Not the most traditional Italian ever but they do great food and restaurant is BYO. Rat Baits (mini bread balls and garlic butter) are the absolute best. Pizzas always have high quality toppings.
Very busy and staff was polite. Takeaway was a 20min wait but worth it. BBQ chicken pizza and the fettuccine australis pasta was delicious but a bit pricey for what you got.
We dined here early one evening and were greeted by some truly lovely staff. So friendly and genuine, they really set the tone for a great dining experience.
Our waitress immediately brought over some colouring pencils and pictures for our son to colour in and honestly, it touches like this that make restaurants stand out. It's BYO and we were encouraged to duck over the road to the bottle shop, which we did! My husband ordered a half n half pizza including the Mexican pizza which was really spicy and full of flavour - delicious! The other half was supreme with the usual suspects but really enjoyable, he liked his choice of the night.
I went with penne pasta puttanesca and was thrilled to see they did not charge extra for gluten free pasta. Massive props to these guys for this, it was greatly appreciated! My meal was packed full of fresh ingredients that all worked so well together and I thoroughly enjoyed my dish.
When our bill was brought over to us, our waitress has some jellybeans for our son but she hid them from sight and showed me before offering them to him. This was so nice!! The fact that they give out these treats is wonderful but it was even more appreciated that they asked us parents first to give us the opportunity to decline the lollies. The staff here really made for a wonderful dinner and while the food is great, fresh and flavoursome, it really is the staff that made our night great.
Wanted a night in after a long day at the beach and some takeaway pizzas seemed like the best idea!
We ordered 2 large pizzas and 1 small and they were all delicious.
Meat Lovers was really good - not too cheesy or soggy
Hawaiian was delicious
Supreme was really good but could’ve gone a bit heavier on the toppings
Pizza base was really great and none of them were soggy!
Very good and friendly service, but food was average. Lasagne was decent but the seafood al pesce pasta we had was extremely plain. Plenty of ingredients but somehow didn't taste as flavorful as i had hoped. Tiramisu was ok as well.
We were on holidays in Yamba and were pleasantly surprised by Sassafras. We were welcomed with big smiles, great service and home cooked food. Menu was great, not too big and they had a few good seasonal specials. Dined with children and we all had a great night, would recommend.

Place is amazing. It is the best pizza I have ever had and I have had a lot of pizza. A must have when in yamba. Amazing service and food
One of the best gluten free pizzas I have ever had! Ver tasty!!
Always will return to sassafras!. Every time we go to yamba on a family holiday, we make one night is reserved for this restaurant. Friendly service, good food. A little more expensive than you'll probably expect but it's a lovely, fun night and so worth it. Pizzas are yum but I always love the surprise meals (and desserts) on the specials board. Always leave happy and content.
Absolutely delicious! Super friendly staff, great portion sizes & a relaxed but professional atmosphere. Food is high quality. Pecan pie is to die for!!!
Service was amazing, staff very efficient. The food was quick and delicious. The pizza was great. Starting with the perfect base followed quilty toppings.our gnocchi was the softest and tasty. I would love to visit again.
Great food, excellent service. I had the Seafood Marinara from the specials board and my wife had the Lasagne. Had a Prawn Pizza 2 nights ago and it was also delicious. Will definetly be back loved it.
We ordered a medium BBQ chicken pizza and lasagne takeaway.
Both were really delicious!
The lasagna pictured is only half of the serving :)
Loved Sassafras, we had some pretty mediocre meals at different restaurants during our stay in Yamba and we were really hoping for a saving grace - thankfully we thoroughly enjoyed our meals.
We had margarita pizza, lasagne and carbonara - all of which were delicious.
The prices were great and service good also even on a fully booked night.
Who would have thought a quiet fishing village would have an Italian Restaurant that would compete with the likes of Melbourne, well here you have it!
A must for those on the road, I had the seafood pasta and the wife the pizza. If you want something to nibble on before your main order the “Rat Bait” and don’t be put off by the name.
BYO for a reasonable corkage is across the road but the selection doesn’t match the food. Staff are great and down to earth with an Aussie twist.
Definitely book when in Yamba!!

We were welcomed then warmly seated.. we ordered through lovely conversation.. smiles everywhere.. our delicious meals served quickly.. steaming hot on a cold windy night.. Word to the wise.. 'wowsers' .. of course we left a tip.. this crew is fantastic and perfect
I enjoyed the atmosphere, staff, service, wait time, byo feature.
I love seafood, river food, etc.
The Chef's Special Seafood Marinara with pasta was nice, twice now, it had the right amount of Seaford, not enough pasta. The flavours were too much, needed there to be more pasta. It tasted more like a seafood broth. A bit disappointed again. Should of said something there.
