed veal rolled with spinach, nutmeg and parmesan. Grilled and drizzled with extra virgin olive oil and lemon) were particular stand outs and I can see why they are signature dishes at this restaurant.

I am not a religious man but if God exists he's working in the kitchen of Buon Ricordo & I imagine he had a hand in making the Fettuccine Al Tartufovo, what flavours, textures & what genius, that in itself was a 'Bucket List' dish!! We also indulged in the Gnocchi Sorentina (sensational), Porchetta alla Romana (mouth watering with the most amazing crackling) & Agnello (a huge portion of the most perfectly rose-cooked lamb). Cibo fantastico!!! The front of house staff were also perfect to a Tee, professional but upbeat & funny, well done guys!

Amazing traditional Italian restaurant, with food done right! The service is impeccable, amazing wine list from both Italy and Australia. Be warned, the menu is on the pricier end of town but Buon Ricordo is not a place you'd come to skim, as dishes such as their famous truffled egg pasta is what you would expect.

Great restaurant which feels a bit like stepping back in time Sydney style. Attentive service and magnificent desserts. Possibly the best restaurant I’ve been to in Sydney to date.

Absolutely lovely! The menu is so interesting! You want to try one of everything! The flavours delightful! Some unusual things on the menu, like glacier 51 toothfish, I'd never seen or heard of that before. The silky texture, the marriage of the accompanying flavours, delightful! The 1000 layers, Apple dessert…! Just lovely! The textures & flavours, just lovely! The service, good. Friendly, attentive, but in more way too much, not too overbearing. The whole experience was great! It is expensive, but this is a top end restaurant & it was worth it.

The truffle egg pasta was devine! The entrees were also delicious. The mains were a bit heavy for me. Another standout feature of this restaurant was the excellent service. Would definitely recommend!

Had heard great things but our meal was anything but. There is definitely much better Italian around the place I am sad to say.

I hadn’t been to Buon Ricordo for a number of years and I was so glad we returned last Saturday for lunch. I love the old school service, the tapestry chairs and the paccheri with cod (pictured) that I ordered was absolutely divine and cooked to perfection! #buonricordo

Amazing food, every single dish was perfect. Definitely recommend the egg truffle fettuccine and gnocchi. One of my favourite restaurants, perfect place for date night

Amuse-bouche of tomato and basil macerated in olive oil, on toast<br/>(...fresh and subtle, diced sweet tomatoes and basil, macerated in olive oil until the olive oil has picked up an orange hue, served on a crunchy bite of toast...)<br/><br/>Grilled baby calamari with rocket leaves, lemon, chilli and herb dressing<br/>(...packed with chargrilled flavour, set against the bite of the rocket leaves, with a bread-dippingly good dressing of lemon, chilli and herbs. Very generous serving...)<br/><br/>Fettucine in creamy Parmesan cheese sauce with truffled egg<br/>(...the waiter shaved and shaved the Parmesan cheese onto the plate and then SUDDENLY, I was drawn into the dish by the overwhelmingly rich aroma of the truffles! The sauce was SO flavorful and RICH! The truffle stayed clinging onto the inside of my nose, the top of my palate and the back of my throat - despite having lots of water and a cocktail. In fact, 2 hours later, I burped...and I was smelling the delicious truffle aroma all over again...)<br/><br/>Char-grilled T-bone steak with green beans and potatoes (...mouth-drippingly good charcoaled crispy bits on the outside, but very rare on the inside, as specified. It can be very hard to get the outside charcoaled while keeping the inside very rare - lots of places can't do it! But this was perfect. The side course of roasted potatoes wafted butter, and the green beans were faultlessly fresh and tenderly cooked...)<br/><br/>Nougat semifreddo with syrupped fruits, candied fruits and pistachio cream<br/>(...crunchy nutty nougat on an ice cold semifreddo was refreshingly re-awakening on this long Indian summer’s lunch day. The syrup soaked fruits and the candied fruits were like little jewel drops of flavour...)<br/>

One of the big four Italian institutions in Sydney, Buon Ricardo has established a reputation among diners for its elegant and sleek dining atmosphere. However, its status as a one-hatted restaurant, like countless other hatted restaurants, appears a farcical because it is another overpriced and underwhelming restaurant. <br/><br/>Buon Ricordo's legendary truffle egg fettuccini probably defined its history and reputation. The cheap, underwhelming truffle was nothing more than an overpriced flavour enhancer and tasted nothing like the white truffles from Alba which produces a mesmerizing and intoxicatingly aroma and flavour that is gastronomically special. To put it bluntly, the truffle at Buon is not much different from Macca's truffle fries. <br/><br/>The main course, a certain Pesce al Vapore, or Steamed Antarctic Patagonian Toothfish ($53), serves with a salsa of fresh tomato, thyme, lemon and olive oil, was as simple as it could be. There is no surprises or anything worthy of mention. You can easily replicate this at home.

Buon Ricordo came highly recommended by the BFF, she said it serves the best carbonara she has tasted so I had to come try! Their version of carbonara is with fettucine, cream and parmesan topped with fried truffle egg. I only managed to take a picture of the "tossed" version. I didn't have time to take a proper photo before it was tossed at the table as I didn't know they did that! lol the sauce was great!

The truffle egg parmesan pasta was why we came, and boy was it worth it- simple, delicious, totally moreish. The service was extremely formal- sort of felt cold, but I guess you can't complain about being treated too politely... Anyway, the dish lived up to its reputation, and that is a blessing!

Truffle pasta !! We have been a couple of times and it's always so delicious! The school prawns fried with chili oil are so good when they are the special menu. Fond memories of the bruschetta as well - tomatoes are amazing. Can't wait to go back

The service was impeccable and food exceptional. Whole boned baby snapper was very tasty and fresh. Vegetables were great. Expensive but worth it.

The food was nice (4/5) but the service was a bit too slow (3/5). Took them at least 20 mins to get our order. The staff there was friendly tho.

This was not an ordinary meal last night. A winery had booked the entire restaurant for a wine maker's dinner. So I won't talk about the wine.So for the kitchen staff to pump out about 100 meals, the same meals, was an amazing effort and from what I heard there was consistent quality. The staff were exceptionally professional, under the watchful glaze of Armando Percuoco, the experience was amazing, it had been about 16 years since I was last there and was amazed that the quality of the Italian food has consistently increased over my last recollection and also based on what other at the event had said.So given the context of the evening I was very impressed about the quality of food and service. While some of the dishes were not to my palate, I can appreciate them and the quality of them.I only wish the Angus steak was bigger as it was so tender and flavoursome, I could have eaten 3 or 4 of them - I wish I could buy steak that tender from my local supermarket (I don't have a local butcher near where I live). For ethical reasons I am not a fan of foie gras, and took it off (I have only eaten it once in my life and that was earlier this year). The pancetta was more like floppy bacon wrapped around the steak than what I expected - but either way, I also took that off (why ruin great steak with pig meat - if it is not red meat then it is not real meat :)  )The chocolate dessert (Cioccolato di Verona) was spot on for me - not to rich or sweet - a very good balance of the two.Highly recommend this bastion of fine Italian food to anyone wanting fine food and a memorable evening.

Excellent dining experience as always, service is impeccable. Our degustation was amazing - catered to each individual. Every dish was full of flavour.. I can't wait to go back 👍

Went to this place for lunch. The food was ok but the service was quite bad. The waiter was quite rude and kept staring while we eat which makes us really uncomfortable.

Absolutely beautiful inside and a little hard to find (the entrance is modest). First off the famous fettucine with truffle dish. They come over and mix it all up for you and thr waiter left the cheese grater thing so i though you can adjust ur cheese (he took it away shortly so unfortunately you dont). Truffle taste isnt too strong and i found it a bit lacking, prefer a more overwhelming taste. Main dish (had veal) wasnt bad but like always beef is hard to get wrong, wasnt extraordinary either just ok.<br/><br/>Recommend for an occasion but nothing spectacular.

What a great place. The decor is dated (ie floral chairs) but that is insignificant given everything else. The first thing that you notice when you walk in is the service (typically Italian). There were at least 4/5 staff welcoming us at various points of the restaurant until we arrived at our table including the owner Armando.<br/><br/>Food we had the pasta with fried truffle egg tossed......it was divine! I had the prawns with chilli oil, again......stunning. For mains we had the Angus Beef wrapped in Pancetta with Foie Gras. I'm not a fan of Foie Gras but this was amazing. Our other main was the lamb shoulder in ricotta, mint and lemon....can't speak higher.<br/><br/>We've heard about Buon Ricardo for years and finally tried it. It is a Sydney institution that every local....& those visiting should try. You won't be disappointed.

We recently went to Buon Ricordo as part of a group of 20 for a friends birthday. Given the size of our party the menu was limited. The host recommended the truffle fettuccini and I can't talk it up enough. The flavour in that dish was outstanding and I was trying to find a way to get the left over sauce out of my bowl!! The next dish I chose was lamb, which fell of the bone and was full of flavour. By the end of this I was completely stuffed and unable to eat my desert which unfortunately went wasted. The service was fantastic, the private room was really nice with lots of atmosphere, and the overall experience was A+.

If classic, authentic Italian fare is what you are after then you need to tick Buon Ricordo off your bucket list. Let’s start with the old fashioned personalised service – simply outstanding, probably the best in Sydney. Armando Percuoco’s eyes are everywhere and his staff dressed in crisp white jackets are extremely knowledgable, professional and attentive. The Tuscan decor is homely and charming, you feel like you are eating in his family home. It all adds to a very personal dining experience.

We tend to like ordering as we eat as we don't know how much we can finish. However, we were told to order all our food together as they were extremely busy. When we said we won't order anymore for now, the menu was snatched off us. The food was not only just plain decent and overpriced, it was very soon killed by the rude restaurant owner who provided burnt garlic bread and when asked to replace it, he provided plain bread and refused to replace it with normal garlic bread because he had "no more left". He even said that we were at the wrong restaurant. I've have never been treated so rudely by any restaurant manager. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Sadly, I suspect this place has seen better days. The design looks tired, the waiters look jaded, and the food is unadventurous at best and downright mediocre at worst. <br/><br/>Full disclosure: I ate here as part of a large function group on a set menu, so it's possible the regular a la carte menu shows a bit more finesse, and inspires a bit more care in the kitchen. I certainly hope that's the case. But the five courses I was served ranged from the acceptable (tomato bruschetta) to the puzzling (a confit salmon taken so far that its texture was soft, wet and soggy), right through to the barely edible (an overly salted and rich wagyu braise on a bed of stodgy polenta). There was a pasta dish in there somewhere too that resembled something an enthusiastic flatmate might create for his share house, unnecessarily pimping a Latina packet sauce with his own "cheffy" embellishments to the point of killing the balance completely. <br/><br/>Armando Percuoco no longer rattles the pans here. He's handed the cooking duties over to a younger chef. But on the evidence of my meal here last night, maybe he should consider resting the business altogether. <br/><br/>It might have been great once. But in the age of Fratelli Paradiso, Ormeggio at the Spit, A Tavola, Berta, Sagra, 10 William St, Russo & Russo, Cafe Sopra, Lumi Dining and Popolo... diners can now get much better Italian food, in much buzzier surroundings, for substantially less money. I'd even sooner spend the money on a flight to Melbourne to dine at Tipo 00 than endure another meal here.

We had the degustation menu - just divine and so much food!<br/>Every course was truly delicious. The truffled egg pasta is to DIE for - you can't come here without trying it. Best pasta I have ever had. The only let down was the soufflé for desert - funny flavour (but should mention we were all very full by this point!).<br/>The restaurant itself is warm and pleasant but perhaps a little outdated. Service was fine.<br/>It was pricey but would recommend.

Snobby arrogant waiters with limited menu. Run Down Snobby and far from friendly.<br/>Limited menu mainly comprising of seafood<br/>Very poor people skills and no atmosphere.<br/>Totally breath taking arrogance

Superb. We had our 26th anniversary here. Magic in every way. The degustation dinner with wine was worth every cent.

Fantastic Food, underwhelming service. Having previously visited Buon Ricordo and sampled the degustation menu, we booked again for a celebratory birthday dinner, specifically to have the Truffle Egg Pasta. After being seated, and ordering drinks, we advised the waiter that we knew that two main sized dishes were too much food, and instead we would share a main as well as order accompanying sides. From this moment, the attitude of our waiter changed. The waiter became quite dismissive, and almost rude in the way he communicated with us. The food arrived quickly, and the plates were taken away as soon as the last bite was eaten. There was no time to sit and enjoy our drinks before the dessert menu was bought out. The chef was kind enough to plate our shared dessert for two, which was very appreciated. As with the first time we visited, the food was exemplary. The truffle egg pasta would be my favorite dish of any of the many, many restaurants I have visited in Sydney. However, after the experience I had with the service last night, both my partner and I walked away agreeing we will most likely not return. We almost felt shamed that we weren't spending enough money to warrant good service. I would recommend the food, but am sad that this almost ruined my birthday experience.

I adored the crab and nettle pasta at Bottega, went back a couple more times especially for it, and the duck risotto at Lupino was fabulous, why did you take them off the menu? I’m not saying there aren’t good Italian restaurants, there are plenty, but not the stayers on the menus (fickleness down south, or boring-ness up north?). Speaking of Melbourne, if you do want some of the great Calabrese cuisine I’ve grown up with, Sarti gets a big tick from me.

Often called the fore-father of Australian Italian cuisine, owner Armando Pecuoco brings to Sydney our little version of the exuberant Italy. I've been planning this visit for a year and a half already, although my friend E remains adamant it was a last minute thing. Please.

The entree was to die for!!! (it went something like this: tuna encrusted with cracked pepper, seared so it was still raw, very thinly sliced and topped with battered fried anchovies, then lightly drizzled with a mayonnaise dressing --- the combination was unlike anything I had tasted before, absolutely melted in my mouth) ..... I would definitely go back for that specific entree (~$30) and the superb service. T he rest of the meal was quite ordinary. I can't remember what I had for my main course because I keep thinking about how good the entree was!

“Buon Ricordo” is an Italian phrase that translates literally to “good memories”. Our previous visit to Buon Ricordo suggests that it is a highly appropriate name for that restaurant. It is a name that evokes memories of the warm familial atmosphere, of t

The truffled egg pasta would have to be Buon Ricordo's most famous dish. It arrives at the table wafting with truffle oil, a huddle of housemade fettucine crowned with a fried egg. You might score a double yolker if you're lucky.

INSENSITIVE OWNER. We enjoyed the food, the ambiance, the wait service, until...the owner started laughing out loudly, talking way too loudly, parading around what he obviously believes is his god given right to perform in HIS restaurant. What ever happened to making the evening about your paying guests having an intimate dinner and being able to hear each other. infuriating experience when it could have been delightful!!<br/><br/><br/>-----06 Mar, 2015-----<br/><br/>Shame about the owner. We were looking for a quiet intimate dinner as we are so tired of eating in noisy restaurants where diners don't know how to behave.<br/>It was all looking good as we entered Buon Ricordo, the atmosphere, the service, the food ........and then, the owner came to pass.<br/>Laughing so loud you jumped out of your seat as he was parading himself around various tables, talking as loudly as he could so we would all notice him. Poor man didn't realize we were not there to feed his oversized ego, we were there to have a delicious meal and talk to each other. Journos if you are looking for a story, he can be heard talking about his guests, eg, John Laws, John Alexander stories were all spoken of out loud and not very favorable. Book a table but make sure its his night off!

Favourite Italian in Sydney. This is a top restaurant. I've been here twice with my wife and have loved it both times. The service is very professional, and have been served by the same waiters each time, who were very knowledgable in the wine department.<br/>My wife loves the truffle pasta and I like their seafood. The calamari entree is amazing. Some of the best food I've ever had. Only downside is the price - entree and main you'll be looking at 60-80 dollars each, but the food and service is well on par with the price. Highly recommended

Great pasta. Generally, we had a pleasant experience here. Food was amazing especially the pasta dishes, which have very distinctive taste. The only drawback we would say was the long waiting time when we arrived. We made reservation. Still, upon our arrival, we still had to wait for a good 10 minute to be seated. In addition to that, after the lady came to ask us what drinks we wanted, we got no drink until 15-20 minutes later. And it took them another 10 minutes to come take our order. The restaurant was very busy that night with a few big tables but with such a restaurant we expect it to manage better. Apart all of that, everything was good.

Best Italian Dining Experience. I was overwhelmed by such an incredible experience. The restaurant is so authentic it perfectly reflects the essence of being in Italy. Welcoming and friendly all Italian staff with the restaurant owner Buon Ricordo flocking around tables to chat and ensure everyone is enjoying the meal. Hugely extensive wine list is fantastic and we loved sharing a bottle of Chianti Classico red from the Tuscan wine region in Italy. The signature truffled egg cream fettucine was to die for as well as the 500g steak and oven baked snapper. Absolutely thrilled with the overall experience and even though the prices were very expensive, the authenticity of traditional Italian ambience, service and flavours was definitely worth it!<br/>Highly recommend this restaurant for all Italian lovers!!

OH WHAT AN EXPERIENCE. My wife and I ate at Buon Ricordo yesterday for lunch 2/5/14.<br/>it was an amazing experience in great dining. the food whilst simple was devine<br/>the waiters whilst looking old school were certainly some of the best we have encountered, but most importantly they new the Menu in detail and made some wonderful suggestions which we happily tried .<br/>yes the beverages are expensive but I think the food was very reasonably priced. highly recommend the Scallops for Entre, Steak for main and the Choc Tart for desert, the whole menu looked great.<br/>thank you to all the staff for a great dining experience. we will be back for dinner.

Overpriced, but still quality.. My partner and I ate here for my birthday last night. I thought the service was great and found the food to be for the most part delicious, however I'm not sure if it quite justifies it's price tag. With an entree, main and dessert plus 1 beer each it came in at around $120 per head (around 30 for entree, 50 for main, 25 for dessert + 9 a beer). In hindsight perhaps the degustation would have been a better choice as from memory it had a similiar price tag on it. Definitely don't regret the experience but if I was the one paying next time (thanks, gf x) I don't think I'd put this place high on my priorities list as I don't think the product quite backs up the expense. Oh and I didn't know we were going here so wasn't aware of the 'famous' truffle egg pasta, so I am somewhat inclined to go back if only to try that. Perhaps I'll wait for another time when my meal is being shouted though ;) Oh and they cater largely to wine drinkers (though from other reviews here it seems that's an even bigger culprit for the elevated prices) but for beer drinkers the choices are skimp - Cascade / Cascade Light or Peroni. I find most restaurants of this ilk have a much better beer selection so I was a little disappointed that I had little choice in what I could drink with my meal.

This means good memories in Italian - yes it was memorable. We went for my partner's birthday, & I had rung up & booked a few days earlier. When we got there on time , we were told we didn't have a booking . Not a problem though , they did have a table . Shortly after we were seated , the MD came over & told us we were booked for next week, and that I must have said "next Saturday" when I booked , so they were saying effectively it was my fault there was no booking- unlikely as my partner's birthday seems to have the same date each year ! <br/>About 1/2 hr or so after ordering, the waiter came over & said they had misplaced the order.....we waited &.dinner actually came out at least 1 1/4 hrs after ordering. We had ordered a side of spinach . This didn't come with the food , so we said that we had also asked for spinach, but as it hadn't come, could they cancel it..... towards the end of the meal , the spinach came out - so we sent it back , saying we had cancelled it. <br/>Then the owner came out & sarcastically, I thought, asked if everything was all right. I said we had waited for 1 1/4hr for our dinner, my partner said it was his birthday, the owner loudly & with a level of effusion I thought clearly indicating insincerity, said "Happy birthday". We obviously did not feel not welcome here by this stage. We finished our main course & I asked for the bill.<br/>The waiter however was really great, he apologised & really did make us feel welcome, as at this stage I just wanted to get out of there...........it became just funny though when the bill came - they had charged us $235 for the wine I ordered , which was in fact $ 72.00. They changed this, no problems , and by that stage I just thought it was all comical. <br/>The food was good , I thought my veal roll was a bit too salty, my partner's duck was very nice......<br/>Memorable yes......I felt not such a good memory though !!!!

Good food, but extremely rude restaurant owner. I waited one and a half hour for my main course, and when I politely ask the waiter about my main, the restaurant owner overheard and reprimanded me that this is not a yum cha restaurant and I should be more patient. This is also such a racist comment just because I am an Asian. I feel very offended to this answer and do not understand why he could not reply me politely, one and a half hour waiting time is definitely long. Definitely not coming back to a restaurant that is racist and having such a rude owner.

Disappointed. My friends and I were much eager to try the restaurant's Truffle Egg Fettucine. We ordered two entrees - the veal sausage with truffle oil, the octopus and two pastas - the signature fettucine and the shrimp with pistachio.<br/>We had expected the prices to be expensive and the portions small. However, the flavours were sensational. Everything in terms of service and food were great until it came to the fettucine.<br/>When our waiter delivered our mains, a certain incident occurred in my fettucine. I called over the waiter who offered to change my plate. He returned with a new plate and walked off. <br/><br/>No explanation, no apology.<br/><br/>My dining friend, decided to mention the "incident" earlier in the evening when our waiter brought over the dessert menus to our table. Our waiter did not acknowledge him and simply walked off.<br/><br/>For a two-hatted restaurant that has been established for over twenty years, we would have expected better service and our matter to be resolved more appropriately. Sometimes, customers like us don't expect any monetary reimbursement. A simple apology from the waiter (even though it wasn't directly his fault) would have made our evening a little more pleasant. Avoiding the situation, doesn't resolve the problem.<br/>I'm sure if this incident was to occur in the presence of well-known public figures such as Cate Blanchett and the Packer's, the situation would have been dealt with much more efficiently.<br/><br/>One thing that Buon Ricordo and many restaurants have neglected is the power of the internet and the world is revolving. Foodies like myself voice their opinions online and these opinions might be read by many others. And that is simply the reason why I have written this review.
Jennifer
Awesome. Something that Ive realised tonight is that if I go to an awesome restaurant and I love it then I go home thinking about the food -but I don't review it.<br/><br/>On the other hand tonight I had one of the most horrible meals I had in a long time so much that as soon as I got home I felt a review was necessary - to warn others not to go there.<br/><br/>So for that reason Im writing this review to recommend Buon Ricordo, as often we don't review those things great. The dishes are spectacular, absolutely perfect gambretti prawns. scallops and pasta to die for.<br/><br/>I recommend Buon Ricordo without hesitation and I will be back soon :)

My first time at this lovely restaurant I was very impressed with the food & the staff are amazing. Very friendly warm atmosphere. You must try the truffle egg pasta.

That's Amore!. After the bus ride from hell, we arrived right on time at this lovely little restaurant and were met by a vision! The building itself is right out of an Italian village! It looked the part, we went in and it totally delivered! Service was patchy, yet utterly forgivable as it was also so friendly. But the real reason for the hour of public transport hell was the food, and it was worth it after all! The signature dish of truffle infused egg pasta was a tour de force of the truffle world! It was not subtle, rather like having a dump truck of truffles land on you, which is a good thing! The woven garfish fillets, freshly deep fried prawns with chilli oil and veal roulade, and even the side of potatoes in tomato sauce, were all very good! Wines were very expensive, up to $400 plus per bottle, and not a lot to choose from in the $80 - $160 range, so we went with a nice central Otagan Pinot at $19 per glass which was very satisfactory. A great experience that I would love to relive any time, but next time I'll catch a cab!

The service was outstanding and the food was matched perfectly with the wines by a sommelier who definitely knows what he is talking about. 10 out of 10 for a perfect date night!

Never again. Believe me!. Booked 10 days ago when I asked if I could bring some special wine. This was specifically agreed. The day before I confirmed the booking, because it was to be big mother's evening but not the wine.<br/>On the night I was confronted by the Duty Officer at the front desk and told in no uncertain terms "NO BYO and nobody would have agreed to you request". The argument in front of my party did not let up.<br/><br/>We were about to depart when the D.O. came back with a compromise: they would let us have one bottle for a $20 corkage. (I had brought extra wine as I was unsure of our wine and food preferences.)<br/>We bought their 2005 Pewsey Vale Riesling for $65 (3X retail price) and it was served in cheap wine glasses. <br/>When our BYO 1994 Menzies was brought to the table in a small decanter with distinct distain, I asked the Sommielier to give us red wine glasses instead of the cheap white wine glasses. He replied "they are our standard red wine glasses" and walked off. Even in "no hat" good restaurants would we be treated like that and are always offered red wine glasses, often of good quality.<br/><br/>Perhaps he was in a huff because we were not buying his reds with their 3 to 4 X markup. Hill of Grace for $950, 1990s Grange for $1200.<br/><br/>The food waiters and the food average for a 1 hat.<br/><br/>When we left I suggested they might like to check their records with the person who took the original booking and call with an apology. "Really" was the cheeky reply.<br/><br/>It is time these pretentious restaurants realised that BYO is exercised by those with extensive cellars, not to save money but to have their own cellared wine.<br/>Cheap skates we are not - overpaying for 5 small dinners ($520) deserves some respect. 3 people had 2 entries.

Over rated. Over priced. Signature dish soaked in truffle oil, no truffle flakes even in sight. Wish it had been better, what a disappointment, this is definitely not Europe, just Paddington thinking it's the best.

John Lethlean. I'm not saying I agree with you John, but....it wasn't the best experience of all time. Far from it really. My meals were OK not spectacular and certainly not 2 hat. The waiter although professional told porkies about the food when asked a simple question about a particular sauce and was caught out. It is OK not to know every ingredient on the menu. But don't pretend you do.

So dissappointed. Oh dear! Had heard great things about this restaurant so was excited about going. Waiting staff were friendly and very helpful, starters were lovely. However, it went downhill rapidly when the main courses arrived. My wife and I both ordered the pork loin. It looked fantastic but the first mouthful revealed it to be overcooked and incredibly dry. We politely sent both ours back with some feedback. The waiter was very apologetic and offered us the menus to order again. I had the duck, which was great, my wife went straight for a dessert. However, when the bill came, we were both surprised to find we had been charged for the pork; as a "gesture", they had only charged for one pork plus the duck. As we had only had one main, we felt this was a little unfair and asked to see the manager. This turned out to be the chef who came out from the kitchen to our table and proceeded to tell us that "the pork was fine, we were wrong, we clearly did not know how pork should be cooked and that we should pay for it!". This was incredibly embarrasing in the middle of a packed restaurant and showed no respect for our views or opinions. To cut a long story short, his arrogance, rudeness and unprofessional attitude towards us as customers ruined our evening. We will never go back - save your money and choose a restaurant that values it's customers.

Not great. Terrible service, outrageous pricing and stuck up service. Paid almost 400 dollars for dinner for two, some dishes went back untouched and no member of staff even bothered to ask if meals where ok. Enter at your own risk.

A dinner to delight the palate. Absolutely the finest restaurant I have frequented. The cusine, service and ambiance is second to none. Armando's truffle egg pasta ( fettuccine al tartufovo ) addictively lures me back time and time again.

Love it! Love it! Love it! Armondo and staff know food. There are no tricked up plates here. The best of an ingredient is amplified through exemplary execution. Delicious!

Tried the degustation option and didn't regret it. Every dish was fantastic. The waiters were very informed and professional, but had that touch of Italian nonchalance about them, which actually suited the whole ambience. Can't wait to go back again soon.

Ma che bella!. Ma che bella translates to wow what a beauty! Has to be the best Italian restaurant in Australia. Armando Percuoco is a freak. His place is a villa tucked away in Paddington. You look like you're in Nonna's house in Calabria but you are actually sitting on a chair that is commissioned for satisfaction. The whole event was incredible. You have to understand really that food of this nature is orgasmic and completing. The wine to match was second to none and the entertainment in that of Armando was wonderful. I love Armando and this place. Best Italian Yet.

Admittedly it is a long time since I walked through the doors of this fine establishment but I still have the memories of two or three wonderful meals there. Armando was a very gracious host and I must have the figs in gorgonzola again some time soon.
