So ate here last night with friends. I ordered my favorite Malaysian dish Beef Rendang but never expecting it to be better than I'd had in the past at a restaurant in South Yarra that has now been close for some years. One mouthful and I recognized the dish as being cooked by the same chef and on enquiry, I was one the money. He is now working at Mai Jia.
So if you like Malaysian Food Guys, this is the best in Melbourne. The chef's food here, has been touted as better than in Malaysia. Awarded Chef's Hat by The Age Good Food Guide 2017
So happy I've found my Beef Rendang Chef again.
Oh and FYI the prices are amazingly cheap and the service is efficient and delightful.
Awesome delicious We enjoyed the roti duck, beef rendang, gyoza, char kwae tao (spelling??) and Chinese fish. Great meal, good service, reasonable price and family friendly.
best laska place in melbourne! one of my fav laska, you can ask for all hokkien noodles if you wish. soup is very creamy and tasty, roast duck tastes crispy and so good. price is affordable, friendly staff and good enviornment.
OMG Mia Jia is the best and I’m so happy to recommend it to anyone looking. The team are so lovely, the menu is so ridiculously big with crazy options. The food tastes amazing and the price tag is one of the best, if not the best value eat in stuck up but loveable all the same South Yarra. Because my office is around the corner Mia Jia is one of the mainstays of our lunch adventures. More than a few in the building are fans and there’s plenty of reasons why. The lunch menu starts at $9.80 and there’s so many options that are under the $15 mark which is so excellent for this part of Melbourne. The style of the dining is Malaysian, with a few interesting influences. Noodles, roast meats, curries, vegetarian, laksa, fried chicken, the list goes on and on.
Absolutely loved this place, the food is delicious and the team are lovely. Of the three dishes we tried tonight it was impossible to pick a favourite. Can’t wait to try it again
Surprisingly I like this restaurant. At my first time visit, ordered the duck curry laksa, the portion for the duck is very generous. I would prefer the laksa soup to be a bit richer in flavour, but this could be a personal taste thing. Service wise, it's friendly, attentive. I really appreciate the piece of orange in the glass with ice, so the water doesn't taste totally like the tap water. I think this place is priced fairly, there are some cheaper items on the menu and some are a bit more expensive, but not too overly, it's South Yarra. I will return to try their other foods.
It is very personal opinion in this review, I am very happy to share my experience at this restaurant.
We ( table of 5) ordered their sign dish - Beef rendang, Assam fish, seafood Curry Laksa, Grilled chicken Curry Laksa, Char Kuew Teow, Chilli prawn, red Curry Duck, Sambal belacan green bean and the Salted and pepper Calamari for our main with Roti as well, it all very authentic and tasty. One of my friend just came back from home- Malaysia said, the Curry Laksa, Beef Rendang and Assam fish were even better than what she had in Malaysia this time. Wow...
At the end, we were finished very enjoyable with Malaysian style crispy banana fritters - Pisano Goreng and Kuih Dader.
Well done, Mai Jia Team
See you soon!
One of the most amazing Green Thai curries, I have ever had. It's my go-to place for lunch, infact for everyone in my office. Everything is perfectly amazing here. The laksa too!
Went there with a couple of friends on a busy Saturday night, luckily we made a booking beforehand. We were seated and served promptly by the delightful and bubbly waiting staff. We ordered some Nasi Lemak (one beef and one chicken), Grilled Chicken Curry Laksa and a Char Kway Teow (which they helped make vegan for me). The portion sizes were excellent, food was absolutely delicious and well priced! I will most definitely be returning soon for some more authentic Malaysian cuisine. I don't think I've come across a Malaysian restaurant in Melbourne that compares to Mai Jia, I highly recommend.
Really enjoyed cheap lunch here. Had the hainan chicken and the chicken ribs - they were good. Service was fast and friendly. Will come back.

Fantastic place for healthy but delicious food
Tired of salads and raw food to be healthy? This place has excellent tasting curries , and stir fries with over 200 items on the menu - every thing we ordered was great !
The Bao’s were with faux meat making EVEN VEGANS not miss out on a soft bao
The fish green curry with rice was Delicous generous size portion which didn’t leave you feeling stuffed , but fills you up .
The nasi lemak is very good too
Good spot for a quick lunch, which are affordably priced. The food is always good and the staff are friendly. I have only had lunch here from their lunch special menus and they are of good portion. I assume the dinner would be also.
