I was lucky enough to attend the first weekend of High Teas yesterday, and it was truly fabulous!! The owner went above and beyond to ensure our experience was memorable for all the right reasons! The staff were so friendly and helpful, the food was to die for, and having an opportunity to hear from the chefs was very special. My mum loves her ‘high teas’, and I was so happy that her birthday celebration was so amazing - she even had the French chef sing happy birthday to her!!
I would highly recommend a day out with your family visiting the Chocolaterie as there is plenty to keep everyone entertained!
I was lucky enough to be part of their first High Tea and must say they did it very well. Staff were very engaging our hostess was the owner and to listen to her passion for the business was great. A pastry chef who is French came to tell us what he has prepared along with a chocolate maker from Belgium who both work there. Table set beautifully fresh flowers, pretty crockery, place tags with our names. Food was delicious plenty of it endless drinks of your choice tea, coffee and of course hot chocolate! Price very reasonable and if they keep it reasonable and produce same level of service I can see this being very successful. I will be back to enjoy this experience again. Thanks Yarra Valley Chocolaterie Michele.
We visited just before lockdown (thank goodness as I can only assume the sample bowls which are the absolute highlight are now very much a thing of the past) and discovered they have gotten rid of the perfectly tart lemon tart! DEVASTATING. There’s still plenty to appreciate however, the grounds are stunning and you can buy your ice cream and wander around the gardens or sit on the lawn and enjoy the picturesque countryside #bringbackthetart

The serving sizes are ginormous, I always over order and out come gigantic indulgent sundaes, the decadent brownie which is my absolute favourite brownie I've had in life thus far and scones (possibly the biggest scone I've ever seen, don't order scones for two unless you are starving)
Further update
Another interstate visitor in tow we hit up the chocolaterie for some sweet treats. I’ve never ordered a dessert I wasn’t thoroughly impressed with so it was the lemon tart with a shot of warm chocolate eaten sitting out on the verandah soaking up the atmosphere whilst savouring every bite of the sugary dessert temptations.
Update
We had an interstate visitor so took her for her first taste of the joy that is the chocolaterie. First up I’ll say I don't recommend going anywhere near Christmas time unless you want sticky fingered children running around you.
That aside, one of my favourite things to do on a Sunday is take a trip out to the Yarra Valley for lunch and finish on a sweet note at the chocolaterie. It's a delightful experience from the moment you walk in with samples of delicious chocolate buttons in large bowls (what a line).
Original review
Its always packed with people and rightly so, particularly when they have their famous hot chocolate festival or ice cream festival running. There's so many fantastic premium things for sale in the showroom it's my first port of call for all my gifting needs and if you are lucky you can peer into the open kitchen and see the chocolatiers at work. You can also book in for classes at times.
You will always leave with your stomach heaving regretting your greedy need to sample so much but looking back on it salivating the next day. Definitely recommend going to the Easter egg hunt if you have kids I happened to be there last year on Easter weekend and they children were absolutely thrilled. No adult participation allowed sadly
Have been here multiple times and it's always a fun day-trip from Melbourne.
It's always crowded and the staff should be applauded on their ability to handle so many tables and customers. I do find the service a little abrupt and pushy at times but overall it's friendly enough.
The food is a little on the pricey side (especially basic drinks like Coke Zero or water) for what you get but the desserts are excellent value. The free chocolate chips as you enter always go down a treat with the kids.
😱Lizzie’s first impression: Great area for a day trip, good hot chocolates and delicious chocolates (of course).
🍩Lizzie enjoyed: I love that they have the free samples on arrival – what an entrance. I love that you can see the machines and the history that goes behind how they make the chocolates from the machines. They have a great selection of chocolates and in particular the hot chocolate is actually delicious.
🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: I am yet to visit when they do their hot chocolate festival where they mix chocolate with other flavours.
🥇Lizzie rates overall: great area to sit and explore outside too. Very easy to get to and worth the trip!
I got the dessert pizza on the menu and it had a unique taste with a strawberry cake, amazing ice cream and candy and some beautiful fairy floss. I feel like the presentation could have been improved and there could have been less cream cheese and more chocolate though.
A must when i'm in Yarra Glen! If you love chocolate, you would love it here
They have really good ice creams and the cafe offers quite a good range of savoury and sweet ranges.
The has a nice view which overlooks the winery and there is a nice garden if you would like to sit outside.
We had the hot chocolate and gelato and really enjoyed it.
Dont forget to have their gelato as well. They have quite a good range of flavours
I was hoping that visiting on a Friday afternoon would be less busy than some of my previous dining experiences here on the weekend but I guess other concert goers for the day on the green had similar ideas in mind. We were here just after the lunchtime rush and managed to secure the better of the indoor tables (it was far to hot outside). We order drinks today with scones having lunchtime plans elsewhere but had already sampled many many chocolate buttons from the white, milk & dark chocolate bins and purchased bars in Store. I loved the way the hot chocolate was presented and the pouring and stirring interaction they was required. Coffee was also ok but not super strong. I have previously had scones here and these were sizeable and tasty.
Service is friendly but frantic and it was a fairly long wait time for just a few hot chocs and coffees etc. The staff were well and truely slammed by the lunch rush as well. From where we sat we could see the frantic workings of staff... someone must be making money out of this tourist success story. 👏
Every chocolate lovers dream! From the assortment of chocolate buttons greeting you at the entrance to every single chocolate flavour you can think of – truffles, slabs, nougat, gift packs, hot chocolate packs, ice creams, giant bars… everything and anything chocolate related that you can imagine is right in this very place. YUM!
