Review Social Street S2 - Adelaide

Michelle Liu
Husband and I went to dinner here to meet our friend, and it was absolutely incredible. Every single thing we ordered was fantastic! We were blown away by the delightful service and ambience. Every dish was made to perfection and there wasn’t one that we didn’t love!! Some of our favorites were the soft crab, tropical pineapple fried rice, boneless fried chicken, and duck salads. They surprised us with some of their top picks. Love the family style portion sharing because we got to try a little bit of everything! We were sat on upstate. I was worried about the temperature and the service at first, BUT everything came out in a timely manner by our server and we felt so special dining at here. Overall, such an exquisite, hip, and fun restaurant! Definitely coming back and would highly recommend to anyone in Adelaide!!!!

We ate downstairs. Both the drinks and our meals came out separately. The Pad Thai was almost gone by the time the chicken stay stri fry came into. Pad thai was very tasty.

Cosy set restaurant with an upstairs area. We enjoyed 2 meals- barramundi and drunken noodles. They were beautiful presented, delicious well balanced flavours and excellent value. Service was friendly, although our meals did not come out at the same time. Happy to revisit.

Came for a quick Friday lunch with my wife, service was excellent, food was served really fast and my goodness was it delicious! Fair warning though, this was the most spicy Pad Thai I've had! Will definitely be back!

First time I went here as it had been recommended by a friend. I was not disappointed. Flavourful, good portion sizes and arrived quickly. The service was excellent too, attentive waiters were happy to take photos for us. Highly recommended.

We met up with some friends on Friday and I’ve been here serval times before. The Thai dumplings – oh my goodness, it’s full of flavour and well presented. And the staff was so friendly and attentive. He was always smiling and happy. Can’t wait to go back.

Wanted a Thai, so we went to Social St S2. Great menu with good price, lovely staff who took my order. Food was amazing or should I say awesome. And the best thing is they have Vegan choices

One of the best Thai restaurants I have ever been to! Amazing food and great service. The lunch menu is a great deal. I’ll be back soon.

Tried this place a while back and it wasn't great thai. It was just okay. I specifically asked for my chicken pad thai to be juicy and have sauce, but ended up being dry. Prices vs quality isn't great. There's much room for improvement as it's needed.

Over all it was Good. Ambiance cozy, table set up ok (considering the floor size of the whole restaurant), servers were nice and accommodating, volume of wine/drinks and food sizes served were average (could be worth the price give or take), food tasted good e.g. enjoyed the salad, the prices were standard. On the other hand, the curries were too rich, too thick, lost the "curry" flavour.
The waiting time was not too bad for us, as what we were expecting...might be because we were prepped by previous diner's reviews about the "delays" + we were not very hungry or in a hurry when we visited. They did have lots of online orders/Uber/Deliveroo...we felt a bit left behind in the service. Cleanliness/organisation can be improved, hopefully. Again, we thought it was a good experience for us first time diners. Are we recommending? Yeah, why not.

The food was absolutely incredible and the customer service was one of the best and memorable I have come across.

There was an honest mix up and these guys went above and beyond to rectify. Will be back time and time again for sure.

And honestly all the food we ordered were stand out dishes, they were all delicious and couldn’t fault them.

10/10

Decided to have a quick home delivered meal. And thought I would give this place a go. The seaflowers are lovely. Not the nicest version of this dish but the red curry sauce and presentation was very good. There is nothing like a good laksa and this was a good seafood laksa. Very impressed.

Fresh ingredients, lovely flavour and perfect portionsize is what made my pad thai perfect meal.
Welcoming staff with beautiful ambience.
A must visit.

Great quality, quantity and hospitality. Soup was very authentic. The staff can translate the Thai menu pretty well and take care of the spice levels.

Great food and service - friendly and fast - tasty dishes - the barramundi was delicious with a good batter - curries were good and dessert was delicious - we shared all 3 - coconut ice cream best I’ve had since Vietnam and equal to it

Friendly wait staff but they forgot one of the dishes we ordered... they were apologetic though

Food is good, nice dining ambiance but a but cramped.

Best service I’ve had in a long time, the staff were super friendly and made us feel welcome as soon as we walked through the door. Ordered the Thai fried chicken wings and fish cakes for entree. Chicken wings were what you would expect for standard fried chicken but the lemongrass sauce it was served with elevated to another level. Extremely generous portion size for an entree too. Fish cakes had a great consistency and were full of flavour also accompanied with a delicious sauce that paired perfectly. Next were Choo Chee prawns. Prawns were cooked nicely but I felt the dish lacked sauce. I also found the sauce a tad sweet for liking but was still enjoyable. All in all a great dinner. Would definitely go back!

Eh. Pretty average food and definitely not made traditionally... The spices in the curry puffs weren’t cooked off enough so they were gritty and harsh.
The red curry was way thicker than it should have been and the rice was over-cooked.
The first vegetarian pad Thai was way too sweet, didn’t have a single vegetable in it and was full of really hard tamarind seeds, so we had it replaced and the second was a lot better but still not great, no char from the wok and the noodles were so thin that they clumped together. All very underwhelming..

You're probably wondering what the call button has to do with this review? Yes? This button was situated next to me on the wall. I thought it was just an ornament of some kind, until I pressed it. Within a minute there was Anastasia, our server next to me, asking if she could help. Apparently, a few tables downstairs and the tables upstairs all have a call button next to them as the servers are not able to see you, you can get their attention faster if you press the call button. Love it!

To read the rest of my review, click on the link below.

We finished all dishes but that was just because we never waste food. As Thai food lovers we have been to so many Thai restaurants globally and been to Thailand a few times too. But we cannot say this is an authentic Thai restaurant. Dishes are lack of the essence of Thai food which is the herbal fragrance. I am so sorry for providing this feedback but I just want to express our views after our experiences. The atmosphere and service are both good.

I Absolutely loved the food. Literally the best thai food I’ve ever tried...Cosy place and lovely staff as well. Will definitely go back soon.

For sure it was the best Thai restaurant that I’ve tried in Adelaide. Green curry was so creamy and velvety. We tried 5 different dishes and we were amazed by quality of each and every dish . Will come back for sure .

We had an early dinner for two. Ordered the $32 banquet and enjoyed ever tasty dish. We could not finish the meal as we were full. The service was friendly and fast. We really enjoyed the meal.

Excellent food, good music and great service. The red curry is just sooooo good. The tom yum rice was something new and interesting. They do ask for spice levels so if you like it a bit Hot just tell them!

Fantastic atmosphere in a great bustling restaurant. The staff were exceptional, making us feel very welcome and nothing was too difficult. All of our meals had excellent flavour from the duck curry to the chicken wings that the kids loved.
We had a great time and will be back.

Not bad.

Food 4/5
Price 3/5
Service 3.5/5
Atmosphere 3/5
Dishes variety 3.5/5

Have been meaning to visit this place in a while and finally we did. I wasn't expecting much as their reviews seemed average but to my surprise the food was actually quite nice.

We ordered one entree, one soup and two mains. The entree, star dumplings were delicious. The wrapper was cooked nicely and the sauce it was packed full of flavours.
The main with minced pork had a great balance in flavour and I love the mixed in veggies that gave it extra texture.
Pad Thai , it was definitely the let down of the night as it was just one dimension in flavour and all I could taste was the tomato sauce. The noodles were cooked a little to long and it broke as you picked it up.

The food was really good especially the Pad Thai. Best one I've had here in Adelaide! The staff were wonderful as well - I'll be back soon for sure. 😋

I thought Surees Thai was the best restaurant in terms of Thai food until I came here The service was amazing, some of the dishes were messed up but they would always help (e.g. replace dish, offer free dish) but then there was the food everything was made to perfection I couldn't help using UBER EATS after being here This is a Must go to restaurant!!

Really impressed with Social Street S2. The food was excellent - great taste and the serves were extremely generous for the price. Good wine list. Friendly service.

Very friendly staff. Got seated upstairs & they made sure we had fans & an air con facing our direction. All the food was amazing with so much flavour. Will definitely be returning again in the near future 😀😀

It's a thai resto but the taste was different to other thai resto. I like the design, casual and cozy but couldn't accommodate a big number of people. The staf are very friendly. But when I came there I felt the service are quite slow. It tooks 45min untill the main course came out. The cook couldn't manage their time to cook lots of dishes in a well time frame. The waitress seems prioritized uber eat order than dine-in customer. Yes, I saw they prepared foods in uber eat bags and men came to collect. The price is a bit over for the quantity and quality. Vegetarian springroll was standard, 3pcs for $9.8 and it's small. Thai fried chicken wasn't really good, I prefer kfc, tho the portion was big. Tom yum soup was okay but wasn't spicy and tasty enough compare to tom yum at regent or baan thai. Sarawak laksa wasn't really good as well. I think they have to be brave play with the spices. Hope in a future I came the taste would be better.

Cute little Thai restaurant with great atmosphere and very friendly service who were very accomodating. The food came out prompt and were decorated beautifully. However, I thought the dishes lacked flavour and they all ended up tasting very similar to each other. I would say definitely room for improvement. The ingredients used were very fresh.
Tempting Palates
Let's get social! Social Street S2 is a new Thai restaurant at 174a Hutt St, Adelaide at the busy Hutt St food precinct. Tempting Palates was invited to sample some of their dishes. We also invited along fellow bloggers Goodfoodthyme and Whats On The List for an impromptu bloggers night out!
Honestly_nadz
quiet little joint on Hutt St for a wednesday night dinner - flavours were popping and great Gluten Free options for my dining partner! will return if in the area. only critisism is possibly a little lacking service on the upstairs tables.

It was okay for an authentic Thai place. The place and the food was pretty decent for what you get and the taste of the food was authentic but nothing wow. A bit skeptical seeing young Chinese chefs in the kitchen, as reading the previous reviews led me to believe there was a professional Thai head chef cooking. Went there during lunch so the food on the lunch menus were a bit cheaper than the main menu (ranging from $11-14).

I have to give this restaurant a lower score because I am not happy with their groupon deal that you can't buy 2 lots of 2 people deal and sit together in one table as a group of 4. Well, the restaurant was empty when we went there. They also have upstairs dining. Don't understand why they don't want to fill the restaurant with people rather than letting it run empty. The food itself is nice but on the salty side. There's not a lot of Thai flavour that I was expecting. Not enough herbs and too much meat probably. If you go there for a breakfast, order the omelette. It definitely looks good and a lot less meaty than the other choices.
On The Chopping Board
Thai dining in Adelaide can be a bit hit and miss. You've got classics like Star of Siam, but you've got plenty of misses. So when we were approached by Social Street S2 (S2), we were eager to try their new offering and see if it was a hit. All food and drinks were provided by S2. Upstairs Interior. Upon arrival we were eagerly welcomed and shown to our table upstairs. There's plenty of space around the tables, whilst being just small enough to feel cosy and quaint. Lots of cool artwork on the walls too. We dined tonight with 2 children, one 3 and another 1, so having a bit of space is certainly a requirement. Once seated, we were shown through the menu designed by their Bangkok Chef. Our approach to the menu tonight was to let the chef do the feeding, while we sat back and enjoyed what they believed to be the highlights. We were then offered a wine to start with and went with a Penna Lane Watervale Riesling. As advised, it was a great match to our entrees, especially the Sea Flowers.

How would you feel if you just opened up your first ever restaurant, a Thai restaurant, only for someone to come along and open another Thai restaurant weeks later, literally just down the street from you? Having only opened around five months ago, that’s exactly what happened to the owners of Social Street S2 on Hutt Street. Restaurants can be a risky business like that, but the three owners of Social Street S2 have taken it in their stride and soldiered on serving the best food they can and providing top quality service.

Social Street S2 located on Hutt Street is one of the newest Thai restaurants to add onto the ever growing lists of Thai restaurants popping up in Adelaide and at just 4 months old, it’s quickly getting on the radars of Thai food lovers out there. They’re open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner whilst their Sundays is specifically opened for breakfast/brunch only.

Social Street S2 is in fact a Thai restaurant located in Hutt Street, Adelaide. Open for only four months, the owners made up the name as they wanted it to be a place of social gatherings. A place to grab a drink and nibbles. But that has evolved and they found that more and more people were staying for dinner.

Social Street S2 is a relatively new casual dining restaurant on Hutt Street that prides itself on authentic Thai & Asian cuisines dishes; a place where people can come and enjoy after work with friends, enjoy takeaway and or Thai inspired Sunday breakfast. I definitely suggest you come and try. There is quite a selection of dishes from entrees through to desserts to choose from; something for everyone and you can request your chili level from mild to freaking hot. While I enjoyed all the fresh ingredients, well balanced of flavor dishes, try their signature Pla Rad Prik-Thai Crispy John Dory with chili sauce made with homemade chili powder (22.8) The addition of the crispy basil really enhanced the flavors of the dish. Their Homemade Fishcakes with cucumber, peanut & sweet chili sauce was a delight (3 for 10.8) and don't go past the Sea Flower Dumplings (3 for 12.8) - chicken, squid & prawn dumpling in a light red curry sauce.
Feed Me, Adelaide
These are not words that I often use to describe a dining experience. But this was exactly what I found myself uttering throughout the meal that was served to us at Social Street. Social Street S2 is yet another relatively new eatery to enter into the Adelaide market. It is also another that is offering up Asian cuisine, and specifically thai food, for your enjoyment. How to stand out from the crowd is a tough ask. However, on the back of this night, they have most certainly got my attention. Often it is the little things that make the difference, and Social Street did these brilliantly.

If you like Thai food then you will definitely love Social Street S2!! Breakfast with a slight of Thai flavour added to it and very traditional Thai food for their lunch and dinner menu that will amaze your palate!! I have tried their muesli smoothie that is very refreshing and I guarantee you that it will be one of your flavourites there. I also had their guacamole toasts when I first visited and i must say their guacamole is so far my favourite in Adelaide. I have also tried their dinner, Pad Thai and Barramundi with secret dressings to pair with a glass of Pinot Gris that was recommended by the owners. It was a great dinner at a great restaurant that I've spent 4hrs there. If you would like a place to chill with good food, definitely check out Social Street S2!!
Eat All The Things
Great flavours, great attentive service. I had the grilled salmon Tom yum soup. Was delicious, however was a tiny serve for $25. Prices are a bit much for what it is- if this restaurant was on gouger st, there's no way they'd last charging the prices they do. Nice food, but can get Thai food at this quality elsewhere for cheaper.

Dined here for dinner and had a very pleasant time. Sat inside and was met with a really comfortable and peaceful atmosphere with funky background piano music. The food came at a reasonable speed and was delicious although a bit spicy for my companion's liking.

Customer service was, again, commendable as the waiters checked in on us enough times as to not interrupt but also make us feel at ease.

Very fortunate to have come across this gem on my newsfeed and highly recommend this to others :D

Thai is one of my favourite cuisines and I’m always on the lookout for some good Thai food. When I heard about Social Street S2, I was already making plans to check this place out. While the business name doesn’t sound very Thai, it refers more to the modern and casual space where people can get together. With an experienced Thai chef taking care of things in the kitchen, Social Street S2 offers a decent selection of entrees, mains and curries.

From Bangkok, to the jungles and villages of Thailand, this was of the most incredibly tasty, friendly and truly authentic Thai experiences I've ever had. From the staff, to the stunning dishes and calm ambience, Social Street is a must for any food lover. The Salmon is just 'Wow!', the Green Vegetarian curry is one of the best I've had, and the deep fried icecream was like nothing else... oh and the cold rolls and curry puffs ain't bad either. Enjoy!!!!! We did :) Mike and Tom
